The USS Wasp, six other active warships from four nations and three tall ships sailed up the Mississippi in pouring rain on April 17, 2012 to kick off a three year commemoration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812. Photos are from the RiverWalk deck at the Julia Street Wharf where the Wasp docked. Had a great time visiting with Jacki (Tackijacky) and her family as we watched the ship arrive in wind and rain at 3:30 pm. The rain ended with a beautiful sunset and "Liberty Call" at 7 pm. Happy sailors and Marines met up with family, headed dinner nearby and to the French Quarter, to be back to the ship before 2 a.m. curfew. A wonderful experience for them and for us!
