HaleesMom--Hi !! If you are talking about your SR losing weight by all the exercising they do, they don't do as much as you were told, granted they do do PFA's and some marching but that is about it. I thought the same thing when my sailor was in BC, and was shocked when she told me how little they do.
Hello everyone!!! Another cool day here - I guess fall is here in the UP!!!
EQ,
RE your post from the other night: Thank you so much for thinking about me and my health in offering to take some of those drinks off my hands!!! You are just so kind!!! Yeah - - - really!!!! ha ha
Welcome HaleesMom!!! I'm glad you found us!! Sent you a personal welcome. Like Blondie said - we're here to help if we can and if not we'll cry along with you. I like to do my crying in the shower - - I blame the shampoo for my red eyes!! Hubby is sweet but he just doesn't get how I can get so sad that my kids are all grown and gone. Two are active duty and on the other side of the country and another is active duty but going to school in OH still. I still miss my baby girl and it's been 2 and 1/2 years!!!!
NavyMom,
I'm glad your daughter is happy with the change in duty she got even if she's not crazy about Japan. My niece was stationed over there for several years but I don't know that much about being stationed over there. Will she go on deployment from there or will she be staying put?
Yea, we are in Fall now. It is cold over here. The nights are getting cold enough to put extra blankets on the bed. Not yet ready to turn on all the space heaters yet. We have the one in the livingroom on but that is it so far. I am doing OK. The doctor said it could take up to 3 weeks for feel 100%. Each day I come home tired but feeling better each day. Haven't made it to the gym yet. I'll see if I feel ok to do that on Saturday. Thanks for asking. How's it going in your neck of the woods.
Jean,
It's going!!! I finished unpacking the bathroom - just have to put up a decorative shelf yet. Was working in the bedroom today when I realized the center support piece of our bed was bent to one side. Decided on my own to take off king sized mattress and box springs and take apart frame to fix. Somehow I managed to wrench my left knee like crazy!! Pain was excruciating there for a while but it seems to be ok now. I just do steps one at a time!!!!! Now I have to get our bed put back together!!!!!!
It sounds like the doctor makes all hell break loose. Not you. I don't think he knows what busy is. The same with my boss. He thinks be cause he has less to do that we have less to do. Wrong!
Thanks Blondie and Jean,
I decided to take a break and get some lunch myself. Tried pounding the bedframe piece into submission. I'll see if I accomplished anything when I put it back together.
Knee is still sore to walk. I guess I won't be carrying this next box upstairs now!! I'll have to let hubby do it tonight!! I know sometimes I get too impatient when I'm trying to get something done. I put one of the box springs in front of the doorway so while I was carrying one piece of bedframe trying to step over the other and stepping around the box spring to get out I twisted the knee!!! Then I almost fell over all of it!!! I'd probably impale myself on the frame piece!!!!!
All this because I was going to put two space saver bags of clothes under the bed and saw that the frame was bent!!!!!
No Blondie, bedroom isn't finished yet!! But bath and kitchen are!!! :)
Hey maybe she is my bosses sister. They sound like they do the same thing. Mine boss doesn't understand that I can't snap my fingers and things get done. There is a way to do things not just have it be done in a flash.
Jean,
You are so right - if I took the time to unpack everything it would be time to turn around and pack it back up. I keep telling myself - - 4 months, just 4 months!!!! But it will be ok - - I'll have it done before the snow falls!!!!!!
Break time over - back to work now!! Will check back in later. Blondie if I miss you before you leave work, have a great evening. We should have a drink together tonight!!!!
I don't know. Friday nights are our family night. Were we take all our kids out to dinner. It started when all my kids grow up and moved out and I wanted to keep in touch with them and their lives. I don't know when I will be done with that. If it is not to late I will stop by. If I don't get to say good bye I will now. You have a great weekend. I am going to relax and take time off and rest.
Thank you CAT, EQ, & Blondie! I've been reading up on everything -- going to try the recruiter to see if he can provide her address before I get the letter. If not--I'll just save them to send together! I've watched the video's on what BC is like and since she was an EMT/Firefighter going in to this--I'm sure she'll do fine. I also am from a huge family & her friends all are starting to write as well. I think I should send her a large envelope so she can send her letters home to save them because of the limited space they have! LOL--& her Uncle can't wait to see whats changed since he was there 25 years ago! I'm confident in her ability--she just needed to see it for herself! Thanks again for the support!
Question--when can we start sending care packages? I'm assuming not during BC. But A-school is ok?
jck33 same issue here with my daughter--check out the video Navy Racks-Boot Camp--it says they'll get everything she'll need provided. But she still took stuff--so I'll get it all back in the box!
NavyMom,
Yes, remembering 9/11 and all the heros that were lost that day, and the many days after, in the fight against terrorism!!!
jck33,
Tell your wonderful daughter that she doesn't need any clothes or undegarments in bc. She will get all that issued to her. Yes to her ID, bank card if she has one, a small address book and a small amount of cash. Everything else including her dirty scivies will be returned to you (or she can choose to toss them or donate them). You can tell her she won't like the undies they issue her (I haven't met a female yet that did!!) but she can go buy her own stuff when she gets to A school or after!!!
You should spend your last day getting a massage, a nice mother/daughter lunch or maybe go see a movie!!!! Just enjoy those last few precious moments!!!
