Yes and welcome back to the "40" this is who Kay is going to be attaching to.
  • SeabeeWife20

Tobianne- It wasn't a problem at all. I am going to miss her very much. I promised her I would come visit as soon as I could. I'm also trying to get her to have a positive attitude about California. Everything is better when you have a smile and good attitude! It was a very emotional goodbye for all of us. We sure do love her. But it definitely isn't goodbye, like you said, just see you soon.

Hello again, not trying to be a pain in the ass, but here I go again....  I tried asking my "A" school mom's group but didn't get a reply. My son is in student holding. I overnighted all his electronics Monday and they did arrive Tuesday mid afternoon. Will he have to earn the privilege of using them? and when will he be allowed to use them? What do they do in Gulfport when they are in holding? How long can holding be for? Do they have a routine? Does he get free time on nights or just weekend. Sorry, but I'm a new Navy Momma and thought I would have heard from him more. Thank you all!
  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

Thank you very much Denise. I can't stand the waiting without word, but I appreciate your help.
  • cindyrb

    Hi Ann Marie,

I can tell you that my son got to GP the day after Thksgiving and had to wait 3 months for CB school.  He says he sat alot. Got to go to a retirement home to talk to older people, sometimes helped guys build or wire something. He was very bored.  I have had the worse luck with that post office. He would only get his pkgs and sometimes mail. Some mail was sent back and pkgs took weeks to get. Don't know if he just couldn't get there or what.  It always seems. He's been his battalion for two weeks and I still don't have an address. I get very frustrated with it all. I don't know if it's him or the P.O. He still had watch during this time of waiting. I wish I was a fly on the wall to figure this out.  Good Luck!!

  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

Thank you Cindy! N4M has been a blessing, but got to tell you the waiting sucks!!! At least in boot camp I knew no news was good news. Oh well.

  • ktssong

I am so new to this.  My son is in A Training for Construction Mechanic.  So is he stationed at A training just for 13 weeks and then deployed somewhere from there?  I'm so worried that I'll lose track of where he is. I don't want that to happen. Also, how often are parents staying in touch by phone; once a week---to not seem smothering or overprotective but at the same time I never know where he will be next that I may not be able to speak at all.  Anyone have good sound advice for a new comer?
  • Tobianne

ktssong- my daughter just got to her first duty station. I will say the first 2 weeks of A-school (she was on hold) we spoke about 2-5 times a day as well as text back and forth. After school started it dwindled, maybe called 2 times a week, but text everyday. Then when she got to GP for ECS school same thing. Now she is at PH, she calls about once a day, unless she needs advice. We text everyday.

Now remember she is also a girl and they "love: the phone and to text.

I have gone a week without hearing from her (I call it that since I may get a one word text or a quick "I love you momma"), but she always keeps me up to date on how she is doing.

Things are all new to him, he is getting his bearings and meeting new friends. Hang on, it will settle and a routine should evolve for you.

  • Momofahousefull

Hi all - my son arrived in GP about a week ago. He is on hold for CBs. Not where we thought he was heading, but grateful that he is where he is.
  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

Momofahousefull. My son arrived in GP on Sat and is in holding also. He said it stinks, they just sit around all day. I'm kind of disappointed, but at least they gave him his electronics today. Heard they could be in holding for up to 6 weeks. :(
  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

Thank you Denise, I told my son about volunteering. Now lets just see if he listens to me! lol
  • NitaSewBee

Hi everyone. An-MArie, I see you found your way over here, and befoe I even mentioned it to you. That is great. Glad you are here. I probably won't be in here much, but I will try to check in here a few times a week. My son is on deployment  in JApan. He's doing okay. I haven't spoke to him as yet, but I do know he is safe. and that's is wonderful news. I hope everyone is doing well.
  • ktssong

Denise----Thank you,  That is very encouraging news and helps me feel alot better.  I heard from him yesterday and he told me it was ok to call whenever I needed that he would always return the call if he doesn't answer. Every once in a while there are moments when you just want to hear their voice.  He said not to worry it was ok to call him.  I was afraid they would make fun of him for his mom calling.  But he said no. That there are alot of much younger guys in than he is and they all talk to their moms.  It made me feel very good that the respect for their moms runs very high amongst these guys.  Very reassuring as a new Navy mom.
  • Tobianne

ktssong- when my daughter talks to me, all of the friends around, also speak on the phone to me. They all respect their mothers, even if they were not born to them.

Not sure if I mentioned in this group, Kay got her first "Health and comfort" visit!

