What Julie, Cory not impressed with your singing or that he turned 21? LOL!!!
Oh, they really know how to burst our bubble don't they. I guess it's all part of them growing up. But that is much better then hearing that he was upset about being away from home on his birthday. So I will wish Cory a Happy BIrthday, and you Julie congratulations on having a growing up 21 year old son.
Hi MomDJ, welcome to the site. Hope you can get the answers you are looking for. I know you will get the support you may want from this group. We are the best!!! :)
Right now things are tentatively scheduled for the 28th-May 2nd.
I'm meeting a bunch of friends from another Navy site. It will be our 3rd annual.
But the same here, if your dates are close then I can just head out earlier.
Yes, Pete you might just have few meet and greets in the spring.
Navy-Parents, I'm a plank owner!! LOL been there since Aaron was in boot camp, almost 4 years ago.
And of course the other two you mentioned. I need a life.LOL
Back in the day NP was hopping with activity, i think this and the addition of other sites have taken a lot of people away from there. You know spread the wealth (of knowledge). I still regularly check it out.
There is a group of us that have gotten pretty close over the years.
It would be great if we could all get together in April.
Sounds like you can just sit back and enjoy the holidays now.
I still need to do some, but I'm waiting for Tara to arrive on Sat and then we can go sometime next week to finish up.
Oh Sheila what great news. I 'm so glad Martin got home. That is a great Christmas gift....a sailor fresh home from deployment. Enjoy!
Yes Julie, Tara was home over Thanksgiving. Sorry. She is driving up with her boy friend. But if it makes you feel any better......I won't have my son, he is some is somewhere under the water, haven't heard from him since Thanksgiving and he told me he wouldn't be able to be in touch with us for quite a while.
Oh great Julie, now I feel guilty for having Tara while Cory hasn't been home LOL! we could just keep going round and round and then Christmas will be over.
I think thats what makes this board so great, we all know what each other is going through and we all support each other.
And I know Aaron is just fine doing what he is doing, who knows maybe he will hit some exotic port on Christmas and I'll post it here and we all will be jealous. LOL!
Ok, I'm not smiling any more. Tara called earlier and said they won't be coming home till Mon. Nothing to do with the Navy delaying, its the Marines, her BF has to report in Mon for some reason, so it looks like another long drive in the evening.
Well on the bright side, since I thought they were coming tomorrow I can just take it easy because I'm all ready for them. I hate this waiting around, Hmmmm...... I guess I can bake more cookies while I wait.
I'm not sure when they are leaving, I now Mike has to report in for something and then they can leave. So it may be a long day or night drive again. But I will let you know.
Welcome Kimberly, Julie has said it all. Glad you are with us.
Well the update on Tara is.....not leaving till tomorrow morning. Which is actually a good thing due to the fact that I think they would've been driving in stormy. They have some high country to go through and it had called for some snow and freezing rain tonight. So as of now I believe they will be home for dinner tomorrow night..... hope!
Finally.......Tara is home, they rolled in around 9:00pm, at least it was earlier then thanksgiving. Even though it will be a shorter time then originally thought it is still great to have her home. I guess Christmas can begin now!!!!
Merry day after Christmas everyone! We had (are still having)a great time with Tara and Mike. Had some friends over for Christmas Eve dinner then we watch our annually Christmas Eve movie "The Christmas Story" it's a family favorite.
Got up late opened a few gifts had breakfast at around 1pm and just hung out having fun till it was time for dinner at a friends house.
Seems like all we do is eat. LOL!
Molly so glad you got to see and speak to your boys. Gotta love this modern technology!
Shelia, sounds like Martin is doing just great, every time he takes that test he accumulates points that are applied to the next test so it always helps. It's just because of the over manning that he didn't make it. That was the one that Tara missed by .35 last time. It's all based on manning percentages.
Tell him to keep up the good work.
Sheila thinking about you this morning, keep your chin up. Tara and Mike are getting ready to leave pretty soon. Then it is back to a quiet house. especially since they will be taking Tara's new puppy!!!!!!
I can't believe this Christmas is over already. It went so fast, all the prep and excitement and now we go back to normal.
Sheila I feel your pain.....on these days I just kinda walk around in a daze. I to am waiting for the phone call saying that the 8 hr drive is over. Once they leave you just want them back where they belong safe and sound.
I did get an email from Aaron the day after Christmas, that was the first since Thanksgiving. It sounds like he's back in Japan. He even got his Christmas package that I sent the middle of Nov. That was my first time with mailing something to his sub while underway, I figured he would get it in April. :) That made me happy.
He was going to try to call but he dropped his iphone from the top rack and the whole screen just went blank. He said as soon as he can he will call. So I have my land line and cell phone in my holster waiting for a call from either sailor.
Sheila just get some saran wrap and cover the key board then you just go ahead and get the tears out while you type. This is the best place for a pity party.
As Scarlett says...."tomorrow is another day"....and so it is. Things are getting back to normal. Tara called last night to say they arrived safe and sound. So on we go.
Thanks for the update on PBM Molly......Go have fun Pete!
