Good Morning or Afternoon to Everyone.
I am enjoying my 2 days off and will be back on Wednesday. Hope your Monday is going well. Heard from my daughter yesterday. They are back in Port and she is now getting to finely see her home port for the first time.
  • Oneofalot

    Thanks, Blondie.
  • Oneofalot

Good Luck Morena. We will miss you.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Hi guys....I have been pretty busy lately, and I have hung out a little in boot camp moms (what little online time I have had). It is good to be back here. Hope all of you are doing well. Blondie, anna, Morena, Jean...I really need to get caught up...Hugs to all of you.

I got my letter today. My daughter's PIR is 9/24~ :) So excited! I loved seeing her little note at the bottom...it sure helped a lot.

    Chat soon~
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Thanks Blondie~ :) I can already relate to that sentiment...living through others. It is hearing everyone else's story that has really pulled me through. I thank you all so much!

I am going to the graduation...i cannot wait. I will need to wait until my husband's next check before I can book anything though. Sad! But necessary.

    Anyway...have a great day! :)
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Thanks Navy Mom...I kept pretty busy today...work work work. I am finally getting back to navymoms. When I got home, I had a package full of supplies for my daughter's Navy Scrapbook....so I can now busy myself with that. Should be fun.

    sending hugs to moms everywhere~!
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Congrats to you and your daughter:)
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Kyle, Great news! Congratulations to our daughter.

NavyMom, Enjoy your exchange student. We had one from Japan and one from Guatamela. It was great fun. Our son has had several interns from other countries and an exchange student from Spain. The one from Spain has been back to visit a couple of times. Also this son did HS People to People. He really enjoyed that.
  • Anna

    Kyle,
    C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S on your new Sailor ! ! ! ! Are you going to PIR??

    NavyMom,
How exciting to have a foreign exchange student. I've always wanted to do something like that. In fact when we lived in Annapolis I always wanted to be a sponsor family for one or two midshipmen. But then ended up having so many of my own kids in that tiny house we wouldn't have any room. Two at a time can do that to you!!!

    Mel and Eli's Mom,
I'm glad you found kindred moms in the bootcamp group. Glad to have you back here as well. I concur with Blondie - we always like to hear about other moms sailors because it's like hearing from our own. Although my girl has called me several times in the past few days. Her fiance is leaving soon for a deployment and she doesn't like when he isn't around. She never was one to enjoy being alone!!!! So I can expect to hear from her much more often while he is out. By I don't mind one bit - I always enjoy when she calls me!!!! How is your son's bootcamp going?

    Richi's Mom,
Congrats to your daughter also. I'm sure she is glad to be done with all that training and studying and get out to do some real work now!!!! We should see about getting our two girls together out there!!!!!

Hope everyone else is doing well!!!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

    Good morning!

It's interesting ... one can almost sense when my g'daughter's ship is getting ready to pull into port. The chatter on the groups changes and little hints here and there. This morning, I read that the GW pulled into port so now I am hoping for a Skype chat or telephone call. I won't want to go far today!
  • Heather'sproudmom(ship12div.266)

HONEY i'm home!!!! Graduation was the most AMAZING thing EVER! pretty close to giving birth.... LOL :P I need to get ready for work, but i will be back L8R to fill you guys in on the details.

Wade~ My Heart goes out to you... Please know that you're in my thoughts and prayers.... and wishing you a complete recovery. (pain free)

Wishing all you ladies a HAPPY DAY!!!! :D

Good Morning to Everyone. I am back for that short vacation and I wish I had never left. Wow What a work load they have dumped on me.
  • Oneofalot

The problem is that I have all next week off too and last time I took a week off it took me about 4 months to catch up. I don't no if how long this time. They really dumped a lot in here. I can barely move. Yicks!
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

    Good Morning, Moms :)

Hope all is well with everyone! I am slowly catching up with my N4M's reading. Pesky work keeps getting in the way. ;) Other than having a cold, I am hanging in there pretty well! Still havent heard from my SR since "the form letter," but that is to be expected. And I have learned that I do not necessarily like the unexpected. So, no news is good news!

Jean...welcome back! I too always hate to return to work after vacation...too much to get caught back up on.

NavyMom...that seems interesting. I think I will file that away for future reference. I might be interesting to accept a foreign exchange student, but it doesnt work at this time in my life. I will revisit that thought in the future. Be sure to let me know how this experience is for you...so exciting!

Heather - OMGosh!! How exciting! Congratulations, Mom!!

DC - I hope you hear from your sailor soon!! :)

Everyone else - I havent read far enough yet...haha...But I will get. Until then, Sending hugs to Navy Moms everywhere!

