  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Good Morning all...I am on a little later than I wanted to be, but finally made it. Its been a busy morning....AND I got to brag about my sailor. So we are off to a great start!

Blondie! I missed that pic yesterday! She is BEAUTIFUL!! That pic just warmed my heart, and I dont know her! She is a very special young lady!

    Joanne - HI :)

Pink, Anna, Jean - Good luck with those dental issues!

LIzziesmom and Amy's mom - I know it is hard! Sending you both hugs! It is a very hard transition to make, but I do think it is harder on us than them...which is a blessing. We are the worriers (and the multi-tasker...thanks Anna) and while they are going through some tough times, they come out just fine and most of the time even better! If you need anything, just holler! Im here most days and if you PM me, I get a message to my phone! Hang in there, Mamas!

Anna, I have been praying for Jennifer...let us know how she does!

Well, off to get stuff done...Have a FABULOUS FRIDAY!!
  • Oneofalot

I am done with the dentist. YEAH. It went well. They got the permanent one in with out putting my mouth to sleep.
    Hi MandE'smom.
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Jean, glad that the work with the dentist is done. I know that you have breathed a sigh of relief.

Anna, when you want to come organize my recipe box/notebook, etc., you are welcome. We can test a few recipes along the way.

Hi, Mary! I enjoy your updates and hearing about Mary's progress.

Ouch, Ladypink, I would not like a broken tooth. My teeth are sensitive enough without that.

Lizziesmom and Amy, we always ache when our sailors are hurting. It is hard when we are far from them and can't give real hugs. Remember when they vent, you hurt but then you still hurt. It is hard to realize that they quickly move on because they are so special to us and we want to protect them.

Anna, many prayers for Jennifer's success and safe journey.

Blondie, thanks for posting your sailor's picture. She is a lovely young lady.

This is a very rainy and windy today. It is supposed to last all day and much of tomorrow. The power went out a little while ago and it makes us glad, once again, that we have a generator!
  • Oneofalot

We still have rain. Like I say it will rain until August now.
  • Oneofalot

Last year we did not get snow. They are saying that it might be a bad year for it this year. Which will mean one or two days of it. I hope we get more. I really like the stuff. It is so pretty when it first comes down, but the drivers are real idiots.
  • Oneofalot

I always pray for it to snow on the grass only. There was one time that it really did snow only on the grass. I think the streets were to warm. It was cool.
  • Anna

    Lizziesmom,
You're very welcome!! I hope you have a great day today!!

    Amysmom,
    Same wish for you!! Sending both of you mom cyber hugs {{{ }}}

    Jean,
So glad you had a pain free, successful dental visit!!!! I hope that good dental karma reaches to me and ladypinkhatter!!

    DC,
I would LOVE to come visit you and help you organize your recipes!!! But I have just a few requests - - you have to have a soft floor so after sitting all that time my butt doesn't hurt!!! You have to let me bring a couple bottles of wine to have with those recipes we try, and I want to enjoy the beautiful scenery so I need nice weather!!!! Ok? - - - - ok!!!!

Now for the good news!!! Thank you for all your prayers and good thoughts for my sailor Jenn. She passed everythiing!!! She needs to shave just under two minutes from her run time according to her recruiter, but her time was within the requirements. I think he just wants her to be better!! Her situps and pushups were beyond what was required so she is good. And hopefully she made it back to Akron in time to take her physics exam so she doesn't have to worry about making it up. And since her final lab today was cancelled she gets to go flying this afternoon. Yes, on top of everything else that girl has going on she is getting her private pilot's license!! This whole flying thing she is just thrilled about scares the h e "double-hockey-sticks" out of me; but of course I would never say that to her!!!! Where she got this pilot bug I have no idea!!! But getting her private pilot's license now will shave a couple weeks off off her flight school once she gets to Pensacola. My hairdresser is thrilled tho' - - gotta keep covering up this grey hair Jenn gives me!!!!!!!!!!
    So thank you again!!!!
  • Oneofalot

That is so cool. She will be getting her pilots license. I wish my daughter would of kept her idea of wanting to fly. She gave it up when she graduated and the recruiter told her that there was no room for a female pilot. So she decided to go special opts. You talk about grey hair. Try special opts. EOD at that. Yikes! Would not be able to tell her what I really feel because she really does need someone on her side.
  • Anna

