TexasMom77 - I'm about to move to Crowley right at the Burleson/Crowley border. I can't wait to shop at the HEB! Congrats on your daugther joining the Navy and good luck on the adventure ahead of you both. I'm amazed at the places my son has gone, even the ones he can't tell me about. :)
USS Mom Crew - Welcome! Even though boot camp was 3.5 years ago, I still remember hugging my son goodbye right before he left. It was very difficult for me. But we made it through. You'll find a wealth of information at this web site. The support is fantastic.
Texasmom77 and Tx Mom of Far Away Nuke - I live in south Ft Worth - almost Crowley. We should get together sometime. My son is also a Nuke and is almost half way through his 3 years.
tsufish - Sounds great! I'll be moving the week starting 07/25/17 (Tuesday) but will have free time afterwards. Fresco's in Burleson is a personal favorite of mine to dine at or to sip a margarita. :)
Good morning all. I am from the Lubbock area. My son will have his PIR July 21, 2017 and I can hardly wait. Once done he will head back home the the great state of Texas for "A" school in San Antonio.
Morning all! I am in Lewisville / Flower Mound area (DFW) and my son is waiting to ship our for BT. Orginally he was to report on Jan 4, 2018 but they have moved him up. He leaves in August (haven't got the date yet) and we are now in "haul it" mode to get him ready. He is going Nuke / Subs and can't wait. He is excited and now, nervous. I see we have quite a few Nuke kids from DFW! Must be something in the water here. LOL
Hello WifeNMudder. I too am in Lewisville/Flower Mound area. Actually Highland Village. My son is an NFO in Norfolk. He did go to Marcus with a Nuke though..
We are from the Carrollton area. My son is at A school...and just got his orders....Think waterfalls...sunsets...and 20 hr plane ride. He's so excited...and I am so proud. Can't wait to see him on his leave before deployment!

I wish it was Pearl Harbor. Not sure if I'm allowed to say where with all the rules. He waiting for paper orders...but he does have verbal. He's IT. Graduating A and C school soon. This new program is concurrent.
I had a cousin stationed in Pearl Harbor though....beautiful.
Hi all, I'm Nonie and I'm new to this group. My daughter went to bootcamp Monday. I'm excited for her. I've been reading different info on Navy and PIR and already booked hotels for 2 weekends (all refundable). I never got the I'm here call, but did get a text. Her boyfriend is getting the calls, box and letter and he will let me know. Wish they could send 2.
Hi Nonie, my son graduated on the 7th of this month and I'm near the Rosenberg area. I got the I'm here call and the letter, but after that the girlfriend got the calls and letters. But she kept me up to date and I wrote him letters every day. Graduation was awesome. Be sure to make plans to go to Sarge's meet and greet the night before graduation.
Hey JediGrey, my son Grayson said that he knows the Nuke kid from Marcus. We are still waiting on his Dep date. All we know is that it will be in August. There was a mad rush to get him to move up his date and then three weeks of waiting. Meanwhile he's not sure when to give his notice to his employer. Oh well, it will be when it is, I guess.
Hi Sam's mom. Glad he is through with bootcamp. We are at the end of week 1. When did you get his mailing address? From the box or form letter? I'm eager to send cards.
Htownmama, he left on Mother's Day and I got the box on Wednesday then got the letter on Friday. The box and letter can take up to 10 days from what I've heard. I would wait for the letter and use that address. My box came came FEDEX and I was not home, but the driver knew what it was so he came back later that day to deliver to me! He was awesome!
Hi y'all. I'm Shawna from Littlefield. I know....you've never heard of it. We are 45 miles NW of Lubbock. Small town of about 6000 people. My son left last Thursday for boot. New to all this but it's helping more than anything
New mom here. My son leave on 9/13 and I am over here as a nervous wreck. Still learning how this works. I know he goes to the recruiter on the 13th and that is all.
Lah all will be fine. He is starting a wonderful new adventure and will truly become a grown up. My son went the Monday after Mother's Day and graduated July 7th if that helps with figuring out his graduation date. Just stay busy and be proud of him and his journey.
Well, we've entered the last week at home. My future sailor leaves on the 29th. We finished packing up his room yesterday. Grandparents are coming in from Louisiana to spend some time with him later this week. Proud, anxious and emotional right now.
Enjoy your time together. You are about to begin your experience as a Navy mom. Make sure you go to graduation it will be one of the proudest moments of your life. The time they are at bootcamp are rough, I cried like a baby the day he left. You will enjoy your experience as a Navy mom as you watch your sailor grow, mature and make you so very proud !!!!
WifeNMudder - The Navy brought about amazing changes in my son. He was always a good kid but had a problem with procrastination, time management, etc. Not any longer! He returned as a responsible young man. They are doing something right up there. :) You'll find going forward that there's nothing more valuable than time spent with your Navy Son or Daughter. I cherish every moment on the phone and the even more rare actual visit. Good luck!
I sent my son a letter almost every day. I included notes of what was happening at home along with paper-printed pictures of family pets and also cartoons that I found funny. He said those letters really kept him going during boot camp.