    Regards,
    Mary
  • Oneofalot

Melandeli's mom, Hope ;you feel better and that cold goes away fast.

    Thanks Jean! :)

I found out something today that I did not know but wanted to pass on. G.E.I.C.O. (Government Employee Insurance COmpany Organization) gives discounts everytime your sailor (in this case) ranks up. I had to call and get insurance on my daughters car (of course I had to fax them a copy of the POA) and I decided to try the military services choice on the stupid phone index for a quote. He told me they have insured military personnel for more than 56 years and thats how they got started. They were so nice and understanding about being a boot camp mom. *Tears* *kleenex* They also thanked me and her for her service. At E-1 for comprehensive coverage (while her car is in storage) it was $9.00!! (Full coverage is $91.00) Just thought I would share in case someone needed the information.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks. We have GEICO. So they have already did the discount with out letting us know about it. That is why her insurance is so low. Thanks.
  • Cathi

    Your welcome Jean!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Afternoon to Everyone.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks for the update. Keep in touch. We'll miss ya.
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Good afternoon! Yesterday was a busy day, with much accomplished and yet very little to show for it. This afternoon we went shopping (not a favorite activity) so we will have food for dinner.

DH kidded me about looking like a post office since I have a care package for V. and a shipment of pillow cases ready to go. I also have a care package for my Marine almost ready. It is not quite full but I'm not sure what else to put in it. I may stuff some paper in it and send it on off anyway.

Still no phone call, e-mail or Skype. :-(
  • Anna

    morena.
Thanks for keeping us posted!! I'm glad your daughter got back home and is excited about her new journey. I wish her all the very best in her future endevors!!

    Richi's Mom,
Thanks for the info - I will check with my girl. But you need to copy your last post - remove the name and re post it. We don't want to ever give last names on here - it could put our sailors at risk - and it's opsec rules. We just want to keep all our troops safe!!
  • Oneofalot

    Congrats on getting there.
  • Anna

    Jean,
I've been meaning to tell you that I got the mail from you!!! Thank you so much - they are on their way back out to WA to Cath!!!!! I really do appreciate all your help, I really do hope she can incorporate these into her daily work so she can get better soon!!!!
  • Oneofalot

Get to PIR Early so you can get a good sit. Just remember that it is in bleachers so you back will get sore.
  • Oneofalot

Anna, I am glad that it might help. Hope you made a copy for yourself. It really does work for us who are stuck on the computer for the day.
  • Anna

    Kyle,
Glad you made it there ok. I just got a text msg from Jenn - she and two of her friends are on their way to Chicago for an unrelated visit. She said they are stuck in Chicago traffic but the Blue Angeles are there and she's getting a free show!!! Is that close to RTC and are you able to see them also??
  • Anna

    Jean,
Yes - I have a copy for me!!!! Thank you, double!!!!!!
  • oregonmom1 (ship06/Div942pir9/2)

I got a really long letter yesterday, it was the most down she has ever sounded. she has infected blisters again, and was told if she goes back to medical she will she at least be set back 2 weeks and most likely sent home. she said she wanted to stay, and that was hard for her to say because she is so homesick.

She was excited about the Marlinspeak, thing last week, she said the group got it accomplished and she was proud of that. she also was proud of herself for the weapons thing as she is afraid of weapons. .

I am so unbelievable proud of her, and could not love her anymore for the committment she has made. it was a tough day. I just want to be there and encourage her, that's what mom's do.
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

OregonMom, it is so hard when our sailors are down. Please tell your daughter to be careful of the infected blisters. If she is going to try to "tough it out," she definitely wants to be on the lookout for evidence of infection spreading. If it went systemic it would be quite serious. How much longer does she have? I will keep her in my prayers. Many hugs to you!!
  • Anna

    oregonmom,
I so agree with what DC said as well. Stay upbeat with her when you write. I myself remember when Cath would send those letters of doom and gloom and I'd get all worried. Then the next letter comes, and all is well!!! I hope her blisters don't get bad enough to send her back, but if they do just let her know that it's not that big of a deal. I know THEY are made to feel like it's the end of the world to be sent back, but if it's because of medical issues then it's not something she fail at. And don't let her think that!!! I can't see them sending her home for something like that. I know sailors get sick, injured, whatever in bc and they get sent to medical until they get better.
On just a side note here - there is a mom on another group whose daughter got sick in bc and it developed into pnuemonia. She spent over 100 days in bc before she finally got well enough to complete her PFA and have BS!!! She finally graduated!!!
Will be keeping your girl in my prayers. Hugs to you also!!!!!
  • oregonmom1 (ship06/Div942pir9/2)

