Hi Ladies! The boat did have a recent port visit, but they are now back out to sea again. The port they visited does not have the environment to allow the guys to access a computer as readily as other places, so please don't be offended if you did not get an e-mail. If all goes well, be on the lookout for the newsletter to come out around the 10th of this month (give or take a couple of days).
Janet- Yes this will be our first over seas move. very very crazy and stressful.. my 5 yr old son is excited about the move though he is so ready to be back running around on the beach.
Hi Jane and welcome to the group. My name is Jenna Roberts and I'm the Ombudsman for the USS BUFFALO! There are some great moms on this site and they are all very helpful! I hate to do this, but I would like to ask that you edit your post. Unfortunately, the information you posted is a little too detailed in that you give possible information regarding a current underway and a possible in port period. Please don't take this personally, but Operational Security (OPSEC) is very, very important in the submarine world and we all must do our part to protect what could be critical information so our sailors stay safe. (Sorry for posting this where everyone can see, but I can't pm you until you add me as a friend.)
@mlm930, please resend your newsletter request to buffaloombudsman@yahoo.com. Include your son's name and I'll get approval from the command to add you to the mailing list.
When your son checks in to the command, ask him to give your e-mail information on his Ombudsman Information Sheet. This will give permission for you to be added to the command newsletter. Please understand that this is optional for him though.
Can anyone tell me if the Buffalo is docked? My brother and I haven't heard from our navy sibling in a while, since before Thanksgiving. And that is not the norm for him. He always calls for holidays especially since both our parents are gone.
thanks Janet...Jason called my other brother early this morning and left a message. so, i guess he's safe. thank you soooooo much for your help. and i will remember that offer next time he does this! its just so hard not knowing anything. he doesn't have a phone (he's lost 3-4) and its only us 3 as a family now since our parents aren't around. i've been a worry wart most of my life, but now more than ever! i hear of an accident around here and i worry its my other brother! i know, i seem nuts (eh, kinda am!!) but thanks for your help!!
Just wanted to stop in and say hi.. hope all is doing well . welcome marlese and hope your son enjoys his time on the buffy.. we are new to the area also :)
Hi everyone, My name is Marla Johnson and I am the new ombudsman for the USS Buffalo. I took over for Jenna at the end of Dec and have not had a chance to get on this site. I am not sure how active Jenna was on here but I tend to use Facebook as my main way of communication. The FB page is just Buffalo Ombudsman and just send a message about who you are and I will add you. Please keep in mind that I try to keep the contacts to the family of the current sailors and while I appreciate your son's service to the Buffalo in previous years the information put out pertains only to the current sailors. If you have questions please contact me via Facebook or email me at buffaloombudsman@yahoo.com. Thanks for your time.
Patricia my email address is buffaloombudsman@yahoo.com, I have a Facebook page and I do send out quarterly Newsletters. If you have any other questions you can just email me.
Hi all...my son Joshua finished nuke school in NY in January. He reported to Guam in March. This is a first for me in that when my army son did his tours in Iraq I heard from him on a fairly regular basis. This "no news is good news" is going to take some getting used to. It is great to hear that someone has had contact.
Yes my son made it just in time for this underway. It will be interesting to see how he likes it. Thank you for having this site. It helps even if I don't hear from him at least someone has heard all is well.
Liberty did indeed happen - I even got a pic! I think they were just so happy to get some time off so enjoying it was the priority. I've learned to ask no questions and seem to hear more often now.
The boat has returned and hopefully you will hear from your sons soon. It is expected that they will be busy while they are home, so please be patient. If you have a facebook page, Submarine Squadron 15 has posted pictures of the boat returning. Please like their page to see them.
I shared it on the Ombudsman facebook page. If you aren't a friend on the Ombudsman page, please request to be added. Send your friend request with your name and your relationship to your sailor on the USS BUFFALO (also mention this site) and I will try to add you as quickly as I can. Thanks!
Hi Ladies! The command is now underway. Please remember OPSEC and do not discuss boat movements or speculations of when they will or will not be returning. I am hoping to get a newsletter out soon, but I am still waiting for input from key components at this point.
Yes, the boat does half-way boxes. I collect them before the boat goes underway and they leave with the boat. It's usually the wives that send them for the married guys. I have not received any for the single guys before, but I have not solicited them either. I need to find out from the CO if they would be okay with my soliciting boxes for the single sailors. They have to get creative with the storage of the boxes, because there is not a lot of space to work with.
I will check with the CO when it would be appropriate to do this. It requires giving the parents in the states enough time to get the envelopes to me prior to the boat departing. I'll see what we can come up with.
My son will soon be a NUB on the USS Buffalo. Looking forward to hearing from other Buffalo families. God Bless America and Please keep your loving arms around our boys.
My name is Nikki Hennecy and I am currently the Ombudsman for the USS Buffalo Command. I am rarely in this site because my main focus is communicating to our sailors and families via phone, email and Facebook. I just want to let everyone know that being in the Ombudsman’s email roster and Facebook requires authorization from your sailor who is assigned to the USS Buffalo Command. An Ombudsman Emergency Contact sheet is given to him to fill up and sign so the command can forward it to me for processing. On behalf of the Captain, we want to protect our sailors’ and their families’ privacy and safety so documentations like this are very vital. OPSEC is strongly encouraged at all times. If you are not part of the email roster or Facebook, please ask your Buffalo sailor to fill up the form and add your name in. As soon as I get it, I will update my listing. Thank you so much for continuously supporting our sailors. Have a safe holiday!
My grandson is on the USS Buffalo stationed in Hawaii, not Guam. Perhaps there is another area where I should be trying to get information. This is all new to me and I appreciate any help someone is willing to give. This is the first time my family has had Navy connections and he loves what he is doing. I wish to learn all I can in order to better support and understand his new life. Thank you in advance for any help you may give me.
Just joined this group. I don't see many current postings on here. Is it still active? My grandson just arrived in Honolulu on Nov 15, 2014 to serve aboard the USS Buffalo. The boat was out on maneuvers when he arrived and it was a couple of weeks later that he got to meet the crew, etc. He thinks they are all a great bunch and is eager to serve with them. I think they might have gone out on another maneuver trip with him on board now. I am anxious to hear how he likes "being underwater".
