Who wouldn't. I would love to go to that. But it just cost so much to go. This year over here it cost over 100 dollars. That is a lot for me. Plus a day off work. That wouldn't be so bad.
Thanks ladies! She's pretty much scared of losing me, she considers me a child..And the safety, which I explained to her..You're more prepared in the Navy to go out to war than to cross the street. You could get killed at any time, any day..But in the Navy you are trained to protect yourself, and shipmates, along with our beautiful country. I think the more info I bring home and stack on her dresser helps:)
Good evening all!! I had a busy day today but alas, I always work alone now - - unless you count my cat!!!! Oh and the pay sucks (none!!!) But its ok - - I'm glad I can go on the road with hubby and don't have to worry about getting a job each and every time. If we were going to be here longer I'd go find another part time job just to have some mad money but I'm not going to bother for just a couple months!!!
Blondie,
Sorry you had such a crappy day and that I missed you!!! But I did get my bathroom shelf up and got a plastic shelf unit in a hall closet so I could unpack all my linen closet stuff!! Then I sat down on the floor and folded all the packing paper we used so I can turn around and use it again. No sense in buying more - it's good for one or two more uses!!!!! Tomorrow I hope to finish up the living room and get all the empty boxes hidden away somewhere and I think I will be done with all that I intend to do!!!!!
Nicole,
I'm glad you are giving your grandma all the info you get. It is wonderful that she does care about your health and safety. Unfortunately there are some men and women who enter the service and have no support from home. Tell your grandma her job is to pray for you and you will do all you can to keep yourself safe!!!! Just keep those lines of communication open and everything will work out!!! She will always worry - I worry about my kids and I know every Mom on here worries about theirs - - it's our job!!!!! :)
Good luck to you and keep us posted on your process!!
I definitely will keep you all posted, my boyfriend supports my decision greatly, and i've made it known that my decision to join the navy is in NO WAY because of him. it's what I WANT. and I think it will be okay in the end.
I'm hoping to graduate highschool next year(as a junior)
Because i'm one of the oldest in my class, i'll be able to enlist first semester junior year. & will be able to go to bootcamp second semester of what would have been my senior year, and have the first semester senior year to get in shape and all of that. so I'm hoping that's how it works out! Lots of work, so worth it though!
That is right. I don't want to be spam. Every once in a while our IT guy changes settings and I have retrieve everyone from our spam box. It gets tiring to do. It hasn't happened in a while. I think the computer has learned to know who should be here and who should not be here. lol
I am glad you got to hear from your sailor. It makes us all happy to know that everyone gets to hear from there sailors once in awhile. It would be hard to get the right email address if there are so many. Yikes, I'm glad my daughter only has one for right now. She just had here physical for EOD. I am not sure I like this EOD thing. But I have to be there for her in what ever she wants to do.
Afternoon all!! Taking a short break and decided to drop in and say hey!!
I discovered something interesting today - this apartment has a basement - they called it a crawl space but it's the same size as the apartment!!! I could stand up in it but hubby would have to stoop. But it's just dirt floor with plastic so altho I could use the storage I won't be putting anything down there. I had to vacuum several spiders from that closet - did I ever mention that I HATE spiders??!!!!
jck,
Hugs to you also!!! Good advice about the cell charger. I've heard from other moms who mentioned that their sailors had very little battery life left by the time they got to GL!!! Keeping your girl in my prayers!!!
Jean,
I'm not sure how I'd like that EOD thing!!! Prayers for your girl as well!!!
Hope everyone has a great day!!! Grabbing some lunch and back to work!! Want to get this done today if I can. Blondie, taking a drive around this city would take about 10 minutes! Although I always find the view of the lake to be just breathtaking!!!! This place is so small we don't even have an Olive Garden, Outback or several other of our favorite restaurants!!! We did check out the "mall" Saturday!! That took about 20 minutes!!!! Don't get me wrong - - I love small towns but I guess I've just always been just outside a big city so we always had all the admenities and we've been spoiled!!!!!!
