My son left home today for Boot Camp... I held it together pretty good until he walked out the door. We are going to Lansing tonight so we can watch him swear in tomorrow and then leave. I have mixed feelings about it, I want to go I just fear its going to be really really hard on all of us.
When my Marine son left almost 2 years ago we took him to Lansing but then left we didn't know we could stay and watch them swear in (he wasn't good about giving lots of details..:( ) With this son he told us right away and said I have to drive down with my recruiter but then you and Dad can come down and I really want you to.
Any other Boys/Girls leaving from Lansing tomorrow...

Hi, Tammy, Your feelings are normal. I watched my son's swearing in February of 2009. I think the Navy is better about wanting parents included than some branches of the military. It is hard for us moms to let go and you'll have the ups and downs of boot camp, limited communication, listening to your son complain about the tough classes (just lend an encouraging ear). Please join us through the regular comments on the Michigan page and jump in when you have questions or need to vent. We have most everything covered through experience. My son is a submariner, currently in dry dock being decommissioned. He'll be in until 2018.

Hi Tattle (Tammy). seen my Son off three and a half years ago at the recruiters office. He did not allow us to go see him to swear in. If this is what he wants you try to be strong, easier said than done as you have been down this road of saying see ya later. I feel for ya. Let us know how it goes and know that you are not alone. We're here for ya Navy Momma
