SubMom - sounds like fun! I wish I was in MI and could go.
Looks like we are planning our visit to MI this December! You probably think we are crazy to head to MI in December (I feel crazy going then lol!) but B & C will both be graduating from MSU - the dates are either 12/18 or 12/19 - so we will be there and hopefully we won't freeze!

SubMom, that event sounds fun! I wish I was available on that day to attend. Thanks for sharing it with us, though. How do we sponsor a vet?

Hi fellow Michigan moms! I have to share: I got to spend the weekend with my sailor and I am still smiling! You may remember I shared how he was being re-rated due to not making it through his A-school (JCAC) in Pensacola where he's been since September. He was in hold for awhile, then re-rated to EN, then in hold some more. He got his orders and it worked out that I could fly down on Thursday, then share the drive up to Great Lakes with him on Sat & Sun. We had all day Friday (after he did his final check-out down there) of quality R&R and then he packed up his car and we started our road trip. My husband and daughter met up with us in North Chicago yesterday where we grabbed some pizza, had a long leisurely meal, and then he checked in at the Navy Lodge where we were able to hang out as a family some more. We came back home last night and now my sailor is checking in at Great Lakes - his orders say he'll class up this Thursday so things are moving right along for him. He is really excited about this new direction and will be reporting to Norfolk (USS Mesa Verde) in early June.
I just want you all to know how much I've appreciated your support as my sailor continues this journey. Becoming a military family is an adjustment, for sure. But your words of encouragement help me more than you know!

Hi all - Happy Friday. Hubby and I were in Cabo for the last week - just got back to work yesterday. Sheesh everything has gotten crazy with the coronavirus while we were gone.....I can't believe how many things have been cancelled/postponed. Wow! I'm not trying to make light of it because it is serious - but this is just a little reminder.....

WaterLily - Yay! Glad to hear things are falling into place for your sailor and even better that you got to visit. Thankfully you got that visit in last weekend because with everything going on now it probably wouldn't be happening this weekend. It's nice to hear that he is excited too - that's the best news today!

B'sNukeMoM - That's great that you were able to get away and soak up some sunshine!
I feel incredibly lucky that my sailor had his transfer orders last weekend instead of this weekend or later. I have no doubt he would have been under some additional restrictions. This has been the weirdest week...to put it lightly. School cancelled for a month.....stores empty.....a few elderly clients at my office worried I might be carrying the virus after traveling through 3 different airports and 6 states last weekend. I just keep praying that life returns to normal (sooner than later). Be well, fellow Michigan moms.

Hi Michigan Moms! Stopping by to let you know I am thinking of all of you. Praying all of you are healthy.

Healthy here....youngest is on a plane from NE to CA right now. Layover in Denver. Like everywhere - all of UNL was shut down and his athletes were told no practice no events....so at least he'll be home for a few weeks until further notice. I'll be glad to have him home.
RTC put out a notice today that ALL PIR's are now cancelled effective immediately. They were doing them with the Sailors only and livestreaming them but not now. Cancelled - no large gatherings.
Ship homecomings have been delayed too. Things are crazy.
Stay safe everyone! NMH
B&C are hunkered down in Lansing. B works at Costco and they are still open. C is able to work from home. Both have had all their classes (MSU) switched to online and C was taking an online exam this morning when I texted. So far so good for them.

SubMom, thanks for checking in! I work for a CPA as a tax preparer so this is the time of year when we pull 80+ hour weeks to get it all done. Then COVID-19 happened. We're still processing returns but our office practices sure have changed. Thankfully we have a secure document exchange portal (that better not crash on us!) and that really helps us with the social distancing.
I have to say....I know not all Navy moms feel the same way as me..... but I'm thankful my sailor is where he is. I have full confidence that the Navy will do everything possible to keep him safe and supported.
Hugs to you all!

