Good morning everyone! I haven't talked to my son for a couple of days, but he was supposed to have started Aschool yesterday. i sent him a message earlier to call me tonight to fill me in. I just really wish we couldgo out to Cali to see him for his bday the end of Nov. it'll be his first bday away from home :( or even for his Aschool graduation, but unfortunately, work will be picking up right after Thanksgiving and won't slow down until after April. so no trips to Cali in my future :(
Hope you all have a great day!
btw....my hubby did Army basic at Lost in the Woods...lol

At our PIR meet and greet I meet a lady from MI whose daughter was EO going to FLW.
  • Proud Mama of Sailor Courtney

Hello to all! My daughter is currently in bootcamp. Her PIR date is 10/29/10..She is a Grad & Go and will be attending her "A" school at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Does anyone else have a child who will be or is currently at the Fort?
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Can anybody tell me if there is a support site for the u.s army moms? I have a friend who's son is heading to afghanistan and I would like to help her out with this. I know how well this works for me so I want to extend my hand. Thanks!
  • LZ27

Hi all, My son is at Port H for CEC school and then off to Ft Worth Texas. He is one of those who thinks if he thinks, sees, or experiences something everyone knows what is going on. In other words I don't get much info from him. What is Ft worth like? Proud to be a Seabee Mom, had lots of pracitice as a Seabee daughter (MCB 13)
  • mom2nw

wow, Sharon. Prayers for your son's speedy recovery. You're right, there is no limit to our prayers! Stay strong
  • julieb

Good Morning, my daughter just left GL and is know at Fort Lost in the woods. I'm looking for other Seabee daughters. Mine is struggling right now and I could use some words of wisdom. Thanks!
  • ronbri22

Thank You Ladies for all the feed back on army mom support! That helps alot. Sharon keep us updated and we will keep the prayers coming. God keep our troops safe and strong, always surround them all. Amen.
  • Tobianne

julieb- my daughter is in TX at Sheppard AFB for her A-school. How is she struggling? Is she homesick< or just lost on the base not knowing where anything is at? That is my girls problem. She has asked so many people where the chapel is and "IDK" is the answer she gets. Also if it is far away on the base until phase up, they have to have a buddy. My daughter had watch (that someone else cried about so she was stuck with it) and missed the phase up test yesterday, the first time she was SIQ. Tomorrow she will take this and can move on base alone I think.
When they are far away even with a bit more freedom, we still worry like crazy. Hopefully she has a room mate that helps her adjust, she should see folks from her Div. if not her PIR group.
  • mom2nw

Thank you to to the kind soul with the 630 area code that took pity on my son at FLW and lent him their cell phone to message me with his address!
  • SeabeeWife20

Hi ladies. I am planning a big surprise gift for my husband for Christmas. I am taking him skydiving. The only thing I'm worried about is chits. Does anyone know if they need chits for extracurricular activities that may be "dangerous". If so, who can I talk to about it and how far in advance would I need to get him to fill it out. I am trying to keep it a secret as long as possible, so if I do have to get one, I want to wait until the last possible minute! Thanks for your help in advance :D
  • Jaz04

Hi everyone, I haven't been on for a while since I was busy driving to Gulfport to pick up my Seabee. So happy to have him home.
  • cindyrb

Kym, let me know how this works. Do they ship them right away to Gulfport and then come home? I understand they have to buy their air ticket to come home. We wondered if he left from TX or MS to come home and shipped their stuff to the next place so its their when he returns. Mine graduates on 11/19. Congrats and enjoy your Seabee!
  • LZ27

I just learned my Seabee got "the boot"! So now for each social event he will have his "date" ..."the boot". Until he leaves Pt H he will have his boot. I imagine when he gets to his next base in Texas in Dec he will get a new boot!
  • mom2nw

Joanne: Prayers going to out to your and your girl..Godspeed.
LZ27...I'm pretty new to this...what's "the boot"??
  • LZ27