This whole week for me has not only been about phones at the ready, I have fallen into the trap of leaving my computer up and running, I'm waiting for the "Ding" that tells me I have an email. Aaron said we would do ichat when he can. Well, it's been over a week and all I hear is Ding!..... Ding!!.....Ding! I drop what I'm doing to run to the screen and of course it's not him. My husband thinks I'm a "Ding Dong" I'm starting to think he is right!!!
I promised myself I would limit my time on the computer in the new year......well so far I'm not doing very good.
Sheila when your done with your house come on over to mine!!!!!!
I'm waiting to do the same thing, clean and purge. But the Christmas decorations need to go first. That starts today in between "dings"!!!!! I may finish by Valentines day. LOL!
I don't need to wait for the "ding" anymore Aarons 6 month deployment turned out to be only 2 for him. He was part of a crew change. He is back in Hawaii till next week and then he will be heading to Fla. next week to give SCUBA school a try again and then back to Hi for some other 5 week class he wants to take. Then hopefully in April he will be home for leave.
Glad to see that everyone is slowly coming back to the site. I put my 2 cents in on the Mom posting about her son going undes. I hope she comes on over.
Julie hang in there Cory will call when he can. We all know the Navy keeps our kids busy. No news is good news.
Yes Aaron is in Hi. till Sunday, then he will head off to Fla, class starts on Tues. I hate the fact of him flying with all the stuff that is going on with the airlines, but what can you do.
Molly not to worry you all are at the top of the list.
I see we have a few new members, Welcome to our world!!!! Glad you joined us. We have a great support group here, so sit back and read the previous posts and then ask away.
Oh Molly, gotta keep it real for these kids.
The pay thing is always getting messed up, I remember Tara's was in the beginning, Aaron waited about 8 months before he stared getting his advancement pay. It just seems the Navy works at it's own pace.
Tucker is learning patients I guess.
Hi everyone I am a new Navy mom, my son is going in as undesignated and I havea friend who told me they may send my son straight out right after he graduates. Her son didn't go in under the undesignated, so I am wondering if anyones child left right after graduation or if they have more schooling they have to do.
Hi Virginia, Glad you found our group.
I'm sorry to hear about your son. I'm sure he is devastated. Right now you just need to be positive for him. I know he won't be thinking this right now, but sometimes these things work out for the best.
If you read through the stories on this site plus the discussion about "undesignated" on the main page you will hear some amazing success stories of the undesignated Sailor. He needs to realize that for him it will be a detour back to Corpsman someday or some other rate that he will truly enjoy.
We have some wonderful people on this site. We are all here to help. RIght now you need to be there for him and let him know it is not the end of the world.
There are mom here that will give you great advice, my daughter went in Undesignated, and that is a whole other story.
Welcome softballmom, Your son should be talking with his LOP about his options, also I do believe there are Career Counselors on the ships. He needs to start asking about the steps he needs to be taking to get him rated. They will submit his info and see what is open for him.
Hi everyone, the people in Haiti, it is just unbelievable. I'm so glad we are able to send out men and women over there to help.
Last week was crazy for me, I had Jury duty, and was picked for a case. Have today off but have to head back tomorrow. I'm hoping it will end pretty soon. It's about a 45 min drive for me and we are just getting started with some major rains coming in for then next couple of days.
Food is good.......back on the land is good........I guess thats all they think we moms need to know. Don't you just love it???
Well Julie I guess you have to go with the no news is good news.
Glad you got to hear from Cory, it's alway good to hear their voice no matter how quick.
Welcome, again to our new friends. Glad you found us to join in on the fun.
Sheila glad you heard from your South Sea Sailor and communications are back up. Hope the shoulder continues to do well.
Molly glad you heard from your Caribbean Sailor, such a wonderful thing he is a part of. Keep up the good work.
Aaron has completed two weeks of scuba school, he was 1 of 4 out of 17 that passed his 1000m swim in the bay with 40 degree temps. Brrrrr! He said he a wet suit, but I still say Brrrrrr! He was also the 3rd fastest swimmer.
Sorry, had to burst with pride for a sec.
Tara was just informed that she will be able to take the BM3 in March. (if they don't lose the paper work again.)
And I am finished with jury duty as of yesterday afternoon, so......I'm back!!!!
Oh Cheryle so sorry to hear the news, but everything you have said is true. Especially the part about your heart breaking, been there done that. You will just need to be patient and understanding with him, just be there to support him, and we are her for your support.
He will most likely meet with a Detailer, they will go over what jobs are open to him according to his ASVAB scores and I don't know what else. He really should consider a job even if he is not crazy about it, as opposed to Undes.
Wow, I have missed a lot. I finished up Jury duty last Friday. I went kicking and screaming, but have to say that it was not that bad. Not that I want to be called again any time soon. But I did my duty.
I have been trying to catch up on my life. As well as the site here. Welcome to all the new members, you have found a great home here. It looks like everyone is doing pretty good. All questions are pretty much covered and as usually we are all waiting for for some kind of news.
