I agree. Christina had a lot of her friends die because of the war. Remember she was a Marine before she went to the Navy. Never did time but spent 4 years working out with them. I am so grateful for the car accident she was in because it knocked her out of the Marines. That is how she became a Sailor. She thought the Lord was telling her to look into the other branches before settling into something. So that is probably why.
  • Oneofalot

    So was I.
  • Oneofalot

That was right. You survived the wedding with the cupcakes and all. I better you feel like you need a day or two to recover from that.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks Jane. I really do appreciate all you guys have done for me and meant to me. Thanks
  • Oneofalot

You need the rest after all that. Keep using that TENS unit. It will help a lot.
  • Oneofalot

That is right. I have been on high dose of Ibuprofen for my shoulder injury that I got last November. The doctor said he though it was a flare up because of what I am going through but really is not sure. I think he has the diagnose wrong. and it is not tendon idius. Sorry for the spelling. He also said he thought it could be carpel tunnel. Pray that it isn't. I really don't want to quit my job and have to find another one.
  • Oneofalot

The doctor hasn't even dune x-rays. I am waiting to see if he is right. If it hasn't gotten better by the end of this week I am going to get a third opinion. The second opinion was his boss and he did x-rays if I remember right and it did not show anything other than that my bones were ok. Remember I went to Group Health for this. My next opinion will be outside of Group Health. I will be going to my husbands shoulder doctor. I know I will get a good diagnose with him. He won't be worried about cost.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Jean - I will continue to pray for you and your family. I am so glad your Sailor will get the opportunity to be with you and the rest of your family during this difficult time. Remember, we are all hear for you!
  • Oneofalot

Thanks. She will only be here for 4 days. That is all that she could get because the ship is leaving in a few days after she gets back.
  • Oneofalot

You are right. I want it fixed. It was getting better and now I am back to were I was last November. I don't like the idea that the doctor said that I will have to live with it doing this for the rest of my life and not get compensated for it. They can't do that. Which S****cks.
  • Anna

Hello ladies!! Wow - I haven't had a chance to get on here for several days!! I missed everyone. I had such a wonderful weekend tho'. Hubby and I took a trip to the Keweenaw Peninsula, which if you look at a map of Lake Superior it is a hunk of land that sticks up into the Lake from the upper peninsula of Michigan. The fall colors were beautiful and the views were unbelievable!! We went up to the top to a place called Copper Harbor. We had no cell service which wasn't a big deal by itself, but then we found out our hotel didn't have phones in the rooms and we didn't have internet service. The kids couldn't figure out why we seemed to drop off the face of the earth!!! We visited a lighthouse that you only get to by boat and then took a drive up the mountain and could see the entire town and harbor down below. Felt like we were on top of the world!!!! I'll put a picture up at the end of this message. Such a wonderful trip!!

    Jean,
I was saddened to get on today and read your news. I'm glad your daughter is going to get to come home but I'm sorry it is for such a sad occasion. I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers. Hope you get rid of that pain soon!!!

    Blondie,
Glad the wedding is over and you survived!!

Here's the picture overlooking Copper Harbor:

  • Oneofalot

Thanks Anna. It will be nice when my mom passes. She is in so much pain, she will be in a better place once she is gone.
  • Oneofalot

By the way those were nice pictures. I wish I could be there. Nice and calm.
  • Anna

    Jean,
I am so sorry. I guess sometimes it is better when they go quickly because we don't want to see our loved ones suffer. When I lost my mom everything happened within 3 months. From her being up and around, alert, doing her day to day things, to being diagnosed, to loosing the battle!! We were totally caught off guard. But for as much as I miss her, I'm glad she didn't suffer long. I pray for peace and comfort for your mom and you!! Wish I could tell you how to get through it, but we all know that's not possible.
    Cyber hugs being sent to you along with this message - - {{{ }}}
  • Anna

    Blondie,
Jenn said you guys were getting rain. We did have rain off and on all day Saturday but luckily it was never too bad. Sunday morning when we got up to leave for breakfast, hubby had to scrape ice off the windows of the jeep!!!!
  • Anna

    NavyMom,
Yes, I did see the snow totals "stick". I would say tower is more accurate!!!!
For all the other ladies, I will put up a pic of that also!! Last year's total snow fall - - 13.5 feet - - an all time low?!?!?!?! Record snow fall 390.4 inches!!!! I don't think I can handle that even coming from the snowbelt of Ohio!!!

