    Kyle Melissa,
How very exciting, and wonderful pictures. I am so excited to be there for my Kristyn. Thank you for the tips and suggestions. Enjoy your Ellie, and Congratulations to her and YOU. GO NAVY!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

KM, what great pictures. Your trip sounds perfect .. well, except for the expensive taxi ride. Good experience for Ellie that time is critical when in the Navy.

I grew up in a Navy family and I had it drilled in me. I am always way early for events. DH is just the opposite. He is lax about time and I am always pushing him to go. Biggest source of discontent but I knew he would be that way before we married so I don't complain ... usually.

Good Evening all!! Haven't had much time to check in. I am currently sitting in a hotel in Milwaukee, WI. Hubby got a job and we will eventually head up to Marquette, MI. If you don't know where that is - - start at the north pole and head south until you get to the edge of the US and that's where we'll be!!!! It's a short assignment which is good and bad Good that we won't have to stay in MI for long since we will be there over the winter, but bad that then we're right back to looking for the next job!!! Oh well - it's a job so I'm not going to complain.
We'll be here in Milwaukee for a week (head office is here) while hubby gets orientation and such then we drive to MI.
Thank God for internet!! I'll still be able to keep in touch with everyone - - if the moose don't get me!!!!!!

    Kyle,
So happy for you!!!! Love those pictures!!!

Good Morning to Everyone. Today is going to be another HOT day in Seattle. We are going to hit in the upper 90's again. What a heat wave we are having. It suppose to come to a end next Monday. That is to bad, back to the rain.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks for sharing your moments with us Kylemelissa
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, I wish we would get back to our regular heat. We up here are not use to the 90's or the high 80's at that matter. Well survive though. In a few months we all will be complaining of how cold it is. That is what gets me through the heat is to think of the cold. lol
  • Oneofalot

I would of said the same thing but this year it seems that is all we had, was fall and spring. Our fall and spring are very wet and ok weather other wise. Summer this year has only shown its head for about a week here and a week there. Then it goes away. Last week we all thought it was fall again.LOL. Now summer has shown its head again.
  • Oneofalot

I heard that it is suppose to be a bad winter this year. I hope we get a little snow here. Last year we got none. I like it a little. Not a lot like a few years ago when my car got stuck in the middle of our road and it let everyone know until my car was unstuck it was not safe to be out in it. LOL. My husbands doing. He got it stuck and could not move it either way. We had to wait for the thaw to move it. IT took about a week.
  • Oneofalot

That is really funny Blondie. We don't get a lot snow here. It makes people go nuts when it does.
  • Oneofalot

Up here in Seattle, no one knows how to drive in the stuff. So it is a nightmare to be out in it. It really doesn't matter if they have plows or not. You get people out there who think they can drive in it and cause more trouble then it is worth.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Good Morning, all. :) I was away over the weekend...had a peaceful weekend with my hubbie. Now it is back to the hard work life! ugh...Anyway...I hope all of you are having better days than I am. Sending you all hugs!

Please note the name change...it is still just me.

    Mary
  • Oneofalot

Hi Mary, I am glad you had a nice peaceful weekend. I will be off this week after today so I hope it will be peaceful. It is like pulling teeth to get days off over here.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, I am. I decided to go do little day hikes somewhere and then on Wednesday I am going to go see Vampires Suck. SO I can laugh a lot.
  • Oneofalot

Mine have buttons on the side that you can barely see. that can change brightness.
  • Anna

Good afternoon everyone!! This has been a strange day for me - - I've never spent a day in a hotel room by myself without going somewhere or doing something!!! Usually when we stay at a hotel it's because we're visiting or sightseeing. I've been doing some reading, lots of watching TV, walked down to the front desk for a newspaper but there weren't any!!

    Blondie,
Sorry to hear about your lighting problem. If you are on the internet try googling the manufacturer of your monitor and do a search on adjusting brightness. That may give you instructions quickly. If the computer has microsoft software on it go to help and do a search on adjusting the brightness. Hope this helps you find an answer soon!!! And on a side note - I'd be real careful using the light switch if she installed lighting herself and now it doesn't work!!!! There could be a live wire touching somewhere!!!!! She sounds like a gem!!!!

    NavyMom,
It was cool here last night in Milwaukee. And there is quite a breeze blowing. It howls around the windows in this room!!!!!!