Julie, I know how disappointed you must be. I'm sorry that your trip won't work out. I hope you can change your tickets or get your money back for another time. I'm glad that Cory is excited to be going. I know you have that double edge sword feeling, You are probably so proud of him going to help out, but on the other hand.....you want him to yourself. And that is the most normal feeling for a wonderful mom to feel. So now my friend it is your turn to have a pity party, go ahead, you'll feel bette. We are all here to for you.
My sailors are both good. Aaron is almost done with his 3rd week of scuba school. Everything seems to going just fine there.
Tara is good she has been moved to a different part of operations with ACU5 and likes what she is doing, which is a little bite of everything.
How is everyone doing today. Julie I hope you are doing better.
Aaron just posted this site. It's not his class but it is his instructor with another class. This what he just finished with this week. He has two more weeks to go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0hMxSYaWX8
By the way, cover your ears at the music. :)
Oh Julie, like you said it may not be the trip you originally planned, but it does sound like a good one. Sleeping in and doing what you want is a plus. I would love to visit those historic sites. You will have a great time.
Julie that is great news that there may be a link to Cory. I hope it is the same Cory, but if not at least you can get information and news on whats happening over there. But I bet it is your Cory.....sending positive thoughts your way. Hope you here something soon.
Sheila, great picture of you and your Sailor, thanks for Sharing.
Julie, Aaron will be finished with scuba school next week and then he heads back to Hawaii and attends another 5 week class. When he is finished his sub will still be out on deployment so he will be able to take leave and come home. Hoping to get us all together. Tara and Aaron have seen each other, and my husband and I have see Tara, or Aaron, but the four of us have not been together in over 2 years.
Tara is good, she is down in San Diego taking a 2 week class for the BM3 test in March. And studying in between.
So right now life is good for all. Thanks for asking.
Oh Julie, I'm so glad you finally got to hear some news about Cory. Just a little bite of news about our sailors is all we need sometimes. Hope you get to hear his voice soon.
Tell him that we are all behind him and he is doing a great thing.
Good morning everyone and Happy Valentines day.
Jerry and I had a great time while we were away. It was great to be in the snow for a few days. I know the people that have been living in the East with all those storms are saying I'm crazy. LOL!I
I have been keeping up with what has been going on here, but it was just to difficult to respond from the IPhone. I'm glad everyone is hearing from there sailors and passing tests.
Aaron will be finished with his scuba class on Wed and flying back to Hawaii on Thursday I will just have to look up and wave as he passes over Ca. I believe he and some buddies were headed to New Orleans for the weekend. That should be lots of fun. Can wait to hear about that.
Tara is just fine as far as I know, now that there is a BF in the picture I don't hear from her as much. Unless something is wrong. So I guess not news is good news.
Welcome Jessica.
Julia, I know that hearing Cory say that he feels so good about what he is doing has got to be music to you ears. You tell Cory we are so proud of him.
And Molly your son also.
Welcome Kelly, I'm not to sure how to answer your question. Do you mean college classes or classes that has to do with a rate? I know my son is getting ready to take college classes on line. And my daughter was going to a tutoring class called PLATO, she was wanting to get a better score on the ASVAB. And she just finished up a class for taking the advancement test in March. I can't say whats on a ship, but I beat there is some thing there.
And I am sure someone will be along to give you better answers.
But I wanted to welcome and let you know we are glad you found us.
Hello all and welcome.
I have been checking in on everyone. Glad things are going good for everyone.
I'm down with Tara, she had knee surgery on Wed. She had her ACL replaced. It was an old injury from high school that finally caught up with her. I will be with her a few more days.
Aaron is finished with his scuba school and is back in Hawaii .
Juiles I hope u are having a wonderful time in Virgina .
Just checking in from Camp Pendleton, was suppose to leave Tara on Monday but I'm now leaving Thursday. Tara had some follow up dr. appts. And she wanted me to stay, how could I refuse. She is doing great, getting around without her crutches already. She is almost fully bending her knee, she just has toworl on streightening it. She has a months worth of physical theraphy and hopfully she will be good to go.
Glad you had a good time in Virgina Julie. It sounds like Cory will be back before you know it.
Welcome to our newest members, this is the place to be.
Hello everyone, got back from SoCal on Thursday, just been trying to catch up and watching the Olympics. Now I guess it's back to normal (whatever that might be.) Tara is on the mend, lost the crutches a few days later and is hobbling around just fine. She will continue with her Physical Therapy for another month and should be back to work on light limited duty. Hopefully all this knee stuff is behind her now.
Welcome to anyone that I missed joining while I was not around.
Julie glad you had such a great time on you vacation.
And glad that things are moving along for all our Sailors.
Wow that will be here before you know it Julie, I hope the rumor mill is right.
I know you are anxious to talk to him. And we are anxious to hear all about too!

Oh, they really know how to burst our bubble don't they. I guess it's all part of them growing up. But that is much better then hearing that he was upset about being away from home on his birthday. So I will wish Cory a Happy BIrthday, and you Julie congratulations on having a growing up 21 year old son.
