Merry Christmas to all! Happy Birthday Jesus!! Praying for all to have a wonderful and safe holiday with or without their Sailors/Marines/Airmen/Soldiers or whatever branch your special person is in.  My son is in Japan and won't be home until June, and definitely missing him a great deal.  Love to all!!!

  • Colleen

Merry Christmas everyone!  Hug & kiss 'em if you have 'em!

  • Dmk828

Merry Christmas to all of you and your families!
  • CathieRenee

My sailor was able to come home for Christmas. He left yesterday to drive back, stopped for the night in PA and made it safely back to VA today. Quick update on his status...he is deployable, but not able to fly yet. They are still waiting on Pensacola to make a decision. His PTS was just approved so he will be re-enlisting again. And he received another NAM, his third.
My Christmas present from my Mom was a plane ticket to Norfolk, so I am planning a trip for the Oceana air show again next year.
My daughter also graduated from CMU this month and has moved back home for now.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and if your sailor wasn't able to come home, that you got a phone call, or Skype with them.
I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
  • MarianneKT's Mom

CathieRenee - What wonderful news!  Congrats to your son.  Also to your daughter on her graduation.  So happy for all of you.

  • Lorraine

CathieRenee, thanks for the update on your son. Reenlistment is encouraging news that he will soon be flying. The air show sounds great and something for you to look forward to. Congrats to your daughter on her graduation. I hope she finds a good job.
Scottie flies home later today, weather permitting. Lanie is picking him up and they may come here after midnight. Wedding plans are all set and we're looking forward to gaining a daughter and grandson.
Happy New Year, Navy Moms and families. Love you all!
  • Colleen

That's great news Cathie!  Hope he is in air soon.  Congrats on your daughter graduating.  What career field is she going into?

Lorraine, praying that the weather doesn't put a glitch in the wedding plans.  Have fun and show us pictures when you can.

Only 2 days, 1 1/2 hours till Rich is home.  I'm sooooo excited!

Happy New Years to all of you!  Be safe.

I had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed every moment that I got to spend with him. He had a good time visiting family and seeing his girl friend. He will be heading to CA and then to Japan. I am going to miss him.

My husband and I will be planning a trip for 18 months from now to go to Japan to see him.

My son in law got to come home for Christmas too. Yippee! so I had all my kids here for the holidays.

I hope you all have a GREAT NEW YEAR!!! God bless you all.

  • Colleen

Welcome pietschie!  Where in Michigan are you?  What is your Sailor going into?  We have a great bunch of Ladies here.

  • pietschie

hi Colleen, i am in Saint Clair Shores, and my son is leaving tomorrow morning to go to SC, he is a nuke !  nice to be here, i am new with the military and it is nice to talk to some moms , who have been there or still are there! how about your son or daughter?

  • pietschie

thanks Kathy B, good to be here!

  • Colleen

pietschie, I am in Rockford, north of GR.  We have Moms all over MI.  We have get-togethers a couple times a year.  Some are social, some involve a packing of goodie boxes to the deployed.  We are all at different stages of the Navy life.  My son is an OS2(SW) (Operations Specialist Second Class Petty Officer).  He has been in since July '09.  He will soon be turning 22.  When he goes back to San Diego on Jan. 7, he will be getting ready to go on deployment on Jan. 14 to the Persian Gulf for about 9 months.  He loves being in the Navy.

  • Chele ship 12 div 048

Well ladies I am the proud Mom of a US Sailor. My Son called a few hours ago. He sounded great but exhausted. Looking forward to PIR 1/4/13. He is then heading to Pensacola to begin 4 weeks of Air-crewmen schooling which sounds pretty intense. He says he is ready for it and looking forward to being able to communicate with us and know what's going on in the outside world.

Sharon- hope things on your end of town are getting better. Is your son still home ? Is everyone feeling better? How are things with The new daughter?

Sharon- praying for you and your Dad.
  • Chele ship 12 div 048

Sorry that was suppose to say
Kathy I am praying for you and your dad.
    I'm so excited i can't think straight:)
  • Colleen

Congratulations to you Chele and your new Sailor!

  • Lorraine

Scott made the first leg of his flight yesterday evening, but was unable to make the connecting flight. He spent the night at the Newark terminal and will be here this morning. Lanie was on her way to pick him up and we were all sad that she had to turn around and head home. Driving may be safer this morning at least.
Wedding on Monday night...Happy New Year everyone.
  • Lorraine

Kathy B, i think I read that you can put dryer sheets between the mattresses to drive the bed bugs away. Has anyone else heard this? That has to be very frustrating & not something your loved one should endure in a nursing home.
  • MarianneKT's Mom

    Congratulations chele!

Kathy B prayers are with you.

  • Colleen

Hi seayasoon.  We get international prepaid calling cards from Walgreen's when they are sale.  Hope that helps.

  • pietschie

Kathy B, i would love to meet some navy moms, since i am new at this , and my son is very young, i worry,he turned 18 in bootcamp, and he left for Goose Creek yesterday. i would also love to help with goodie boxes!! when in January would you meet ??

