Kris, you must have had a heart-stopping few moments until you learned your DS was safe. So many prayers and thoughts for the  pilots family. We do all share everyone's experiences.

  • lou2949

Hi all...... I posted earlier but somehow it was deleted I think due to Internet issues in my office........my DS is training at Top Gun now and the marine pilot involved in the tragic accident was in my son's class. This young man was a father to 4 children.....the youngest being born while he's been in Fallon. His wife and children are in Japan. I talked my son twice today and he said the class wants to set up a college fund for the children. He will send me details when he knows more about the fund. They had a memorial service for him today on base. We continue to pray for this young family and for all who knew him. This has been very hard on the class. Will post about the fund as I get the info.

Ok.....I'm going to vent......though I don't post on this site very often, I truly understand the value of all of you ladies plus Jim.....it's really amazing to me just how many families there are out there who have NEVER had anyone in the military so they have no clue about the sacrifice our loved ones make for them.....I'm thinking of the young marine who sacrificed his life on Saturday leaving behind a wife who loved him and four young children, the youngest he never met and that sweet child will never know his daddy and how special and brave he was. When I tell this tragic story to people in my town I've known for a long time, their reaction is disappointing to say the least.....it's not their child or anyone they know so no biggie...I am so disappointed in the American people and their "taking for granted" our freedom that has never been free by the way.....the way we have been so blessed to live is only because of people like our sons and daughters who stepped up to the plate.....of all the people we know, how many of their children have done the same. I'm sorry, but I'm blown away by the mindset of so many who have no idea about honor, bravery, integrity, country and sacrifice.....will we ever go back to all of those qualities that have made our country so great.....ok....I'm done....

Hello NavalAviation, is this page also for the Sailors in AD? My son just arrived in Pensacola for A schooling in AD. He's PIR in Great Lakes last Feb 28'14.

Lou2949: Well said Lou. I strongly agree with you. I so sad to think about it.:(

This was sent to me by a navy wife and I felt it would be good to post. I know we are all very careful about what we say but this is a good reminder. This is what I recieved:
I don't know f you can make a post on the Navy 4 Moms but it was brought up on spouses pages on posting things about crashes so quickly so families can be notified through the proper channels instead of finding out through social media.
I first heard of the crash from a parent posting and it came to my email. Who knows if any other parents are on there that it could have been their child killed.

A navy spouse found out through Facebook and social media that her husbands squadron had a helo fall off a ship...before she was notified properly. Then she was notified it was her husband. Then she found out through social media the search had been called off before the command notified her and the articles that were posted were incorrect details.

This is what was posted on a spouses page:
Just a gentle reminder: As a community of Navy/Marine spouses, our hearts break every time we hear of a tragedy. However, please refrain from posting news articles on this site to ensure that the families that have been affected get notified properly and not through this channel. Thank you!

Change of Command today and DS is beginning the adventure of his XO/CO tour.

  • Paymaster

Life is good, the son is back on US soil!

  • Helomom

End of his overseas tour, Paymaster?
  • Paymaster

Helomam...End of this deployment.  Have no idea where he was located, he was off the grid.

The place that does the posters that were talked about earlier in posts and several people liked, -squadron posters-finished the Kingsville posters and they are on their site now. They have 3. One just says kingsville and then they have one for VT-21 and One for VT-22
  • Dawn

http://www.squadronposters.com/product-category/base/nas-kingsville/. This is the site. I had never added a discussion so hope I put it in the right place.

Our son begins SERE on the west coast. I can't believe it's finally here and I can't wait for it to be behind us in two weeks. My daughter and granddaughter and I are planning a visit for his birthday, just a few days after his return from SERE. I'm anxious to wrap my arms around him! Have a good week all.
  • CheriH

Praying for him Barb...and that he comes out stronger for it!

  • Barb

Thanks everyone...I know it will all be fine, but that doesn't stop my fretting.  It is comforting to know there are Moms all over the Country with their arms around us and including our DS in their prayers.  I'm grateful to be able to return the favor whenever I can!

  • Vcstones

Hello All! My DS just graduated primary and is headed to NAS JAX for EP3 training. Does anyone know how long until winging or have any insight on this next leg of the journey?
  • BuckeyeMom

Thanks for the Welcome! What a great resource all of you are! I had 4 brother all of whom were navy and a few nephews as well, but once my son was in I have had 1000 more questions!
It will be fun and comforting to be part of this group.
  • Helomom

DS is at Fallon training for the next month or so. Ramping up.
  • CheriH

I really hate the waiting and wondering today.  Some days I handle it better than others.

  • Barb

CheriH, I hear you.  Some days my hard candy shell gets a little melty.  Hang tough...

  • CheriH

Ok...the waiting was worth it!  He selected Strike...on to Advanced!  I will sleep well tonight.

  • CheriH

Just heard Wolf Blitzer interview a US Navy LCDR (I think that was the rank) who is involved with the search planes in Australia.  Was very proud of the LCDR as he was very well-spoken, respectful and didn't take the baited questions that Wolf asked him.  Just makes me even more proud of all our aviators!

  • CheriH

Thanks Dawn...hope your son is doing well.  The CO told DS that the next 6 months is even harder and more stressful than the first six months. I'm sure it will be exciting.

