Congrats to all that graduated !!!! Awesome : )

Cathy welcome to the group... I'd like all our corpsman moms to join our other groups too... Corpsman moms and corpsman moms and dads : ) Two wonderful groups...

  • MEsailormom

I posted a rather verbose commentary on the weekend details in hopes it helps the next groups going through....

My cub just sent this pix he took while packing his car. :) Said he wanted to remember the smiles not the tears...

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

ME, thanks for sharing your experiences, not verbose at all.  It's why we're here, to pass on what we learn and help each other :)    Isn't it handy to have a tall one in the family?  My dad's 6'4" and I was always grateful I could find him in a crowd.  Speaking of height, this is from last May's graduation - my son (6'1") is in the middle, and the guy on his left is now in the midst of Search and Rescue training.

  • mikes mom

Awwwwww Marcy our guy always looks so cool : )
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Aw, we sure ♥ our guys... I still want to know how they can see anything with those covers pulled down so low!  Oh that's right, we can ask Robin, she's got the look just right :)
  • MEsailormom

    :)
  • mikes mom

Robin a smile still doesn't answer our question : ) LOL
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I think she kept the hat and is having guilt pangs for when her son can't find it in his sea bag :)
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

For those whose sons just graduated, MEmom Robin just posted a ton of photos here!  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/corpsmanmomsanddads  If you're not a member there, you should be!!!
  • MEsailormom

Thanks for saving me the keystrokes Marcy! BTW cub is in Tempe right now visiting a friend. I'll have him wave on his way through Phoenix.

I did not keep the lid but did make off with a pair of PT trunks.

  • mikes mom

    Hmmmm I wonder what I should keep of Melissa's : )
  • Scrappy1(Carol)

Congrats to everyone.  Robin, I know he will arrive in CA safely.  Thanks for the photos, can't wait to see them
  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

Our son heads to CL Aug 1.  Right now he is home and we are totally enjoying him to pieces.
  • MEsailormom

Well he arrived in CA safely but just found out he got a speeding tix in NC. 80 in a 55 mph. Now we need to hire a lawyer to appear in court in NC. Any experience out there? Any referrals? In maine you just pay the fine and move along....
  • cali87

MEsailormom make sure he knows that in CA if you are going over 25mph over the listed speed limit it is a misdemeanor which can get him in a little bit of trouble especially in SoCal. as for NC i have no clue but i thought i would give you a heads up as far as the california law goes. im sure if he doesnt have anything on his record in the past 12-18months he should be able to just pay a fine or do traffic school online.

  • MEsailormom

clean record thank goodness. I think in NC you have to go to court if it is 15 mph or more over (he was 25 over). A lawyer can go for you. I sure will warn him about CA rules. Thanks!! I called Navy Legal assistance and I think they can help him. Ah yes our job is never done. He is freaking out...a good kid. I told him he didn't commit murder or rob a bank or anything!! Just got to take care of business.

  • MEsailormom

cali 87 I just copied and pasted your CA comment. Thanks! Good warnings for a very rural Maine 18 year old. He is speaking with the Navy Legal assistance now. I will let you know how it goes...
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Geez, I just looked and the next FMTB graduation is in October!  Guess the summer really is flying by.....
  • Navy Mom

My corpsman just left this morning for Camp Lejeune after being home for 11 days.  I miss him already!  Anyone want to fill me in on what to expect next?
  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

We are in the same boat!  Talked to ours last night, sounded very excited to be there.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

They start with five blocks of classroom instruction and tests, then field ops.  If you send mail, they have to do pushups to receive it, so confirm with your sailor first how much he wants your cards, letters and packages first LOL
  • mikes mom

Christine - Please give your son a big hug from me when you see him ...
  • Navy Mom

Christine-Sending good thoughts your way for your son's deployment.  I will add his name to my prayer list, and you too!  Tell him thank you and that we are all proud of him!
  • Navy Mom

Yep, some days I swear I can literally watch my hair turn gray! :)
  • Scrappy1(Carol)

My son is to start FMTB in a few weeks, any of you with sailors in that group?
  • Navy Mom

I thought mine was going to start in a few weeks but apparently he says he is not starting until October.  Don't understand what the big hurry was for him to get there! (?)
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

