Kathy B, The same thing happened with my mom in 2008. When we were told she had only a week to live, we couldn't believe it. I don't know how they figure it out and no, it still doesn't make it any easier. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

    Kathy, I am so sorry. Like the others have said, no matter how much you thinner you are ready, when the time comes, you truly are not. It is the hardest days you will ever face. Having gone through this with my mom having cancer, I prayed each day to end her suffering, then the morning came and I wanted all that time back not wanting to let her go. My dad had dementia, we were allowed to spend the last two weeks of his life with him. The 'wife' wouldn't allow us to see him. This is a very long story, but I have some good last memories. He was out of our lives more than in because of the 'wife.' He asked me one day, 'do you think mumma will take me back?' He made me laugh, my mom had passed 16 years prior and the 'wife' never allowed us to talk about her. Enjoy the last moments with your dad, will keep you all in prayers and may God give him a peaceful passing. Sorry too, the girls will be so far away and unable to attend. Prayers for them as well. {{{{{NMH}}}}}}}

Kathy, sorry to hear about your Dad.  Hospice is wonderful.  They really take good care of their patients.  We had Hospice come in for my Dad.  It's never easy even when you know they aren't going to make it.  Hugs to you.  Prayers for your family.

  • MarianneKT's Mom

He will be starting NACCS in Pensacola next week which will last 4 weeks. Sounds very intense, lots of swimming and PT.

Welcome all new Navy Moms!  Glad you are here.

I'm down to the last 36 hours with our Son.  NOT ENOUGH TIME!!  I'll let you know how church was with the singing of Eternal Father, Strong To Save.

  • Lorraine

Chele, so glad you had a great time at PIR and some extra time with your son. Hope you get the gate pass at the airport and have a safe trip home. There will be lots of new things for you to learn from this point on. We like to remind ourselves from time to time that "Navy Normal" is anything but routine for us :-)

Colleen, I've got you beat unfortunately. Just said good-bye to my sailor. He's off to spend some time with his bride and she will take him to the airport tomorrow.

Welcome to the new moms. I'm not far from Battle Creek and my sailor is a nuke submariner, currently in dry dock for repairs.

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Chele, So happy that you were able to get some extra time with T and PIR was great! It truly is an amazing day to say the least!

pietschie, so happy that your experience with PIR was great as well! Welcome!

Lorraine and Colleen, we know that you had a great time having your Sailors home and it is tough to let them go back. Lorraine, hope the newlyweds had a wonderful time at the Castle!!!

We will try to get back into a routine with the girls back to school today. Korey has been accepted and now a student at Specs Howard School of Media Arts!!! He goes tomorrow to get his schedule and his iPad, along with all the final information he will need to begin classes on 22 January. He is really excited to be going to college, he will go into Broadcasting-Radio and we are sure he wil do very well. He has looked to dad and mom to cover his schooling as he wasn't able to receive any grants or scholarships. He did get a student loan for half of the amount, the other half will come out of our pockets on a monthly basis. Not good timing with Kevin changing jobs at the start of February. An opportunity has come up that he will own the Engineering Division of his cousin's company. The cousin does other things, so Kevin will run the engineering end of things. We are praying that all goes smooth, we know it will be busy as the big three are releasing many jobs to be done by smaller companies. Kevin was self-employed for over ten years before the bottom fell out of things in 08-09, so it has been a slow come-back. I prayed on it and all I hear is, 'Trust in Me' so I will trust in Him with all things as we move forward. We have been so blessed these past couple of years where others wouldn't think so. We trust, we believe, He has given!

  • Colleen

My Sailor is in the air back to SD.  He had a 4 hr. lay over in Chicago.  Boy, it never gets easier letting them go.  I'm walking thru the house wanting to hear, "Mom, what's for dinner?"  It's so quiet again.  The only thing I won't miss is the grocery bill.  I forgot how much he can eat!

  • Lorraine

Hey, Colleen, I know what you mean about the food. I spent extra on meat because Scott likes steak, crab legs, and burgers. Can't believe how pencil thin he is with that big appetite of his! And yes, it's a lot quieter around here.

Sharon, Scott and Lanie had a great time at the Castle but they didn't try the hot tub on the roof. Best wishes to your hubby in his new job and Korey at school. I echo your thanks for God's blessings.

  • Colleen

Kathy - sorry to hear about your Dad.  I'm wrapping my arms around you.  It's tough even when you know it's going to happen.  Prayers to your family to get through the next few days.  Peace, my friend and to your daughter.  She must feel lost.

