Blondie,
You know it's funny you mention about the grass is always greener . . . . it may seem to some that hubby and I are living an envious life. Always getting to see new places is a plus side but I miss having a "home". A place where I remember raising my kids, friends we've known for years, and a place where the kids can come back to for visits. This lifestyle can be extremely lonely because we are never anywhere long enough to make friends or to really get to know people. And although our home is cozy and comfy it is so pared down to just the essentials that there are no "memories" with us except for a few pictures. So I envy those of you who are living in the same house where your kids grew up, where you know everyone on the street with you, and where you can walk into your kid's room and have those little reminders of their lives. And more importantly - your kids can say hey mom I'm coming home for ------------ to see you and the family!!!!!!
Now I am very thankful that hubby and I are healthy and he is able to stay employed, and yes, we do get to see some beautiful places in this great country of ours, but there is a tradeoff!!
Oh but to answer your question - - nothing really special this weekend. We might take a drive to hunt for moose!! (With a camera - the only kind of hunting we do!!)
There is an area not far from us where they released moose a few years back to boost the population and it would be cool to see one!!
Had our first snowflakes this morning!!!!
DanandCarleysMom,
So sorry you are hurting today and I so understand the feeling of not being able to do anything for them!! Except pray - - and I will definately keep your son in my prayers that he surprises even himself and passes all his comps and remaining tests. Sometimes they need to know that many people are pulling for them and praying for them so they can bolster their confidence. And all any of us can ask of them is to do their very best!! And if they do then that is a success whether it's enough to pass or not!!!! So lets lift your son up in prayer!!
You're right to not want to burden your daughter with the struggles her brother is going through right now. What you might do is just tell her to include her brother in her prayers for a good outcome on his tests and not elaborate anymore on it than that!!
Sending NavyMom hugs your way!! Keep us posted!!! { ' ' }
Ok - an update on our previous dental stories!! I had my appointment to have my new crown put on last Thursday. (Was really happy Jean that the temporary stayed in place during this waiting period.) So new crown goes on no problem - - basically I'm done. Then dentist says he's going to look in the gum tissue above my front tooth that was a little swollen and red. He numbs me up (thank God) and a half hour later digs out a small piece of cement that made it's way up under the gum from getting crowns on my front teeth over 4 years ago. I think I also "donated" a half pint of blood!!!! When he got done his assistant had to apply pressure to my gum for several minutes to stop the bleeding. He said he also removed some inflammed gum tissue. Needless to say once the novocain wore off my mouth hurt all the way up to my upper cheek!!!! Even having hubby kiss me goodby Friday morning brought tears to my eyes. I took some tylenol PM Thursdy night and slept for 11 hours!!! That stuff always knocks me out good!!!! Anyway - looks like everything is healing and the pain is considerably better today. I can eat without wincing!!!!
Heidi's mom,
Great to see you!! So she made it safe and sound. Now comes the dry period where you won't get to hear from her for awhile. We'll help you through this. Be prepared for the kid in the box and the form letter, but start writing her and number them so that when you do get her address you can send them all off and she can read them in order!!!!!
Anna, that doesn't sound like a pleasant visit to the dentist at all. I am glad he found it before it became seriously inflamed. What you had was bad enough!
DanandCarleysmom (started to shorten that but D&C mom didn't sound quite right), I will definitely keep your son in my prayers. I know that nuke school is very hard and I can only imagine how difficult it is to come this far and to have to change plans. I also know that you are hurting because we always hurt when our children hurt. Many hugs to you as well.
Hi, Heidi's mom! Welcome to our group.
What an overcast day we had today. It almost looked like snow but it was too warm. Bangor did have a few flurries over the weekend. Winter's a-comin'!
DC,
Everything seems to be healing and the intense pain has lessened so I think I'm going to make it!!! We had a few snow flakes here the other day but nothing to stick. I did go out and buy a snow shovel so I'm ready at least!!!!
Hi everyone. Sorry that I haven't been able to get on. I had a med reaction that has sent me to urgent care more times then I can count on my hands. The doctor has taken me off of work for the rest of the week due to giving me steroids that will cause me emotional ups and downs. I hope it will help with itching and hives. My son put oven mits on me so I would not scratch. LOL. He let me take them off to type this.
