So, I've never gotten a phone call from my sailor during his deployment. I honestly don't expect to either, however regarding my last discuss post, I sent him a long email explaining my feelings and I asked if he'd call me when he got a chance because it would be so much easier to hear his voice then an email. Even if he decides to break it off with me LOL
ANYWAY - what would a phone call from a ship look like on the caller ID? I sometimes get really random phone calls from random area codes (like earlier today it was (XXX) XXX-8370, the X's being numbers of course, and when I googled it, it wasn't a company or anything). Will a phone call from the ship look like that, a regular phone number? Or will it be a random string of numbers like some foreign numbers are? Just so I can possibly be prepared.
Thanks, y'all!

Some of the ships have pay satellite phones, so there are situations when they can call from at sea.
The office phones were called autovan when I worked on them, and yes, they are supposed to have a code to make a call. Some of the autovan work in port only, some do work out to sea when hooked onto the satcomm systems. There are a few which have unlimited access, and those are usually in officer's offices, and no personal calls are allowed without specific permission.
These aren't secure phones, we were working on one line (in Japan) and we heard a guy talking to his GF in the Philippines..... wow. I wanted to hook up my handset and give the guy an earful, he was talking about how he couldn't divorce his wife just yet, and how he didn't have the money to bring the GF up for a visit, but he'd see her when his ship came into port.... cheating bastard. You can bet he was on a phone without permission... and it goes to show you never know who is listening in.

Usually its an unknown number in less they are in port and then they can rent phones and get cards to call back home and then its usually a weird looking number, when my husband is gone I answer anything and if its not him I just hang up lol

When my bf calls it is a regular phone number. You should expect phone calls especially if his ship has the ability to call. They have sign up lists. I get a call from mine at least twice a week. The ship phone number usually has an area code of the place it is stationed out of. Make sure to answer those calls, it is probably him.