Tx Mom of Far Away Nuke and Mary.... Thanks so much! Tuesday was his Swearing In and I can already see a difference in him. While I knew he was nervous (I'm his Mom, so of course I knew!) he was also laser focused, excited and ready. He said that he would prefer if we not wait for the bus and since I knew that this would be particularly hard for me, I agreed and we left. I cried all the way home. But then we received a call from my sister in Houston. Her house had began flooding and her car had a flat so she could not get out. So grabbed some clothes and towels and other supplies and hauled it down I-45. Over the next 14 hours we struggled, but managed, to find an open road to get to Katy, loaded her and her dogs up and then struggled, but overcame, to find open roads back to Dallas. My mind and emotions were so occupied that when my son called at 12:55am I was almost surprised. I had almost forgotten about THE CALL. We were still on the road so I put him on speaker and he was quite the little robot. It was kind of funny actually.
I’m in Katy,Texas about 2 hours from San Antonio. We’ve been here about 13 years now. My son loves to sing and draws very well. That’s his art work right there. He is amazing and I miss him so much. He never gave me any problems while growing up. He wasn’t the perfect kid but he was and still is my best son. I’m sure you guys have great kids also. I know you have to because this is a sacrifice of there freedom they have chosen to serve. What better way for them to live their lives. To know that they chose to lay down their lives for another. I’m proud and honored not just for my son but for all the sons and daughters that will serve alongside of him. This is a brotherhood a sisterhood that will last for ever. Have a blessed Sunday to all my Texans.
Our time for our sailors is approaching soon. This is the beginning of his 4th week. I’m not sure what they are doing this week but I know swimming is coming up and lessons on how to handle a gun is also coming up. My son with a gun is going to be hard to believe. He’s never handled one before so I hope this part is not too overwhelming for him. He’s an artist reserved gentle in spirit and at the some time head strong and determined to get any and every task done set before him. How about your goys have they handled guns before and what about swimming? Let me know.
Missingyou - Keep your cell phone on you at all times! Even at the doctor's office, they sometimes keep a cell phone on hand to let the sailors call home. And you've got kids coming from all parts of the US so you know they have all kinds of krud going around in the beginning.
I'm happy that all is well for your sailor! I'm in Crowley, Texas. :)
Informed delivery is an app that lets you know what mail is coming to your home. It is great to use if your expecting a letter or a package and you want to know if it’s been shipped or when you will get it. I’m so excited im getting another letter from Freddie either today or tomorrow. God is good.
I hope everyone had a good day today didn’t hear too much from my son got a letter a few days ago hoping to hear from him soon again I know everyone is waiting for graduation next month so just wanted to say hi have a great day and a good night
Good morning Texas moms how are you ? This is my sons 4th week in and all is good. I’ve gotten one letter from him but no calls yet. As the days go by my anxiousness and nervousness goes away . I know that ifmy son is determined to do somethings he will do it. He has a caring and concerning heart and a love to see people treated right. So no worries today. It’s a beautiful day I’m off and I’m going to enjoy it. Everyone have a great blessed day. It’s great to be a Texan
I finally got my a letter from my son it was great. He passed hie swimming test the first round and now he’s shooting guns he likes it. He’s passing everything and will graduate on time. He misses his music but he’s still singing. Thanks for letting me vent I’m good for now. I did miss his call he was frustrated about missing to talk to me and forgot he could have left a message but next time. Thank s again moms I’m back on track my mind and heart is good life is good and in a few weeks I’ll have a sailor to brag about.
Good Sunday morning I have a few questions for you moms. Do they teach hands on combat in boot camp? Do they get to keep a weapon of there choice? Do they get paid in boot camp? What kind of food are they eating? How do they pick what school they will go to and is it all based off how well they pass? Have a great day today. God bless!!!!
Missing you, At boot camp they learn to work as a team. They prepare for battle stations which is an emergency on a ship. They learn about weapons, but are not given one to keep, I don't believe. My son was an instructor, and I don't remember him ever mentioning that. They do get paid, and they never starve. Many of your questions will be good to include in letters to your recruit, or you have things to start a conversation when you talk to him!
Missing you-this whole journey is a rollercoaster of emotions, right. BC changes them but it also strengthens our bond with our children. Nothing else matters but knowing they r ok n that we'll see them at graduation! God bless.
Good morning moms I hope you’re having a great week. As the time passes my anxiety gets a little less. Just knowing my son has made it this far is a blessing to me. In his letters he says I got this and it makes me sleep so much better. Only a few more weeks to go. What a great time for our sailors to graduate we should be truly grateful God has let them go this far. Thanksgiving is truly a time to be grateful for what God has given us and a time to share with our families. So Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families. Have safe travels to and from your destinations this holiday season. God bless you all.
Hello Texas Moms! I am a new Navy mom. My son leaves for BC on Dec.14th. We live in Liberty Co.(southeast TX). My son is on cloud nine about this decision he has made and has been preparing for a year. His excitement seems to help ease his Dad's and my fear and anxiousness. One minute we are so proud and excited and the next that wave of despair rolls over. His job will be a Gunners Mate so he will be in the Great Lakes area for a good while. Any and all advice is needed. Thank you Moms