Hi everyone. I have been busy trying to wrap things up at work before bc graduation and it seems like the more that I get off of my desk, the more they put on it! On top of that I have a job interview and that dental issue to still contend with.
Jean- I hope you feel better and that they have your reaction under control.
Heidi'sMom- welcome. There are wonderful moms and support here. I was were you are six weeks ago and don't know (and don't want to know) how I would have faired without this website and especially this group.
NavyMom and everyone in the MidWest- be as safe as possible! May God (continue to) be with you.
Jean,
Wow, sorry to hear you have been having a rough time with this med reaction. Hope it gets all under control soon!!!!
ladypinkhatter,
I hate when I'm trying to get things cleared up and someone drops off something more!!! Arghhhh!!!! Just do what you can and then get outta there!!! PIR will take your mind off ANYTHING else!!!! Hope your dental appt is short and sweet. I tried to soak up all the bad dental karma for everyone else out there so you should be smooth sailing!!!!!!! ha ha
NavyMom,
Yes, I feel like I'm being blown into the lake!! This wind is wicked. We lost power twice today for only for a quick off and then back on. I hear southern OH had some tornados but I checked with Jenn and she is ok. Hope Blondie hasn't had any problems.
Hope everyone else is doing well and especially all our sailors!!!!
Good Afternoon to very one. I am much better today. The itching is not so bad today. I think the doctor has found what is bothering me. I have bad news though so pray that my mom passes soon. She is just suffering now. She has what is called death rattles. Hospice has said she has probably a day or two before she is gone. Pray that my sister holds up. She and I have not been seeing eye to eye for along time and now are not really talking. Most of it is because of her husband. He is a jerk. So please just pray that all goes well. Thanks everyone.
Blondie, nice pictures. I like them.
DanandCarleysmom,
I am so sorry your son didn't pass. I'm sure you've had many thoughts that something better will come out of this so I won't try to give you all the "feel good" responses. I will say that you certainly deserve to be "a mess sometimes" and I would give you a steady supply of tissues for all your tears. Sometimes our greatest wishes for our kids don't work out for them. You can still wait until your son finds out what he will get reassigned to before you tell your daughter. I know your heart is heavy right now and I will continue to pray for you and your family.
Jean,
Such sadness for you to be dealing with. I'm sure all this additional stress is not helping your medicine reaction. I know you are dealing with so much right now. Sorry about your relationship with your sister. When me and my siblings were going through this similar scenario with our mother I had to keep fighting my oldest brother to have any say so at all. He even said to me one time that I had no say in decisions that were made and I reminded him that I had a 1/4 say just like he did!!! It's heartbreaking to have to deal with that on top of everything else and I wish I could help you but all I can do is to keep you in my thoughts and prayers and pray for peace, comfort, and peace within your family members. Sending you big, way BIG, NavyMom hugs!!! I hope it helps you a little bit!!!! {{{ ' ' }}}
DanandCarley'smom- sorry to hear about your son but I truly believe that God has something better in store for him and it is amazing how resilient our kids can be.
Jean- I am praying that your Mom goes peacefully with no more suffering. My condelences to you and your family. It is my prayer also that you and your sister can patch things up before your Mom goes home to be with the Lord.
Blondie- you look great with short or long hair...it doesn't matter because your smile outshines your hair :-)
NavyMom and all of the Moms in the MidWest- I cannot imagine what you all are going through (I was born and raised on the west coast) with that being said...stay safe and most of all....warm.
Still getting ready for PIR. It is two weeks away and I want to start packing now! This morning, all I can think about is giving her a GREAT BIG HUG when I see her! I designed and created what I call a "Battle Station 21 encouragement card" on behalf of all the Navy Moms in our division and was surprised by the response of the moms, so today I am in production to print and send them out...LOL! Have a great day.
Good Morning Everyone.
I have bad news. My lovely mom passes away last night, so if you don't hear from me for a few days it is because I have to get things in order. I want to thank all of you for the prayers you have give to me and my mom. I will miss her really bad.
