Getting together with the other Navy mom's this weekend. We are working on pillowcases for the Wound Warrior project. We should be able to make 60+ to donate.
Haven't had a chance to write for a while, but I keep up on my phone with all your news.
Rose, hope the winging is wonderful; it was one of the proudest times of my life. It is great that your son will be in Diego. Lots of great little restaurants and Balboa Park is really fun. I hope you will you get go out there.
My DS loves Japan, but it makes keeping in touch really hard due to time changes, etc. Finally got to talk to him last week for the first time in over a month. Before that it was 6 weeks. Hopefully they'll be in port sooner this time. I am running out of ideas on what to send, since they have 8 guys bunking together and very little room. (I used a lot of your joint ideas and sent boxes of baked goods for the squadron to celebrate the 4th, which they really appreciated.) I can't imagine how they ever can sleep with all the different flight schedules! Conor says the uys are pretty considerate about noise, but I'd be going nuts.
Praying for all of our LOs and the families of both the Colorado and crash victims. Thanks for all your support. I am thinking about all of you even when not writing.
Suzie, Glad to hear the housing crisis was averted! Could be that they decided to just leave the Navy guys out of it since there aren't so many of them. Your trip is getting close, right? Have a wonderful time!
ulua - training is both in Kingsville and Meridian. I've heard good and bad things about both. My DS was in Kingsville. While he didn't much like the town, there was Corpus Christi about 45 miles away. Hot and humid, but I bet the same could be said for Meridian.
DS is home from a det in Key West. I don't know if there are anymore dets in the near future. The GF (or at least I think she is still a GF) is moving back to CA next week. I don't ask too many questions. Afraid of the answers maybe.
Life is finally slowing down a little. The horses are doing fine. The one with the cast on his leg is doing pretty good being cooped up. The one with the eye problem is doing much better - back to normal. Today was the first day that DH was able to walk normally after getting his toesies stomped on and my best friend is feeling much better. Not much that we can do for her grandson except keep him busy. When school starts again, he'll have different things to think about than his dad going to Afghanistan.
Attended my sons graduation at OCS Friday as well as the other activities for graduation Thursday. What an experience. Now on to the next adventure as SNA!
Ah, Rhode Island seems so long ago, hope you had nice weather! Our DS finished OCS in January and there was snow for our trip to RI.
Nancy W-as you know our DS was Pri-A after CQ's off the west coast in June. He was flying to Hong Kong in less than a week to meet up with the USS George Washington. They returned to Atsugi, Japan for a 3 week break. We were able to skype for two hours this morning and get all caught up. He had chosen the 2 seater F-18 and had done all his training in the 2 seater. After CQ's there was a 1 seater spot open and he had to switch.
His Squadron, the "Royal Maces" have been incredible helping him get settled in. The Facebook Ombudsman page even posted pics of him bombing the wake of the ship and doing fly-bys. Stated that it was 'their newest pilot" and gave his name and temporary callsign "probie". What a thrill !! I have heard from several sources and on N4M that the cruise deployments are increasing to 9 months. Being in Japan, it's my understanding that they will have shorter deployments since they are already over there.
His roommates in Lemoore were able to get his pack out done for him, and with a copy of his orders, we were able to get his Comcast and Direct TV cancelled.
My advise to anyone if you are Pri-A, make sure you plan to do an extremely quick turn around when you get back from CQ's. Better to be over-prepared. We had no idea that it could happen so quickly. Had we known, I would have been in CA when he got back to Lemoore and been able to get a hug before he left!!
TNnavymom- Isn't it great how they all help each other out with the moves? My DS knew in August that he was going to Atsugi, but orders got delayed and then suddenly he had to be there in a week. By then it was Nov. and the Navy couldn't get his stuff until after he was due in Japan. Thank heavens friends oversaw the load up.
Tell your son to be prepared for a long wait for his "stuff". It's been running 3-4 months for the last year to get there from the States. Luckily, we were warned, so I shipped a lot of uniforms and stuff separately. If he opts for off-base housing, they do loan them some furniture, etc. Of course, I learned about the loaners from a N4M who has one DS there now and had another there recently! Neither my DS or his roomate knew anything about it!
Yes, the GW has a really unique deployment schedule, probably because it is the only forward deployed carrier ( never comes back to the States). The squadrons also do a lot of PR with the Japanese. My guy gets really embarrassed about all the attention they get at the air shows, etc. He definitely prefers "flying under the radar"!
Here's are hard working team of Navy mom's (Ulua and Paymaster are on the right in the back). We made 50 pillowcases for the Wound Warrior project. It took us 5 hours to make them with french seams. We had a great day, good food and a lot of laughter!
Rose, love the pics. Thanks for sharing. Winging seems so very far away at this point. It's great to be able to picture what's in our future. And great cross-stitch! That took a few hours.