B’sNukeMoM - so glad he gets to come home! I’m sure B is exhausted. Our Costco has been Insane but every single employee has rocked it! It’s just sad how things are playing out. So glad C can work from home. My husband works at the local university. The students have remote classes but are still in dorms as there are a ton of international students. I’m more concerned for my husband as he is in maintenance and all over campus.
WaterLily - hoping tax season goes smoothly (and no computer crashes)! I am an estimator for the food division of a local a corrugated company. We do pizza and takeout boxes and everyone is calling looking for product. It has been insane but I am sure it will taper off soon.
NMH - stay safe and healthy

Hi all - Happy Tuesday! B told me yesterday that Michigan went on lockdown orders so they are home with all the animals. He said Costco is still crazy - of course ours here in CA have been too - hours long lines to get in (I mean people lining up at 5:30AM!). We haven't been but I'm going to need to make a grocery store or Costco run sometime in the very near future :-/ Not looking forward to it though.
The bachelorette party was cancelled - the girls had planned on going to Niagara Falls 4/3-4/6 and they were also hoping to hop into Canada.....nope none of that now! We are crossing our fingers that things settle down by wedding time in July.
Got the youngest home - enjoying having him here, although now we aren't sure if he'll be able to get back to NE on 4/9. They were talking this morning of cancelling most domestic flights for a bit......we'll just have to play everything by ear I guess. This is getting weirder by the day :(
I hope everyone is staying safe.....our company is still open but for how long I don't know.......

These times we are living through right now are so surreal. My husband is part of the sales team at a large local dealer and was handed paperwork to file for temporary unemployment yesterday. They're ranked 12th in the US for Chevy sales so my husband is actually glad they are shutting down the flow of people coming in for now. I know it was hard for him to leave last night but stopping the spread is the #1 priority right now and I'm glad to have him at home with our 13-year old daughter for the time being, staying away from others.
I work for a small CPA firm and we have closed to foot traffic and working limited hours. We provide payroll processing for our business clients, as well as mandatory monthly & quarterly employment reporting so we still need to keep those services going. We're also working remotely with our individuals and small business clients who need to get their tax returns filed to claim refunds and get those funds deposited to their bank accounts.
I talked to my sailor last night and his schooling is still moving forward. There was talk at Great Lakes of the schools shutting down for awhile but so far his has not and he's excited about that. He's anxious to get through it and into the fleet in a few months. But I guess we're all just taking things one day at a time.
Be well everyone!

Surreal is a perfect description. I work for an independent corrugated company and 50% of us are working remotely. Unfortunately anyone that runs a machine has to be hands on. I’m glad we are considered an essential business but it really worries me for the ones that have to report every day. I hope we can continue to stay open. My husband and I were awoken late last night to a call from our sailor. The entire crew is being quarantined prior to deployment. It was wonderful to hear his voice. My siblings and I have been planning a surprise party for our parents 50th wedding anniversary but I am thinking we will need to cancel. Praying for everyone’s safety and health.

I got a message from B&C yesterday - the wedding venue has asked them to come up with a back up date for the wedding in case the 7/19/2020 date can't happen. They went with 10/4/2020. They will have to make a final decision on 6/1 as to whether or not the 7/19 date is a go....As of now CA is on lockdown until 4/30 and then a decision will be made then as to whether or not it's extended. So......who knows?!?

Got pictures from B&C yesterday. Showed them with 70* weather on Wednesday and then saw you all had snow yesterday! Crazy!
We've had rain ALL week here in CA. Making up our rain totals for the lack of rain in Jan/Feb/March.
We made it another week! TGIF

B’sNukeMoM - the weather has been crazy for sure! Wednesday was a beautiful day. We had windows open and too a long walk. That evening we had a major storm that came through- I half expected to end up in OZ! Thankfully we came out of it will only hail damage (pretty extensive but better than it could have been). MI is on stay at home orders through end of April but I keep seeing on the news where large groups still continue to gather. I just hope everything works out for B&C with their wedding!
