Moms of Daughters 2

Hello all,

Today I received my first letter from my daughter. It was great to hear that everything is going well. I have a question though...She mentions that they started with 60 girls and are down to 51. What do they do with the girls. Are they sent home, are they sent back a group. None of the moms of sons mention that their numbers are really going down. I guess I am just a little confused.

All divisions do not finish with the same number they started with. some get set back, some get seperated...who knows what the case may be. in coed divisions, the girls are all on one side of the hall, males on the other. so her division might have lost a few males along the way, but really shes noticing whats going on in her compartment specifically.

Thanks Who. Maybe there are some males who have been lost as well, I guess it was just because she specifically mentioned the girls that I was concerned.

Congrats to your daughter!!! Was MA what she wanted. My daughter was in DEP for a year before she went to bc - the time still went by so fast!!!!

Hope you got your phone call!!! I don't suppose that dentist could make a house call so you could be home!!!

Anna- she sounded great. I think she has completed one week of training now. She was DEP for about 6 months, so she was working a lot with her recruiter on PT and classwork. I don't know if that gave her some sort of heads up for what was to come, but she seems to be doing exactly what she expected to be doing. It was so nice to hear that everything was okay. I'll probably walk around with a goofy grin all day tomorrow also. :)

Jenn told me the storms last night were really bad. She said it was like 5 hurricanes right overhead. Luckily they blew over pretty quickly. Haven't heard from her yet today - not until she gets out of classes.

Hi ladies, I am sure I have missed alot. I have been very busy with daughter( who is in marching band) and my dad ( who had surgery on Tuesday) Even though I don't post much I love reading everyone elses.:) My dad had to have part of his lung removed and whe just found out it is cacncer. He does not smoke or drink for anyone that was wondering. Also found out he has to go back on Wednesday for the same surgery. Not much recouperating time and the first surgery was very painful. The good thing (if there really can be a good thing) we are at the Naval hospital in Bethesda Maryland. Please keep my dad in your prayers. Thanks

Glad you stopped by to check in. So sorry to hear about your Dad. I understand your point of view. My mom came down with lung cancer and she never smoked or drank either. I will certainly keep your Dad in my prayers.

Good Morning to Everyone.
I had a really good time camping this weekend. It was very wet but it was actually fun even though I was with my husbands family. We had camp sites far enough away that it really did not matter. There hike that they seem to always go on was to the little town near by.

Yes, they had little shops and lot of little resturants. It was really cool to walk around. The problem with it was you could finish the little shops in about 1 hour and his family stayed ALL DAY.

No, I had to sit in the car because we had our dog with us. I did a lot of reading while waiting for them. It was sort of funny, I am not a shopper that is why I could go through the stores so fast. Plus my son was with me. We also spent a lot of time people looking and making up what they were thinking. It did pass fast when we did that. Some times we thought up funny things they were thinking by the looks on there faces.

It really passes the time when you do something like that.

I'll will be leaving early today. I have a dentist apt. to go to. They are doing a root canal on one of my back teeth. It has been bothering me for a while and he finally found that I have cracked the tooth and it probably will be way down deep. It already has a crown on it but he won't know until he gets in there. So if I am not on later you will know why.

I really hate dentist! So this is going to be hard. Thanks for the prayers, I'll need them. My BP goes up also. Hopefully they won't have to do the root canal and it will just be a fix the crown thing.

Hope your dentist visit goes well for you!!! I have one first thing tomorrow morning!! I so dislike going to the dentist as well but I know it's something I have to take care of. Way overdue!!!! Glad you had a good camping time this weekend!!!

Just checking in to say hi. :) I have been MIA for a while...too much going on. At work, life has been busy and I havent been able to get over to this website...and by the time I get home, I do not want to touch the computer. :) Life is good, though!

Oh yeah I did. I didn't want to miss that call. I know it was coming and did not want to miss it. That is the only time I had a phone in my bedroom was when she was at BC. There was other calls but those where in the day. thank God for that.

