Lizzy, I have no idea what MO means. I presume it is an abbreviation for a job in the Navy, maybe??? LoL.  Now you have me wanting to find out.
  • ProudGMBarb

Debbie...and Ang...what the heck are you two ladies up to? Hey...no secrets here...we all want to get in on the fun. Who's not a mother? Come on...spill the beans! lol.

Ang...if you come up Chandler way, be sure to let me know! Have you ever gone to the Blue Star Moms meetings in Tucson? I'm going to the East Valley meeting on Thursday. I think we're going to be packing care packages to send off.

I'm laughing a little about your "slobs". My husband was so neat he drove off several potential girlfriends before he met me. He had a little trailer he rented in Sugar Grove, and he'd bring girls to his place. He was just too neat for them, he said the one was all ready to clean and cook for him, but he'd beat her to it! I'm the sloppy one in this relationship, LOL. He cooks as often as I do.

Had to share my Mother's Day gift.  Flowers and pic of him were on my desk at work.  I had ladies meet me in the hall and walking to my office with me.  They had already seen it and wanted to see my reaction.  Very happy and emotional morning for me.
  • Vickyrun

    Lovely flowers R'sproudmom.

Anti M., A man who can cook? You are a lucky woman!

  • Sandy's_sailor son

R'sproudmom, I think those flowers are very pretty.

Anti M, before I met my husband I dated a guy who was so clean it was nauseating. There wasn't a spec of dust anywhere, even in the bathroom. His clothes were folded neatly in his dresser draws and in plastic bags. We were friends all through high school. I think had we married we would be divorced by now. I'm no neat freak. I think I would have driven him nuts.

Just put my daughter on a bus heading to Dullas. She is heading to Europe for 17 days. Wow, the house is already empty.  I work at an elem. school and am off during summers.  Getting an early taste of the peeps leaving the nest. Don't like it much.
  • Elizabeth

    oh ok
  • ProudGMBarb

Hey Lizzy...when you reply to a post, could you please start it with the name of the person whose post you are replying to....that would be great because it helps us follow the conversations and who said what to who, etc ! Otherwise, it's kind of a guessing game. Thanks a bunch!
  • ProudGMBarb

Debbie...yup...here in Chandler! Would love to meet ya sometime!

R'sproudmom....what gorgeous flowers!!! What a sweet sailor you have!  And...I hear ya about the empty nest! It's tooooo dang quiet around here!

Ang...you certainly have your hands full! Bless you for what you do!

AntiM...okay...talk about neat....I cracked up the first time I went to do laundry for my hubby...many moons ago. We both were working and wore "dress" clothes, and both had our own hampers. So, I open his, and what do I see? His dress slacks are all folded neatly and stacked in the hamper...just like they were ready to be hung up on a hanger! I Trying not to laugh, I asked him why he had them folded so neatly in the hamper. He replied..."So they don't get wrinkled."  Ummm..I said...that's really nice honey, but ya know when they get put in the washing machine they will be getting tumbled around in all which ways. He never stopped folding them...29 years later... still does it today with jeans. He's a keeper.

  • Sandy's_sailor son

My Dad is super neat. He is used to be in the Air-Force. He can fit an elephant in a suitcase. When I was a kid he would pack my suitcase with tons of clothes. He would make packing look so easy. For the trip back, I would have to pack my own suitcase. There was no way I could fit everything back in. I would have to get 2 people to sit on my suitcase so it would close. I didn't inherit any neat jeans what so ever.
  • Sandy's_sailor son

R'sproudmom. I miss my son too. I have two more children at home. Empty Nest syndrome is no fun.

I hope your daughter has a safe and fun trip.

  • Deb (FC Mom)

Taking off my Navy mom hat & putting on my Air Force mother-in-law hat...traveling to McGuire AFB with my daughter tomorrow (for a week) to deliver my daughter to her husband. Let newly wedded bliss begin...and more mom worrying too ;-)
  • Sandy's_sailor son

    Deb, LoL..
  • Deb (FC Mom)

Total empty nest now...they got married 3 days after Christmas...SUPRISE...just over a month after my sailor left for boot. Its been a roller coaster of a year in my brain. Thats what I get for having them 20 months apart.

