At hotel tonight getting ready to ship out our SR tomorrow. He is so calm. I am feeling better however, as I see him talking with the other young future sailors that are here tonight too. Still going to be hard to go home tomorrow without him.
My son shipped out on aug 5th. Received his I am here call at midnight very short call but so good to hear his voice. Yesterday I received his box and the form letter came in the mail with his graduation date and mailing address. Grad date is oct 3. We live in Fulshear / Katy area west of Houston
Hi DAR12! How are you doing?
I'm in Sugar Land. My daughter's PIR was7/3. She is now in Pensacola for A school and really likes it there. Do you know where your son will be after Great Lakes?
My son will also be going to Pensacola for A school. Did your daughter leave on saturday right after graduation? we are trying to schedule our flight and everything we are reading looks like we will only see him on Friday
She did leave Saturday early morning but because it was July 4the weekend, her PIR was on Thursday so we had some of Thursday (she had watch for a couple of those hours) and all day Friday. We then met her at the airport in the wee hours of Saturday morning to give her a phone.
Before your son goes to Pensacola, I want to tell you about her experience there the first couple of days. I think the information my help him.
DAR12You don't go through security to get to the USO. She got her flight information the day before graduation but we didn't know that information until we saw her right after graduation.
My son left today and it has been one emotional day. He is now at DFW with a two hour rain delay due to bad weather in Chicago. He had no sleep last night. He said he couldn't. This is also his first plane ride (2x). I told him his bravery and how he is handling things amazes me and if he just stays focused, he will do just fine. He will arrive in Chicago around 10. Will the I'm here call come tonight? I'm sitting on my phone.
Hi Mark's Mom :0) My son left July 2nd and his graduation date(PIR) is August 29th. You won't hear from your son for a couple of weeks but that is a good thing. He will be adjusting and making new friends. The time will go by fast and before you know it he will call you on a Sunday. Hang in there!!!
DAR12 - she flew out of O'Hare but some flew out of Midway.
Mark's mom - we got a call very late the night she got there. It was a very short call... probably just a minute or less just to tell us that she got there safely.
My son flew out of Midway to Pensacola on Sunday at 6:30 a.m. back in March 2012. We met him at the airport at midnight and gave him his electronics and some clothes. We were able to get a pass to go through security and wait with him until he boarded. An ID is required to get a security pass.
Got the "i'm Here" call @ 1:07 am this morning. Quick, scripted call. Now, awaiting the "box". Miss him like crazy, but very proud, and am replacing the sadness with joy today, because he is going to learn so much, and make new friends. This is a great thing! Also time to get busy writing letters while waiting for his address. The hard part was yesterday, letting go. I pray that he and all of the new SR's just like him, will make the most of the opportunities they have been given, and I pray that the new Navy moms, just like me, will lift up their sons or daughters and encourage them. The last thing I told him after I love you, of course, was do not worry about us, just stay focused, don't worry about us, and take care of business. That made him smile!
Mark's mom, You have such a great attitude and are doing all the right things. The letters are critical during the Boot Camp period. The sailors really look forward to receiving them. Keep up the good work! God Bless!
I'm south of Fort Worth, my Ft Worth Mom's seem to be Northeast. Anyone want to meet downtown or on Magnolia? I will come to you guys, but I don't know what's over in your direction anymore. Long time since I hung out at the mall. LOL
I have a friend that is the assistant manager of a place on Magnolia (the Hospital District) Just south of I-30 off Rosedale. It is the happening part of town right now. If that is good for everyone, the first bottle is on me.
Hey y'all!! I just found this Texas page. My son is leaving for bc on the 19th from San Antonio. We are from the Austin area. Any other central texas mom out there?
Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself and see if there are any other Moms in the Houston area here. My son ships out Sept 9 for Great Lakes. He has been in DEP program since the beginning of the year and is so ready to go at this point.
This Saturday, August 16 at 4 at Kent & Co on Magnolia. Please let me know if you are coming so I can have them reserve us a spot. Can't wait to meet some of you brave women and have you teach me the secret of not crying every day.
I never go there - except some Mondays, an occasional Wednesday, most Fridays, most Saturdays, and have been known to do some wine games on Sundays. Ask for Teill when you are there and see if her "aunt" is in.
And please stop talking about cheer (LOL), so glad my days as a all-star mom are over. I was never a good cheer mom - football mom I had down!
Navyhubby we will have some bubbles to celebrate for you.
KimberlyDi - I am with you! I hated cheer comps and all the drama that went with them. Nothing like paying for your child to go to Hollywood for a big comp and the girl at the top of the pyramid deciding to not go up. Those days are gone! Made my child strong physically and mentally, but made me want to kill people.
Eight years of dance comps and five years of cheer comps. So glad my youngest is done with dance and hates cheer! I still owe from the senior year because of a error on the account! Closet full of uniforms and a room full of ribbon, medals, and trophies. Child doesn't want them, I don't want them but I paid way too much to throw them out.
Two things cheer will prepare your child for in the Navy: physical activity (they know how to do their situps) and they know how to stand at attention when being yelled at.
Drove right by Kent & Co off Magnolia during my lunch break! Now I know where it is and what it looks like. I wanted lunch at Yucatan Taco Stand (My Fav!) but the line was too long today.
Day 2 since my son left for BC. Doing surprisingly well. I am all the time wondering what he is doing at the moment. I read the Navy BC day by day, so I can get an idea. Have started writing letters, so when I get his address, I will have a stockpile and can start sending one a day. Yesterday, I put a customized greeting just for him on my phone, just in case I miss his call, which if I did miss it, it would kill me, but he will get words of encouragement from me. This is tough ya'll, but we Navy moms are so proud of our sons and daughters!!!
Just sharing that the group, Letter-writing moms has helped me with ideas as what to write my son in RTC. It has things I would have never thought of and has a lot of info. Most of you experienced Navy moms have probably already checked it out though.
Lynn - I checked the website out and they offer Expresso & "Mocktails" with no alcohol also. I have quite a drive back to Springtown so I won't be imbibing either.

I would love to hear about your daughters first days at A school to pass on to him

You're welcome DAR12.
I just sent you a friend request.
My daughter didn't know when she was leaving Great Lakes until the day before PIR but I know that some knew a few days before that.
We met her at the USO in the airport. They can use their phones when they are with you off base, but cannot take them onto the Great Lakes base.
