Gerry: He is ok...just bruised up a little...He said they threw him down on the street.....

LuvinMatt; The 133 Ombudsman said they thought there was a street address I could send package from Fed EX to get things to him quicker....They'll let me know on Monday.

  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Thanks Patricia...I'll do that...How will I know that I'm sending it to the location inside the NEX on his base?
  • luvinmatt

It does not have to be sent to a specific location. He can pick ut up at any western union in the world. When you fill out the info you will put  his name and pertinent info. He will have to have an ID but I am sure he already had a new mil id made or will get one on Monday. I think you can also give them a passcode so they can pick up the money. I have only used western union one many years ago. If there is one on the base it will be in the customer service area @ the nex. That is down near the uniform shop in the NEX.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Can anyone tell me if the P O Boxes the sailors can rent are on Naval Base Guam...or are they out in the city?

  • luvinmatt

Joanie, they have them on base and off. The one on base might be full though. He would just have to go to the PO and ask.
  • Pat

Mona...Fair Winds and Following Seas...I believe that is the correct statement...and Thank You for your kind blessings.
  • LivNLrn

Mona, I had the pleasure of introducing your son and DIL to fellow Guam Mom Irene in my home (Irene came out here to visit her own daughter- who is my neighbor). So it is a very small world. Any of us could meet in another group, lol! Wishing you all the very best!!!
  • Irene McClure

Hey Guam Moms!!! Well My husband and I are back from Guam. We had a great time over there. It's a laid back kind of place.warm with a ocean breeze. I met LivNLrn while I was there. I also met some other Navy kids. While we were there, our daughter and SIL had our first grandbaby. That was alot of fun. You know how living use to be at a calm even pace. Well that is how it is over there. They don't have that hurry-get going life style like we have. It was Awesome. I do have some pictures on my page.

Great day to be a "Proud NAVY Mom" !!  Way to go Navy Seals!

  • Irene McClure

Happy Mothers Day to my Guam Moms!! I hope you have a nice and relaxing day.
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

My son sent me roses for Mother's Day!  Really overwhelmed me!

  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

    Happy Mother's Day Everyone!!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

My son sent me a beautiful Rose Corsage for church....Even in Guam, they think about us!!
  • luvinmatt

We have iconnect it is cheap and the service is good. We jabe an add on for unlimited.calling to the us for 10 bucks a month. Most other services chadge .10 a minute.to call stateside. Who did he use. We also have a second set of fun phones that my husband wanted. So we end up paying a bunch fpr those.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Ok ladies...need some advice.....I have 2 care packages (with a camera and one with a computer) that have gone astray that were mailed on 3-7-2011 to Guam....USPS says they don't know where it is...or if it's even left the US...The Intl Claims Dept of USPS says they don't know anything about it and keep giving my info to my local post office, who says they can't handle international claims. The military postal service says my online inquiry is finished and all is ok....I think NOT..packages are still lost.  Anyone else had to file a claim for lost merchandise.  Our Fleet and Family Support in Gulfport says packages to Guam should only take 2-3 weeks at most...They are surprised they have not arrived yet....Need some advice please?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Kalena: They were sent in Priority mail boxes from the USPS and I've already sent that info to him and the post office workers in Guam can't locate the packages either.
  • luvinmatt

Did you send it with delivery confirmation? On the customs form did you indicate it was a computer and a camera? If you did the packages are more than likely gone and I hope you have insurance. Did you send them to an FPO address or a street address. Boat mail can take longer sometime. Tell your PO Guam is NOT considered international. I hate when they start that BS.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Same here Donna.....everyone seems to think this is "someone else's" job....

  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

We have been lucky sending things priority mail....knock on wood.  Every package I have sent has only taken about a week.  I have not sent an major/expensive items though.  Good luck to everyone.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Tyler finally received all his care packages, including his computer, no camera in any of the packages...guess someone in Customs needed that....packages arrived in Guam 10 1/2 weeks after mailing priority mail....guess I won't be sending any more care packages...will just deposit $$$ for him to buy snacks....
  • NJNavy (IC,CS)

    Hi All

New to this group sailor leaving in about 20 days destination Guam. Love to have some helpful information to guide me.

    Diane

  • Tramama

I haven't had any trouble with the packages I send - they take about a week and seem to arrive intact.  I always lowball the value on the customs form so its not too tempting.  I hope I haven't jinxed myself since I just sent a package yesterday.

