What to put in a Care Package

This discussion is for everyone to share what they like to put in a care package for plebes.

Mine liked hard candy, trail mix and powdered drinks.

We sent care a few care packages. I sent thefirst one while we were Annapolis. I put things like granola packets with dried fruit, gatorade or crystal light single packages to add to water. I used to ship whatever would fit in the disposable plastic GLAD containers. They sealed well, and allowed a place to store items.

I did send single packages of fruit, and juice boxes. They tend to weigh a lot, so I sent them priority mail FLAT rate.

Ask your mid what types of things they might like.

Other things that were beneficial were sharpie markers, flexible fabric like band aids, and moleskin (similar to corn pads) for blisters.

They usually have the plebes write home and tell mom and dad they are fine. At that point, mine sent me a post it telling me "camp is fun! NOT!" He asked for a water bottle, and a big bag of peanut M & M's. Please know the detailers can go thru your plebes stuff at some point. My mid turned 18 about 2 weeks into Plebe Summer. He expressly told me NOT to send any cards.

During Plebe Summer, they will do anything to stay under the radar and blend into the woodwork. It is just part of the process, as they adjust. They do make it thru.... and even the parents.

They tell you to wait for the changes in your mid, but they never let on that we parents change too. We learn to let go a bit more, as we marvel at the level of growth, independence, and confidence.