Sharon, I hope all goes well your husband as he transitions to his new job and Korey.  Big changes for your family this year.  How's things with Diego?

Rich made it back to SD.  He has today off to catch up on his sleep.  Deployment is on Monday.

  • Lorraine

Kathy, sending more hugs your way and special prayers for your daughter so far from home.

  • MarianneKT's Mom

Kathy B - Prayers continue. Thankful he is at peace in heaven.

Sharon - Congratulations on your husband's new job and your son's school.

Katie's ship has started her sea trials.  She FINALLY rec'd the first pkg I sent in early December.  Not sure why the second pkg arrived around Christmas.  Just glad she got them all.  Surprisingly she said the cookies were still good.

  • Chele ship 12 div 048

Kathy- deepest sympathy for you and your family.

Sharon- what a great way to start a new year. Hoping all goes well with Kevin's new job. Great news for Korey that sounds like it is a great opportunity for him. Did he change his mind about joining the service? I vaguely remember hearing at he was going to join.

I talked to T tonight he s in Pensacoa waiting to start NACCS from what I have read they are pretty backed up. He said that also. How does all of that work? What do they do while waiting to start? He has a terrible cold. He wasn't sick on Sunday but sounded terrible today said he was asleep by 7:30 last night. It was great to know I could talk to him for a few minutes.
  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Thanks all, so appreciate your thoughts and prayers. We will see how things go, we have been thrown a wrench of sorts. Praying on things, not sure what God is trying to show us. *sigh* Korey has put joining the military for now, he started.dating Olivia and that has changed his mind, now school for 13 months. One never knows though, there is time. Kacy is still as strong in her decision to join, she had an aide in her Argiscience class today, an older woman who has a son in the Navy presently. They chatted for quite some time, the woman cared for a Korean War vet who recently passed and it brought tears to her eyes as she shared his story with Kacy. Kacy is more inspired to serve our country, and so proud of those who have served, those currently serving our country. So proud of our girl!!!Diego is still waiting to hear what his orders will be. Nothing new for the moment, nothing with him and Kelsey. She is still here as far as we know, she hasn't come over nor contacted us since Christmas night. It hurts, hurts deep, but nothing we can do. We have to let them work things out, though we will be supportive as always.

Kathy, again, I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. It is not easy losing a parent, I lost my mom in December 1992 when Diego was only four months old. My dad passed in February 2009, I will always remember how I felt the moment I learned he had passed. Not easy at all, will be keeping you and the family in prayers. Prayers for R too, as she is so far away and having to go through this alone per say.

Chele, hoping T is feeling better. There is so much going around for everyone. I haven't been feeling the best lately, just laying low for right now. Hoping too, that it isn't too long before classes begin, not fun just hanging out, then again...he is in FL and having warmer weather than we are. Lol

Marianne, keeping Katie and all shipmates in prayers as they go through trials. Glad she got her first package and hope all was still good.
  • MarianneKT's Mom

Sharon - will continue with you and yours in my prayers.

Chele - hope T is better soon.  Hope it is not the flu.   I work in a Pediatrician's office and sick visits are definitely up.

Katie's cookies were fine.  One guy in her div really liked one of the cookies that Alicia had sent, so hopefully she will make them again.  We (my daughter Alicia and I) are going to try not to send pkgs too close together or the same recipes in our packages.  Not that anyone complains, just trying to spread it out.  We don't mind requests.  Just got a new oven, so I am happy to try it out and bake soon.  Plus I like to send cookies in the 'Molly's Adopt A Sailor' boxes each month.

Katie said they are very busy at sea....if they are not working, there are inspections.  Noticed in the recent pic posts on the FB site that they had 2 burials at sea as well.

  • shannon-ship-03-div-315

Kathy prayers for you and your family I'm so sorry for your lost

AharonGod will show your family great things through these hard times. Praying for you too

My son is doing good. He got to meet his sponcer and his new unit. He is very excited. That makes this momma happy.

To everyone else I will pray for you and your kids. Welcome to the new comers and congrats to others.
  • Dunesmom

Prayers and Hugs to you Kathy and your Family.  May your Dad peace start your healing

  • tysmom

    Kathy B:

I am sorry for you loss, but he is whole now, praising our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That fact alone gives us peace. But being human we still want to hug them and talk to them. You have my sympathy.

  • Colleen

Welcome Sean's stpmon!  We are scattered all over MI.  We try to meet a couple times a year together but sometimes the east/west meet separately.  I have a cabin in West Branch and we live in Rockford - north of GR.  Jeanne's right - hang on for the ride.

