Hi everyone - I'm just following up on the proposed get together. Are we still looking at the 23rd? Are families included? If it's a go - what time and where?

Everyone, including spouses are welcome. I need to know who is coming. So far it only seems to be 2 people. I am flexible  regarding locations.  I would be coming from the I-275 and I-96 area.

PKM- if we meet during the day my husband will be with me. if it is evening then it will probably be just me. We are off of 131 north of I94. How about meeting in Jackson?

Hi all - Happy Friday!

My son just sent me a couple pictures - they are at Higgins Lake.  He says "it has the clearest water I've ever seen in a lake and we can go out at least 200 feet and it's still only to our butts!"  And he said "the water is the perfect temp - warmer than the ocean but not a jacuzzi obviously".  Sounds like a nice place to visit ;-D

B'sNukeMoM - that sounds wonderful!!!

B's mom, Higgins Lake is amazing. He'll have to get to the U.P. To Palms Book state park to see clearer water (cold but almost prehistoric looking with large fish and an eerie bottom). They have a raft over the pond to pull yourself across and look through the glass bottom. Kitch-iti-kipee is another name for the spot. The water never freezes but is always cold.

I will pass that on to him Lorraine, it sounds like fun - thanks for sharing!  I'm not sure if his gf already knows about it since she is from there but I like the fact that I can give them suggestions (even though I'm in CA).  Thanks to my Navy moms lol!!!

I took a few minutes and googled it Lorraine - it looks amazing!  Going to put that on my list of things to see when I finally get to visit B in Michigan ;-D

Hi all - Happy Tuesday.  I want to wish a Happy 29th Birthday to my son ;-D (Although I don't know how he can be 29 if I'm only 39 lol!)

B'sNukeMom - looks like your sailor had a fantastic birthday!!! I am with you the kids are getting older but I'm not :)

Wow! I can't believe your son is 29!! He is SOOO old :)

I also can't believe I just checked in for the first time in a while because I have been so busy and the first thing I see is MSU stuff!  I just can't get away that green and white.

What kind of job is B looking for?  They are hiring at the Target by Meridian Mall starting at $15/hr.  Does he or his GF have experience with dogs?  There are lots of dog walking and boarding and house sitting jobs in East Lansing this summer too.  All the restaurants are hiring .. delivery driver tips for pizza and jimmy johns are good around here too.  He is so smart though - he is probably looking for some other kind of job.  Working as a Shipt shopper is really good money if you like grocery shopping too. And if he doesn't mind drunk college kid barf in his car, uber drivers make a lot around here.  Tell him not to text the "18.50 per appointment" signs that are all over the place around here - they want him to sell cutco knives to his friends and family.

I am might be able to come this Saturday, it just depends on the time and place.  Like around 4 pm works for me - and I would love to bring my husband and 15 yr old!

Lol kai cat!  They also got him some MSU sandals ;-D  He's all set now for school!

I passed on the info to him about Target.  And yes they do have experience with dogs....his GF is studying veterinary/animal care at MSU - they have a couple dogs and she volunteers at a wildlife place.  B has gone with a couple of times to help out.  He worked p/t at BJ's in VA - it's like a Costco or Sams Club - I think he mentioned he might look into Costco in MI.  And when school starts he's going to see about an on campus job.  He just needs something little to help out. Hopefully something will work out.

SubMom - right?!?  I can't be getting older!!!!!

Happy 1st day of Summer!

Hi all - Happy Monday!

I'm excited - get to see B and his gf!  They are in Atlantic City right now and they fly into Vegas late Thursday and we are driving in on Friday-Monday.  Looking forward to seeing them and hanging out.  They're coming in for another Navy friends wedding - works for us though since Vegas is only a few hours away. Counting down the days!

Yeah!!! How exciting for you!! B's GF was a nuke too?  I think B would be better off with a job off campus. Nearly all the campus jobs I know of are only 9.50/hr.

kai cat - yes, they were both Nukes - B was on the Truman and C was on the Lincoln.  Refresh my memory - do you work at MSU or UofM?  I have no doubt he'll find some type of p/t work during the school year - I just think it would be easier to have a job on campus since he's already there.

Oh you know I'll have a wonderful visit!  Can't wait ;-D

I don't work for MSU - but I live right next to campus! (I live about 1 block from the sheep research center LOL - on the outskirts of the farmland they own) but - my other son who is going to be a sophomore - 2 of his friends parents teach there, 1 works in administration.  And then 2 of the parents I babysit for occasionally also have their phd's and work on the research side of MSU.  It's like if you live around here, you just get really involved in the school.  They are always doing things with the High School here through the Band, or with tutoring, sporting events, or art exhibits and like every student teacher we get comes from MSU.

We actually eat at the cafeteria (Brody Hall) at least once a week - it's only $10.50 per person and it's daily specials are created by the culinary students/staff.  My nuke's high school graduation was even at MSU - they rent the building all the time!

So I have never even taken a class there and I technically don't have anything to do with the school - but there is just something weird about living here where they suck the whole community into supporting them.

I just always keep my eyes open for what jobs they post (not because I want one - just because it's something to read!) and of course, I'm familiar with the East Lansing/Okemos area because I live here.

I am hoping you will stick a quarter into a machine for me and win at least a hundred back! I am excited for you to see them,

I am almost bouncing off the walls because I will finally fly to SC after the 4th of July to see my nuke!!  I can't wait to see SC, I haven't been there since I was about 5 years old.

kai cat - that's pretty cool that you are so involved with the university and nice that they encourage their "neighbors" to get involved.  Builds a nice community relationship ;-D  I will stick a quarter in a machine for you!  And fingers crossed it's the lucky one lol!

I'm so glad you are going to SC for a visit.  We went when B was there and had a really nice time.  Lots to see and do.  Be sure to look in the discussion forum on the nuke page and you'll see some ideas for places to visit ~ have fun!  I've been getting pictures from B & C from their trip to Atlantic City and it looks like they are having a lot of fun - only 2 more days till we get to see them ;-D

If there are any moms that live in/around Kalamazoo the Blue Star Moms will be hosting an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, July 10, 7:00 p.m. at the VFW Red Arrow Post. This will be a great time to come and check out the group and get information on their mission to support all branches of the military.

Had a great time in Vegas. It was so nice to see B & his GF!

Our son said he and his buddies were talking about signing paperwork prior to leaving for boot camp. Apparently he told his buddies that I was more than happy to take my lunch to go and sign him over to the Navy since he was only 17 at the time. Oh did I mention my husband sided with our son? They are both brats but they’re my brats.

SubMom - our visit was wonderful - not long enough but that's ok.  I'll take what I can get lol!

I chuckled at your story - sounds like something I would do lol!

We were visiting my dad in Prosser, WA and my dad took us to meet General Mattis - Secretary of Defense!  He was visiting the local tavern in Prosser and my dad got a call from one of Mattis’ friends who is also a friend of his and we went over & hung out. Very cool!  I even talked to him about our N4M website and we talked about the new deployment schedules. Very nice man and totally relatable. Here we all are-my dad is wearing his USS Boxer hat.