    Jean,
I have a weather bug on my computer that gives me the current conditions in Silverdale, WA. I can't believe it posted a weather advisory yesterday for extreme heat and it was only 80. To me that's just a nice warm day, but I know for you guys it's out of the ordinary. How warm did it get during the day?? At least Catherine is used to growing up in Georgia so she is used to 100 degree temps!!! Hope it cools down a little but stays nice and sunny for you all out there!!!!
  • Oneofalot

No it was not 80. I wish it would of been. We hit 98 yesterday. That was hot. To day has been much cooler. I think. I have not been outside yet.
  • Anna

Wow - that IS warm. When I said it was 80 that was the temp the little weather bug was giving me at the time. I was early evening so I knew it had to be hotter than that during the day. Plus you are probably much warmer in the city than Catherine is over there on the penisula. Watch your car when you go out to leave for the day - don't burn yourself on seatbelts!!!
  • Oneofalot

Nay this time I put a thing in my window. I have learned. To many sore hands to forget it this morning. Plus this morning it was hot already at 5 in the morning. They say it is suppose to cool by Wednesday. Yeah.
  • Anna

    Blondie,
I second what NavyMom says!!! If she leaves you are closing the door behind the two of you. Until she gets lights fixed. You can auction her if you want but you may end up paying someone to take her!!!!!!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Good morning. Wow, how did I get so far behind in such a short period of time?

Blondie, I hope the electrician arrives today. Perhaps an anonymous call to OSHA would help.

NM, our weather is changing some as well but not as much as yours. The trees aren't changing but the apples are ripening quickly. I am inundated with them. I have canned applesauce, apple butter and I am drying apples. My neighbor is making goodies. I came home with apple bread last night. DH is also picking blackberries and peas. The weather is cooler and many of the nights much cooler.

The GW has left Singapore so I can turn off Skype again. No more hoping for a chat until the next port. :-( Still it was fun to hear and see her albeit briefly.

Blondie, you will be on your way to Japan before you know it. What fun to have that to anticipate and even more fun when you get there.
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Blondie, I do use a crock pot and it makes life so easy. When I grew up, the ladies used to cook applesauce in huge, and I do mean huge, cast iron pots. They would spend the day stirring it. It smelled so good but was way more work! Also it is very nice to have a recipe. I have operated by the seat of my pants and using the taste method. The amount of water will depend upon the apple. I have been using Autumn Transparents this year and fine that all I need is just barely enough to keep the apples from sticking. When I made my first batch of applesauce, I had to ladle off water/apple juice.
  • Anna

    Oh Kyle,
So sorry to hear of your Chicago souvenir!!! Will you have to have surgery on it?
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Hugs, Kyle. I hope that the pain is well controlled.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Just sending a quick good morning to all of you. Another busy day in my paradise, but wanted to let you all know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Still no word from my SR, so all is well on that front (Im hoping).

Kyle....sorry to hear about your thumb...I pray you heal quickly! :)

Talk to you all soon! :) Hugs!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

NM, I use the Foley food mill for tomatoes and raspberries. I peel and core the apples because they are from old trees, not sprayed, so there may be worms, etc inside. Sometimes you can see where the worms have been. Also I like applesauce not too fine. These apples cook down so fast it impossible not to have fine applesauce. Since they are only a cooking apple they are nicely tart. You have to pick them a little green to get them firm enough to eat.

Blondie, I'm glad your husband fixed the lights for you. You definitely do not want to sit in the dark!!
  • oregonmom1 (ship06/Div942pir9/2)

Hang in there Kyle. . . So sorry about your thumb, just an extra souvanier from PIR
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
Just checking in. Have been very busy for the last few days while on vacation. It is nice to be off but I think I work less when I am at work. LOL. I have actually been doing something everyday. On Tuesday, since it was my birthday, I was taken to lunch by my son. Yesterday, we went for a hike up to a waterfall. Today we are recouping because it was a longer hike then I am use to.LOL. Tomorrow I think I am going to convince my son to drive me to the ocean. It is only about 3 hours away. It will be nice to see it. So If I am not on again until Monday, you'll know why. Have a great rest of the week. See ya on Monday.
  • Anna

    Hello all:

    Kyle,
Ouch!!! I hurt just reading your post!!! Hope everything goes well and you're all "thumbs up" soon!!!! ha ha couldn't resist!!!

    Jean,
Wow your vacation sounds wonderful!!! When I was out there Cath took me to the most northwest point - Cape Flattery!!! Only problem was by the time we got there it was raining, overcast and getting dark so I really couldn't see anything!!!! But I could hear the roar of the waves and daughter says it's a beautiful place to see. Have you ever been there??
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

    Hi Guys,

I trust everyone had a great day! :) It was busy at work today, but that makes the day go by faster. Sometimes. Lately I feel that someone put crazy glue on the clock, making the weeks seem long!

Wade - that is an incredible pic!! :) You are so blessed!!

Kyle - oh wow! how awful! Sending you love and prayers for speedy recovery. Good luck with your surgery on Monday!

jean - Sounds like you are having a great time! :) Wish you could have packed me in your suitcase.

