Deployment Question

Our son who is a CTN was put on temporary duty onboard a submarine the end of last month.  This is the second time he has been put on a sub.  The first time he began communicating with us by email almost immediately after he left.  This time he has been gone almost 3 weeks and we have not heard anything from him.  Can someone explain what might make the difference with these two assignments.  We feel confident that we would be notified if something were wrong, but it's so much different from the first assignment that we are more concerned.  Thanks for your comments.

It probably depends on the sub and what they are doing. Sometimes they will shut down communication or have limited communication depending on what they are doing. I would not worry I am sure they are ok. Just busy doing there job.

I know this was from a few years ago, but I thought CTNs were land based....is that not true?
