Hey to the New moms on here. The Navy Moms would like you to know that we really enjoy each others company and we are here to help with questions and support. We hope you enjoy the adventure of the Navy along with your Sailor.
Sounds like the 2 couples you meet were hanging out with Shania Twain and her ex and her nannies ex who she married. lol Hey, I'm not going to knock something that I don't understand especially if it works. lol
I am a new mom, though old in uniforms...so many in our families...smile. I think this is going to be a great wall to talk and ask questions, cause I know I have many...smile.
I just finished writing my son like the 8th letter in a week and half....is that too much?? I hope somehow he gets to write one. So how long will it take to have them write one, home?
NYHoliday- My son grad bc Jan 28. I mailed a letter twice a day everyday since i received his address. I'd mail one in the morning and 1 in the evening. The postoffice is a block away from work. Your letters will mean EVERYTHING to him. Be upbeat, don't be sad, don't tell him how hard it really is. I'd write about what my day was like (only the positives ha) on the back of his letter i'd send the joke of the day from an internet site. They aren't able to write you nearly as much, but keep your letters going. That is the only real way you can help him right now. Plus like Joan said, it helps YOU. It helped me feel better inside, although I'd be crying almost everytime I'd write. I think I received my first letter from my son after 3 weeks. Hang in there and be strong!! you have alot of support on this site. when you can, join the group for your sons ship/division, you will bond and be able to share information from your son's letters. KEEP THE LETTERS GOING!!!
My ex-husband and my husband went to my middle sons bachelor party they rode 4 hours each way with each other and they had a blast-- it does make life tolerable and funny
NYHoliday, Absolutely what Joan & Kimberly said and a suggestion from me...I sent my son up lifting and joyful, funny cards. Some were so funny that Tristan commented that if it were not for these cards that took him from a really bad funk to a place where he could pull up those "big boy britches" and carry on. lol The best part was they were cheap 50 cents from the dollar store and I could keep the envelopes thin by writing news from home right on the cards!
Kimberly - it's so much better than arguing! :) My parents have been divorced 40+ years and still they barely make eye contact. NYHoliday - write, write, write...but know that he may not get all of your letters. We had some returned after he was already in Pensacola. My son loved BC, especially loved the food. He had a great division that really worked together even though they were a push division so they had one less week together.
It does seem like someone elses life. The fact that we all get along is weird at first it was for the kids now-- not all the time or even often but holidays weddings funerals are not bad because he is there.
Hello Ladies! Thought I'd pop in for a little post. Just spoke to Lynch. He just finished working with this lady to enter all the info to upgrade his clearance. I'm surprised he didn't need to know the date of his first bowel movement, lol!
Suzi-OH, Ha! That's funny!! My Corpsman is a reservists and his "Nausk" sounds like anyway stands for his drill station; well 1 weekend a month he drives 4 hours to Los Angles and trains with his platoon. OMG, it's like whose on 1st and what's on 2nd there!! They really have to get there act together over there!! He feels like it's hard to be professional when the powers that be over there are not!!
Hi everyone.. I wanted to let you all know I attended my first "Blue Star Mom" meeting! It was awesome.. they do so much in the community for our military men and women, the care packages go all over and automatically your son/daughter, spouse will get one! We are going to help a wounded warrior in our community in a few weeks. The moms there were great and some have boys in Afghanistan right now and told stories that were just heart breaking and some that were so joyous! I highly recommend if you can, to find your local chapter and get involved. We are now part of the military and need to do what we can to help them as much as we can. There are more and more people against the military (Westboro church), that we have to be diligent in showing our support and helping in every way we can. I recruited 2 of my sons friends moms, who are Marine moms, and 1 off the N4M NM group.
JudyB - lol - At least it sounds like you son is on the ball even if not everyone else is as well. My son is watchbill coordinator for barracks support and also for his duty station. He's getting a taste of people loving him one day and mad at him the next depending on the watch or duty he assigns to them.
mamawalrus - It's wonderful you hooked up with the Blue Star Moms. I contacted our local chapter, but have not been able to make a meeting yet. Unfortunately, with everything going on in the world now, groups like BSM will be needed more and more.
Hello , my daughter just left on The USS Ronald Regan , She is an Airmen , Hello to all Navy Moms any information will be so appreciated , this is Her first tour , Thank you Go NAVY
mikesmom - it will be a day you will always remember!!! It's so emotional!! Fuzzy - what is your daughter's rate? Mine is AWV and waiting to leave for SERE training. How nice to get an email......texting, email , skype, etc...make it so much easier! When my first husband was in the Navy there was none of those.
Shirley - Where is your son now? What is his rate?
Hi Everyone, I just joined your group. My daughter is very excited about joining the navy. We're handing in her paperwork next week. Her recruiter is great and we love all the support and encouragement we receive there. I am very supportive and excited for her. She is interested in the arts and media, possibly journalism. My ex-husband was in the Air Force for 13 years and we had a good life during our time. It's all what you make of it. My son is finishing up tech school with the Air Force in April and will be assigned to Germany.