Thanks Ladypinkhatter, I had come a long way to feeling better about my sister. I decided yesterday as I watched my mom rest in peace that I don't want to fight with her and make thing even harder. That was what my mom wanted. Was for all of us to get together and stop fighting.
Thanks everyone. I do have a since of peace with this. I know she is in a better place. She is now able to walk and talk and move like she has not been able to for months.
Blondie, I like the short hair! It is very flattering.
DanaandCarleysmom, I think most of us can imagine the pain you are suffering for your son. I am sorry that in the end it did not work out. I am glad that he is turning to family for support. I know of a sailor who turned away after not passing nuke school. That to me is even sadder. Please do not consider it a year lost because he has certainly become a stronger person. Also, I am sure that Carley is proud of him as you and your husband are. She knows the hard work he put into it.
Jean, I'm sending you many hugs. I know how difficult that it and the mixed feelings after losing someone who has been so sick. I am so pleased that you are letting go of your conflict with your sister. That will help both of you to heal.
To those of you in the midwest: I've been thinking about you with all those high winds and storms. Stay safe.
I was anticipating a Skype chat with my sailor soon but it will be delayed because of a typhoon heading towards Yokosuka. There were two ships in port and they have been sent to sea to ride it out. Those that were at sea are staying out until it is over. So long as all are safe, I am happy!
Yesterday, DH and I went for a lovely drive along the foggy, stormy coast. We had a delightful lunch at one of our favorite restaurants in Bar Harbor. The rain is gone but there is still a light fog.
Jean,
My sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. Even when we know it's coming it's still never easy to say goodby and to not have them in our day to day lives. I still miss my mom!! I think as Moms ourselves we miss them deeply. Praying you and your sister can pull together for each other during this difficult time.
Hi everyone. Today has been very busy with getting everything in order for a services. I guess it will be on Wednesday due to all souls day and all saints day on Monday and Tuesday. It is nice to at least be done with the busy stuff. Now the hard part. Nothing to do until then. I will have you guys to help me through this quiet time before the rest of the storm. Thanks.
I hope everyone is doing well and no one got hurt or lost anything with the storms in the mid west and the weird weather else were.
Jean,
Yes we will be here with you through this quiet time and the rest of the storm. Hopefully that storm will just blow over and turn into a whimper!!!!! Your mother is at peace and now the rest of you need to feel peace as well.
We also had the really high winds. Several trees alongside the apartment complex's driveway were snapped in half but no damage to anything that I can tell. It was scary tho listening to it howl!!!
NavyMom, do we have to push that winter on us??? I have been seeing some massive snowplowing equipment lately and the owner of the apartments asked today if I had experience with 300 inches of snow!!!!!
Good morning Jean. How are you holding up? It's been kind of quiet on here last weekend and if they are like me probably recuperating from Holloween weekend :-)
I am holding up well. I am glad to be back to work this week. Last week I would not want to repeat. With my hives and my mom and all. Halloween was very slow for us. We did not get a lot of kids to the house. How was your weekend.
I haven't been on this page in a while. Kind of just checking in I guess. So sorry to hear about your mom Jean. I will keep you and your family in my prayers as well as those of you have been sick or are having difficulties. We can all use prayer, Right? We had loss in our extended family last week as well. My AO/sailor daughter is married to a sailor. He was supposed to have PIR this past Friday. His sister and her husband were in a 9 car pile-up on the interstate. His sister, as well as 4 others, did not make it. She passed away from serious head trauma. Her husband has crushed ribs and a punctured lung but he is going to be fine. He was released from the hospital in time to attend his wife's visitation and funeral. My son-in-law was able to finish battle stations and fly home right after the capping ceremony to be with his family. My daughter was able to come home as well. She was on hold for c-school. She went back yesterday and her classes started today. My son-in-law has another week to be with his family then he will go on to A-school. I hope this is very good week for everyone here. Calm winds and following seas.....
Lala,
I am so sorry to hear about your family's loss. My prayers are definately going out to your daughter and her husband. What a terrible tragedy!! I am glad he was able to get home and your daughter also.