  • Anna

I gotta say - - I hope we are done and leaving here before it gets that bad!!! I'm so glad we went to Copper Harbor this past weekend because we were talking to the boat captain after our excursion out to the lighthouse and he said places would be closing up within the next couple weeks until next year!!! I guess we better get all the sight seeing traveling we want to do finished in the next month!!!
  • Anna

Oh - and I'm glad I got a two story apartment!!!!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Anna, your picture of Copper Harbor reminds me a lot of looking at Bar Harbor from Cadillac Mountain. We don't get a ton of snow, however, at least nothing like that marked on the "stick." A couple of winters ago we did get over 100 inches and in Aroostook County the snow was up to the power lines. Thinks have started closing up here and after Columbus Day most places will be closed. Bar Harbor becomes a ghost town.

Jean, I am sending you and your family many prayers and hugs. I know how difficult time this is for you. May your mother have a peaceful passing and may the members of hospice keep her from suffering. It will be nice to have your daughter home for a visit, albeit a short one.

    DC,
Years ago I went to Maine with family when my oldest brother retired from the Navy. I know we went to the shore and I remember how beautiul it was. It was during the summer or maybe early fall. We stayed at a camp ground not far from where my brother was stationed, but I don't remember where that was!!!! I'm going to have to ask him!! Hubby and I want to travel to the New England area again some time. I don't think he's ever seen any jobs posted for that part of the country because we would go there again in a heartbeat!!!!!!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Anna, there aren't that many Navy places in Maine and some of them are closing. We did have a Navy base close by but it closed around 2003. Come again when you get a chance.
  • Anna

    DC,
That may be where he was because this was about 20 years ago. It was before the girls were born. And we had to be close to the coast in order to visit it before heading back home.
  • ladypinkhatter

Hi Ladies. Just catching up and checking in.

Blondie- Welcome back (in one piece I presume..lol). I bet you it was beautiful but most important...glad it's over!!!

Jean- I too am glad your daughter is coming home but I'm sorry it's under these circumstances. I will pray for your Mom's comfort and peaceful passage and for your family I pray "blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted".

Anna, Anna, Anna- I am just happy for anyone who gets away from this "rat race" and just relax! That is a beautiful picture.

As for me, I made arrangements for me and my Mom to go to graduation yesterday (that was intense). Moms in another division got phone calls and although I am happy for them, it was a little disheartening for me but I am chose to mantra the "no news is (still) good news". California is still displaying its weird weather...last Monday, a record high of 118 degrees...this Monday rain..go figure! Peace and blessings to all.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Good Morning Everyone! :) What a beautiful day in South Florida...am finally getting some relief from the high temps! And am now remembering why I live here!

Off to work for me...lots to do today. I will try to catch up on my lunch break! Hugs to all of you!

Anna - I am so glad you had such a wonderful little vacation!! Sound divine!! And the pics you posted are gorgeous! It is so good to have that down time and am glad that you had the opportunity to "fall off the face of the earth" for a little while.

Jean - Continuing prayers for your family. I know how you feel and I am relieved to hear you taking comfort in the quickness so that she does not suffer. I truly wished my father had been spared all the pain that he went through. Sending your whole family a warm hug!

Navy Mom - snow of any kind is not normal for this Florida Girl, so I am not sure how to handle that much!! Am glad we do not have the need for a snow stick down here!

Blondie - it is good to read that you made it through the chaotic weekend without much drama! Sending you hugs!!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
My daughter is home. YEAH. She came in late last night. That makes me feel a little better now. At least she will get to see her grandma today. Hope and pray my mom is here today( her mind) so she will know who Christina is.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks MandE's Mom. I will take all the hugs and prays I can get. Today I actually feel the peace that the Lord has given me. Thanks everyone.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks, I will. I will let her know that everyone is proud of her. But I am as trying to knock some since into her. Remember she is the one that wants to go EOD and I am not ready for that. I watched Hurts Locker and it scared the Sh** out of me.
  • Oneofalot

Boy, Blondie are you sure our daughters are not related. That is almost word for word what my daughter said to me about going EOD.
  • Oneofalot

    Thanks Cat
  • Oneofalot

Cat it is dealing with Bombs. It is Explosive Ordinance disposal.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, no it is. That would be nice that are.
  • Oneofalot

That is the web cam I use to see my daughters ship. The USS Ronald Reagan 76
  • Oneofalot

Cat, I am right there with you. I look at that web cam a lot Even when they are out hoping I will see them come in. They do spend a lot of time out and when they are out I miss her even more then when it is in. I know that sounds strange but it is true.
  • Oneofalot

