Question regarding commissioning new USNA graduates

Are all USNA graduates being commissioned right out of the Academy to start 5 year commitment? Is there a reserve commitment after 5 years?    NROTC are being put in IRR for up to a year after graduation., does this happen to USNA graduates?  Thanks

    Star,

As far as I know, all USNA graduates are commissioned into either the Navy or Marine Corps (occassional cross comissioning into other military dept is very rare). They then owe five year active duty committment and another three years reserve duty unless something happens to change that. Like the needs of the Navy or a seperation from service. They can also be re-activated even after they have served if the Navy needs them as in a time of War.

Not sure what IRR stands for so cannot comment on it. Hope this helps some.

USNA are not put on IRR after comissioning. I only know about pilots. Their commitment does not start until after winging. You are not winged until after about 2 years of training. Sorry this is happening to the NROTC guys.