I was excited to learn about this site through the recruiter. I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible.
Hi Kathyf and wgiaquinto, Welcome to Navy4moms and congratulations to your sailor for passing PIR and congratulations to your new SR! There are so many groups on this site that I'm sure you will find a group for your son/daughter's rate, your state where you live, hobby sites and faith sites too! You always have family here!
WandaG, My sons rate is FMF Corpsman, he finished up all of his training Dec.14th for a total of 8 months. He is a reservists but he drills up at his Drill Station in the middle of Los Angles 1 weekend a month; just one artery of the U.S. Navy!
Hi everyone, I just found this group!! Guess I was not expanding my horizons. I do know a few of you.
For the rest my daughter is waiting to leave for her first duty station, she is a CE. She will be at Port Hueneme CA. She is a Seabee. She loves her job, and loves her unit.
Some know, she has overcome some very odd things in her time so far. I am proud of her, she never quits. Some of the things she tells me, I know I would never do.... ahh a different generation of kiddo's that is for sure.
Judy, I'm sure you're very proud of your son The reservist also have an important role in the NAVY. What does SR mean?
Suzi_OH, my daughter has not signed a contract yet. We handing in preliminary paperwork on Tue, March 15. She will be taking her ASVAB the end of this month. Although she has her Bachelor's Degree, she has chosen to go enlisted. She prefers learning the nitty gritty of the job first before she starts managing people. What is AWV?
Good Morning Wanda, SR stands for "Seaman Recruit" which is what your daughter's rate is going to be once she starts BC "Basic Training"!! There just so happens to be a site here for Naval Basic Training, just go to groups up at the top of this page and join!
My daughter just started attending the DEP meeting last Thursday. I will ask about the Daughter in the Navy group. I haven't heard about that. That's wonderful to hear about your daughter. Good luck, I hope she does well.
My daughter wants to know what is involved to become a Petty Officer, such as, what is in the test, how long is the test, how much preparation is involved, how long do they require you to be in the NAVY before taking the test, what are the requirements to become a Petty Officer? Sorry, we have lots of questions. Any information is helpful. By the way, what does DC and AS stand for?
Thanks for the info Kathy. My daughter is very good about writing down all her questions before she visits her recruiter. The recruiter is also very good about asking her if she has any questions. It's funny, when she first thought about joining the military last year she visited the Air Force. They were not as welcoming as the NAVY. Maybe it was just that office. I don't know if all the Air Force recruiting offices operate the same way. But you could feel the difference. I definitely felt that my daughter did not belong there. I'm glad we took the time to investigate the NAVY. My daughter has her Bachelors and the recruiter will automatically put her application in for officer but she prefers to do the nitty gritty of the job first before managing people. Plus usually the wait is longer to get in and she prefers to get in as soon as possible. She will definitely apply for officer if she ends up as an enlisted first. Thanks again!
Hi Kathy, being a former Air Force wife I've had 13 yrs of exposure to the military life and believe it or not, not all the jobs are dangerous. It really depends on the job you have. Regardless of the job one is assigned, they all play an important role. I'm looking forward to learning more about the NAVY.
Wanda - you are so right!! When Lynch first talked about joining the Navy, it didn't sound like anything too dangerous. Now, I'm finding out the potential is a bit more than I realized.....but it's just that...potential for danger. More than likely he will never face a tough situation. But, I am trusting the Navy to prepare my son with the tools he needs to do his job and to protect himself and his country. And, most any job can be dangerous if you are not prepared properly and don't respect the duty.
mamawalrus - which shirts are you selling? I've seen more than one.
Sorry they are not from me,,, they are a site that is selling them for "Wear Red On Fridays" campaign,,, we have worn Red on Friday but now there is a shirt for this. I found them on FB and they seem pretty cool! I posted the email site and they are also on FB.. think it is Support Our Troops-Wear Red on Fridays...
Oh yeah....you can print almost anything on Zazzle. I won't patronize Cafe Press since they allowed the Battered Women items on there. I asked N4M to remove them from this site in protest, but nothing happened. They are no longer on their site for now.
I did find a couple groups on Facebook who are offering the shirts.
We have a huge all school district consignment sale this week that I chair. I'm going to see how many volunteers I can get to wear red on Friday!! Last year we raised just under $34,000 between our Fall and Spring sales!!! Hooyah!
Gosh...BC seems so long ago. It was hard, but interesting....big learning curve and life experience. The joy of PIR was well worth all those weeks.....for all of us. Now, my son will start SERE tomorrow and for me, this is much harder. But, I am confident that the US Navy will provide the best training to prepare my son for any situation that might come his way. Hooyah Aircrew!