Welcome Alie. Everything will go just fine. You made it once and you have us to help you through it again. I hated it when my daughter was at BC. It was the hardest part of her being in the Navy. Now there are other things that are hard to except.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Hi Labmom and Alie! :) Sending you hugs. I have just recently graduated from those ranks as mom. My daughter graduated boot camp on 9/24. all these wonderful moms helped pull me through...and I am here if you need anything. The moment of truth is a big deal, but good! My daughter got caught up in a snag there, but it all worked out and she is better for it. I am so proud of her. It was nothing too serious, but something that could have been. :)

    Hang in there!!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
Blondie sorry about watching the kid. Hope it will go fast for you and that your work load is very small.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, Yesterday mom actually remembered me. It was so nice to see her smile. I will really miss that when she is gone. I also had lunch with my daughter. She came to my work and we went to her favorite place.( Chinese). She had seen my mom that morning and was having a hard time with it. I feel like I am the only one that is realizing that she will be in a better place once she is gone. I know my daughter knows that but I don't think it really has sunk in yet. How are you doing today?
  • Oneofalot

I don't know if my sister will let anything go. My sister is being a pill about everything. I will see if she wants anything. Maybe that will help her when she get back to her ship and my mom really does pass.
  • Oneofalot

Maybe I will get her a locket with my mom's picture in it. That way when she is not on duty she can wear it or at least have it to remind her of her grandma. Thanks for the idea.
  • Oneofalot

Or maybe I will make her a small quilt with stuff from her grandmother.
  • Oneofalot

Believe me if I get her one I will get one for myself. I will need something to remember my mom's smile. That will be the hardest part not seeing her smile every day I am there.
  • ladypinkhatter

Good morning Ladies. Welcome Alie and LabMom. My daughter is currently in bc and there is a great group of women here.

MandE'sMom- what's the Moment of Truth?

Jean- I also have a sister who has "more drama than necessary" at times. It tends to make tough situations a little tougher for everyone. Hang in there.

Blondie- great idea about the keepsake for Jean's daughter and you have such comforting words...what a gift to share with us...thank you.
  • Oneofalot

you are right Ladypinkhatter. To much drama for this time in my mom's life.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks Cat. I know he is with me. I feel his peace all day.
  • ladypinkhatter

Hi Ladies. I just got a phone call from my recruit! It was great to hear her voice. She said she misses me but hates it there and her emotions were going back and forth. It broke my heart because she said she is struggling with all of her tests and she was upset thinking she might not make it. I held it together and tried to be encouraging. I did tell her no worries no matter what happens because I am proud of her for trying and doing her best.

Other than that, she sounded healthy and made some friends (one she put on the phone who says she is determined help her graduate and that made me feel a little better).
  • ladypinkhatter

The funny thing is that I took off from work today and stayed home and got her call....lol
  • Anna

Good Evening all!! I see we have some good news!!

    Ladypinkhatter,
That is fantastic that you got her phone call today!! Blondie is right - sometimes their emotions are all over the place and they can be really up one time and then way down the next. Problem is we sit home and worry because we think things stay the same for them. She may have had a hard day or two and then things will turn around for her. Just keep encouraging her and pray for her strength, wisdom, and determination!!!

    labmom,
Welcome to the ranks of a bc Mom!! So glad she made it there ok. Did you get a chance to meet or at least talk to her recruiter before she left? He should be able to get her address for you in a couple days. Just remember - we are here for you also!!!!

    Jean,
I've been reading the posts about your Mom's smile. We hold on to memories of my Mom's wicked sense of humor!!! I'm sorry that your sister may make it difficult for you and your daughter to get something of your Mom's. But try to be patient - if she just wants to hang on to everything for now maybe in time she will be able to let some things go. Unfortunately, when my Mom died, my Dad destroyed everything that belonged to her, except clothes, the day after we buried her. He litterally took everything including her house plants and burned them!!!! I wish he would have hoaded everything for himself instead. At least it would still be around!! I'll keep praying for your family and that the situation gets better!!!!

Peace and comfort to all those in need; blessings, good health, and strength for all our sailors. And a good glass of wine for Moms!!!!
  • Anna

    Wade,
So good to hear from you again!!! How are you doing? Buffalo gets that same lake effect like Geauga County would get!! Sometimes you'd get it even worse!!!

    MandE'sMom,
Great hearing from you as well. Wish that trip could have lasted one more day or two!!!
  • Twin Sailors Mom

Good Morning - My daughters are at BC and PIR 10/29/10, any others moms out there? They are in DIV 949 and will be doing their first performance this Friday.
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone
Congrats on your to Sailors. I am going to warn you about the last week of BC. It is so stressful for the parents. Waiting for that call that they are a sailor. I thought was the worst so far of the Navy. My daughters been in since January. We will be here for ya when the time comes. Welcome
