Good afternoon. Jean I am glad that you enjoyed your visit with your daughter. The visits are always too short! I hope you are continuing to recover and will soon be well again.

While Skype can't be used when they are at sea, it sure can when they are in port. I love it!
  • Oneofalot

Thanks DC. I don't know if they will be in port when they are being deployed next. It will be there long deployment yet. For 9 months.
  • Anna

    labmom,
Glad you got her box!!! Now you just need that form letter with her address. But after that, unfortunately, you will have another dry period until you finally start getting those letters!!!!

    Amy's Mom,
lol boy, I've been there before!!!!!
  • Anna

    Jean,
Sorry you had to send your daughter back so soon!!! You probably wished you could have kept her for another week!!!!! Glad you are doing a little better - now we just have to get you back 100%. Take care!!!!
  • Anna

    labmom,
How true!! They really need the letters from home!! They need to be reminded that there is life outside of bc!!! And that it can't last forever!!!! I hope you get that address soon!!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone
  • Oneofalot

Thanks Anna. I am working on 100%. But not today. I feel like I might be at least 60%before work. We will see after work. It was hard to let my daughter go, knowing I won't see for a very long time. But all I can say is I must of done something right. She was suppose to grow up and move on.
  • Oneofalot

    Thanks
  • proudksmom

Hi, I am new to this sight and still trying to figure it all out. My daughter left for BC one week ago today and I miss her dearly. But I know this a postive step for her and I am very proud mom!!
  • Anna

Hello Lizziesmom!!! If you need any help just let us know. We can help you navigate the site and be here to listen and understand about missing your girl. We are all so proud of our girls - but that doesn't make not having them still with us any easier!!!!!
  • Anna

    Blondie,
Sorry I couldn't get on here sooner to answer you before you left work!! The last couple days I have been knee deep in going through all kinds of recipies and cookbooks. When we left Ohio the first time I had three boxes that had cookbooks and such in it. We couldn't pack them all in one box because they just got too heavy. My goal this time is to whittle that down to just those recipes I'm really going to use and get rid of the collections I've had for over 30 years. There are some things I'm just never going to make again so time to clean out!!!!
This weekend we are supposed to go meet Nickolas' Dad who lives not far from Mackinaw City, MI. Then we'll go to Whitefish Bay and see the shipwreck museum and the lighthouse there. That is the site of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Supposed to be cool this weekend but I just hope it's sunny!!
Everyone is doing good - hubby is doing good with the job so all is ok. Haven't met any neighbors yet. No one is home during the day!!!!!

    Jean,
How's your mom? Hope you're getting better more and more each day. Still keeping you in my prayers!!!

    Off to bed now!!!!!!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Good morning Everyone! :) Just checking in after a short hiatus. LIfe has been full of twists and turns on my end, but wanted to come here and say hi. Hope all is well...sending hugs to all of you precious moms!! :)
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Also, I was thinking about "adopting" a sailor for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas and invite them to our dinner. I am in the South Florida area, so if there is a ship here, I thought this would be great if this were possible. Please let me know if you have any information how I can do this. Thanks!
  • Oneofalot

Maybe I'll have to follow what MandE's doing. It will make me feel closer to my daughter since she won't be able to come home. Thanks for the suggestion MandE
  • Oneofalot

Maybe I will call up to the Navy base and see if they have a list of Men or Woman that don't have family and see if I can get hold of one of them.
  • ladypinkhatter

    Good morning Ladies.

LizziesMom- Welcome to this group. There are a wonderful bunch of ladies here.

Jean- it sounds like you are doing/feeling better?

MandE'sMom- That is a great idea.

LabMom- Congrats on the letter!! I am glad you got her address and PIR information and yes, send her a picture of the dog. She will love it. Mine has a Beta fish and I took and sent to her a picture of him.....lol.

I haven't heard from my recruit since last week and that is ok. I know where she is and that she is alright beside life (job, school, etc.) has been keeping me pretty busy.

