One thing I recommend is the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News. We have suggested that our sailor visit when he has the opportunity, especially since they have a lot of artifacts from the USS Monitor.

I noticed that someone had mentioned Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint. We have gone there both times I have visited Norfolk. There burgers and cheese fries are amazing! And they have a huge selection of beers, ciders, etc. BUT be warned! It is a very small “hole in the wall” type place. Food is good, drinks are great, and service is amazing. But be prepared for a wait as the seating area is very small.
if you are into the whole reality tv type scene, there is a Hell’s Kitchen restaurant across from Jack Brown’s