KUNavy - my DS came home early as his time with VFA 137 was over. It certainly has bee a long deployment. With the ship going in for refitting hopefully it will give him more time to come home and spend some time.
Mines been home for awhile as his time with his squadron was over and is now an instructor at VFA122 in Lemoore. But I'm glad that the Lincoln is home and our guys can get back to their families and have a Christmas at home for the first time in over 2 years.
I haven't been on in forever, but have followed lots of the goings on...
Suzie, what happened with the trip, did you find the final destination?
Jami, prayers for going through SERE.
Leslie, congratulations! How long did it take from start to finish?
Are the winging pictures out here somewhere? I would love to see them!
Our son surprised us Friday night...the siblings through us a 30th anniversary party complete with renewing our vows and we thought he was going to skype in at 10pm to give a toast and then...there he was!! I don't think I've ever hugged him so tight and so long. It was amazing! Then he was back to Enid Sunday night. He was super talkative, which is unusual but terrific. I think he's happy and that's all I can hope for!
Thanks for the welcome Nancy. My son reports to OCS in Nov as a SNA, I've got a lot to learn and read about between now and then. Obviously he is a Texas Aggie, former member of the Corps of Cadets.
Aggiemom join some of the face book pages for current classes. My son was 14-12 and FB support was great. There are 14-12, 15-12, 16-12, 17-12. 01-13 and 02-13 pages right now. Get on those and read documents. Would be good to have page made for your sons class now and people can start joining.
Most of the pages start USNavy OCS class ( Then class number). If you do a search they pop up. Ask to join
Aggiemom...glad you joined in here. Are you going to make the Dallas Mom's dinner on the 23rd? I would love to meet you there. My DS is in the midst of IFS now, but already did the swimming/survival portion of API. There is a bunch of Aggies that get together in P'cola to hang out.
@Dawn - I have joined one OCS Facebook page, not sure which one without looking. It was one my son sent me to. I will suggest he start one for his class, I don't know the class number. @Cheri - Yes I plan on being at the dimmer on the 23rd. All these acronyms are killing me. Hope you are all enjoying the weekend. For the first time in Months, Chicago is not baking in record heat. We even got some rain this week, though not in time for the farmers.
We lost our 15 1/2 year old blue heeler mix pup this week. I know that she is in a better place. She's been blind for the last year and 1/2 and been such a trooper. Every weekend for the last 14 years has been that at 5 o'clock, she and our other dog that we lost 4 years ago would get a "cocktail" when we get one. On a more upbeat note, the horse with the cracked bone has done amazingly well with his cast. It will be 4 weeks tomorrow night and we are having it taken off Monday and x-rayed again to see if we need to put another back on. He's been a trooper and a character. He's adapted quite well.
DS's GF has moved back to CA so we'll see how that goes. Everyone has a great weekend. I'll let you know how the vet visit goes on Monday.
AH...Sorry to hear that you lost your pup this week. They are such a big part of the family. Take care of yourself as you go through this grieving period.
AH - sorry about your pup. I know how much you miss him. We lost one several years ago; couldn't bring myself to get another. But DS decided that since he was marrying and moving to P'cola we needed a distraction. So he found us a white lab pup. She is adorable, brings us so much love and laughter! Wears me out, but so quickly became a part of the family. I hope your horse gets a good report from the vet.
AH - sorry to hear about your pup. Been there and will be there again. My mini Aussie in profile picture is 12. We got a really nice long call from him just a bit ago. Sounds so good and I'm so glad that he is home for some time now. I guess that his old squadron will now be assigned to the Reagan now that that the Lincoln is in for refurbishing. Thankfully, they probably won't go out again until early 2014. The Lincoln was out 2 Christmas' in a row.
I'm excited that DS will be coming home for Christmas this year. Can hardly wait. Everyone..... have a great week. I'll post again tomorrow night to let you know how Jose' does whith his cast.

Jose' doesn't have a cast for now. So good news. We watch him for awhile and see how he does. A little bit of a limp right now. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

It's been quite some time since I have checked in.... Looks like everyone is moving right along in the process. Just wanted to share that today I saw another amazing performance by our Navy Blue Angels practicing for the weekend Air & Water show in Chicago.... Our sons and daughters are all incredible!!!
Navy wife and mom is correct. In the 12 years my son has been flying I can't count the number of times he has been through the FRS. They FRS every time they change aircraft type, sub-type, and mission. They FRS after shore assignments where they don't fly. He's at USNWC and wil go to the FRS after graduation. Then at the squadron they train, train, train. Its what keeps them safe and ready.

Just wanted to share that today I saw another amazing performance by our Navy Blue Angels practicing for the weekend Air & Water show in Chicago.... Our sons and daughters are all incredible!!!
