Your not alone out there! I just wanted to let you know that your posting pulled on my heart. I'm so sorry!!!! cindyrb. I know the waiting alone is hard yet the getting stuck there is even worse. I'm sure you've said all the right things. I know it is really hard on everyone but this really has to be mind over matter. This is a test on so many levels. Us as mothers have to be the positive and tough ones. There will be others who are in the same situation. Be strong for both of you and put the positive in front. Celebration and Family will be there when you can be together!!! The first year is the hardest! He really will be fine maybe he can go to church and even talk with a chaplain. I know this helped my kiddo many times. Have you and your son in my thoughts and prayers.
Hi ladies. My hubby and I finally got our orders. As soon as he is done here at Sheppard AFB we head to Gulfport, MS. He got NMCB 133...any others out there in this one? Also, I thought I would share this website with anyone who has never seen it http://www.seabee.navy.mil/ It gives you a list of all the battalions, tells you where their homeport is, and what they typically do. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!
I hope you and your husband have a wonderful Christmas. You both are truly great folks. I am sure my kiddo thanked you, if not i am gonna have to remind here what manners are. lol
My Seabee is in Guam this Christmas--and his wife and children in Gulfport. If he comes home at the end of March, and get eight months before his next deployment, then he'll miss next Christmas too, won't he?
Tobianne-she definitely did thank us! She's an awesome girl and we had a great time hanging out! I hope you guys have a very Merry Christmas also....I know Kayla is extremely excited to come home and I'm sure you guys are just as excited to have her back for a bit :D
So I am off at 7P to go and get my kiddo. It will be so nice to have her home. Wish I could make time move fast just until I can pick her up. lol
Manda20-
Kayla said Mahhh, she is a super nice girl and she made me pizza! Umm anyone that cooks for my kiddo has just gotten a bestfriend. She is like a starving pup, feed it and it loves you forever!
She said your husband is just like the rest if the guys there, like her brother!
I guess something happened and she now has a bruise on her face and she said "K" was gonna kill him an idiot!!! lol
This makes things a bit easier for a mom, knowing that some one there is looking out for her!! That is why the Seabee Family is so close they watch out for one another. I just get to see now how much.
They are a very tight knit bunch and I'm so glad it's such a great community. I know it makes mom's feel good to know their kids are in a great area of the Navy. It also helps us wives find other wives out there who know exactly what we are going through and can communicate with similar knowledge. I know all wives in the military deal with emotions and such, but the Seabee community really is quite different than other parts of the Navy. I love the military so far and I am so glad my hubby decided to join! I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas :D
Hi everyone its me Nita,, Yeh the name got added to.. it used to be just Nitabee. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas. My son and his wife won't be in NY for Christmas, as they were just here last month for my mom's funeral. But I needed them more last month. My family was together and that's what matters. So now mom is spending her Christmases back with Dad. MAnda. I hope hubby enjoys his time with 133. they are a wonderful group. make sure you join the FRG that 133 has. They are a great group and they have alot of great activities. They have a facebook page too.
Our Seabee (with the grandbaby)arrives home tomorrow from California! Christmas all over again for us!! Hope you all have a very blessed and Happy New Year!
He's a BU - builder. He just got there and I don't think they've actually started classes yet. I was just curious about life there, liberty, schedules, etc. I'd like to plan a visit next month. I guess I'm just impatient. The fact that he has his cell and laptop and can communicate more should make make me chill a little but I'm still impatient. I still feel so in the dark. Thanks for the links, Denise. . . lots of info.
Jessie, I know how you feel and denise is right on the issue. But I so understand the way you feel. Hang in there girl. Once he is settled and some time to get use to the situation you will feel more comfortable. Take it from me, I wrote to my son everyday in bootcamp for two reasons. One to let him know how proud of him I was and two it was therapy for me I guess. He was just happy to have mail everyday but it really did help me and now Im super comfortable that he lets me know what he can. On his recent deployment to afganistan I thought he went only on one or two convoys but he went on alot more. He didnt want to worry me. So just hang in there thats what we are here for as moms to talk and get things off our chest. Good luck I know its tough. Hugs!!!!