    Jean,
I am so with you!!! My daughter wants to drop bombs!!!!! So what color are you trying to hang on to???? Just so we don't compete with demand for the same color!!!! I'm golden brown!!!!!
  • Oneofalot

    What do you me color?
  • Anna

    Jean,

LOL!!! I was talking about covering up the grey hair our daughters give us!!!
Between you and I we may end us using up all that's available so I don't want to compete with what color you use!!!!!
  • Oneofalot

I usually go with Med Blond but it really doesn't cover up well. I have to do it about every 3 weeks.
  • MandE'smom(Hi, I'm Mary)

Hope everyone has a happy and blessed weekend!! :)
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Back in my youthful days I was a strawberry blonde, although everyone argued more red than blonde. Since I didn't want to be a red-head, I claimed blonde. When it started turning gray, I resorted to dying it reddish blonde because no other color looked natural. Finally, one day, I gave up the Mickey Mouse and let it go. It was snow white. I was teaching a distant education and could see myself in one of the monitors. It glowed white ... a bit of a shock! I kind of hoped that post chemo hair would be a color and curly ... not to be ... a couple waves and snow white.

Blondie, I know how hard it is to be out of contact when they are at sea. The g'daughter has been at sea since May and only four Skype chats in that time ... one in Korea, one in Singapore, one in Manilla and one in Thailand. We do keep in contact with e-mail. That is really an improvement over the "olden days."

Anna, that's great that your daughter is earning her pilot's license. Flying on and off a carrier would scare me. Well any flying scares me. But I did have a father and two brothers who were Navy pilots. They all loved it. One nephew was a Navy navigator and said that the carriers really gave one a big rush.

Jean, special ops would scare me, too.

Anna, I have some comfy chairs, wine glasses and beautiful scenery. We can rotate between the house and the cabin on the shore.
  • Oneofalot

I look at it as special ops is better then being a Marine. That was her first choice. And they dropped her because of a car accident. I wish she would pick something less stressful for us.
  • Oneofalot

You are So correct. I think she lives for that.
  • Anna

    DC,
    That sounds like heaven!!

My project is FINISHED!!! All recipes put away on a shelf and I'm sending a few things to the kids that I thought they'd be interested in!! Now all my collection will fit in one quarter of a box instead of filling two!!!!

Tomorrow morning hubby and I are heading out for another MI excursion. We call it our Michigan bucket list. Places we want to see before the snow comes!! I may not be on this weekend because I find many of these off the beaten paths don't have internet!!! So I hope everyone has a wonderful, restful weekend. For those I know who work on the weekends I still hope it's less stressful for you!!!
  • ladypinkhatter

Hi Ladies. I got three letters from my daughter today!!! (One envelope had other envelopes for both of her grandmothers...lol). She said she is still struggling with her tests (and ask that I (we) pray that she pass the rest of her tests). She had two fillings and got arch supports for her boots. She said she is seeing physical therapist because of something with her knees (hoping they are just getting use to the arch supports, but it wouldn't hurt to pray about that too). Said I'm still blessing her from so far away (heart is melting...), seem really grateful for the letters.

I can't wait for her to get the cards that sent to her, her bunkmate, and a recruit is not receiving any mail (I asked her to give to them). She will be so surprised, but then again maybe she won't...lol.

Anna- CONGRATULATIONS! Mission Accomplished! Enjoy your trip, you earned it!

Blondie & Jean- Special Ops, EOD.....my hair has a few strands of grey from the teenage years, but I venture to say would be completely white if my daughter chose either one of those ratings...lol. I am so proud just to be in the company of Moms of these two heroes!
  • ladypinkhatter

Blondie- thank you for correcting me. You are right!! They are ALL heroes and I didn't mean to insinuate that they (our other US Sailors) weren't and I did not mean to give the impression that one rating was better than the other. My daughter is Undesignated and may end up "chipping paint" however, I am just as PROUD of her and her contribution as I am of anyone elses child.
My apologies to ALL the Moms :-)

    LabMom39- HooYah on the letter!
  • ladypinkhatter

I am looking forward to a "relaxing" weekend of looking for work, cleaning the house, and my big project.....(inspired by Anna...lol).....cleaning and organizing my daughter's room!! Pray for me :-0

I'm hoping everyone has a blessed weekend.
  • ladypinkhatter

This weekend turned out to be the best weekend so far! I got a call from my recruit today! Two letters yesterday and a phone call today. She sounded healthy, happy and upbeat. We talked for a long time and then she still had time to call her grandparents. Everyone was so excited.