  • luvinmatt

I would suggest to your son to

    A. Get a PO Box on base

    B. ship the check to a friends house that lives in a house with a street and he can trust.

  • luvinmatt

oops that should say with a street address***
  • rsv227-Devin's Mom

Happy Memorial Day w/e everyone!!  Many thanks & prayers to all of our troops everywhere. Proud to be a Navy Mom!!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

After going back to the post office to get some Prority Flat Rate Boxes to mail to a PO Box in Guam, the post office is now saying they overcharged me on the last 3 boxes that I sent to the FPO address......They say I should have only paid $10.95 per box for the three I shipped...They charged me $122 for all 3  boxes....Of course, they are not going to refund any of that...I just wish they would get their act together and keep it one way....Tyler now has a P O Box in Guam...so I'm mailing out some boots and jeans....we'll see if they get there in less than 10 weeks....Also got to go file a claim for that missing camera....sorry...just needed to vent....hope everyone has a great weekend!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

I've been back to the post office today....They said they don't refund overcharges on prior shipments.....Now I'm trying to file a claim for the lost camera....They can't make up their minds if it's domestic or international....been waiting for a phone call from them all day....I mailed 2 more packages (Cowboy Boots and Jeans)  to Tyler's PO Box today...Hopefully they will get there fairly soon...We shall see!!!
  • luvinmatt

Guam is domestic. You really need to call the coporate office. You are being way to nice.
  • Pat

My son said that the PO, due to size limitations, does not hold on to pkgs very long before they send them back to sender.
  • NJNavy (IC,CS)

    Hi,

Sailor just left for Guam on the 21st. Gladly take any advise.

    Diane

  • luvinmatt

If they authorize him to ship a car it willl be in his orders. It is free if his orders authorize it. Whoever drops the car off will Nbed 7 copies of his orders and a statement from the bank saying the car can leave the country if it is financed. You might also need a poa since the servicemember is not there. I think it is absolutely necessary to have a car in Guam but I am a wife and live off base. if he plans to ever move out of the barracks he would need a car. I am sure he could manage to bum rides if he stays on base.
  • NJNavy (IC,CS)

    Thanks Becky ,

Thanks for responding just one more question regular mail how long does it take,we have mail that have been delivered to our home and would like to forward it to Guam.

    Diane

  • NJNavy (IC,CS)

    Hi Marti,

    Thanks for the postal information.

    Diane

  • luvinmatt

Depends on where you are sending the mail to. We live in a house off base and I have gotten mail as fast as 3-4 days regular first class stuff. Packages take about a week. Now if you are sending stuff to the ship it takes linger 10+ days because it is routed through Ny no matter where it comes from then makes its way to the ship.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

FYI:  I got a reimbursement from the post office today for the postage overcharges  on flat rate boxes to Guam and the lost camera...guess the squeaky wheel does get oiled!!! Yay!!! Now he can buy a new camera...
  • jmazzsmom

hi , new to this group, my son leaves later this week for Guam.. scared, excited, all the emotions.. but N4M is a awesome group.. got me thru boot camp and A school.. so looking forward to many more new friends....machinest mate, USS Frank Cable...is my main interest.. gotta run to work for today..
  • LivNLrn

Welcome, new moms! jmazzsmom- nothing to fear! it is wonderful here! beautiful, plenty to do. the only annoyances have to do with communication (internet, phone), and initial transportation til you are familiar with your options and settled. my husband goes to and from work on a scooter and i drive a guam bomb to my off base job.
  • jmazzsmom

hi all , thanks for warm welcome.. yes i have already heard from Joe about communications are not always up and running.. he did get a phone call to us Sat.night 4:30/5:30 our time Guam time 8 am Sunday morning..  was hoping for more internet communication but we'll take what we can get... waiting for his address.. of all things he couldnt fit in his sea bag  etc.. was peacoat / linger and another jacket which i have to send to him....he did say Guam is beautiful... after my cleaning today i'll have to research more...
  • Lois in OK

    Hi  Guam moms,

My son has been in Guam awhile now but I am curious do any of you have a sailor there attached to the USS Frank Cable?  I have been trying to get ahold of my son and he is not returning calls or messages on facebook. Do any of you know if maybe they are out at sea floating somewhere. He did mention about a month ago that he was going to be in Virginia and possibly leaving for Afghanastan does anyone know how I can find out.

Thank you all for any information,  Lois

  • luvinmatt

The cable is out to sea but currently in port. They do have internet access. Have you tried emailing his ship email? Do you get emails from the ombudsman?
  • NJNavy (IC,CS)

    hi,

question out to sea but currently in port confused. also trying to reach my sailor no reponse.

    diane

  • luvinmatt

out to sea means away from home port.  currently in port means they are pulled into a port but not the home port. hope that helps. Unless he calls the only real way to reach him is through email.
  • NJNavy (IC,CS)

     luvimatt,

laughing this is all so new to me. yes you helped .

  • luvinmatt

honestly, you can get pretty much anything you will need or want on Guam.  We have been here a year and have not needed anything we could not find on island.
