Anyone on here have a Gunner's Mate in Gulfport attached to NMCB 133? Tyler said there were 3 others and they were really nice.
  • Dona

Welcome Staci! This is a great place for support when you need it. Keep us posted on your sailor. You will enjoy graduation-congratulations! Where is he going for A school?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

When a new sailor reports for active duty and is stationed in Gulfport at the Seabee base, what happens when they first arrive? Do they go thru an INDOC course.....Combat Training....anyone with experience got any good info....Any help appreciated.

Questions regarding pay: Tyler (Single-No Dependents) just arrived in Gulfport mid-Feb. His check has a BAH-basic housing added to it. He lives in the Barracks in Gulfport....does he really get a BAH each month? Also does galley charge for all meals each month or just the meals he eats there? Sorry to need so much info...but moving to Gulfport from GL creates new question.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Thanks Sara...I'll send him to payroll with a copy of the LES so they can correct it. I always take any extra/new money in his paycheck and put it back in case they come back later for it...that way there's no surprises.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

My son has been in Gulfport since Feb 12th. It has been great to have him so close....he's been home the last 2 weekends....I think he's glad to be closer to home...He finally got his new truck this weekend....Now I'm glad I don't have to make that trip to Gulfport twice every weekend...Now if he can just get through with INDOC and move on to ESC (Combat Training???).

Is there a Group for us moms that have a son in Diego G.
  • GraphicT81

I'm a Mom of a seabee in Afganistan. I haven't heard from him for quite awhile. I hate the no knock on the door is a good day, but I do find myself praying every night that I did not get one. I'm so afraid. Anyone in my situation, send me a sanity stick
  • Cyncyn

Hi I am just joining your group and could use some help. My son is at Sheppard for A school in Seabee training. Best thing in the world for him but he is trying to do an ELS. How can I encourage him to keep at it?? He just has a few weeks left but is seeing the Social Worker. Whe we talk he sound so depressed and cant get any privacy to talk to us. He has to go outside to talk to us.
  • Brogden's mom

My son's getting married before he goes to combat training in Gulf Port. Where will he and his new wife live? He'll be there for 4 wks. Don't know if he'll know where he'll be stationed once he finishes "A" school or when he finishes his combat training. He only has 10 days to come home and get married, then off to Mississippi. Anyone out there with any advise?
  • Dona

What a beautiful baby, Denise! That is wonderful he was able to come home and hold her!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Thanks for the info Staci! Not sure what to expect Chris says he gets leave in June then is off to Gulfport. We are so excited boot camp is behind him. We are leaving today for PIR. Chris said he met very few Seabees there. Most were doing something with aircraft or nuke. Glad I found this site!!!!!!!!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Tyler's just left home to go back to Gulfport for the week....about 2 more weeks of ECS..anyone else have someone in ECS with NMCB 133?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Tyler said his LES was not up on mypay for 3-15-10 payday yet..He said it is usually there 7-10 days before payday...anyone else have this problem? Just wondering since he is new to Gulfport since 2-22-10....
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

It is leave and earnings statement...it shows how much pay they get each payday.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Tyler said they told them their pay would be messed up for a while when they are deployed...anyone have experience with this on how long pay would be messed up?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Sara: Were paychecks just late or were there some where he wasn't paid at all?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Thanks for the info Sara...Tyler doesn't do any allotments...we had considered doing them...but now I can see it's just better if I move his money around for him. You are the greatest..thanks so much for sharing.
  • Kelleypen

Son HATED Africa. But his return was secret. They didn't want us to know ahead of time for national security reasons. He was able to call his wife from the plane and let her know he was on his way.
  • Cyncyn

  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Mommas of 133-----does the LES on mypay.gov update while they are on deployment. Tyler got paid, but no LES was available. Anyone else experience this?
  • Kelleypen

Son just finished FEx. Getting ready for a new deployment this spring. He has a baby due in July. While we know he can get paternity leave, does anyone know of any way to get a military discount on the flight? Round trip from where he's going is nearly 2k.
  • Jaz04

My son will be starting his adventure as a BU in June, when he leave for BC. He too will be going to Gulfport. I am excited for him.
  • Dona

Kelleypen, when my daughter-in-law (Air Force)flew to my son's PIR she called and booked it to get the military discount. This was Southwest Air and the website referred you to call a number for the military discount.
  • Kelleypen

I'll find out all I can and send the information to son... I know how much he wants to be there for his first child and for his wife.
  • Cyncyn

I just got back from the graduation A school of some of or sons (no woman in this class) in Texas. It was a simple but nicely done cerimony. The boys were great. some of them went home some went right to their next assignment my son spent a few days with us. He is driving to gulfport his next assignment and should arrive today. Joane he will be starting with combat training 3 weeks then that will be his home port. Hi will be in the CB 74 from what I understand.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Tyler graduates from the Combat Training today at noon...Deploys next week to join NMCB 133...first deployment....needs prayers...Thanks!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Thanks for the encouragement and prayers ladies..you are the greatest!
  • Kim