Hello all. I have a question... i am planning to move to Great Lakes mid-july. My husbands A school is over a year long so i am almost certain his live ashore packet will get approved. Our lease here is ending in July so i would like to move to GL and get a place, find a job, and start settling in. I am hoping that his CHIT/live ashore will be approved by then.. but in the event that is is not.. if i move there and find an apartment will my husband get in trouble for signing the lease during liberty? This is a concern he has. We know he will not be able to live ashore until the packet is approved. I talked to Navy Legal about getting a military clause on the lease and he said it is not necessary to do so anymore as they have passed a new law that any active duty member on the lease is able to get out of the lease with their orders. He also said that i am entitled to that law, but sometimes the apartment can try to fight that and take me to court, which he said would not be a problem but it would be more of a hassle than i am looking to get into so i would much rather prefer my husbands name to be on the lease. Another question i had. IF i do move i would just bring a few necessitys to get by on because i am making a long drive from GA to IL. I was hoping that if i leave my items in storage that when the packet gets approved the navy will still move my furniture and all up to my apartment. Is this possible? This is my first move so i need all the advice i can get. I am open to all advice. Thank you all so much!
  • Joy125 (FC Mom)

@Deb: Empty next syndrome here, too.  Both of my youngerst daughters left in April.  One moved out with her boyfriend, the other went to bootcamp.  They are 17 months apart.  I've never, ever been in a home without children.  It's a good thing I have nursing school to contend with, otherwise I would be going stir crazy!
  • Sandy's_sailor son

Joy125, It is not easy when the kiddos leave home. I was glad to be in school too while my son was in boot camp.
  • Vickyrun

I have been enjoying a taste of the Empty nest, the teenager has been at her Dad's for 2 weeks and will be home on Monday.( I like the no loud music )Then she will most likely go live with her Dad in the Fall, for the 1st time. This will be a big change , hopefully it will all work out ok.
  • Joy125 (FC Mom)

I must say, I do enjoy everything being the same as I left it when I get home from school.  No sink full of dishes.....cups, water bottles everywhere.  Less laundry.  Less grocery shopping.  Down side.....less laughs, less help (with dogs, especially....my daughter took good care of them), more worries. So, there is always a good side and bad side to everything.  But I know Uncle Sam is taking good care of her, and that is the biggest relief.
  • dj's mom

Hi ladies been awhile.  My sailor just got orders today for his C school in San Deigo. He is an ET. Anyone have any info for me?  How long?  He was also given his ship assignment USS Dewey. So does that mean he will deploy with that ship?  He has been in Great Lakes since bootcamp so not sure of how all this works.  Thanks for the help

  • R'sproudmom

HI dj's mom... can't help you with the deployment info.  I am fairly new here myself but was wondering when your Sailor had PIR?  Mine was 4/29 and will be there for quite some time but I just like keeping up.  Thanks!
  • dj's mom

R's Proudmom my son's PIR was in July of 2010. Graduated A school May 9th 2011.  Been waiting for orders ever since.  Glad to be leaving Great Lakes buthe was hoping for East coast since we live in PA.

Debbie Kevin's mom .  Thanks for the info  That is what I thought but wasn"t sure.  Hope he does love it.  Can't wait to visit him and Really good friend just retired as a Master Chief out there so at least he will have family so to speak

  • Joy125 (FC Mom)

Has anyone heard about a hold on ET/ FC school?  My daughter just PIR'd and was originally told that she would finish school in January, but now they are saying December 2011???
  • Joy125 (FC Mom)

    I meant to say 2012.......duh!
  • Joy125 (FC Mom)

Thanks so much, Debbie.  I'll do that.  =)
  • R'sproudmom

Ang,  help yourself. And, I like your new picture.  I also put a couple on MY MAIN page a few days ago.  Finally had my daughter help me .  Have a great day everyone.
  • Sugar02

