sassas - I think a lot of it has to do with funding. We are in an election year, and budgets have probably been used up. My son had to either go early or risk being postponed indefinitely. I don't envy your son having to wait - that is a personal pet peeve of mine. There is so much that is frustrating about the military. This is just the beginning. But I can say that joining the Navy was the best thing that ever happened to my son. It really shaped his character in incredible ways.
I live in Missouri City(suburb of Houston)and we are super excited for son is coming home next week for the 1st time!! He just finished A school and looking forward to enjoying these 2 weeks together before his deployment. I am definitely interested in learning as much as I can about the next phase for us as a family. Any thoughts, help and/or advice is greatly appreciated!! Blessings to you all ;)
Hi stickmansmom!
I live in Sugar Land - we should meet!
My daughter has only been in the Navy for a couple of years so I don't know how much help I will be to you...
We are definitely neighbors and I would love to meet sometime. Your years of experience and to know another Mom in the area is a blessing indeed. Please keep in touch and we can meet for lunch sometime...
Hi Suzan and Stickmansmom, I'm in Missouri City. We should meet at Starbucks on Austin Parkway and Hwy 6 across from H E B to share stories. My Sailor just graduated C School and is living in San Diego and LOVES it. We're heading there for Thanksgiving. Let's try to find a convenient time for all. 5 pm onward works best for me or lunch time.
Hello! My daughter just got to Boot camp last week, so she's just beginning her journey. We are in the DFW area. Anyone else out there in this group from the DFW area?
Jojo2167 - I'm in the DFW area. My soon finished his 2 years of nuke classes and has been far far away on remote location for almost a year now. Hang in there! The best thing about Boot Camp is you never know when they'll get a chance to call you!
@Bchgrl68 - I'm in The Woodlands, too. My son graduated bootcamp in April and graduates "A" school the 30th of this month. He'll gets to take some leave to come home for a bit. Very exciting! Best of luck to your daughter...and to you, as well!
Hi guys, I live in Pearland and my Sailor has been in almost 2 years. I would love to get together. I grew up in Stafford and my brothers still live there.
Thanks @stickmansmom! I really am clueless about how all of this works, so I'm winging it. I'm super excited. He's gonna leave a boy and come back a man.
You are so welcome! I am definitely not as experienced as some of these fabulous Moms, but I am more than happy to give any advice that I can. I have learned so much just by being on NavyforMoms. I would have been lost without them! You are definitely in the right place, and take advantage of of all the info from the Boot Camp group. Lemonelephant and several other Moms/Dads there are fantastic when it comes to all the details you should knoe. Blessings on your Son and family. Your pride is just going to grow and grow for him :)
Hi Jojo2167 I am in the DFW area. My daughter has been in for a year. She just came home for an emergency visit for a funeral. Although it was a sad occasion I was thrilled to have her home for a few days, even got a chance to celebrate her 19th Birthday with her. Hang in there bootcamp will be finished before you know it.
Woo hoo! My Sailor-to-be passed her final test and is on schedule to graduate 8/26. She is in choir, so I snuck a peek at last week's PIR to see her face.
Today, she got 5 Facebook minutes and posted generally about her duty station. Guess I know where next summer's vacation will be.
Thanks for all the great input. I would appreciate staying in group. They missed last Christmas, last 2 birthdays and 2 Thanksgiving. My Sailor is coming home for Christmas.! Therefore I'm making tamales and pasty in celebration of their arrival.
Hi all N4Moms, it's been a while since I've been on the page and have missed seeing such wonderful comments from all the families! I'm in the Sugar Land area and would love to reconnect with our local moms and families. We had a great dinner last year and would love to catch up with everyone. Hope to hear from you.
My daughter is heading to A School after stand down, we have her home for now. I'm in The Woodlands, I usually hang out on Facebook, but saw your past in my emails and wanted to say hi!
Hello everyone -My daughter ranked up to PO3rd class super excited for her. We feel pretty lucky her first command on Beach Master Unit been stationed in Cali for the past year. They were going to deploy in July but it was cancelled last minute. Only good thing out of that is she came home because she thought she was leaving. So I feel lucky for now but I know that will change once their unit is up to ship out. Which I hear will be off to Korea so until then my nerves are calm. Do wish there was a North Houston area moms group to meet with if anyone knows of any please let me know. Hope all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Hello and Good Monday Morning! My son is currently home for Christmas but will return to Great Lakes after stand down to hopefully start A School. He's been on hold since his PIR 9/2. We hail all the way from La Porte!
If you're anywhere close to the lower Rio Grande Valley, Navy moms and friends are having a Molly's Adopt a Sailor packing party on Sunday at 3:00. We're using the Palm Shadows rec hall in Donna to organize and pack boxes for the USS Mahan.
Congratulations.... Its amazing to see the transformation they go through. Hang in there....its' so worth it.
My son is coming up on his one year anniversary. He's stationed in San Diego and assigned to a squadron. He is loving it and wants to make a career out of it.
I'm in Missouri City..... Anytime you want to chat, let me know.
Congrats again, graduation is one of the most memorable experiences you want to see. Also go to Sarge's meet and greet the night before....
My son started class this week. He was on hold for a month. Graduated 1/6. His A school graduation will probably be late August. Then hopefully C school. We are in the dfw area. Would be happy to help with care packages or projects a little closer this way.....
My son is a Gunners Mate who just went through PIR last week. I agree.....what a change we saw in him! He is on hold at GL "A" school. Hopefully he won't have to wait too long to class up. He's heard stories about having to wait a year before classing up! He's ready to get to the next stage. We live in the lower Rio Grande Valley.
