law1999 - PIR is amazing!!! Our son was in boot camp at Christmas and PIR was end of January. It seems like yesterday. Sending hugs to you and your family.
WaterLily - enjoy every moment with your sailor!
I can say that missing a holiday with your sailor makes you enjoy the everyday time with them even more. I love to just sit and listen to my sailor talk and laugh with his Dad, family and friends.

Happy New Year to all my fellow Michigan moms! I’ve slowed down and enjoyed every moment that my sailor had been on leave. I felt guilty for smiling when he went out to run the snowblower for us this morning. We got about 6” at our house. He has always been such a help around the house and it was like old times this morning!

I'm sitting here enjoying the wonderful sunshine and smiling ear to ear listening to my sailor and husband talking. I know our time is limited and I thank God for every second. I hope and pray that all of my fellow Michigan Moms have a very blessed New Year.

My sailor is on his way back to Pensacola today. Having him for nearly 2 weeks was the biggest blessing imaginable! But the "see you laters" sure do make my eyes leaky.

First full week back to work for the New Year! Youngest returned to NE - we had a great time with him here but boy it was too short! B&C started the new semester at MSU today. The countdown has begun for the wedding! 7/19 will be here before we know it ;-D

im Kind of glad to be back to a full week of work - I worked 1 day, had 2 days off, worked 2 days, then off for the weekend. After 2 weeks of this I don’t know what day it is :)

Well MI Moms, it's been a rough week for our family. Our sailor is being removed from his school in Pensacola (JCAC at Corry) and entered hold today until he is re-rated. He was told to put together his top 10 list of rates he'd like to switch to, so it sounds like they're willing to give him some options pending what spots are available now. He wants to stay at Corry and switch to a different CT rate but heard that one is overmanned right now. And the waiting begins again.
He's been in school there since September. He's fought his way through tough classes but the last couple modules just kicked his butt and we could tell the stress was getting to him. So we'll see how things go now. Other Navy moms have said that this journey is rarely predictable. That's definitely true for my sailor. I just feel bad for him. He's a smart kid and it's hard to see him fail academically.
Good news: it's almost Friday. And it's warming up again in the mitten state. Yay.

WaterLily - they will get him into the correct rate and he will soar! Fingers crossed for him. I hope he can stay in Pensacola. NMH!!

WaterLily - I agree with SubMom - they will get him re-rated and everything will work out! Don't think of it as failing - it's just a different path. He's got this!

SubMom & B'sNukeMoM, thank you for your positivity! That's exactly what I need right now. My husband just said he talked to our sailor and that he seemed to be in very good spirits today so that makes me happy. I am an optimist and I know all will work out. The support from you ladies is priceless to me! NMH

The best thing is to hear that your son is in good spirits! Maybe it is a relief to him and now he can move on to something that he will be better fitted for. Keep us posted!

WaterLiliy - So glad that your son is in good spirits. Hopefully he will continue to be positive and just work to the best of his ability in the new rate he is given. Sounds like he is a hard worker and I am sure that he will do well.

This Navy life is so full of roller coasters! Stay positive and it will all work for the good of your sailor. It is hard to see them not get what they originally thought they wanted but then to see them succeed in the next step makes it worth it!

MarianneKT's Mom, thank you! Yep, he's an Eagle Scout, played 4 yrs of varsity football, worked a couple long, physical summers for a lawn/landscape company and just generally has the grit to keep himself moving no matter what. Can you tell I'm his biggest fan, haha?!
Seabeemom, it's good I love roller coasters. Of course, the motion sickness on this one sometimes gets the best of me. I do know he'll succeed as he moves forward. Thanks for your encouraging words also!
I spoke to my sailor last night and it was such a great conversation. He was laughing and joking and sounding much more like himself. I think he's slowly coming out of the fog of stress and that makes this mama feel so much better.

Now that our son is at his new command I decided it was time to strip the bedding and get it washed. When I grabbed his blanket I got a whiff and just stopped. I ended up sitting on his bed, hugging his blanket, taking in the smell and crying like a baby. Gosh I miss my kid!