HaleesMom,
They have to phase up in A school before they can have things from home (like her cell phone, laptop or civilian clothes). And each A school can be a little different so you will have to wait until she gets there and gets settled before she can tell you the when and what. At first they are still treated pretty much like recruits - they have early curfews, inspections and the like. As they do well and "move up" they get more privledges like wearing civilian clothes and having more liberty. They can get a cell phone pretty early but tell her not to ever get caught with it on her while in uniform!!
Hi everyone. I got good news from my daughter today. She got Sailor of the Day. I guess she is fitting in just fine. Anna I love your flag. I went today to a 9/11 thing they did in our town. I didn't plan on it but we were there and it just happened. It was really cool to be part of the thing.
Hello all I just wanted to share that I got a phone call today the first REAL one and it was the most Amazing 20 minutes ever....I do have a question...do they ever get shampoo...she said washing her hair with bodywash is just nasty......I didnt wanna use up my time asking alot of questions that I could get answered here...any help is grateful.....thank you!
They can buy it when they go to the store. I think they should of bought it when they went to get all there stuff. Other wise they can buy it when they get the chance to go to the store. My daughter never said how she got shampoo. Have her get some from her bunk mates. They learn to share during this time.
Well according to our phone convo their division hasnt been doing so well....and they aren't getting alot of the "xtras" Im assuming thats going for thngs like shampoo...she said they get phone calls every Sat...but each day they get phone minutes taken away if the division messes up....hoping since she called today they are coming together and working better as 1...thanks for all the advice and help
Hi Desiree'sMom- My daughter, Div12 S341 doesn't have any shampoo either she wrote in her letter, so don't know how that works, so maybe it has to be earned.
Jean,
Congrats to your daughter!!! What a wonderful accomplishment!!
Desiree,
So glad you got to hear from her. It may be that she hasn't been able to go to the NEX to get more shampoo yet. I think they are given some toiletries when they get there. Nex privledges may have to be "earned". I hope she gets to get some soon!!!! It's tough getting your division to work together sometimes and then everyone pays!!
Hey Ya'll, I'm considering joining the Navy....I also have a boyfriend who just graduated 9.10.10 (My reason for joining is NOT because of him, i decided this long before we were together) HOWEVER, My grandma isn't so gung ho about me joining..any suggestions on ways to make her more open to it?
nicole lee,
Hello!! Glad you found us. We have had a few other young ladies on here asking questions and getting advice before signing up to serve!!!! You are in good company and will get plenty of support, advice, and answers!!! Let your grandma know about this website and that she can join and talk to many moms, grandmoms, and others who can help her, support her and answer any questions she may have. Also, take her with you to talk to your recruiter. Let her be part of the process as you gather info. Let her know that nothing is permanent until you sign your final contract the day you leave for boot camp. You can take all the tests, the physical and everything else, but until you sign that final contract you can always change your mind if YOU want. That may make her feel a little better that you won't be taken off to boot just for talking. And keep in touch here if you have any questions you want to ask. We have all kinds of sailors represented here - officer and enlisted, newbies and ones who have been in for several years so we can probably help you out!!!!!
Good luck!!!!!!
Thank you so much Anna! It helps alot, I've triiiied to get her to get on this site and check it out and read some discussions, my bf is enlisted, so i've kinda in a way gone through it already. And I love it. I've done SO much research, and met with my recruiters multiple times, however, she hasn't wanted to go with to meet them either. so i'm waiting til I take my pre ASVAB soon, and showing her the scores and how good it would be for me!
My weekend was very restful. I need to just rest and that is what I did. Actually my son and I played tourist and went to the Pike Place Market( is Downtown) by bus so that I could get Fresh veggies/fruit. It was wonderful to be out and not worry about when to be home or what time to be home. We really had a good time doing that. Next weekend we go camping with my husbands side of the family. That will be really stressful. But Tom my son and I decided that we are going to do this kind of thing once ever few weeks. Our next outing is going to be taking the tram to the airport just to do it. We have never been on it so it sounds sort of fun.
The camping thing wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to do everything to get ready and then do everything when we get there. Plus I hate spending time with his family. I don't exist to them. Me and my kids are like invisible to them. They just don't see us. So it is a pain to be going camping. Plus I hate sleeping in the outdoors. Yes, I know I am from the NW. so what. There are people out there like me that hate camping. I hope. Sorry for ranting. I will be back to me again.
So you actually know what I feel like on this kind of trip. I hope my son comes with us. If he doesn't it will be really boring. They like to go hiking for the time between breakfast and dinner and I am not a hiking person. I think it is because my dad was a boy scout leader and I had to do all the hiking when they went on one. I really hate it bad!!!!
I don't like the water. Sailing is my husbands thing to do all the time so I hate that to. He sleeps and eats sailing. Anything really to do with his family seems to bother me lately. I think I spend to much time with them. They don't get it when you are sick either. They are all workaholics. So it is go go go all the time. I am staying back from the hike to read. That will be my quiet time.
Yeah, that is really true. I sometimes like going camping. I would like it if I could just sit and listen to the animals and really relax. That is camping. Not this thing called got to go hiking because we cant sit still and just relax thing.

How are you feeling these days??? I hear from sailor girl that it's been getting cool in your neck of the woods. She was telling me last night that she has to figure out how to turn on her heat. Her fiancé is on deployment right now and this is the first winter in the new place they rented so she's not sure how things work yet!!!! I told her to contact her landlord and she said well there's an owner's notebook around here somewhere that tells us how to work things!!!!!!!!!!!
I worry about her sometimes!!