Not real sure cuz my Seabee is not very forthcoming with anything. My seabee dad didn't know either. So, what I know is any jr officer in acompany get to carry "the boot". It is a real boot, some are modified with handles etc. It pretty much states they are the jr office (my son is an ensign). He gets the priviledge of being a gofer for more senior officers at social events and anywhere else needed. The boot stays with the company, so where ever he goes he may/most likely will get a new boot. Since he is a newly commissioned ensign he will be carrying the boot for a while! Just part of Navy tradations. Can't wait to see pics of where the boot travels!
  • Kelleypen

Hugs to you, Debbie... My son has been deployed since May and won't be home until spring.
  • Jmarie46

Hi - my son just graduated and is now in texas (wichata falls) anyone else have any information as to how it goes from here for a Seabee ??
  • Tobianne

    Jmarie-
My daughter is there right now, should be until Jan 14th. I know they are shutting the base down for Christmas on the 22nd of Dec if that is any help. He will find this out. It seems to be a nice base. When he phases up he can go off base, or can find a buddy and go off base with permission but will be in his NSU's.
She said at first, the Galley was awesome, now she orders out often!!! lol

He will like all the little lizards and spiders that blow in the air.
It was 70 today but tonight it is around 58. He will find it a bit like BC with the PT. They do this a lot. Sea Bees all PT a lot to keep them in shape.

Does he know yet when his classes will start? I thought she had said some were going to have to wait until after the New Year to start as they would be on hold? I can not remember.
1 nice thing is you will talk or text him a lot until his class starts unless he does not have a phone.
  • Twin Sailors Mom

My daughters are heading to Gulfport tonight from BC. It doesn't look like the Gulfport Seabees group gets too many comments so thought I'd post here. I'd like any information I can get!
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Dental dilemma...Tyler's been attached to 133 in Gulfport since Feb 2010...his last dental checkup was in June 2009 in bootcamp...when he went to dental recently to see when his next checkup would be...they told him they would let him know when he needed a checkup...that was 2 months ago....it's been 1 year and 5 months since his last checkup...I thought they provided checkups on a regular basis...any ideas how he could handle this?
  • Jmarie46

    Tobianne -
Thank you for your response...he told me last night that he won't begin class until Nov. 16th now...he was supposed to begin this week. So good to know he will be home for Christmas :) I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to talk about on this site but it's nice to meet you...Not sure where he will be heading after A-School he's a UT
  • Tobianne

Jmarie- I am completely sure that the AF part of the base is shut down, just the Navy I think.

Now also I am hoping that they all get the same break. I know she said that hers would be a bit different. She will get back and shortly leave to go the GP. lol

I can ask her when she calls if he is not able to call much, also he may not know much until class starts. Kayla ran around with UT's when she first got there. Then she started class and just see's the guys at the galley and here and there. They do make many friends.
  • Tobianne

sorry that was suppose to say not completely sure. I know that her friend is AF and he will not be coming home. I think faster than I type!! lol
  • Jmarie46

You are funny! So do I...in fact sometimes I just "think" too much! lol .... I just texted him to see if he needs me to send him anything? He gave me the address last night but it's his first real day so I guess he'll give me more info as he receives it. Thanks Tobianne...what rate of seabee is your daughter? My son wants to try for acb? Amphibious CB? they are in virginia
  • Tobianne

She is a CE. I just sent off the 3rd box to her!!! lol. I said with this one she has to pay for part of it. It is about 30 every time I send her a box of "clothes".... This is stuff she just wants just in case... in case of what!!!
  • Jmarie46

lol... oh well, I'll have to get his cc # to help pay! :)
  • Tobianne

well he is a guy and they tend to not want "Everything"lol. Each time it was almost 30lbs!
  • mom2nw

NitaBee, condolences on the loss of your mom.
  • Tobianne

JeanC- I thought about that, but the largest box is like 14.50, and when my son and I looked at what she wanted, well it would have been 2 of the large boxes and maybe one of the medium. So, really the 30.00 was not bad. (was actually like 27.90) I only asked Kayla to pay like 10.