That really sucks. I know about those epi pens. My husband is suppose to carry one but will not do so. He is a carpenter that works outside. I just hope he never gets stung again. It was scary that last time when we found out he was.

Never thought I would say this but I wish I had my old Ohio weather right now. We only get up into the 60s most days. Sometimes 70 or 71 if we're lucky. Can't believe we are wearing jackets already!!!!

Hope you get your call soon!! I got mine late in the afternoon!1 I would have been a basket case if I had to wait any longer than that. We were worried about whether she had put the name of her then-boyfriend on the visitor list as we were making plans to take him to PIR with us. I was pacing the floor that day waiting to hear from her. And I didn't have N4Ms then!!!! How ancient!!!!

This is coming from the northwest. I saw where you guys have some stuff coming your way from more south. And a heat wave also!!

Hi Ladies. I am the single parent to my daughter (my only child and the only granddaughter) and she has been in BC for a week now. I was ok until I received the letter today and in the comments at the bottom of the letter, telling me how much she hates it, they cut her hair some more (which was an issue) , and nothing but sad faces. To me, this is the hard part. Knowing she's unhappy and hoping she will be ok.

I understand how hard this is on you!! When my daughter went through bc she had her hair cut just before she left and they cut it again once she got to bc. She said it was their way of making a statement - you belong to us now!!! Sometimes Moms get letters about how much their sailors hate it and how they made the worst decision of their life!!! Now as a Mom, we will worry about this and stew over it for weeks - partly because we won't hear from them again for that long!!! But many times, by the time you get another letter things will be better and they will be getting into the swing of things. Remember, they need a safe place to vent to, complain to, and have someone to bitch to and God knows they can't do it there!!! So they send it home to MOM!!! Just always encourage her and let her know how proud of her you are. I think bc is harder on the Moms but we will be here to help you along!!!!

Anna, THANK YOU! I needed to hear that. I think I am going to copy your post to remind me if or when I get those kind of letters. I really appreciate you starting this group. All of my friends on this website (up until now) have sons. Thank you again.

My Halee knew going in it was going to be tough--but she also knew that once she gets through BC--it'll be much easier. Just remember this will make her a stronger young woman & even more prepared to face the world.

Yes, we want a full report after you get back from PIR!!!! Don't forget camera batteries!! And lots of tissues!!! If you're taking daughter's cell phone, don't forget the charger!! She'll want to catch up with all her friends. They don't get any news while in bc so they like to catch up with the outside world!!!!!

@HaleesMom- I just mailed a 5 page letter to my daughter (my first letter to her) and hoping that I receive one from her. But even if I don't, it's ok. I would rather her focus on being successful in bc or getting encouragement else where if she chooses to write someone else. She will know she always have my love and encouragement even if she doesn't send me a single letter.

@HaleesMom- however, I am glad and happy that you got letters from your daughter! And I hope my daughter is doing well like yours!

Our high today was about 51!!! It was cold last night but I didn't even look at the thermometer!!! Still have a couple windows open but haven't turned on the heat yet!!!!

Friends took me out to dinner last night...that was great! This weekend will relax, clean, write my recruit, do 5k AIDs walk in 100 degree heat tomorrow, and then back to work!

@Anna- I always tell people you add clothes and etc to warm up but you can only take off so much to cool off....lol

I just wanted to pass along that I found a Sailor nutcracker at Target. He had to come home with me of course! They had many different themed ones but the Sailor was awesome.

Sorry I have not been on for a while, I have been with my mom. She was put in the hospital into ICU on Thursday and was finely transfered to Special Care Unit last night. Which means she is a little bit more stable then on Thursday. So please everyone pray for my mom to get better. Thanks.

Thanks. I am at work today so I will be in and out of this site all day. She was stable yesterday when I left but things can change quickly. Thanks the prayers. I will really need them for her and the family.