Jean,
I'm with you, but if she doesn't change her mind she will still be getting lots of prayers!!!! What is it with some of these younguns of ours that seems to love the danger side!!! You should see some of the things my son signs up for!!!!!! What's a mom to do????????
Jean,
My other daughter Jenn, who just got sworn in as an officer candidate, wants to fly also. Since she's getting that steady Navy pay now she is going for her private pilot's license now and have that under her belt by the time she goes off to flight school. I try not to think about it!!!!!
NavyMom,
Thank you for the valuable information!!! Didn't know about that ground freeze thing. Funny because in NE Ohio they build on slab - maybe it doesn't get as cold there (although I find that hard to believe!!!!!!) Was not aware of the fine dining establishments!! We have all that you mentioned except Arby's. Closest one is 60 miles away in Escanaba!!! We do have an Applebee's and a very, very old looking Red Lobster!!! Oh - - - - and I've already spent money in Menards!!!!! Shelf unit so I can have a linen closet!!!!! We have two grocery stores - 3 counting a good sized WalMart!! You're right about rush hour!! And it is beautiful here!!!! We should plan a meeting sometime soon now!! Before the snow starts - - which I hear can be next month!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather her fly the EOD. But right now she doesn't want to go to school so she cant become an officer with out doing that. So for now EOD is what she wants. YIKES!
NavyMom,
You know this area of the country better than I do - we should find a half-way place to meet up and one that is big enough to have one of those!!!!
This month??? Really???? OMG!!!!
Hey ladies!:) I foundout today that i'm eligible to graduate next year, my junior year, and ship out in 2012, in that winter..though I am considering waiting til spring of 2013..because winters in GL are HARSH!
Bleh. I'm just worried that i'll get a cold there because when you sniffle and such, they send you to medical..which sucks..because I sniffle ALOT when i'm sick..and I don't want to be set back for being sick. so I was thinking March if my recruiter can get it set that way.
Nicole,
The season won't make much difference in getting sick while in bc. Because of all the shots they give recruits many of them get sick even in the summer. Just to keep in the back of your mind. Also they won't automatically send you to medical or put you back, My daughter got sick in bc and spent a day siq (sick in quarters) but she never got set back. But you go with what makes you comfortable!!! Of course, when you go to bc has alot to do with when there will be an opening in the school you hope to get in. Detailers will let you know that when you go to MEPS. They are the only ones that can put you in a particular rate at a particular time, the recruiters have no control over that. Just some info for you to have when you go talk to them!!!!!!
My Kid in a Box arrived today! I guess they are keeping her! LOL
It was delivered while I was at work. The neighbor "Papa John" snagged it up and hand delivered it to me. He was military and is so proud of Halee --that he wanted to bring it to me!
Just as expected--everything she took with her in a box! LOL Along with a note--please send IPOD to so and so (Friend) and one big piece of paper folded up that said "LOVE YOU"! Then I called her father & his GF to let them know it arrived! Now he's not dealing too well with this choice of hers!
Just waiting on the form letter with the details! Making plans for attending PIR. She told me before she left that she thinks she is a Grad N Go--no matter -- will still make the trip--and go visit family near by if she is. Shoot I'm already making plans and researching A school area to go visit!
Looking forward to receiving her letters soon! I imagine every SR is going through cellphone/texting withdrawals!
HaleesMom,
Hooray for the kid in the box. That was a cute comment - "they're keeping her"!!!! Made me chuckle. I'm glad you are going to go to PIR even if she is a grad and go. My son was G&G when he had PIR and told us not to bother making the trip since we wouldn't be able to see him. After he told us he sat around and waited for a couple hours and then waited some more at the airport. He said other sailors had their family with them and he felt left out!!! I felt so bad that I decided even if Catherine was G&G we were going to go and spend whatever wait time she had with her!!!!
I totally agree--I've read that others found out what airport they were flying out of & got passes to be with their Sailor at the gate until they fly out--you know I'll be there! :-)
HaleesMom,
Yes if your sailor is flying out you can get a guest pass at the ticket counter to go through security and wait with them. You need a picture ID - driver's license. They even let hubby and I go through with our son when he was flying back after a short Christmas visit. That one surprised me because he wasn't on orders or anything - just going back to Great Lakes. But hey, I was ok with it!!