She said it is nice to know base police are there, however she said it scared the heck out of her. They banged real hard on her door! Had the dog and ask if they could check her room... they would even if she said no.  She said it was hard not to want to love on the dog, she misses hers bad. She knows he is doing a job also and is actually military personnel also. Being silly I said what did they find.... her answer was, a very sleepy seabee in her jammies.  She said I felt awkward since it was 9:30 P. Most of the dorm was still out for the evening.

She is an East Coast girl. She use to be able to hang, but give her a 3 hour time difference and it has thrown her all out of whack. She does not get up too early though.

  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

My son texted me this morning to tell me he started school today. Wow only 1 week wait! Thank God, he was going stir crazy.
  • Momofahousefull

Ann-Marie - our sons must be in the same class; mine started yesterday also.
  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

    Momofahousefull

That's cool! PM me if you want and I will give you his name. He wasn't thrilled last night, he was doing math. lol

  • NitaSewBee

Anne-Marie, I didn't realize you have a Seabee. Wow  Another upstate New yorker. Wait a minute, now I remember, I told you to check out this group, but you already had. Well my guy is  doing good  in Japan, from what i saw on Facebook, they are safe and  doing great things over there.
  • Victoria Steven's Mom

Well my son is at a seabee dance tonight i hope he has fun and i will be waiting for his call on sunday afternoon to see how it was for him
  • Navy-Girlfriend32

My boyfriend Is going to A school in Fort Leonard Wood can anyone give me some info about it or about the rules or anything it seems like I can't find anyone.
  • Jaz04

Denise, I love all the advice you give.  It sure has been helpful.  My son just did some work with a group of pre-schoolers.  He says now he knows why I liked doing daycare when he was young.  He loved it.

I am getting pretty excited about my trip south.  Only 3 weeks away.  Bad thing is, I will have to dig in my closet to see if my summer clothes fit.  I have been adviced by my son not to bring too much warm stuff (we are from MI), sun burns are already starting down there.

  • Navy-Girlfriend32

    Thank you so much!!
  • Navy-Girlfriend32

    Thanks :)
  • NitaSewBee

Jean C. I have no idea what you are talking about. Yes i know you are a 133 mom. you are also on the Japan Mom group too. My son is  up north . I do wonder if he was around  for the  water fight. knowing my son, he likes fun stuff like that.. well when he was a kid , he did, we  used to have water gun fights during the summer
  • Jaz04

How has everyone been?  It has been quite quiet here lately.  Has anyone talked to their Seabee to see how the ball went Saturday?  Denise, I am so disappointed.  I just found out today that your son (and DIL) will not be around while I am down there to visit.
  • Navy-Girlfriend32

Waiting on a second letter and possibly a phone call this week.

  • mom2nw

yipee, Kym.  I'm heading to Gulfport on Wednesday...lotta driving for a weekend, but that's okay!
  • Jaz04

yep mom2nw, we go the distance for your military.  I hope you have safe travels and enjoy that time there.  I hear we will all have beautiful weather while there.  Denise we plan on arriving there on the 20th and leaving the 27th.  Taking a couple of days to sightsee on the way there and back.
  • Jaz04

Denise - that is awesome that they are coming home.  I didn't know they had a kid, just the dogs.  Steven says they can't come home in June because of classes.  Maybe it is because of different ranks.

I am sorry that I will miss meeting your son.  I will make sure to go see Jackie.  Maybe I will have to have her over to his place when I make dinner since he is   always being invited over there.  Steven likes Jackie.  He says he gets picked on a lot whenever he goes over there and that really helps him feel at home.

  • Jaz04

Denise, that may have to be the night we have dinner then.  I am anxious to meet them.  Shoot, I am just anxious to get out of MI and into some warmer weather.
  • sherrys (Alumni-Ship 02 Div 911)

Okay SeaBee Moms ... Is there a web or facebook site where pics are posted of those graduating with honors from Gulfport?  My daughter will be graduating tomorrow morning [Top of her class!!! "Turbo Crow"??] and unfortunately, I will not be there for the ceremony ... I am sooooo bummed right now! :'(  I know the command at Great Lakes has a FB page and posts pics of the ceremony, but haven't been able to find any for Gulfport.  Any help is so very much appreciated!  Thanks much my Seabee family!  ;o)
  • sherrys (Alumni-Ship 02 Div 911)

Thanks very much, everyone!  The hunt for pics is still underway, but more importantly, my girl is on her way home!  Can hardly wait to pick her up at the airport later tonight!!
  • sherrys (Alumni-Ship 02 Div 911)

God is good! ... had to share this story with you all!