  • Dawn

That is for sure. Exciting times.
  • JudyM

Cheri, awesome news. Each decision point is exciting. I so love reading about where each aviator is both physically and in career.
My DS in Idaho on a EA Det.
  • CheriH

    Thanks JudyM...and what is EA?

  • JudyM

EA is electronic attack. DS is a growler (EA-18) pilot out of Whidbey.

  • CheriH

    Oh...thanks!

  • Paymaster

Welcome Abbelanai!  Welcome to our rollercoaster.  Let us know if we can help you in anyway.

  • AbigaeLanai

Thank you everyone :) I appreciate the support! My boyfriend is on hold in Aschool right now, only the beginning of his aviation career. He's going to be a Machinest Mate? Anyone have any info on this rate? Have anyone with this rate? Any info/advice is definetely appreciated as I'm so new to this :)
  • Paymaster

Abbylanai....Sorry I don't know anyone in that rate.  You might check the Air Crew group for information.  Good luck to you.

  • CathieRenee

MM is not an Aircrew rating either. Aircrew is AW with sub ratings of AWR and AWS for helo, AWF, AWO and AWV for fixed wing.
  • Helomom

Abbylani, if he is a machinist mate and in aviation, he could be an AD. Not sure what group that would be. Our daughter was an AT, aviation electronic technician in the 90's and my husband was an AQ, aviation fire control technician, in the 60's. So you might do a google search if you are looking for info on the AD rate and search on N4M for AD groups.
  • NOAM

Hi all! My page is different as well. Guess it's meant as an improvement.

Suzie - where did you get an arresting cable? Very intriguing.

  • CheriH

They changed the look of the site several weeks ago...I figured it was similar to facebook's many changes.  They just sort of happen one day.

We are heading to Kingsville this weekend for the air show.  Can't wait to see the Blue Angels fly and get a tour of the base from DS and his wife.  I've always loved seeing the Angels; I will have a different perspective this time knowing that DS will be flying an F18 very soon!

  • TennMom

NOAM, our DS got a piece of arresting cable when he finished CQ's.  So far he is hanging on to it and not letting us have it!!

Blue Angels are coming to Middle Tennessee this year too!

DS's squadron have left Fallon for their return to Japan.  Some beautiful pics on Facebook over Lake Tahoe and Yosemite.  How many of you wake up and look at Facebook first thing in the morning to see if our LO's have posted pics? Usually our DS is tagged in someone else's picture, but it starts my day off with an awww!!

Returned a week ago from Dubai, UAE and Oman. Very beautiful scenery and a busy 2 weeks doing touristy stuff!  I was glad to have had the opportunity to be there while my sister was teaching.  This summer she transfers to India, so I guess I know where I am going next!!

Started back in Nursing this week after a 7 year hiatus.  I have missed it, and didn't realize how much until this week. So blessed to have recovered fully from my brain injury 7 years ago!

  • Barb

Hi there, Thanks for the kind thoughts these last two weeks while DS was at SERE...we got the "survived" text on Thursday afternoon and I couldn't have been happier.  Our LOs give so much, I am just so proud.  What a grueling experience.  Have a great weekend...we've got two games to watch Sunday for the Elite 8 and then next week my daughter and I get to go hug up DS!

  • NOAM

Love it Suzie! Look forward to the pic.

Congrats Barb! My DS recently had SERE and the relief was unbelievable. So glad this is behind you and your DS.

  • JudyM

I love reading all of the adventures and the the reunions. DS got back from Idaho DET last night. We go to visit Easter weekend. Yeah!
  • TennMom

Shelia, the Blue Angels are in Smyrna, TN June 14-15. If there are other LO's coming, we should get something going, maybe a tailgate!

  • CheriH

Enjoyed our weekend in Kingsville immensely!  The Blues were wonderful and we got to see the briefing room, squadron and watch DS "hosting" at the plane.  Answering questions from visitors and posing for pictures.  He even got asked for his autograph from a little tyke.

He is getting ready to leave for a DET; weapons and low-level flying training.  Praying that he and DIL adjust to their first separation.   She's pretty quiet and shy but has several plans for while he is gone, so I'm very proud of her.

Navy wife and mom: so sorry for your loss.  So good DS got to come.

Barb: what a relief that SERE is over!

  • TennMom

NurseNavyMom, the link for Blue Angel Tickets in Smyrna is

    http://www.greattennesseeairshow.com/

I was thinking about splurging on the flight line tickets, comes with beer and wine!

  • Paymaster

Sheila.....Always good to see you here!  Miss your posts:)

    How's is you son doing?

  • Helomom

Let's see, how do I do this... Hey my friends, PACFLEET has changed the HSC -15 public Navy site. There are new Command Bios. Wow, that new XO looks sharp. Http://www.hsc15.navy.mil
  • Paymaster

Helomom....Your right about that sharp looking XO!

  • CheriH

Whoa helomom!  Great pic...and impressive bio.  Thanks for sharing.  You've earned the right to be proud and crow a bit!!

  • Helomom

Thanks CheriH and Paymaster. We are pretty proud. Read over the OPSEC rules and decided to squeak it in. I'm just sitting here with a big smile.
  • Paymaster

    Helomom...We need a like button!

  • JudyM

I agree, nice looking XO Helomom.
  • Helomom

Thank you, ladies! He's living the dream.