    Have a great day Ladies!
  • Oneofalot

Ladypinkhatter, I actually went to the Urgent Care yesterday and got something for the cough that was casing me to go into my Asthma to kick into full. So I am getting better little by little. Thanks for asking. Hope you are doing well.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks. NO you don't want asthma. It really isn't fun. I have had it all my life and wasn't really diagnose with it until I was older. So every time I get a cold it makes it get worse. That is why this time has been so hard.
  • Oneofalot

No problem Blondie. We all do it.
dang my temp. fell of my tooth, now I have to go to the dentist. That really sucks.
  • Oneofalot

I've been putting it off because of being sick. I guess now I have to go. YUCK!
  • Oneofalot

    I really hate dentists.
  • Oneofalot

Cat, I had a dentist that thought NO pain No Gain. and if he didn't cause pain then we wouldn't learn to not get cavities. It sort of worked. I hate getting cavities so I brush really well and floss.
  • Oneofalot

My daughter did. Until she saw the Navy dentist. How she is afraid of them. LOL
  • Oneofalot

Cat, I am with you. I brush mine so much the dentist told me I had to slow down and only brush 3 to 4 time a day. Tell you the truth I would rather have a root canal then a crown prep. It is much easier. Then I don't have to worry about the tooth again.
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

My husband brushed "thoroughly and frequently" and he ended up with tissue erosion around the gum line of his teeth. So if you brush frequently, do it correctly and without a lot of pressure. Better yet, use an electric toothbrush. DH thought electric toothbrushes were silly until his peridontist told him he needed to use one or run the risk of losing his teeth.

I went to the dentist today. Many years ago I began going three times a year. Ever since then, the cleanings are not painful because there is little plaque buildup.
  • Oneofalot

Yeah, I make sure I go every 6 months if I like it or not. That is why the dentist told me to slow down on my brushing I was eroding my teeth. I was also making them very sensitive. Since I have slowed down I stopped getting so much cavities and my teeth feel better. One thing is said is to listen to your dentist they usually know what they are talking about.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

ugh...i hate dentists...that is the one thing that causes me great anxiety. I recently have had to go through some extensive work, and I told my dentist...I need a 6 month break! I would rather have anything done to me...than go to the dentist.
  • Oneofalot

Amy's mom, I know it is hard to get that box. Just think it is one step towards PIR. You'll hopefully be able to spend time with her there. Have you got the call that she is there and safe? You will also get one about 2 or 3 weeks after that. Just were there tell you that they love you and are doing ok. It seems to be a longer call then the 1st one. That felt like a they were reading from a script.
  • Oneofalot

Amen to that. They are our JOY! TO watch them grow and became there own self.
  • Oneofalot

Good then. She isn't a grad and go. That would be really hard. My daughter wasn't either she was going to Pensacola a week after BC. All I remember is that she wanted Starbucks and sleep. The next call you will get you will have more time with her. I think I remember it being around 30 to 45 minutes long. I think it depends on the command. Then you get another one just before battle stations if they have time. and then after battle stations. That one is the real roller coaster and we will be here for you while you wait for that one.
  • Oneofalot

Hug Pink for me too. I wish Christina would of had something like that so I could hug it when I miss her.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks. I will do that. I was going to make a quilt for Christina for Christmas.
  • Anna

Wow, thought I'd get on here sooner today but time sure does fly when you're having fun!!(??) I've spent the afternoon trying to sort through the recipes I want to keep and putting them in plastic sheets to organize in my notebook. I'm just about done with this project and understand why it's taken me this many years to get it done. But boy, am I glad it's almost over. Sitting on the living room floor for hours sure makes my butt hurt!!!!!

Wish I had a dentist looking like Andy Gibb!!! Actually I went to a dentist here in MI because I had a cavity forming right at the top of a crown. Had to have the crown cut off, cavity fixed and now I'm waiting for the permanent crown in another week. He is a nice looking older guy and is very calming and gentle. And when I told him I had no dental insurance he gave me a discounted price which I really appreciated!!

    Jean,
Sorry your temp came off - I worry about that every day until the 21st when the new crown should be ready!!!

    Amy,
So glad you got your box. Now you should be getting that first form letter soon. I understand how much we miss our girls. My youngest daughter was always a hugger, always chipper and had a smile that would light up an entire room when she entered!! Look at the picture of her with the hamburger on my page. That's her first meal after PIR!! I miss her smiles, laughs, and hugs most of all.

Lately we've been talking on the phone just about every day. Her love of her life is on deployment on a sub right now so she goes long periods without even email. I'm glad I get a personal gain of more phone calls even if it is at the expense of her going through a rough time with him being gone.
  • Anna

    Jane and MandEsMom,
Glad to hear from both of you. How's everything with you and your sailor???
  • Oneofalot

    Cool Picture Blondie.
Anna, I didn't even do anything for the temp to fall out. Except sleep. I was being very careful.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Hi Anna...Thanks! :) We are doing well, thank you. I am insanely busy...scouts and work have me running. Never a dull moment though! My sailor is terrific. She is in A school at GL now....she has to start it there and then ends up in San Diego. She sounds good and is excited to be in classes...as opposed to being on hold. Thanks for asking.

