I will tell you that my Seabee nephew is a reservist and just completed his first weekend since returning from A school and he said the new reports felt a great deal of pressure to join the...Special Forces. He did not and it sounded like it was optional (?)
Yes, they check in within 72 hours. At that point they will tell him what his first weekend is. Joey has been home for four weeks now and just had his first weekend. They mailed him his schedule of weekends for the year. At this point, they have not told him when he is scheduled for his two week duty as of yet.
He was very disappointed in his first weekend, he said they just sat around and talked. Some of the reservists that have been in the program for awhile actually sat there on their laptops or cell phones! After about 5 hours of small talk, they were told if they wanted to play dodgeball or go to the gym ...they could! Sunday they had a uniform inspection and then played dodgeball!
If you son lives 50 miles or more from Tinker - they will pay for his hotel on Friday and Saturday night. Our nephew lives 49.2 miles so he had to drive an hour each way both days. Some of the guys offered that he could stay in their hotel room but they were going on drinking that night and he chose not to stay. He is only 20 and not a party animal. He was disappointed that the weekend was not more physical or combat training.
Perhaps your son will have a different experience when he reports to Tinker (I hope so for many reasons). Our Nick is doing well, he just completed his technical training that he has been in since April and starts his A school tomorrow.
Hi Seabee Moms, just thought I would let you know that we are adopting a group of Seabee Sailors for August and they are stationed in Afganistan and Iraq. If you are interested in writing them or sending a care package, drop me a note or see the group labeled Molly's Adopt a Sailor.
Hey Denise (A Seabee Mom) I was just wondering the same thing! I just joined over the weekend-first post. My sons PIR Is 12-03, then onto A school At FLW for EA. Not sure where after that.