Thank you mom's. I continue to be upbeat in her letters. I talked with my ex/her dad after I got the letter and he reminded me that she made it through that week, and she is past it now. I pray for her several times daily, thank you for your prayers as well.

she has 20 days left. . I am so excited. I will have her watch her infection
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone!
  • Oneofalot

While I am glad you got to spend time with your daughter. I hope today will be quiet for you. I sort of like Fridays here. It seems (sometimes) very easy going. The weather is even working out. We will finely have summer for the next week or so. Up in the 80 plus. YEAH!. But then the rain will be back. Yuck.
  • Oneofalot

On Fridays, we go out because it is family night. With all the kids moved out except my 2nd olds we make a family night once a week to see everyone. We are going to some barbarque place up north about 20 minutes away. It is ok but I just don't like the drive. Trying to meet my oldest half way this week.
  • Oneofalot

The only thing we miss is my daughter. She usually calls when she is in port. So maybe she will call tonight. The only ones working in our family is my oldest and me and my husband. My 3rd goes to school and my 2nd is still looking for work. He is getting fustrated too.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks, that would be cool. He would be so happy. Right now he is thinking of going to McDonald's but he has done that and was not happy there. He was even promoted to Assit. Manager when he was there. But he really doesn't want to do fast food. He want a really restaurant job. The probable he is running up against is that he helped my mom out for 3 years and there is a 3 year gap in his working.
  • Oneofalot

    Thanks I will.
  • OhioNavyMama

hi everyone...new to navymoms and have a 20yr old daughter that got to basic on august 11th. still crying and got my head in a cloud.
  • Anna

    Hello OhioNavyMama,
Just sent you a pesonal welcome message. Glad to see you here. I certainly understand the tears we shed when our "babies" leave and we suddenly are faced with that loss of communication!!! You will have days when you are strong and so happy for what she is doing, and then someone or something will make you think of her and the tears will flow like a broken water pipe!!!!! Feel free to come here and let us help you - we've all been there and understand. No judgements here!!!! We have another Ohio mom on here also - Blondie. She should be here tomorrow as she only has a computer during the day at her work!! Looking forward to talking to you!!
  • OhioNavyMama

thank you! just read it and sent you a reply!! looking forward to getting to know everyone. we are a career air force family so all this navy stuff is confusing haha
  • OhioNavyMama

Oh Anna...i saw that ur son was an Aviation Ordnanceman...thats what my daughter is going to be as well. What can u tell me about it? Im not real sure exactly what it is haha.
  • Anna

    OhioNavyMama,
Yes, it can get confusing!! There is always something new!! My husband and I are both Navy vets and we have a son and a daughter serving now and our other daughter was just sworn in as an officer candidate until she finishes her last two years of college. Then she'll go off to be a Naval Flight Officer.
  • OhioNavyMama

Anna thats great about your daughter! I was really confused about the whole college thing and rank. Katlyn had a little over 2 yrs of college, but they told her she couldnt get E3 because she was homeschooled and that didnt count as a high school diploma...just dont understand it. kinda feels like all her college credits are being wasted.
  • Anna

    ONM,
Hope you don't mind the shortened name!!!! That's really strange that they didn't recogize her high school education just because she was homeschooled. I thought that was accepted!?? What job is she going for? Would she be interested in finishing her degree and going officer??
  • Anna

    Sorry,
I didn't see your other post! You must have been typing the same time I was!! My son was attached to a fighter/attack squadron in VB his whole 4 years of his first enlistment. They went on two long deployments in the Gulf back when they were doing lots of bombing still in Iraq. He worked long, hot, hot, hot days on the flight deck of the carrier loading bombs on the aircraft for 12 hours straight. I know there are several different levels of AO jobs - you could be in assembly, or the ones who move bombs from inside the ship up to the flight deck, or you can be working on the flight deck. When he wasn't on a carrier they just had practice drops in VA, or they would go out to Fallon, NV and do live ordnance practice out there. I don't know what AOs do if you're not with a squadron. He liked the work but after he got out he realized he couldn't do anything with that skill in the civilian world. Then he went back in the Navy but is now in Intelligence.
  • OhioNavyMama

Blondie-I joined the Ohio group but so far, I haven't found anyone close to me. Im in Athens and most seem to be from up north...quite a drive!

Everyone else-I have been making graphics all morning to keep my mind off of Katlyn being gone her first weekend, so thought I'd share this one with you! Feel free to use it...its transparent and will work on any background :)
