Taking Leave
I was wondering if any of yall's sailors on the GW have taken leave during the few weeks when the ship is home between deployments? Mine is trying to get leave to come back to the states so we can get married, but he's been told they don't let anyone take leave during that time.
hi - yeah -I'm thinking he's been told correctly. that period that they MIGHTpull back into Yokosuka is not always carved in stone, I don't think it even lasts a few weeks (3 at most), and they probably still consider themselves to be on deployment even tho they pull back in because they are replenishing the ship, etc. etc. I'm afraid the answer you seek is not going to change from what your Z-man has been told. I visited my son last year and we didn't even know when (or if) I could make my plans (ie. my son on the ship didn't even know) until he received an e-mail announcing a Friends and Family cruise last August - from there I had about a month to plan my trip and....as I recall, they were only back in port for about 3 weeks. Christmas weddings are nice. :-)

My son was able to get leave back in Feb. But I know being a retired sailor, it is usually on a case by case basis. Like for instance, his job could be holding him back. Hopefully things will work out for you!