Anna, I have tons of projects like that...I really need to get to them. Right now I am mending a bedspread that I have put off and put off...oh well. I want to get all the mending done in the next week. Lofty goal, as there is quite a bit of it.

Hope everyone is dentally doing okay! :) Jean...hope things are better.

Amy - My heart goes out to you. I got my daughters box on 8/5 and I remember that feeling. While it was just a couple months ago, if feels like an eternity ago. Sending you lots of hugs!

Jane, thanks for the tip! That is so true! I have found that I am sore everywhere when I leave the dental office...because I just spent an hour tensing my whole body. I have to remind myself to relax the muscles in my back, legs, etc. Thankfully, I have about a month before I have to go back. :) Slowly getting things taken care of.

Well, I better get myself to work! :) I will check back in here in a bit. Hugs to all you fantastic moms!
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, I really don't know what caused it. All I know is that my real crown was ready for me last week when I got sick. So it will be a relief to get it on. Now they don't have to numb my mouth to get it on. The temp is off that is the worse part.
  • Oneofalot

Yeah, I hope nothing else goes wrong. I really don't want to see the dentist until it is my 6 month cleaning. YUCK!
  • Oneofalot

No more fever. YEAH! But am still stuffy and the cough from HELL has set in. The doctor gave me something for it so it won't cause my asthma to kick in. But it is bad. Other wise I feel almost back to normal. A few more days and I will be back. How are you feeling?
  • Oneofalot

They are saying that we will have sun this weekend. I don't know. It is raining now. We are into fall, which means we will rain until next August. LOL.
  • Anna

    Jean,
I know what you mean about it not taking anything to have those temps come off. That's why I worry about it so much also!!!! I have one more week from today till my permanent crown is ready. So they didn't just put your temp back on? That would freak me out to have it off for even a day!!!!! You are a strong woman!!!

    Blondie,
Love your pict. You sure can tell she is your daughter - she looks so much like you!!!!
  • Oneofalot

No they were closed and they wanted me to put it back in place. That is so gross. I don't think they realize how bad it feels to touch. YUCK! Don't let yours come out. This actually was the first one of mine to come out. I never have had trouble with them. So I think it is the cold that is causing it problems.
  • Anna

    Hi Joanne,
I remember you and miss you!!!
  • ladypinkhatter

Hi Ladies. I missed quite a conversation. I too have had dental issues. A couple of days ago a piece of my tooth broke off. They said it was from brushing to hard; however, I have to wait until the end of the month to get it fixed (my insurance is not as great as I thought). I'm not in any pain...thank you God!

    Blondie- your daughter is beautiful.

Anna- how's the recipe "purging" going or have you finished already.

    Jean- Get well very soon!

Hi JoAnne- I remember you too. I hope all is well with you.
  • proudksmom

Hello All, I am new to this sight and my daughter is in her second week of BC. Wow, I thought things might get easier but just had my first breadown since she left. Missing her and feeling afraid that she might be struggling although I know how determined and strong she is and she worked sooo hard to prepare herself for BC. Any advice to keep my sainity until I hear from her??
  • Anna

OK Ladies, have to ask for a prayer for Jennifer. Tomorrow she has to drive about 2 hours to Sandusky, OH to take her first physical fitness test as an active duty sailor. She is afraid she just can't get the run done in time. Just say a prayer that she passes her test!!! She has to be there by 9:00 am. Why it can't be a little closer to where she lives we're not too sure!!

    ladypinkhatter,
Got all the purging done and now I'm organizing all the recipes I'm keeping into my ring binder. I've had this notebook for years and it's always just been crammed with loose papers. Now I'm putting everything in page protectors and sorting them!!! I won't know what to do with this when it's all done!!!!!!

    Maggie,
So good to hear from you again!!!! I'm glad Mary's healing nicely from her surgery and still doing well in school. It's amazing sometimes the pressures our girls have on them - but they manage to pull through it!!! I'll keep her in my prayers as well.
  • Anna

    lizziesmom,
Hang in there Mom!!! Yes, it is hard on us when we don't know what they are going through and it takes so long to hear from them. They are kept so busy they don't have time to think about what is going on at home, but all we have is time to worry - - - even if we are busy as well!!! (Moms are great multi-taskers!!!!) Sometimes you just have to have those little breakdowns and just cry your eyes out!!! There is nothing wrong with that!!! Makes you feel a little better afterwards!!! And know that we are here and will be with you every step of the way. Vent here - we've all been there!!! And keep sending her those encouraging, upbeat letters!!!
  • proudksmom

Thanks you sooo much Anna for the kind words and encouragement!! It was much needed today!!
  • Oneofalot

Good Morning to Everyone. Happy Friday to All.