I will catch up with the rest of you soon...I havent finished reading. :)

As for me - I got my very first real letter from my daughter. she sounds so good!! She said she is getting the hang of things. She is a bit sore from the PT (and said she has had punishment PT three times!!) and has blisters, but says she is fine. She is working in the chapel and genuinely sounds upbeat.

Love and hugs to all of you!
  • oregonmom1 (ship06/Div942pir9/2)

Wade, I love the picture. I can only imagine what a proud Momma you are.

Kyle, Surgery? Oh my. . good luck and speedy recovery.
  • Anna

    Wade,
Those pictures are Priceless!!!!!! The look on his face is so angelic - it's as tho he knew what she was doing and is just shrugging it off!!!!!!

    MandE's Mom,
So glad you got a letter and she is doing well!!! My daughter sang in the choir and because of that got to have some rehearsal time (she also played the violin). She said the chapel just gave her so much peace while she was there. I hope it does the same for your girl.
  • Anna

    Well Ladies,
Just a quick check in this morning and then I have to finish packing up and get ready to head up to Michigan. Hubby's working until 10 this morning and the company will pay him to drive up to Marquette. So that is nice. It's about 5 hours from here. I probably won't get to check in anymore today so I hope everyone has a great Friday!! Talk to you this weekend!!!!!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Wade, I love the pictures of your sailors. I am sure you are very proud of both of them. Thanks for sharing.

Kyle, Many prayers for surgery. May you heal quickly and completely. I also pray that your abnormal EKG is nothing serious at all.

Anna, Enjoy your time in Michigan. Where in Michigan will you be? We will be up there in late September visiting our older son and family.

Had a quick e-mail this morning from our G'daughter telling me that she is now officially a shellback. She was looking forward to losing WOG status.
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Blondie, it's great if you can get off your meds. I would love to knock some of mine out.
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
Vacation was fantastic. To bad it can't last. I come back and my desk is a disaster. They sure know how to hit some one.
  • Oneofalot

Yeah you do. I will not stress, I will not stress, I will not stress. There I feel better already. Boy, it is hard to come back. I wanted to not come back so bad. Gee if retirement would come faster. It is years away. I really mean years away. At least I have you guys to keep me sane.
Heard from my daughter. Her boyfriend did break up with her but they are staying friends. She wanted him to come live down with her in San Diego and he said NO. Good for him! I did not raise my kids to do that, so I don't know where she got this idea. I think it is only because she is missing home and wanted a part of it down there with her. Other then that I did nothing on my 4 days off. I relaxed to come back to this? Wow, I was really stupid. Ok enough. I am back. No more squawking.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, yes you can put her on the extra prayers. This relationship thing is ok. She is doing Ok with it but he is really right for her and they both know it. I hope and pray that he will wait like he said he would do. They really fit together really well and I really don't think she would find any one like him. That is why it is so hard for even me to let him go.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Just dropping by for the Monday morning "Hi" and "How are you?" We are doing well...just as busy as ever. THis was the first day of school for my 10 year old, the beginning of the 4th week of Basic for my SR, and the first day of college for my other beautiful daughter who is waiting to join the Navy. :) So, it is a good day!
  • Oneofalot

Very true. I really think this is my daughters true other half. So hopefully it is a growing time. My daughter has to quite being so mean to him and they might be together. My daughters emotions have never been this flighty and now they are. I really don't know what is going on in her head. LOL
  • Oneofalot

WOW, you are really busy, Mande's mom. Our schools don't start until the 7th of September. This is the first year that I don't have kids going to school and it feels really weird.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Jean, I bet that is a weird feeling. I wont be in those shoes for a while, but I know the time will fly.

Yes, I stay busy. Work is always nonstop, my son is in karate and cub scouts (and that too is back in business...sigh), and I am always writing writing writing to my SR. :) My husband thinks it is funny that my life suddenly revolves around post office times and mail pick up. I hope all of you are having a great day! :) How is everyone today?

Guys, please keep my SR in your prayers this week. She has a meeting on Wednesday that is very important. I do not want to go into complete detail, but as some of you may remember, we had an issue early on...the determination of whether she is to stay or go will be this week.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, I am right there with you. I really am happy that I did not have to do the shopping for school.
  • Oneofalot

I have already got that. I have had that since my daughter left for BC in February. LOL
Sometimes it is nice to be home with no noise.
  • Oneofalot

I hate that. I have about 1 hour before my hubby comes home and it is really nice. Then the TV comes on at volume 36 and it is so noisy that I actually tune most of it out. I guess it is all thoughs years with kids.
  • Oneofalot

    Both!!! lol
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, She will call or email. when she can. I know it is really hard to not hear from them all the time. I miss my daughter too but I also know she is doing what she wants to do.(maybe, she is having a hard time with the military right now. She is not getting what she wants and it is frustrating for her). Maybe we were sister or even BF's we do sound a lot alike. LOL