I agree... It is so hard to accept that the baby boy I held in my arms and nursed moments after his birth is one of those VERY competent military men that I see on TV and the Internet. But he IS...and I have to remember that. He is an expert at what he does and *pat on my back* I helped him get there. Think of the song "Bridge Over Troubled Water".... "Sail on silver girl (boy) sail on by. Your time has come to shine......Oh if you need a friend, I'm sailing right behind..."
Okay, I usually bawl when I hear that song, but it has become my "theme song" about stepping back. There are times when letting go is the greatest act of love there is, and one of the hardest. Try to forget the beautiful boy he was, look with pride at the wonderful MAN he has become...and tell yourself that you did a fabulous job!!!
Happy New Year to the best Moms in the world. Seabee moms Rock!!!! May every mother out there with a son or daughter serving in our military be safe and always have god by there side and the ones we love. Amen.
I just spoke to my son, he is at port H for A school. he graduates the 14th and just received his orders. he will be stationed in Gulfport. He was hoping to stay in Ca, but he will be closer to home which will make me happy. Anyone here have a son/ daughter from ca , going to Gulfport??
I am praying for you and your son. I know it's hard. My time is coming later but I guess we all have to go through this. Stay strong and leave it in God's hands. How long will he be deployed?
My son is in Gulfport. He wanted to go to CA because he met a girl, but he is closer to home in MS. He is very bored. Been waiting for CB training since Tgiving. Hope he starts soon. He needs more friends to do things with but it's hard. He wants it to get warm so he can go to the beach. Hope your son likes it once he gets there
That is what I am dreading most.... deployment. I know this is the life he chose, but as a mom, well you guys know how I feel. Sometimes I am so proud and other times I am scared to death, but I will learn to deal with it. My prayers are with you and everyone... We are here for each other
Cindyrb, Has your son completed A school yet? My son told me the name of the battallion? he will be with, but I forgot..
kelley, I will keep your son in my thoughts and prayers and hope that #3 will be a long way off. At least in Gulfport I can drive there, not like Ca so I will feel better knowing he is closer... for now.
My first holidays without my son only because he took his 2 weeks when he finished A school. It was hard, but Sykpe really helped. I just kept telling myself that it could be worse and he could have been deployed. It did not help that he gave me "If you loved me you would have come here for Christmas". But we managed. He is waiting for reorganization of 7 (he is a BU) which he says will be around the 12th, but is very bored in the meantime. I am glad to hear so many stories of happy Christmas reunions.
For those just starting A school, I went to Gulfport to see my son graduate. It was wonderful because it was a small class (only 10) and very personnel (not like the big div's at PIR). But as stated further back, check with your Seabee to see what they are allowed at graduation.
I can defintely relate to a great deal of the mothers here. I have two sons and both keep me hopping. Missing them is what I say I do best! Recently I was able to see one of my sons and I never wanted to let him go, but this is the life he has chosen and I love them both no matter. The holidays are never easy but as long as I know they are ok that is what's important! Knowing there are so many that care really helps!
kym, I will be thinking of you and praying for your sons safe return . You will stay strong for him because you have to, that is who we are and what we do. We will be here with strong shoulders if you need us. We can all help comfort each other.
Oh going to a new base... this was scary for my kiddo. Now she says why was I scared! They all love and care and worry about each other. They are a family. She is a lucky one, she will meet up in GP with her friends for combat training, and then off to PH with some great friends as well.
Oh Denise, I am right there with you girl. I know with what Kayla has gone through and what will have to be done once she gets to CA, she will also not let them boot her either. Hers is not the same thing, and they have told her, you do not need to have a jaw perform to be in the Navy. They do however want her out of the pain she is in and to be able to eat normally!
