Ya. I forgot, I don't think they do BS on Wednesday. You should get a call today, regardless. I hate the waiting!
The Ship 5 FB group is amazing!
  • Shanny's mom

    Thanks navygirlsmom! You're awesome!
  • SandiCW

Shanny's Mom - They always say on here "no news is good news." They would have given her a call to let you know she was being sent to SEPS if that happened, but they might not have let her make a call to let you know she passed. Hopefully your next call will be good news.

  • Shanny's mom

Thanks so much SandiCW...the encouragement helps!
  • Ship 5 SEPS :(

My daughter called yesterday saying she was being separated because they found evidence of asthma in her medical history which is the tricare billing. She had childhood asthma over 7 years ago (she's 20) all other inhaler prescriptions were for bronchitis. The pediatrician has all the records ready to send to the Navy but she has to fax a medical release form so they can send it where it needs to go. I don't know how they can move her to Ship 5 based on prescription claims without validating the diagnosis and checking with the dr. She thought she'd be able to call again today but so far nothing. She's not one to stand up for herself especially being a r suit and she doesn't know I have the medical info she can use to get back with the other recruits. I've left a message with legal but no response! This is so frustrating!
  • diannep

Momofamermaid:  Has she signed the form allowing you to contact Legal, etc?  Because otherwise, they will only talk to her.  Hopefully will sign this form soon if she hasn't already.  If she calls, be sure to remind her of this.

Sadly, this happens alot.  Asthma in any branch of the military is disqualifying.  Since she hasn't had an attack since she was 13, which could mean she "outgrew it" (which is what I did), you would think that they would consider this.  Hopefully if she has shown no signs of it in Bootcamp and if the dr concurs that this is no longer an issue for her and the Navy doctors concur, she will be allowed to stay.

Good Luck....I know it is not an easy journey for either of you.

  • Retiree

My son will find out 5/13 whether he will be separated due to a medical issue with his ear. He had an ear tube that had to be removed in order to get through MEPS. Now he has fluid in the ear and indicated that the Navy may replace the tube. Does anyone know whether you can stay in the Navy with an ear tube? His ear functions fine with the tube in so I'm not sure why it had to be removed. Can he classify for any jobs?
  • Retiree

Can someone please provide the mailing address for sailors moved to Ship 05. I would like to get a letter off today and my sailor moved yesterday.

My son was moved on the 20th.  When he called me I did not react in the best way.  It is due to an issue that he has had before and can be aggravated by cold weather.  I have not heard from him since.  I do know that he said he had talked with the Chaplin.  He did cry with me on the phone.  They have him on modified duty and said he can re-enlist in a year.  Would it be acceptable for me to call and ask for him to call me?  I know he is probably upset with me but I want him to know that I am here for him and make sure he handles the legal issue correctly.  Advice would be appreciated.

  • redshewmn

proudTnMom...My son was separated this last week.....he sees legal this week to reappear if possible.....your son should give navy a waiver so you can talk to someone to help......it is kinda complicated......
  • Hiphiphooyah

My husband was separated last week also, on Wednesday. He told me to expect a call on thursday or at latest this weekend. I am still waiting on the call, and the phone number listed for RTC legal had no answer and their mailbox was full. This is so terribly frustrating as I was so excited that his PIR date was quickly approaching. Now we seem to be at a standstill. I reminded my husband that God's timing is perfect, and He has not forgotten us. Still very hard to be positive when answers are few. You are not alone!
  • lemonelephant

Hiphiphooyah, I left info on SEPS on your My Page.

  • redshewmn

Hiphiphoorah.....now what....my boys in ship A also......guess we need to stop the flights scheduled....
  • lemonelephant

redshewmn, I left info on your My Page also. Yes, since your recruit is in SEPS, then you need to cancel plans for PIR since that will not happen--at least not as previously scheduled. Waivers and appeals are sometimes granted in SEPS, but it is a long and difficult process.

  • Hiphiphooyah

Thank you. I received word on Tuesday that my husband was able to get a waiver and it passed. He is unable to do the job his contract specified, but he was able to get a new contract for a different job. Keep the faith! I am praying for your SRs and your families. I know the Lord has plans for each of them, my husband's story is a testament to that!

  • Birgitta

I think I am going to go crazy with waiting...  My son's PIR was this past Friday at which time he told me that he was moved to Ship 5 for a medical hold.  Apparently he needed an iron level of 40 and tested at only a 39.5.  after having been taken to the hospital for testing and medical clearance 4 weeks ago, he is still awaiting clearance from Pensacola so he can go to A School.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can maintain my sanity in all of this?  my son, thankfully, is ok or at least acts ok, with remaining in Great Lakes and simply hanging out with some of the other kids...  Why would it take more than a month to clear someone after a dr approves his iron level???