Dj's mom - when did your son graduate from A school?  My son was also in ET training at GL and graduated on 6/3 - still waiting for his orders.  I'm a little anxious to find out where he's going but I know it might be awhile.
  • Elizabeth

when they graduate AECF schooling! where do they go after that? any stories?
  • dj's mom

ROMINPA  he graduated A school May 9th and has b een waiting ever since.  Just got them Friday so if that is any indicaton may be a little while before your son gets his.  Seems they come in spurts

  • Anti M

ET C schools very so much it is difficult to describe where they are, how long, or even what systems.  Some ET C schools are short, and come with follow on orders to a ship.  Other C schools are a complete system and can take over six months, with permanent orders coming near/after the end of school.

The one thing which is true is that ETs are supposed to go on sea duty for their first command.  Often a ship.

  • Anti M

Vary so much, LOL, not "very"!
  • ProudGMBarb

Lizzy....Debbie is right...quite a process they go through. And yes, just like FC's, ET's will also go to C school for the area they will specialize in.

Just an example so far...our guy PIR'd on 1/14/11. Went through INDOC, followed by ATT. Then had a bit of a wait after ATT before A school started. He is now in the 6th week of A school. Generally, A school (for ET) is about 19 weeks.

Lizzy..it is also important for your sailor to try to keep his GPA up. It could (but no guarantees) play a big part in where he goes later.

If you're looking for "stories"...then AntiM is your gal to ask!!!

  • Elizabeth

    thanks :)
  • Anti M

Debbie, I'd assume the training officer on board, who would be administering the tests, would arrange for them to be taken while underway.  Although I'm not sure.
  • dj's mom

Well found out from my son he reports to his ship(USS Dewey) for 72 days and then to C School for 46 days. The Dewey just got back from deployment on May 28th. Does anyone know how long of a time period there usually is between deployments
  • Anti M

dj's mom, there is not set time frame, not even one general enough for me to take a best guess.  They usually have a lot of work to do to get the ship back in shape after a deployment, and then will do shorter underways, sea trials, exercises, and so on, until the next long deployment.  The other problem is that different ships with different missions will have a huge variation in operational tempo.  That's a question best answered in a group for that specific ship.
  • dj's mom

    Thanks Anti M
  • R'sproudmom

How common is it for Sailors to report to a ship before going to C school? Like dj"s mom was saying.

Dj's mom, is your son FC? Sorry I cannot keep up with everyone.

  • Anti M

If they get orders to a long C school, they would be very unlikely to go to a ship first.  However, if they have a shorter C school, and the wait is long until it begins, they are likely to report to their ship first.  It is more common when the ship and the school are in the same geographical area.  ETs especially can go to more than one C school, at any time.
  • R'sproudmom

Learn something new every day on NFM's.  Thanks ladies.
  • dj's mom

R's prodmom- My sailor is an ET. And as previously stated nothing is Common in the Navy.  When mine enlisted in May 2010 ther was a shortage of AECF's and now there is a surplus.  Definitely going to make it harder for them to advance.

Question for anyone who knows-  If my sailor is in C School at the time of the holidays do they have holiday stand down like the A schools and if so would he be permitte to come home since he has already been assigned to a ship?  just trying to figure it all out.

  • Elizabeth

hmm good question anti M might know the answer
  • Anti M

C schools do have stand downs.  However, if he is assigned to the ship, he is on TAD/TDY (temp duty).  His parent command is the ship.  I think he can take leave, as the school command is where he is assigned at the time.  It would be good for him to have this answer from his COC on the ship before he checks into the school.
  • ProudGMBarb

Helen...would you like me to grab those pics of your son and email them to you. Then you can post them here for those who are not on facebook. Or if you want, I can post them for you. Just let me know!

On PIR weekend what are we allowed to bring to our SR's if they are staying in GL for A school.  Cell phone, laptop, shoes, clothes anything else?