    Kathy, how are you doing?

    Dunesmom - miss you girl.

    Sharon, how are things going?

My Sailor deploys at 1:00 our time today.  We got to talk to him yesterday.  So who knows when the next time will be.  He's got plenty of international calling cards and stamps.  We will be in SD when he returns in late fall.  I'm going to miss talking to him.  We had pictures taken at church when he was home a week ago, so I'm going to try to download a picture.  Cross your fingers.

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Kathy, so sorry I wasn't able to be with you at your dad's funeral. I am still not feeling good, the hacking is getting to me for sure. So tired of feeling crappy. Keeping you in prayers.

Colleen, thanks for asking. Not feeling too swift for over a week now, so laying low and only doing what I have to do. As far as Diego, we texted today and no orders have come down yet. He is still waiting. Kelsey is supposed to be going down to Norfolk as the ship has their big holiday party Thursday. I am praying that Diego does what he needs to do. I texted her on Friday to check in with her since there has been no communication with us at all since Christmas night. Since then, I have found out more and I am not a happy camper to be honest. Let's just say, she is no longer referred to as my 'daughter-in-love' and she has done it to herself. Her behavior is unbecoming of a married woman, hanging out at her boyfriend's parent's house the night before she heads down to Norfolk!!! Really????? She must have been invited for dinner again, only this time she didn't have to worry about her husband being here. I need to figure out how to get her out of our picture. She doesn't deserve to be there. Torked off??? You bet I am!!!!
  • tysmom

Sean's stpmom: My son is in Hawaii. He passed first in his class in A school and got to choose first. That's where he wanted to go and there was one spot open for his rate..I am glad he is there. We were in Hawaii in Dec. He will be deployed late winter, early spring.

  • Chele ship 12 div 048

I am ready to meet all of you on the east side. Lets set a date.
  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Thanks all!!! One day at a time for the 'drama' here. Nothing new on that. The ship's party was last night, will probably chat with Diego over the weekend. We have texted a.couple times this week, still waiting on any orders. I asked about the award everyone received on the ship, he told me he 'didn't go, don't care about that stuff, do my job and go home.' This makes me sad, he should be so proud of all he does, we are!! He is going through so much right now, thanks for keeping him in prayers!

Kathy, thanks for the advice.......but, NO onions for me!!! Don't like them at all and don't buy them either! Lol

LET'S SET A DATE EAST SIDERS!!! Like Kathy said, we all need some hugs!!!!!!

I have been dealing with some tooth and jaw pain on the left side. It has been so extreme and I have a high pain tolerance. Went to the dentist yesterday, she said there is an infection and put me on antibiotics, then tells me the tooth is cracked and no saving it. I have an appt next week for an oral surgeon. Now, the tough part......I am 'allergic' to all the 'caines' and the thought of having to have this tooth pulled scares me!!! It is a life threatening allergy, found from a dental extraction in 1985. It causes 'hypoxia' and it is not pretty, actually very scary. So, we will see what the oral surgeon says, I have such issues with anesthesia overall. I have never had tooth pain like this, wowzer!!!! Someone come and hit me to knock me out. I am on Penicillin, Mortin, and Vicodin, and still have dull pain, doesn't make me 'pain-free.' Let's all go have a shot together! Lol Oh wait, can't mix drugs and ETOH!!!! Darn it, well, will have one when I can! Lol

Thinking of everyone, keeping all in prayers!!!
  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Kathy, that is so sad to hear. Will keep them all in prayers!!

I had to have my antibiotic changed to something stronger. I stopped the Vicodin, it was making me really sick. So, now only taking the Motrin and right on schedule every four-five hrs to keep this pain in check. The dental office was able to move my appt to Tuesday from Thursday so that is good. I will need IV anesthesia if not general anesthesia, will see what the oral surgeon says is best. Having that allergy and a 'latex' allergy, it is crazy! I need to get this taken care of, recover, and get back to being me!! Time for some cocktails!! Lol

Ruth, good to hear from you. Our Sailor is waiting on new orders, don't like what he is saying they may be. Nothing in hand yet, so have to wait a bit longer to hear.
  • MarianneKT's Mom

    Kathy - will be praying.

Sharon - praying for you too

  • Colleen

Ruth, good to see you back on.  How are the kids this year?

Sharon, hope you get that tooth taken care of and you are back to yourself.  Tooth pain is not fun.  Be careful what you say to your DIL because there is always a chance that they could mend the marriage.  I understand that your heart hurts.  I just don't want anything to come back at you.