NitaBee- yes she is a CE. She says she really thinks she is going to like it!
There are only 2 females in her class the other is AF, and she is about 30 and will have a unit to run (she is class leader and always with the teachers) so she really is not even part of the class as Kayla says (5 Navy-18AF) and they let Kayla pretty much play on the machines first!
She says she got to run the "Cherry Picker" and all the guys were upset, then the other big stuff she was on first so they used her as demonstration! She thought at first it was cause the teachers (AF) did not like her, then she realized they keep attention of the guys if a girl is on it!! She says she misses hanging out with her UT buddies. They got pretty close as they were all on hold when they got there and only 1 other CE was there. Then a week before school in came the other 3.
She was happy to report she had passed her second block test yesterday with an 83. I said why 83. I got well mom, well I am always on watch when we set our study group up. She is ends up with someones watch all the time as they know she will not complain! She says I hate when ppl are SIQ.
  • Kelleypen

Big hugs and loves to you NitaBee... I lost my mom on the first day of my son's first deployment. They wouldn't let him go home since he was boarding a flight to Africa when she died. It's a blessing to have your Seabee come home.
  • Jmarie46

So sorry for your loss NitaBee. In my prayers
  • Jmarie46

Tobianne - I asked my son what he wants me to send. He just asked for the camera we just bought him for graduation. Not too much yet....but I wanted to send him some of the books I have written in and the Journal we had everyone write in at his "going away party". He's just waiting now for school to start so it's probably long days....
  • Tobianne

Jmarie- they clean and have watch. It is pretty long and from what I understand pretty boring. They will muster like no other, and at crazy times! Kayla unit just got into trouble.... 5 people can not make it to muster at 6:45A so now they muster at 6:30A. She was not happy. lol She says I am on time always. It is the same 2 guys. I think the are also room mates!! Is it any wonder.....I do like how they do not just punish 1 it is all of them. I think they should all give each other a wake-up call.
  • cindyrb

Hello ladies, haven't been here in a while. Got a ? though. My son will be graduating in about 15 days. He says he hasn't heard anything about where he will be doing combat training yet. Is this possible? He's at Sheppard now. He's suppose to get 10 days before he reports to wherever. Will he come home first? Is this normal? Has anyone been in the dark about this process. Any info would be helpful....
  • cindyrb

Kym, when did he get his orders or how far ahead? Does he know where he goes after combat training? I'm hoping my son finds out soon so we can plan things ahead. I'm sure you're enjoying having him home!! Thanks, Kym
  • DENISE FROM MICHIGAN

new to this site--does ayone know which base EA are assigned to after A school?
Son is PIR 12-03 the onto FLW
  • Kelleypen

Denise, it depends on which battalion they are assigned to. They won't know that until the end of A school. My son went to A school in Port Hueneme, but was assigned to a battalion based in Gulfport.
  • SeabeeWife20

Hi ladies. Anyone stationed or living in Wichita Falls, TX right now? I'm looking for people in the area to help pass the time!
  • KS Cathy (S7Div.357/PIR11/5)

My son just start A-school to be a mechanic. Anyone in KS with a reserve sailor?
  • Kim

Nitabee - my deepest sympathy to you and your family
  • SeabeeWife20

kymproudmom-I haven't found anyone here yet. I have been pretty busy with seeing my husband and getting settled in from the move, though. I didn't think I would find many people since this is a training base, but I thought I would test my luck. I have seen signs for Lubbock when driving into town. How far is that from Wichita Falls? I'm still getting adjusted to Texas, so I don't really know the area!
  • Tobianne

So happy for you Sharon. You grab a hold of him and hug him tight, you tell him we all think he is a hero. All of our kids are hero's. They go and do a job, this could easily be done here at home. Pride and greed really do not move them to do this, this is a desire to be what our country needs and they have answered that call.
  • DENISE FROM MICHIGAN

sharon-give him a hug for me too! Mine is still in BC--PIR 12-03. Can't even imagine what the first deployment to Afghanistan will be like-along way off for that but I know this site will help just like it does now. It's amazing how we al just adopt each others kids. Happy Veterans day to one and all of our HEROS.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

    Congrats Sharon....enjoy him!
  • mom2nw

Sharon, so happy for you! Tobianne, perfectly said!! God bless our Veterans and active military! (and their---our---families!)
  • Much Trouble

I'm thrilled for you, Sharon...please give him a hug and thank you from me.

Sara...My Seabee will also be returning soon. While I can't wait to actually see him, I will be tickled pink to just know he is safely out of that country. I wonder if our kids are together...