Jean,
Hoping your life gets to calm down for you now. You have been through so much lately. Praying you get completely better now!!!
Blondie,
Congrats to your daughter!!! Enjoy those bragging rights!!!!!! Hope you enjoy your weekend!! Especially being away from the office for awhile!!
We only had 3 small groups of kids come to our door for Halloween. Living in an apartment complex and a residential area behind us, I was expecting a lot more kids. I wonder if being on a Sunday night many parents didn't let their kids go out and "celebrated" on Saturday? Oh well - - glad I didn't buy too much candy!!!
Lala, That's terrible news. I know that is so hard on everyone. I am glad that your son-in-law was able to finish battle stations before going home. Your daughter, her husband and the family will be in my prayers.
Jean, Many positive thoughts coming your way. I hope that life returns to a more normal state.
Blondie, I don't think I congratulated your daughter on her accomplishments. Enjoy taking pride in her.
We don't get trick or treaters because we live in the middle of the woods out n the country. At least we also do not stock up on Halloween candy.
DC,
That's good that you know you won't have trick or treaters. We weren't sure how many we'd have so we bought just one of the big bags. We saw so many neighbors decorating up so I was thinking we must have lots of kids. I could have gotten away with so much less!!!!! Oh well - - next Halloween we won't be here and will have to wait and see where we'll be next!!!
Jean,
I couldn't remember what day you said the services were so I'm glad you told us again! How is the relationship with your sister? Are things getting a little better at least until everything is all done? Keeping you and your family in my prayers still.
Hello all! I have been in limbo since 9/27 when my daughter was asmo'ed due to injury - got the call today she is FFDed back into division 008! Looks like PIR on 11/24 for us! not only do I get to see her graduate I also get to spend thanksgiving with her and my sister that lives in Gurnee! Woo hoo I am so stoked! I hope everyone is doing well- I have read some bad news on here and my prayers are with all those that are struggling. I hope you all find peace. Congrats to Blondie I know how proud you are.
lindalav,
congratulations to your daughter getting back on track with bc and PIR!!! How exciting that you get to spend Thanksgiving with your sailor and your sister!!! Keep us posted as the time gets near for PIR!!!!
I am sending my first care package to my daughter and was going to include a "birthday" present of a Kindle gift card (on-line books), an I-tunes card or even a pre-paid Visa/American Express. Do the sailors on ships get enough internet time to download books and music and are the signals strong enough to work in "international waters." All the prepaid gift cards said for use in the United States-does anyone know how or where to purchase one that can be used internationally,
Thanks for the help.
Hi everyone. I finally found a moment to check in. As you can tell from the blue candle battlestations is tomorrow and I am still getting ready for this trip (graduation next week...YEAH!), on top of going on interviews, filling out job apps, and going to work. I am so excited. Her letters are a little more upbeat and it appears her sense of humor is back
:-). I can't wait to see her!
Jean- I think of you often and hope you are ok (under the circumstances)
Blondie, Anna, and everyone- miss you all
Lindalav- glad to hear your recruit is back on track and a Thanksgiving visit...awesome!!
gsdkids,
Sorry I don't have any info to give you about the oversees cards. It's been several years since my son was overseas and I know things change so much what he did probably wouldn't apply now.
ladypinkhatter,
Keeping you and your sailor in prayers today for successful BS. Keep us posted!!!!
Jean,
How are you doing today?? How was the service?
Off to get some pictures printed! Hubby and I are going to visit a very dear family priest friend that lives about an hour away from us!!! He baptised the twins over 20 years ago and then moved away not long after that. It will be so good to see him again!!!! We've kept in touch every year but to see him again in person!! So I'm taking lots of pics of the kids so he can see how they are now!!
good luck lady pink hat and i have my blue candles lit for all the recruits going through battlestations! have had them lit since October and decided I would keep them going for all our sailors.

Oh well - - next Halloween we won't be here and will have to wait and see where we'll be next!!!

I couldn't remember what day you said the services were so I'm glad you told us again! How is the relationship with your sister? Are things getting a little better at least until everything is all done? Keeping you and your family in my prayers still.
