Hi, my son will be graduating PIR Dec 4 and on his way to Subschool Dec 5. What is the "estimated" time off for Christmas break? (I've heard just Christmas day and I've also heard 3 days). Outside of Christmas break when is he able to leave -- can he leave on weekends or evenings for family visits (we are local to the subschool). I've tried to get info from his recruiter but he doesn't have much info. Is the subschool 8 weeks? Can he have his cell phone back once graduated from PIR? Thanks ahead of time!

    Hi submarine,

    I really don't know much about Christmas break but my son just graduated BESS and it was about 8 weeks. Then there is a small Graduation. He will be able to have his cell phone when he arrives at school. As far as leaving for weekends,they receive white cards,yellow cards & blue cards, that will dictate how much freedom he will have on weekends,etc... We were able to visit him but he has to chaperone you at all times on the base. We would meet him at the sub museum & drive on to the base with him. We went to subway & did a little bowling on the base when we visited,it was nice & the museum was good too! :)

      I heard there was at least a week stand down at Groton over Christmas. Maybe. We are hoping our son can fly home for s visit.