Blondie- no worries. I don't take things personally...I try to learn from my experiences and what you (and all of the ladies here) say either teach me or remind/refresh me and I appreciate that. ;-)
  • proudksmom

Hi Amys mom, You are not being overdramatic at all. I went through a very rough night this week as well where I missed Liz so much and felt concerned and worried. Its just the love, care and concern for our kids that can get the best of us sometimes. Hope you are feeling better!!
  • Oneofalot

Good Morning to Everyone. Hope your weekend was fantastic.
  • Oneofalot

Yeah we had a frost on the weekend also. They say we are going to have a bad winter.
  • Oneofalot

The farmers aliminac said that it was to be wet and cold. Sorry about the spelling.
  • Oneofalot

    That is right.
  • Anna

    Hello Everyone - - I'm home!!!
Had a wonderful visit to Charlevoix, MI to meet Nicholas's Dad. It was a wonderful time. He took us around town (another real small town so that didn't take long!!) then we went out on his boat for a short ride and then had dinner. Very fun time. Then hubby and I drove to Whitefish Point which is where the Edmund Fitzgerald almost made it to safety but unfortunately sank with all crew members onboard 15 miles from the bay. We stayed in a refurbished 1923 Coast Guard Crew Quarters. Very pleasant!!!

    NavyMom,
I heard on the weather forecast Friday night the first mention of snow in our forecast for this week!!! It has still been really nice here in the UP up in the 50s during the day - cold at night. It could stay like this for months yet but everyone is very helpful in pointing out to me that that won't happen!!!!

I am so happy that several of our new moms have received letters from their daughters the past few days!!! Those letters are so precious to us - I still have all of Catherine's and my son's!!! I hope all our recruit sailors are doing well and dealing with all that bc throws their way!!!!

    Theresa,
You're right - we haven't heard from you in awhile. Glad to hear everything is going well with your sailor!! And congratulations to her for her award - that is awesome. Thank you for bragging - we love to hear all those fantastic accomplishments.

Hope everyone else is doing well and wishing all you moms a great week!!!
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

We have had some lovely weather but chilly weather here in Maine.

There is a very large (super) typhoon that just hit the Phillipines. I hope that all are safe on our ships.
  • ladypinkhatter

    Hello everyone.

@Amy'sMom- Congrats on the letter! I am glad all is well with her. I agree with Blondie....wait until you hear her voice. I'm four weeks into bootcamp with my recruit and most of the family got a call from her last weekend and I think we were all doing the happy dance...lol!

Anna- welcome back! Glad to hear you had a good time.
  • Anna

    Amy's Mom,
So happy you got your PIR letter!! What a girl to be able to put that much in that little space. How wonderful!!!

    DC,
Wow!!! I'm with you - - I hope all our ships and sailors over there are safe!!

    Thank you ladypinkhatter!!

What did everyone else do for their weekend?
Oh and I meant to say earlier - - I'm not sure if I should be glad or if I should apologize for inspiring so many other moms to start projects!!! That could be a bad thing and soon you will all come after me for starting something!!! ha ha ha
Hope not!!! Let's just blame it on the upcoming winter season and everyone is getting their "nest" in order!!!!
  • Anna

    Blondie,
Ooo that sounds like fun (drinks around the fire) but I don't really see you stopping long enough!!! Wish I had some leaves to give you. Yesterday I was driving back from the post office and past a small park. A worker was blowing all these leaves into a big pile and I so wanted to stop and run through those leaves!!! I love walking in the fall and kicking up the leaves!!! Just the little kid in me still alive and kicking!!!!

