NEW TO GROUP WITH A FEW QUESTIONS

My son isn't actually a corpsman yet he will arrive at A school sometime mid oct. my questions are these if anyone can help me out....

1)since he will be in school over the holidays, how are the holidays handled there? will he be able to come home to KY even if for just a few days? or will he have to stay on base?

2)From what i can find out there is a lot of walking going on because the cabs are expensive. Are they allowed to have a Bicycle with them ?

3)evidently the food sucks in the mess hall. do they have to eat in the mess hall or can the by their own groceries and cook them? if so what are they allowed to have in their room to cook with/on?

4) do you recommend they have a watch with a second hand?

My Corpsman also was in A school during the holidays. They pretty much shut things down over the holidays. My son was home for Cheistmas and New Years. As far as the bicycle, not sure on that. I know that he and some buddies always went in together and shared a cab. As far as the food goes, not sure on that. I do remember him complaining about the food but I think he tolerated it. I hope at least some of this helps.

There are 3 phases that they have to earn in order to have certain privileges for example: leave the base to go into town, leave the base to go home. I do believe at phase 2 they can ask for leave to go home and if they are scheduled for watch duty they have to get it covered. Phase 3 they can leave Friday afternoon but need to be back the night before school resumes. They can buy food for their room but they can only cook in a microwave no hot plates allowed. Hope this helps.

For the holidays school is closed. My son came home for 10 days.

        Yes on bicycles

They have a small fridge and a microwave.