  • my3boys

I have a question that spins off of pietschie question:

Would the Michigan moms meet other places around the state, or just the east side?  I too would love to get more plugged in, but living in West Michigan, making a regular drive to the east side would be difficult.  Could someone give me some feedback as to how gettting together works?  thanks moms

  • pietschie

hi, my3boys.. where in Michigan do you live?? i am in Saint Clair Shores, and i would be willing to drive , maybe an hour or so out of my way to make it easier for everybody to meet

  • CathieRenee

Chele...congrats to you and your sailor! My son is Aircrew and enjoyed NACCS, especially Disney Week. He said he would pay to do it again. Does your son want helo or fixed wing?
  • CathieRenee

my3boys, I am on the west side of the state also. Sometimes the east siders come to the west side and vice versa. A couple of times we have set up meet and greets near Lansing to make it easier for both sides. It just depends on who is setting it up and where a suitable venue can be found.
  • Dunesmom

Hello Ladies!  I see some new mommas, Welcome All!  Chele i have an Aircrewman too.  A school was a tough one but tell him to stick to it they are very helpful.  It was a long road for Dune but  he is working in the last part of his schooling before he deployes.  this all started the end of August of 10.  Patience it the what they and all of us have to live by....I bet Colleen has that box of tissues used up by now.   I so want to call her but i bet she won't let go of her Sailor to answer the phone;)-  well that's how i would be, lol...Wishing each and everyone of you a New Year of Happieness and the Safety to All of your Sailors and Loved ones

  • Colleen

My boy is home!!!!!  Yep, tissues are gone!  I made beef stew and got it started this morning in the crock pot, so when he walked in he just said "ahhhhh beef stew".  Gotta go hug him again!

  • pietschie

Colleen.. i am sooooo happy for you, and lol these boys just love their food !!

  • shannon-ship-03-div-315

Welcome new ladies. Pietschie and my3boys. Anyone one else. Hello. I'm in warren Michigan area. I love meeting. Things go crazy around this time of year but I'm hoping things settle down. I have a son in C school now and a son in law in Great Lakes in A school. I go to school because I'm unemployed learning a new trade. Just got my associate degree but still working on a certificate. I have 4 girls. My son left yesterday from getting a 10 day leave. Just finished A school and was the top third in his class. He is going to be an AO. He is now at C school in California. Hope he does well cuz when he's done with this he is assigned at the moment to a helicopter squadron. I'm so proud. Welcome again.
  • MarianneKT's Mom

Colleen - so glad your son is home!

  • CathieRenee

Colleen...yeah! Enjoy your time with your son!
  • my3boys

Thanks for the welcome ladies...Once I better understand how all of this works, I would love to have something over this way, but in the meantime is this where I would find out where the meet and greets are? We are in Muskegon .

We are going into week 4 of our son being gone to boot camp.  This last week was the hardest thus far...finally caught up with me :)

Really hoping to find ways to stay connected myself and support our son within a community.  Would love to be a part of doing care packages or anything that we could get our other boys plugged into that give them that wonderful American Pride

  • Lorraine

My son came home at 2 today and we've had a great time together. The wedding is tomorrow night and everything is ready to go. This is such a special time for our family, gaining a daughter and grandson. I fixed him a huge steak and all the trimmings. You'd think it was the best steak he had ever eaten so that made me happy!

Seayasoon, my son was able to use his iPod touch to communicate from overseas. He may have been using Skype or Facetime so it didn't cost him anything when he was in a wi-fi hotspot.

Pietschie, I live in the middle, south of Marshall. I've been to meet and greets in the east, the west and in the middle :-) We can have them wherever the mood strikes us. Just keep following this group to find out who's planning what. The east siders have started something pretty regular which the rest of us haven't yet - but we could!

    Welcome my3boys.

Shannon, good luck with your own schooling. I went back to college at age 50 and finished my bachelor's degree. Good luck to the sailors in your family. My son is a nuke submarine sailor, currently in dry dock for repairs. We were talking today about his opportunities and we are both so glad he chose the Navy.

  • Lorraine

Colleen, forgot to mention how happy I was to see your post of your son's visit. Have fun!

  • CathieRenee

Lorraine...so happy for you to have your sailor home! Please post some wedding pictures for us.
  • Chele ship 12 div 048

CathieRenee- what is Disney week? I am thinking is is going to want fixed wing but I could be wrong. I have a question about the living qtrs once in Pensacola. What are they like? How many people share the same quarters? I heard that some people get personal DVDs for PIR. My son is going to be taking his I pad from the airport Pensacola . I know he is anxious to be able to connect with the rest of the world. Have you had a chance to visit your son in Pensacola? We are hoping to go down when my other 2 kids are on spring break.
  • Colleen

Lorraine, so happy that your son made it home.  It is funny how whatever we cook is the best food they ever tasted!  It does make our Momma hearts happy.  Have fun at the wedding and post pics when you can.