I had a last minute thought to have a "Welcome Home" banner printed for the house (why I hadn't thought of this sooner, I could not tell you! LOL!)... I called our local Kinkos.  The person who answered the phone is a young man who has been in the Navy for 13 years now.  He went reserve status a few years back, but is now ready to go back to fully enlisted status.  Well... he is a SeaBee himself, and had also graduated A-school top of his class!  He knew exactly what I was talking about ("Triple Crow") as that too was his accomplishment!  Since my day is full of meetings at work, he did me the favor of creating the banner for me, with a SeaBee pic and the Navy emblem!!!  Wow!  Fantastic job!  I am so grateful!  ;o)

  • ronbri22

Hi ladies, I was wondering if anybody knows of that airport where our troops land and there are volunteers waiting to greet them. Its usually the first place they land when they come stateside from deployment. There is a website for this and they take pics of all our sons and daughters that come through there. Help!!
  • ronbri22

Oh and it somewhere on the eastcoast. If that helps.
  • Much Trouble

Are you speaking of the Maine Greeters?  This is their website...

  • ronbri22

Thank you so much that was it. Thanks again Much Trouble.
  • ronbri22

I agree TandV. My son deploys soon and it makes me feel good knowing other

people support him in what he does.

  • SeabeeWife20

Well, I am going through my first deployment. I have to say I am doing okay for right now, but it's still REALLY fresh. I am going through my adjustment period....which means lots of tears and moodiness. Thankfully I have a great support group and they understand my craziness. I know that I can get through this and my husband is out doing his job...making America, me, and my family proud :D I hope everyone is doing well!
  • ktssong

I want to travel to PH and see my son and wondered if anyone knew the closest airport to that base and the most reasonable way to get from the airport to the area near the base for lodging?

  • Jaz04

Kym, congrats and let those tears fall.  We are here.

On a happier note, I am headed to Gulfport starting tomorrow to see my son.  I feel like such a whimp that it bothers me I haven't seen him (except the few Skype sessions) in 6 months.  Lots of hugs and smiles come Wednesday night.  I will make sure to give hugs those that want them while I am there.  They deserve it.  Have a great Easter everyone.  I will try to get on and let you know how it is going down there.

  • cindyrb

So glad you had a good time with your son, Kym.  I'm going to go see mine in Gulfport this weekend. Friday is his birthday, so it will be nice. We are going over to Fl for a couple of days, then bring him back. Then hopefully he will get leave after that and come home before being deployed.

Jaz, are you staying in Gulfport? Have you been there before? How long are you going to be there?

  • Jaz04

Cindyrb, we are going to be Wednesday and leave the following Wednesday. And yes in Gulfport. This is my second trip but the first time was only a day long.
Denise I will definitely pass along the hugs.
  • StaceyinTX

Hi ladies I'm heading to GP in the am.  My son is finishing  with A school, he is a SW in the reserves. So I get to bring him back to TX I'm hoping for a long time.
  • ktssong

Thank you ladies. I am trying to figure all this out.  He graduates June 9 and so April is slipping through our fingers quickly.  His girlfriend is going this coming week for his birthday and then me in June.  We are trying to figure out the best travel plans to keep costs down so I will look into all of these suggestions.  Thank you.  I thought the Base would have a website that would tell me airports but Im lost.
  • Joanie Tyler's Mom(133 Bees)

Some of the 133 in Guam are not getting packages and mail...some are getting their mail. Ty says they get a mail delivery 2 times a month...he's not getting letters and has only received 1 package (no electronics) we sent....2 packages (computer and camera) and 7 letters have gone astray since March 7th...Anyone else experiencing this? Ombudsman say there having a problem with Guam mail this deployment.
  • SeabeeWife20

Ladies, I don't know if any of you watch Coming Home, but let me just say this is one of the best shows on TV! I cry like a baby every time I watch it. It's great therapy for me because it shows me there is a light at the end of this long deployment tunnel. I hope you all have had a Happy Easter!
  • Navy-Girlfriend32

I love that show. I cry everytime lol.
  • ktssong

Just talked to my son tonight.  He had watch this morning so early that he was sleeping when I called to say Happy Easter.  Finally tonight got to talk to him.  I kinda feel like I'm in a dream.  This is all so new to me and my family. I'm just not used to not having him at all the holiday family gatherings.  It's just not the same but I'm greatly at ease when I just get to speak to him on the holidays.  It's nice to hear his voice.  I will ever be grateful to his recruiting officer for giving me the navyformoms website because days like today help me when I get on the website and realize I'm surrounded by moms and dads and wives and siblings that all are going through the same thing and then I feel so much stronger.   I hope all of you had a nice Easter and God Bless Our sons and daughters and all our loved ones serving.
  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

I hate holidays now. Not the same at all.