    Hello Joanne,
    How are you??!!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning/Afternoon to Everyone
  • Anna

    Good afternoon Jean!
How are you feeling these days?
  • Oneofalot

I feel about 98% better. I think stress is causing a lot of my problem now. My boss is not very nice these days and the person that has to do my job when I am on vacation is not happy because I am taking the last 2 days off. So I guess I am back to normal if there is normal.
  • Anna

    Jean,
Well glad to hear you are almost there!! Maybe those two days off will get you to 100!! Yes, I've noticed in past jobs that co-workers never like it when someone takes time off and they have to cover. But then it's fine when they are the ones taking off!!! So don't let it get to you. Sorry your boss is a douche bag lately!!
  • Oneofalot

Lately???? Try for the last 5 years he has been here. I liked my old supervisor. She was nice.
  • Anna

Whooppss - sorry!! Make that super douche bag!!!
  • Oneofalot

Yeah! That is right. I could really give you stories about him. LOL
  • Anna

One of the toughest jobs I EVER had was just after I moved back up to OH. I had been a school secretary for years in GA, and worked all the way up to Principal's Secretary in the largest high school in the county. So when I found a PS job in a Catholic high school in OH I thought it was the best place in the world to be. But the Principal turned out to be the worst person I've ever encountered in my life. I've never met anyone like her ever and all my complaints to the President just fell on deaf ears. Everyone knew she was a horrible person but they just didn't have the means to do anything about her. I even contacted a lawyer to file a claim about her creating a hostile work environment and he told me OH was a free will state and I had the free will to leave. There was nothing I could do to keep my job!!! I never prayed so much in my life but nothing was going to change that woman. I can only believe that someday she will have to answer for her actions. And it wasn't just me - she ran good teachers away as well!!!
  • Oneofalot

That really was bad. This is how this guy is. There was people in this company working here for 20 years that left because he is not a good supervisor at all. When I was in a catholic school for a year I hated it. They were really bad. I hate rulers to this day.
  • Anna

Sorry I left there for awhile. I had to clean up the kitchen and hubby and I went out to dinner. I finally got the last of the stuff in the kitchen put away that was just sitting on the kitchen table because it had no where to go. I got a cup rack to hang up our coffee cups and put some things on a shelf we installed above the washer and dryer!! It's kinda sad but if we buy something to make a meal with during the week I have no cupboard place to put it. So right now I have two jars of spahetti sauce, and some cans of tomatoes sitting in the closet in front of my washer!!! Oh and a bottle of wine is sitting in front of the dryer!!! But now we have table we can sit and eat at!!!!!

Don't you wish all supervisors had to attend special supervisor school before they could get appointed to that level?? I know some people would FLUNK!!!
  • Anna

    Cat,
Yes, super douche bag applies to male or female!!! My Principal was a female and she had no business being in any level of management. I agree, I never had a problem admittng when I made mistake, but I never cared for being judge a lower form of human just because I made a mistake.
Hubby and I are on a short term job assignment in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We are in a really small apartment which is actually smaller than the first apartment I lived in in San Diego!!!! But since it is short term I just do the best I can.
Hope you don't flood out too much there. What part of the state are you in?
  • DC - G'mother of My Fav Sailor

Good morning! I am sorry about your thumb, Blondie. It always seems that when you get a boo-boo, you hit it on everything.

It is a lovely day here!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone
  • Oneofalot

This has been a virus for a long time. It is real. They messed up computers at my work because of it. So don't do it. Work told us that UPS/USPS Fed EX will not send a email to you that would warn you of that. They will call you if there is a problem.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie I have the same problem. If you find a solution let me know. I also suffer from dry hands. The doctor told me to put hand lotion that has now water in it on every 2 hours. That seems to be helping.
  • Oneofalot

Try hand lotion it seems to work for me. I don't get near as many paper cuts and nasty file cuts when I do that.
  • Oneofalot

No Kidding! That is really true. When it happens I seem to cut it more then once or bang it on something all day long.
  • Anna

    Blondie,
Oh have no fear about that bottle of wine!! I haven't finished up the open bottle yet and I can only fit one large bottle in our little fridge at a time. I have two smaller bottles that I put on the shelf over the dryer but didn't have room for the big bottle up there!!!! I make sure I NEVER run out of wine!!!!

    Cat,
I used to take a Greyhound bus from San Diego to Long Beach many times. My roommate's family lived in Artesia and I'd go home with her on the weekends to get off the base. Had some fun times with her!!! That was another whole lifetime away!!!!
  • ladypinkhatter

Cat- I'm in the San Bernardino area and yes, it was bad but I been in worse weather.

Anna- I don't drink but a nice quiet place by the fireplace sounds good right now

Jean- glad you are feeling better.

Blondie-sorry to hear about your thumb. Believe me I know those papercuts and etc can be terrible especially on top of the thumb injury....ouch!

I can't even start to tell you about the SDBB's I work for.....that's the main reason I am looking for work now.....does anyone practice ethics anymore??