I understand where he is at (well as well as a mom can), I know my kiddo has sworn off AF docs and says she will not have anyone but the Navy docs check her anymore. Maybe that is not a good thing. She may be in for a surprise.
Good Luck to Michael. We are all pulling for him, you can be sure of that.
Good morning all- sad day, the body of the US Sailor has been found. I have been crying since reading this. Prayers going to the family and of course the shipmates who worked and loved her also.
On a lighter note, my kiddo graduates A-school today. Thinking by the end of the week she will be in GP.
Today I worry about her and all of our "Dirt Sailors" (as my kiddo calls them!) as well as everyone of our Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, Airmen, and the many that also defend our country.
My prayers to family and friends of the Sailor....
My son graduates A-school today as well...and then also, to GP. I'm very proud of him, but with every advancement in his training comes heightened worry.
Kayla told me in the CQ room there at Sheppard, a sign hangs saying something about them being soldiers.... UMMMMM WHAT! lol
She said the AF likes to call them DB Seabees. (dirt bag) lol.
They often get the name sandbees/sand Sailors, also I am told (from some retired military), all who have spoken to me speak so highly and so well of the USN Seabee's.
They are an elite group as I have been told and are a force not to mess with if push comes to shove.
I am a proud momma of a Seabee today and all the rest of my life.
Denise, I'm a new Seabee mom & I believe my son is all of those things & more that you listed below. His PIR is 2-11 & he can't wait to get to GulfPort to start his life as a Seabee. I'm excited to learn more about this group of "sailors", lol
Denise, hate to say it but he already told me once he hits Gulfport he is a Seabee. Do you know if they can check into A school with a cell phone? His last letter said he can't
Tobianne, you are so right! family sure does fit! My son arrived in gulfport saturday after grad A school in Port H. I spoke to him last night and he said he was at a "friends house" playing video games.Didn't take him long at all! Now he is waiting for combat training to begin, but he will be in Gulfport for the next 2 years. He can't wait to get his motorcycle moved there, although I would be happy if it stayed in my garage. I hate the dang thing....
hotflashes- I know that my kiddo told me, some of the wives and GF have already been informed that many a night they will have "family" for dinner and to be prepared! lol
I have expressed to my kid to make sure she comes bearing gifts! (food, dessert, and soda(pop)). This is the best thing that they are all so close. Many new friends will be made in the next 30 days, some are as you said coming from different bases and may not be stationed together. No less family for sure.
I am sure at some point our Seabee's will meet and become friends, my kiddo knows no strangers! lol She is a friendly girl. She will meet up with her upperclass friends and I am sure they have made some new buddies also.
Ladies we are all linked, not just by the Navy itself (big Navy) but by the smaller and much more friendly Seabee Units that our loved ones are a part of.
Stacey- just call him a "Seabee" from the start! lol They know they are Sailors, however they have earned the right to have that name as a second and the Seabee first.
Mom of4, my son went to port H for A school. he is a CM. Now he is in gulfport for combat training, however his orders are for him to be stationed there in Gulf port for 2 years. They can be sent anywhere.
Denise, he has already had a few wipeouts on that dang bike. once on my birthday! But he keeps fixing it and riding again. UGH! I guess they really are Badasses.
Momof4- I am almost 100% positive, every Seabee goes to GP for combat training. Not sure if there is any other place for them to be trained for this.
This is a vital part of what they do. All of our Seabee's will be trained in how to protect themselves, rest assured though, They most always have the Marines at their side if in a area of possible danger. This is why the motto is...
"We Build" "We Fight".
Look up some photo's of the Seabee's (you tube has some great ones) you will see them in the sand box with the guns.
I have also seen some pics (can not find the site anymore) of them doing some humanitarian work, guns were also showed. Just depends on the area and what is needed. We would never want to send our Bee's out with no ability to defend themselves.
He also may not have mentioned this as it is a very short time they are there for training. Unless they as HotFlashes Bee will be stationed there.