I am currently stationed in Norfolk, Va. i was in boot camp June-August of 2009 and would like to answer any questions you may have. i have also created a group, Your Questions Answered, for this sole purpose
Joanne - I know, I live 3 hours south of GL..it gets cold..but sometimes we endup getting snow in november....and it gets less cold in march. id like it to be in the middle, brisk, not freezing, not hot.
I know how that is NavyMomXXXY, Quad Cities IL weather is like that too....
You will get Bright, Sun shining day with a gorgeous breeze, and within the matter of 8 hours.....COLD. WINDY. RAINING. DARK. What's up with this?!
My daughter is flying out today to join her ship in the Persian Gulf. I know she's been away at college for 4 yrs and in Va for 3mos but I miss her more than I thought I would. It will be hard not to be able to just call. I have to wait til she gets an email address from the ship
Colleen - I know what you mean. My daughter was in OCS for 15 weeks, then SWOS and now on a ship. I haven't been able to just pick up the phone and call her since March! There are times I think of something I want to tell her, and it has to wait until I get home and can email her. And by then, I've forgotten what it was! We're all here for you.
Colleen,
Yes, we are here with you. I went through two deployments in the gulf with my son and it is hard to not hear their voice for months!! But I enjoyed those emails!! Even if only one or two sentences - just to know he was ok!!
pgrlisa,
How is your sailor girl doing? How much longer before she gets back to port?
Yeah about those weather patterns - it's amazing the effect the Great Lakes have on weather - especially in winter. Living off the shore of Lake Erie for years you get that lake effect snow and it just doesn't stop sometimes. I remember getting up in the morning and the cars are completely buried!!!! I guess I'll see how much Lake Superior damages me this winter!!! I just hope I'm out of here before it gets really bad!!!! We would describe our seasons as getting ready for winter, winter, more winter, and construction!!!
NavyMom,
This morning I was listening to the Weather Channel and they were reporting about temps getting cold in the northern part of the country. Then the guy said "Marquette, MI 34 degrees" I thanked him very much and changed the channel!!!!!!!
TwigsMom--take pictures! That's one thing I missed out on--child didn't let me know I could have gone!
Anna--Just received her letter! PIR is 11/5 & she is in ship 07 DIV 356--already found my PIR group!
She stated---I'm doing good, Love you, so far so good, Miss everyone, my cellphone, & facebook! LOL at least she put us before the phone & facebook! LOL Planning my PIR road trip! Even if she is still a Grad-N-Go!
Good Luck TwigsMom. were hare here for ya. I had to be strong for my daughter. Everyone around us was crying and I new if I did she would of broke down and I didn't want it to be harder for her. She was doing what she wanted to do. I sent her off and then broke down and cried all the way home.
Anna - my daughter will be on shore in 2 months. She won't be home (with me) but she'll be back on dry land. She likens the cruise to the movie Groundhog Day. But she's learning a lot and seems to be happy.
I just heard from my daughter way of Email and she said that she will be calling us tonight. That means they must be in port. Yeah!!! I get to hear her voice. I am so excited.
Blondie, Hope you get to Skype with your daughter. Somehow that makes them seem closer. One time my sailor Skyped me and I was fixing dinner. I put the computer on the bar to the kitchen. It was much like old times when she was home and we would chat while I fixed supper.
Good Afternoon all!!
Wow lots of girls coming back soon. pgrlisa, Cat and Jean!!!! I hope all of you get to hear from your girls soon!!!
HalleesMom,
So glad you got word from your girl!!! It gives us a high for days doesn't it!!
TwigsMom,
Safe travels to the swearing in - stay strong!! We all seem to wait until after to break down and sob our heads off!!!
I've been talking to my sailor girl Catherine quite a bit the last few days. Her fiance is on deployment on a sub and they can't even send or recieve emails for weeks on end. So I get to hear from her a little more often than I normally do!!! I'm not complaining!!!
I finally got my three star flag in today!!! I got to proudly hang it in my window and then took a picture and sent it to all 3 of my sailors!!!!!