Lorraine - where are you?  Are you ok?

  • shannon-ship-03-div-315

Sharon...sorry about the DIL. Shame shame. I am praying my son will let go of his gf. She posts on fb how unhappy she is and how relationships should be a job. Goes and posts oh I got something on my eye and tjeres a new guy at work how embarrassing. I talked to my so. He's not happy but loves her. Ugh!! He deserves someone who is will to sacrifice for him as he does for our country.

I am with you all we do need a east side get together. I'm still struggling with unknown health problems. Dr. Appt Wednesday to see what all my tests have to
    say.

Kathy I'm still praying for your family.

For my son he said C school is mentally draining and tests are hard but he is passing with high 88 89 percents. He's going to be on a helicopter squadron. He's met his unit and totally Loves them. That makes me very happy.

    God bless all you ladies.
  • shannon-ship-03-div-315

Mistake found. Gf saids how relationships shouldn't be job and if it is she quits. But then she talks to my boy and all is worked out. Drives me crazy. My so. Saids he is tired of it. Well I'm really tired of it.
  • Lorraine

Hello! I've been on a cruise to The Bahamas out of Charleston SC and then I got the flu Sunday when I returned. Haven't had time to catch up yet.
Sharon, hoping your tooth problem gets taken care of.
Kathy B, so very sorry to hear about the suicide...your daughter has seen a lot of heartbreak.
  • Lorraine

Sharon, I saw Kathy B's onion recommendation for coughs. My aunt always recommended taking the herb Mullein and it works for me.
  • Colleen

Lorraine, glad to see you back on but sad to hear you are not feeling well.  I was sick before Christmas and it lasted until just last week.  I was sick when Rich was home.  I did ok, but didn't feel good at all.  It wasn't the flu, I had that other crud.  Hope you get better real soon.

  • MarianneKT's Mom

Lorraine - welcome back! Hope you feel better soon.

  • Lorraine

Thanks, Colleen and Marianne. Sorry to hear you had the long version, Colleen. Hope everything will go smoothly for Rich's deployment. Keep us posted.
  • Colleen

I haven't heard anything from him yet.  He has been underway for 1 week now.  The CO's wife has been the Stockdale's N4M and had links for the news coverage of it leaving.  It was nice to see them.

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Colleen, thanks and I don't say much of anything to our DIL, there has been no contact. She has been back in Norfolk since last Wednesday, they had the ship's holiday party and had a great time. Kevin chatted briefly with Diego on Sunday, they were going to a friend's house to watch football. We haven't asked anything, they need to figure things out as it is their marriage, their future. I am sure we will find out in due time.

Shannon, thanks!!! Best your son is not married!!!! If she is talking like this now, then she is truly not the right person for him at all!!! Keeping you in prayers for your health and you get some answers soon!!!

Lorraine, sorry to hear you have had the flu, hope you feel better soon! Glad you enjoyed the cruise, sounds like fun! Thanks for the suggestion of the herb, have never heard of this one. The cough is finally better after almost three weeks!

Tooth update........went to see the doctor this afternoon. He is an M.D. and does facial and reconstructive surgery. The tooth and bone is all infected, abscessed, and changed the antibiotic again. This is the third one is six days! Changed the pain meds too, but haven't taken any since Sunday because I can tolerate the pain. I know, crazy, but I love my organs and don't want any more drugs than I need. The doctor will pull the tooth on Friday afternoon, at the hospital because of my allergies, low blood pressure, barring any complications I can go home. If not, they will keep me overnight. He talked about having me go through the ER if our insurance won't approve it tomorrow, they have to get it pre-approved. He will get me in and this tooth out any way he can as it needs to come out ASAP! His words, not mine. This whole thing just wigs me out, it really stresses me with my history. So, asking for prayers and will update ya post-op when I can. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers they are appreciated!!!
  • Lorraine

Sharon, you certainly have a serious problem and glad it will be taken care of soon. I just don't know how you're holding up until then so we are praying for you.

I started coughing after I went to bed last night so I got up, took two Mullein and used my throat spray. It settled right down and I got a good night's sleep. You should be able to find Mullein at Meijer or Wal-Mart in their herb supplements. I bought Soloray brand so probably got it at a health food store.

I'm feeling better each day and food is more appealing. Just wish there was a magic genie that would cook for me when I don't feel like it. Take care, everyone, and thank goodness it's warming up a little.

  • Lorraine

Kathy B, please post a picture of the homecoming! So excited for you and your daughter.
