My son is graduating today from his "A" school but will have for more days of damage control before going to Norfolk.  Does anyone know if they post pictures from the A school graduation on any of the navy websites? Thanks, Melinda for Whitewright,Texas

  • Melinda DC Norfolk, VA

My son answered my question in case anyone is curious.  Since he finished becc training he won't get a diploma until he finishes his 5 days of DC training, then he will go to Norfolk.  I miss him so much and was hoping he might be able to visit us before heading to VA, but I guess we will just have to wait.

Love all the local moms, ya'll have been at this awhile! My son will have PIR 4/25....I so hope he has hurt his knee.

CindyW I know where Egan is we have roped there lots of times either at Cowboy Church or Mike Powells

Donna MayPearl we really are neighbors I live on the other side towards Rio

SummerRainbow we are very close too

My son is a a big team roper and his drill sargent is also. Looks like there are more folks from Texas there than I thought...

  • CindyW

If you know where the Cowboy Church is, then you are less than a mile from my house. We live on the same road. We used to be in the riding club at the church. Ran all the playday and barrel races. Watched the team roping quite a few times but our horses were trained for sorting and play days. I am so happy that there are so many mom here within 20 miles of each other
  • Donna

Diana, enjoy your time with your son! I did not think I could quit hugging mine. It was very emotional and wonderful.
  • Donna

CindyW, my husband does many desensitization horse clinics at cowboy churches all over Texas. He used to often rope in Rendon. Needless to say, my sailor is a huge cowboy himself!
  • CindyW

Donna it is such a small world. Who would have ever thought that something as large as the Navy could bring so many moms together within a short distance? It's just crazy. We sold all our horses after our sailor left. We became empty nesters and travel a lot and always needed somebody to come feed and water. It was a bittersweet moment but was for the best
  • Trey's Mom

We have a FB page for Navy Moms of East Texas. Most of us are from the Kilgore-Longview-Marshall area. If you are anywhere close we would love to have you.
  • NavyMomCindy

Donna my son roped with several guys from the Pearl...the Crow gentleman, Barts dad, Clint Albers and the Bostons...

We don't have a horse on the place now either we sold the large horse trailer and all I sure do miss it. But I raise and show toy and mini aussies and take care of my mom so we are very busy!

My brother just left for boot yesterday.  He joined from San Angelo, TX.  We live in Midland, TX and my parents live in Copperas Cove, TX.

Kellygray79, Tx sisters are just as welcome here as moms are. This is a great group that will help your mom keep her sanity while your brother is in BC. Most any question that either of you have can be answered by this group. Welcome aboard!

Hello to all you Texas Gulf Coast Moms:  We finally received our phone call from our S/R recruit yesterday and tears were all flowing!  It was so good to hear from him and so emotional!  He is doing great - just very homesick.  His first three weeks will be ending Tuesday, so he must be deep in learning how to be a sailor.  The entire family is sending letters to keep him close.  We will all be in Great Lakes on June 20th to watch them all graduate.  How very proud we are of all of our young men and women who decided to serve their country and start the first steps in life.

Hope to meet some of you there.  Check out Sarge's "Meet and Greet" on Thursday, June 19th.

  • Jimmy Sue

We are from Arlington.  My son has been to MEPS for initial medical processing.  He passed everything but they want him to go back for psych eval.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this or an idea why he would be asked to do this?  He has never had any psychological problems. They told him it was nothing to be concerned about.

  • Bandit1998

Hi Jimmy Sue:  So glad you are in our group.  Us Texas Folks have to stick together!  I wouldn't worry too much about the psych eval....The Navy is The Navy and even though we don't understand why they do certain things, they know why..LOL!  I am sure you son is fine, probably just extremely homesick.  My grandson was so emotional when he got to call home, I think everyone in the house was bawling!  It will get better.  Some of these young men and women have never been away from home except for maybe a week-end of overnight and all this new stuff they are learning can be overwhelming.  Just keep up the letter writing and before you know it...PIR will be here and hopefully you will be able to watch him graduate.  Ours will be June 20th and you can believe me that we already have our plane reservations, hotel and rental car reserved.

  • harpist mom

Congratulations! Wishing your sailors much success!

  • Jimmy Sue

    J's/S'smom,

Thank you for your response.  My son is actually wanting to go into the SEAL program.  Maybe that is the reason for the psych eval because anyone wanting to do that has to be crazy right?

  • mamafozzy

Hi everyone!  We are from Plano.  My son is in boot camp and is Division 195.  He will be going to Pensacola for A school.  He's IT/ATF.  Very excited about graduation on June 6th!!

  • narob01

JimmySue, My son is EOD and crazy....you just may be right.

  • Jimmy Sue

    Narob01&J's/S'smom,

Like they haven't given us enough gray hairs and sleepless nights.  But I agree, actually anyone who listens to the call to serve their country is a hero in the making.  Doesn't matter what job they end up doing, they make sacrifices to do it and I am a proud military mom with one son at basic military training for Air Force and one waiting for a ship date for the Navy.

  • harpist mom

You are welcome to attend! Please join us. The ladies in the group can give you encouragement and support as your son begins the "Navy" journey.

  • Bandit1998

To all you ladies living in Carrollton, TX.  What a treasure you have in little Rhema Marvanne of Carrollton.  I just came across this video of her singing Amazing Grace.

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Bandit1998, 1 hv never been able to attend as most dinners are on the east side of town, but I am sure you can start attending now even though your SR hss not gone thru Battle stations. Good luck. BC goes by fast. Maria
  • Bandit1998

Hi Maria:  I would love to attend one of the dinners in the Dallas area, but unfortunately, I live on the Gulf Coast.  Guess I'll have to start a dinner down here in my area.  I am really looking forward to attending PIR on 6/20/14.  My oldest grandson went thru Basic in Great Lakes and I attended his graduation in about 2005, so am familiar with how impressive the ceremony is.  I still can't wait.

  • mamafozzy

Thanks harpist mom - I'll check my calendar.  I'd love to come and meet everyone. =)

  • SummerRainbow

Hi Texas ladies, and DFW moms! Thanks for the invite to dinner.  I am attending PIR this week 05/16! Finally glad I will just be able to communicate with my son on a more "normal" basis again!

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Bandit1998. Oops meant to address note to mama fizzy.good luck to you

Hi I am the Proud mom of 3 Sons which one of them is a US Navy Sailor grown right here from Texas! We live on the gulf coast in a little town called Palacios.
  • Guacamole

Howdy from The Woodlands, TX!  I am a 4th generation Texan!

My son is in Corpus doing Aviation training.

  • Bandit1998

    Howdy and Welcome, Guacamole: ;<}

(Had to smile at your "handle".  Where else but Texas?)  Wow!  Your son lucked out being stationed so close to home.  Corpus is not that far away.  My other grandson lives there now and LOVES the beach.  He served aboard a Sub when he was in the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii.  One of my life-long dreams was to visit Hawaii and we (his parents and I) finally got to visit with him when he was there.  I am also a 4th generation Texan and very proud of it.  I live in Palacios which is in Matagorda County on Matagorda Bay.  About half way between Houston and Corpus. Glad to have you aboard!

  • Bandit1998

Change that 4th generation to 5th generation Texan.  I do genealogy and you would think I could keep my ancestors straight!

  • deb

Hi there! I am a transplanted Texan, hailing originally from OH. My son left from OH for BC in April. I live in Sweetwater, TX. Anybody close to me attending PIR 6/6/14? Let me know. I plan to drive to GL.