Our son graduates "A" school April 2nd in Port Hueneme CA and then he is off to Gulfport Mississippi as a NMCB 1. He says he has combat training in Gulfport. Does anyone know how long is combat training and any ideas on when he might be delployed or when does he find out?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

My son (NMCB 133) just finished the combat training...it lasted 4 weeks...Tyler found out about his future deployments when he arrived at Gulfport and was attached to 133.
  • Kim

Thanks for all the information given. It really helps on the homefront. Now I have another question - Will he be allowed visitors when he gets to Gulfport? His grandparents are in Texas and would like to stop and see him on their way back to Michigan.
  • Cyncyn

Hi ya all just back from Texas graduation for A school at W. Falls there were some families there. I huged everyone that said their family wasnt coming that I talked to for you all. My son drove his car (thanks for the info about haveing a car in MS) He has some guys he knows from A school there That helps.
Questions about whats next for them? get a copy of their orders info is there these kids dont read them much. On my sons orders it says he will be on temp duty at Gulfport 9 days then Gulfport 26 days for combat training (yea some repeats of the same place just diff duties) then on with his NMCB 74. I would strongly suggest you get copies of their orders to keep at your home -- keep a file and read it.

The Seabees are so large that some of the batt can be in diffrent places My son is going to have home port MS some are there others are on deploment now from what i understand
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Problems arising...my son and 3 others have just finished combat training in Gulfport last Friday. They are attached to 133. They were supposed to deploy later this week to catch up with 133. This morning the CO of NMCB 74 told them they have 2 hours to vacate the barracks. Their 133 liason told them he didn't know what they were supposed to do or go and apparently didn't think it was his job to handle this. I told Tyler to go to Housing office on base; surely they will know what to do. Tyler has a truck that will hold all his stuff, but the other 2 people don't. We only live 2 1/2 hours away, but Tyler has to be on base each night. Any other suggestions I can offer to them?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Not all straightened out yet...Before he deploys Tyler will just bring all his stuff/truck home. He just has nowhere to sleep for the next three nights.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Finally they have Tyler and the other 2 people stowed in new barracks. Still don't know when they will be deployed to the desert...no tickets have been purchased yet...no malaria pills on base....just waiting on the Navy!

    Staci,
Basic grad was a BIG deal for the boys A school had a small room with the 8 boys and their teachers with I am guessing 3 families. I was told it was not a big deal and now I believe them(not well orginized ) but was worth it to me to do the 12 hour drive. My son found out his ordes about a week before his graduation. Again get a copy to keep in your files. Yes he went directly to MS from Texas. We drove his car to him in Texas and flew back to CO. It is nice for them to have a car at their home port. They do give them travel time to get to MS and if they are driving they will reimburse receipts. (note it is hard for under 21 year olds to find a motel to rent a room over night showing the military ID helped) He could have taken leave between A School and combat training but he had time between Basic and A school ( Christmas) I think this works out better for him because there are some guys he(and your son) know now already there and they can tell him the scoop. They will give them duties but nothing like A school or basic so My son thinks he is on vacation. As far as MA sorry that is not one of the choices they are given there is a southern CA and MS of course My son asked for CA and got MISS My Son got a week between A school and Combat training I think because there are otheres they are waiting for to join them for the training.
  • Seabee Mom Doris

My daughter is waiting to go to bootcamo in september she is then going to go to Port Hueneme.. Are there many girl seabees anyone know?
  • Travis' Mom Cindy Ship11/Div212

I'm new and not familiar with these types of networks. I have a son going to Great Lakes 4/15/10 and then straight to Port Humene (sp). Anyone got a son/daughter going at those times?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Newcomers to 133 leaving late this week to join the others....please keep them in your prayers.
  • Kelleypen

Son leaves for Guam next month. His baby's due in July. Anyone had any experience with their Seabees using Standby-A transport during leaves?
  • Kelleypen

hi Joanne... no his family stays in Gulfport
  • Kelleypen

He'll get a leave once the baby is born, but it doesn't pay for air fare. Guam is one pricey ticket. That's why I was wondering about Standby A flight. (Standing by for available seats on military planes)
  • Kelleypen

I think it's from 6 mos to 9 mos, and since his last 6 mos was 7, son is guessing this 9 mos is going to be 10.
  • Barbara C

Hi everyone, My Seabee says his coming deployment will be for 10 months. He expected to see the world but he can't seem to get deployed outside of the US. He is heading for Guam. He went to GTMO but since they couldn't leave the base he doesn't feel like he has been to a foreign country.