  • redshewmn

Birgitta....:go to Facebook and search for Ship 5 and they will give you lots of help and info......usually takes a few weeks.....my boy is repealed and has been on ship 5 for 2 weeks......the dr tried to say mine had some mental issue so you fight for your rights....there is 2 diff groups for ship 5
  • redshewmn

    I forgot...it's Ship 5 -SEPS
  • lemonelephant

Birgitta, your now Sailor is now in the THU, which is very different from what most of those you will find here are familiar with since most here have a recruit who is in the process of being separated and sent home. There is no group for the THU since the reasons for being there are as varied as the Sailors who are there. I left some info on your My Page.

Just keep being supportive and know that he will head to "A" School when his levels are up no matter how long that takes. Even if the doctor has declared him FFD, he still must meet the required level for service, which may be related to his rating. He can volunteer to help with various things and that will help him to pass the time and he is able to have some Liberty and is able to call you when he is not on duty.

  • Birgitta

Thank you all and best of luck to your Sailors!

  • lemonelephant

movielover, it can be any day of the week depending on when the then former recruit is processed out. You should receive notice of when it will be.

  • JTNavyMom

Oops! I am new to this and sent this as a message to all instead of posting here. Sorry.

My son arrived at boot camp on Tuesday June 6, 2017. He called me Monday night and told me he had been moved to Ship 5 for separation. He said that they took a 300+ question test and based on the results they say he has ADHD. What? This totally took me by surprise. He said they advised him that he could appeal it or go home, see a doctor and see if he really does, get a job and in 6 months and can go back through MEPS. I have spoken to his recruiter and he thought this was strange too. I found this group through the Navy Moms page and was glad to see that he is not the only one, and I am not the only mom taken back by this. He said it would be 2-4 weeks before he will know when he can come home. He said it's not a dishonorable discharge, they called it an Administrative Separation. Do not know the code at this time. Will ask if he does when he calls again. He said he still wants to be in the Navy but would rather come home and do what they said then to stay and appeal it, because there is a guy there that has been in the appeal process for a year.

  • JTNavyMom

Ter-Bear; or any one else as well, do you know anything about Bravo and Alpha on Ship 5. And what the best way to address the envelope to get to them. The to ship 5 page has you use SR Last name, first initial, middle initial and then the RTC and address.
  • lemonelephant

JTNavyMom, Alpha (A) and Bravo (B) designate which compartment on Ship 5 your recruit is in. You do not need to include that in the address. The address is:

    SR LAST NAME, FIRST NAME

SHIP #5 SEPS MALE or FEMALE

    3610 ILLINOIS STREET

    GREAT LAKES, IL 60088-3118

I left additional info for you on your My Page.

  • Jen

If anyone has any questions about ship 5 SEPS, feel free to email me. Or send me a message. There is an amazing group of support. Unlike no other. Truly helpful. Some have appealed and won. Our SR was through the appeal process. Let me know if I can help.
  • Antsmom

My son has been at SEPS for one week now, his first weekend there. He describes it as one step above prison (he imagines) and because the majority of the  group is undisciplined the rest lose their privileges. No books, tv, phone calls, or recreation. What else are they supposed to do to  stay sane? I'm upset but praying for his strength through this trying time and for God to place his hand on my son.

  • Antsmom

My son's girlfriend just received the form letter informing us of his impending graduation PIR, for 11 Aug. This is torture and heartbreaking.

  • 2CleanorNot2

We just got the call on Monday, SoILMom. It hurts. So much. It also hurts - not knowing, nothing.

  • 2CleanorNot2

Thanks for the suggestions - I went on there and have been accepted to the groups, SoILMom. Very helpful!

  • JB

My son was moved to this ship also. Dx with ptsd..... due to a recent hurricane. We had no damage what so ever and not only that we are not even from that city but leave around it. This is so wrong. What to do now. His heart was set for navy...
  • Jen

If anyone wants to email me. Motiveswithjen@gmail.com the one ship 5 Seps group has been moved to a secret group. One can only be added through a current member now. There is also another unsearchable group due to secret settings. I am willing to offer any support. Email me. Best wishes. Your kids can appeal their cases on some of these cases.
  • BigMosMom

My son was sep'd on 11/29/17 and came home 12/22/17 due to medical reasons.  He is STILL fighting pneumonia that he had for nearly 3 weeks at SEPS.  Norovirus ran rampant through the entire campus while he was there.  They took away the "buffet items" to reduce the chances of spreading it further, thus, taking away the healthier food options like the salad bar, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. leaving nothing but gravy-laden, fattening food options.  Not exactly an environment to aid in sick SRs healing.

