My son will also be going to Pensacola for A school.  Did your daughter leave on saturday right after graduation?  we are trying to schedule our flight and everything we are reading looks like we will only see him on Friday

Hi DAR12.

She did leave Saturday early morning but because it was July 4the weekend, her PIR was on Thursday so we had some of Thursday (she had watch for a couple of those hours) and all day Friday.  We then met her at the airport in the wee hours of Saturday morning to give her a phone.

Before your son goes to Pensacola, I want to tell you about her experience there the first couple of days.  I think the information my help him.

I would love to hear about your daughters first days at A school to pass on to him

where do you meet them at the airport to give them their phones?  can they use their phones while they are with you or not until they leave GL?

I just sent you a friend request.

My daughter didn't know when she was leaving Great Lakes until the day before PIR but I know that some knew a few days before that.

We met her at the USO in the airport. They can use their phones when they are with you off base, but cannot take them onto the Great Lakes base.

DAR12You don't go through security to get to the USO.  She got her flight information the day before graduation but we didn't know that information until we saw her right after graduation.

Hi Mark's Mom :0) My son left July 2nd and his graduation date(PIR) is August 29th.  You won't hear from your son for a couple of weeks but that is a good thing.  He will be adjusting and making new friends. The time will go by fast and before you know it he will call you on a Sunday. Hang in there!!!

My son flew out of Midway to Pensacola on Sunday at 6:30 a.m. back in March 2012. We met him at the airport at midnight and gave him his electronics and some clothes. We were able to get a pass to go through security and wait with him until he boarded. An ID is required to get a security pass.

Mark's mom, You have such a great attitude and are doing all the right things. The letters are critical during the Boot Camp period. The sailors really look forward to receiving them. Keep up the good work! God Bless!

I'm south of Fort Worth, my Ft Worth Mom's seem to be Northeast.  Anyone want to meet downtown or on Magnolia?  I will come to you guys, but I don't know what's over in your direction anymore.  Long time since I hung out at the mall. LOL

I have a friend that is the assistant manager of a place on Magnolia (the Hospital District) Just south of I-30 off Rosedale.  It is the happening part of town right now.  If that is good for everyone, the first bottle is on me. 

tsufish - I work near the hospital district, I35W & Seminary.  Name the date and I'll drag myself and my hubby there.  :)

This Saturday, August 16 at 4 at Kent & Co on Magnolia.  Please let me know if you are coming so I can have them reserve us a spot.  Can't wait to meet some of you brave women and have you teach me the secret of not crying every day.

KimberlyDi would love to have you come - my son is going to be a Nuke too!  I did have someone PM they were coming!  That makes three of us so far.

I never go there - except some Mondays, an occasional Wednesday, most Fridays, most Saturdays, and have been known to do some wine games on Sundays.  Ask for Teill when you are there and see if her "aunt" is in. 

And please stop talking about cheer (LOL), so glad my days as a all-star mom are over.  I was never a good cheer mom - football mom I had down! 

OMG -  Cheer competitions...  I hope I never have to live through another one of those!  My step-daughter was in competition cheer.

Navyhubby FF - Congratulations!  The hardest part is over!

Navyhubby we will have some bubbles to celebrate for you. 

KimberlyDi  - I am with you!  I hated cheer comps and all the drama that went with them.  Nothing like paying for your child to go to Hollywood for a big comp and the girl at the top of the pyramid deciding to not go up.  Those days are gone!  Made my child strong physically and mentally, but made me want to kill people.

Eight years of dance comps and five years of cheer comps.  So glad my youngest is done with dance and hates cheer!  I still owe from the senior year because of a error on the account!  Closet full of uniforms and a room full of ribbon, medals, and trophies.  Child doesn't want them, I don't want them but I paid way too much to throw them out. 

Two things cheer will prepare your child for in the Navy:  physical activity (they know how to do their situps) and they know how to stand at attention when being yelled at. 

Drove right by Kent & Co off Magnolia during my lunch break! Now I know where it is and what it looks like.  I wanted lunch at Yucatan Taco Stand (My Fav!) but the line was too long today.

Mark's Mom-leaving him a customized message on your phone is brilliant!  I hope you don't miss his call though.

Lynn - I checked the website out and they offer Expresso & "Mocktails" with no alcohol also.  I have quite a drive back to Springtown so I won't be imbibing either.