  • CathieRenee

Chele... The DVD for PIR should be ordered by your sailor when he has pictures done at RTC. Or they can be ordered from RTC for a short time after PIR. My sailor's PIR was in 2004, so I got a VHS tape that I converted to DVD.

The 1st full week of NACCS is Hell Week. At RTC all recruits must pass a 3rd class swim test, aircrew candidates must pass the 2nd class swim test.
All aircrew candidates retake the 2nd class swim test, learn survival swim strokes, treads and floats, swim the mile swim in full flight gear (including boots) and must pass several different swim tests.

Disney Week is the 2nd full week of NACCS. This is the week of all the "rides". The hypoxia chamber, Spin and Puke, Helo Dunker, Parachute Drag and Parachute Landing Simulation.

The 3rd full week is "Graduation Week". Bay Ops, pistol quals and Tom Cruise day where they get their leather flight jackets and flightsuits. Graduation is informal. My son's class had theirs in a conference room. They will also be assigned their sub-rating at graduation.

My sailor went through NACCS in 2004 at the same time Hurricane Ivan went through. I'm sure the living quarters are completely different now. I think Dunesmom can speak to this as her son was there recently and I think she has visited Pensacola herself.
  • Sailor's Mom

With the advent of this new year, reflecting over the events recently past;  thoughts are turning to you, the mothers of daughters who have chosen to serve this country in significant effort and diligence.  My heart holds you close, and although I do not post often, you are in my thoughts and prayers today.

  • Lorraine

It was just a small, intimate wedding with immediate family but we now have a new daughter-in-love, new grandson, and lots of memories. The wedding was at our daughter's place and with her hubby's help, they created a beautiful backdrop for the vows on their deck.

  • MarianneKT's Mom

Wonderful pics! Congratulations to the cople.  Thanks for sharing....

  • Colleen

How wonderful Lorraine!  Thanks for sharing your/their day with us.  Congratulations to them.

  • Mary

Hi, I'm so glad I found this group. We live in Livonia and our son Thomas is deployed in Japan right now, but in May he will be going to Bahrain for a year. This sure is such a hard time of year for all of us... Happy New Year to All. :)
  • MarianneKT's Mom

Welcome Mary.  Your're not too far away from me hear in Ypsi. My daughter was in Japan for 3 yrs.  We have others with sailors in Bahrain.

  • Chele ship 12 div 048

Congrats Lorraine the pictures are beautiful.
  • Lorraine

Hi, Yvette, yes he is a sweet little boy who gives great hugs. I love him (all of them) bunches!

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Lorraine, Congratulations!!!! Love the pictures, beautiful!!! Enjoy your new family!!

Mary, Welcome!!! Our Sailor just returned from deployment in early November, may be looking to go out again. We are waiting to hear word, nothing set in stone just yet. They ported in Bahrain twice while out, stayed on base though.

Happy New Year to all!!! Kevin and I enjoyed a day to ourselves New Year's Eve. We went down to the city, Partridge Creek Mall. We walked some, went to P.F. Changs for lunch and a drink, walked more, went to Bar Louie's for a snack and another drink, walked some more, then went back to P. F. Chang's for dessert and yet another drink!!!! We met and talked to so many people, we laughed so much!! We have never done this type of day before, we loved it. Then on our way out from the mall we run into a wedding party getting pictures taken with the beautiful Christmas lights everywhere. They were taking their pictures, one asked if they could rake some silly ones, so they did. Then Kevin says let's go get in their picture........No, we didn't, I wouldn't do it. He tells me we missed an opportunity to have fun, but the day was already fun!!! We headed home, Korey and his girlfriend, Olivia went to some friends, Kacy and Madison was at a friends house. So, it was us and the dogs. We ended up.falling asleep, waking up at 12:10 and missed the ball drop!!!! I guess walking around in the fresh air for about 8 hrs, three drinks and good food just made us tired!! Lol Kevin is back to work today, it was great having him home for the past week and a half!!! He didn't do any work, not even a little!!! Now, he will be back to 70-80 hrs a week......though that may be changing soon. An opportunity has come up, we are praying on it as we need to make a decision fairly soon. Less hours, more pay, always tough to decide.........not really!!!!

Wishing everyone a wonderful, healthy, blessed, New Year!!!!
  • Lorraine

Sharon, what a neat evening. I'd like to try that sometime. The newlyweds are enjoying the Castle for a couple nights. Can't wait to hear what they think of it.

  • Dmk828

Kathy- thoughts and prayers with you and your family. It's never easy. Even when they are very sick and you know they will be going to a better place, it's still very hard. Also understand how difficult it is for your daughter not being able to be home. Prayers with her as well.
  • eileenz

Kathy B- my heart and prayers are with you. My mom was in hospice....and I discovered that regardless of what people thought, I was NOT ready to say goodbye. Which probably sounds ridiculous, but it's true. God bless.....