The next class is #11050, due to convene August 22, graduate Oct 17.  The following class has a not-official start date of Oct 25, graduating Dec 21.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I popped a new Discussion up top for the next class, so whoever has loved ones in that class can get together!
  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

Navy Mom, our son said he would be starting in August and now wont be starting until Octiber. Sounds like our boys will be together. Good for us!
  • Scrappy1(Carol)

Thanks Marcy.  I saw the info on the CL FMTB site but son indicated "sometime around then".  I am glad to see a group, thanks again.
  • Navy Mom

Hi Kym Ship! Talked to my son yesterday who said he wasn't given an exact date when they would start.  Just that it was in October.  So what job do they have your son doing until then? Mine is in a warehouse. Told me yesterday that for the next couple of weeks he has transportation from barracks to warehouse but after that he doesn't know how he is going to get there.  If he would walk it would take him at least 45 minutes.  So now he is in the process of looking for a used vehicle.
  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

HI NavyMom, Our son is in the base medical something. He has been doing all kinds of fun stuff, shots and such.He is really liking it. Sounds like they might meet up in Oct.
  • Navy Mom

At least they have him doing something medical field wise.  I told my son he better keep going over his books from A school so he doesn't forget things!
  • mamawalrus

Kym and Navy mom... my son will also be in the October FMTB class..  He has no idea what he will be doing till then. He will be in Cherry Point which is a Marine base from what I understand.  Are you sons at CL already waiting for FMTB?

  • Navy Mom

Mamawalrus:  My son arrived at CL last Tuesday.  This whole process does not make sense to me at all.  But hey, what else is new? I drive my son crazy with all my questions.  He seems to take it all in stride.  My questions is, what changed after he joined the Navy that he doesn't question things any more?  Wish I would have had that power over him when he was growing up! :)
  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

Talked to my son last night.  He is so excited. This week he will be doing physicals and whatever happens to drop by.  He is so up right now!!!! So good to hear.
  • mamawalrus

Maybe our sons will get to know each other since they will be in FMTB together and they are not that far from each other now.  Will CL be their duty stations?

  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

I am not sure, I thought so.  I was also wondering if they get to come home after FMTB.  So many things to think about.... I think I drive him crazy with all of my questions.  Oh well he can get over it:)
  • Navy Mom

As of right now my son has orders after FMTB for Milton, Florida.  But who knows?!  Yesterday he found out he wasn't even on the schedule to start classes in October!   I agree with you Kym, get over it!
  • mamawalrus

My son will stay in Cherry Point after FMTB, or at least that is what the plan is as of now. Of course things can change but I hope not. He really seems to like it there so far, He is suppose to rotate to the clinic today and work.

Also please keep the family and friends in prayer of a fallen Corpsman..

    US Navy Hospitalman Riley Gallinger-Long

19-year-old US Navy Hospitalman Riley Gallinger-Long was killed on 11th August 2011 in Helmand province during a foot patrol with a US Marine unit in Marjah district.
The sailor, from Cornelius, Oregon, graduated from Forest Grove High School last year. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

  • Navy Mom

Prayers to the family of US Navy Hospitalman Riley Gallinger-Long.
  • Scrappy1(Carol)

God hold them close at this time of sorrow

  • Scrappy1(Carol)

Today is the official start of FMTB for Class #11050.  Saying prayers for the entire class for their safety and success.  If you have a sailor in this class I hope you will join the link Marcy made for this class.
  • mamawalrus

Good Luck to all of them!

Not sure who started the link above w/class number but how do we go about getting our class number for the Oct class?

  • Dan's Dad (John)

It's on the FMTB-east site under schedule of courses. It's not official yet but for now it says #12010

  • K&D's Mom

My daughter is assigned to CL and I just wanted to see what the living situation  is like.  She will be assigned to the hospital.  My brother was stationed at CL many years ago as a Marine, so I am alittle familiar with the area, BUT I am sure things have changed.
  • mamawalrus

    Thanks

    Prayers to HM3 Lundy's family..

    - The military says a sailor based at Camp Lejeune was killed while conducting a patrol in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Sunday that 25-year-old Petty Officer Brian Lundy of Austin, Texas, died Friday while conducting a dismounted patrol in Marjah, Helmand province. Lundy was assigned as a Hospital Corpsman to the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.