He is completely turned off by anything military now that he is back home.  He was never given a JAG advocate and told by Legal that he would never win an appeal so don't bother doing so.  This backhanded neglect in assisting SRs who voluntarily enlisted with a career in mind is haphazard and neglectful and tarnishes the U.S. Navy reputation for only recruiting the "best in class."  The RDCs in charge took away their tables, chairs, and bathroom stall doors because of a few childish SRs vandalizing antics.

I hope after a couple of months of healing at home and remembering the vision he had for his life in the Navy will align my son with a fresh focus and possibly reenlistment.

These are the facts.  No negative backlash please.  Every case is unique, but one constant is that the Navy did not encourage Ship 5 SRs to use the resources availed to them.  And they held their mails and packages.  My son never received the packages we sent to SEPS and his letters that we wrote to him are coming back in the mail that were mailed over a month ago and also letters telling him his options to appeal and request a JAG advocate.  Only 2 phone calls while in SEPS as well.

    Hi Anne,

My son was recently separated as well. This group doesn't seem be super active currently. I joined a Facebook group recommended by lemonelephant on my wall. It's really active.

    https://m.facebook.com/groups/535221726514465? tsid=0.5434796636246855&source=typeahead

I'm really sorry for what you are going through. It's been tough.

  • Jenny

  • lemonelephant

Anne, I put info for you on your My Page.

  • shoppinmomma

Hi ladies.  So sorry to hear about your SRs being in SEPS.  Mine has been in SEPS for 4 weeks and is expecting her departure date this week.  Just a word of caution about the SEPS group sponsored by the Navy...you are not allowed to speak freely in there.  Comments are often censored and more often than not, deleted if the admins don't agree.  There is an uncensored group here (link below) as well as a secret group.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/Ship5SEPSUncensored/

  • shoppinmomma

Yes, Mr. Pierce is the liaison between you and your SR.  He knows pretty much everything about where they stand in their process.  He is a very good resource.  Feel free to join us at
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/Ship5SEPSUncensored/?ref=bookmarks

  • lemonelephant

BBaggins, the separations process takes 10 to 20 business days. You mentioned a medical condition, so perhaps he must be declared Fit for Travel (FFT) before he can go home. I left info on your My Page.

  • Victoria

I don't understand why they told my son he cannot go back in the navy after he gets better he got 5 stress fractures in boot camp but he can go in one of the other branches after he heals  his recruiter told him not to run for 2 1/2 months before he lefted for boot camp please let me know what you think about it thank you and is there a way around it like a medical clearance

  • lemonelephant

Victoria, he was given a reenlistment code that lets him know his options for reenlistment with the Navy or any other branch. He has to wait at least 6 months and be medically cleared before trying again.

As for the recruiter telling him not to run for 2 1/2 months before he left, that is NOT good advice at all and lack of conditioning prior to shipping is most likely what led to the stress fractures. Recruits need to be ready when they arrive at the RTC so that they will pass the PFA and so they will not be easily injured.

  • JC's Momma

Can anyone give me the contact information for Mr. Pierce?

  • Angella

My son just called me and said he is coming home. He left March 28th and failed the initial run before boot camp. He can re enlist in 6 months. I am afraid he will be to discouraged and humiliated to try again. Any words of encouragement I can give him?
  • Angella

I have decided my whole family is going to join the gym with him, we can all be there to encourage him and challenge him and by the end of the 6 months, we will all be able to pass the run!! Lol.
  • Valtameri

    That's the spirit!

  • spomed

HE CALL AND HAS BEEN SENT TO SEPS

Can anyone tell me what I can send its his bday on April 25. Are they allowed to get packages? or anything

  • NAI MOM

Can someone give me the address for ship 5 and do i have add female to the address
  • shoppinmomma

Nichole, you are welcome to join my FB group.  It is a support group and a place to vent for SEPS families.  I have found some of the information given in this group to be no longer accurate.  Such as the advice given a month ago saying they can't receive packages.  They ABSOLUTELY CAN receive packages!  Please just do a facebook search for Ship 5 SEPS uncensored. You may speak freely in that group and there are so many supportive families in there.
