Blondie, No you are right. It took a good year or so to calm down after my dad died. I figure it will probably be that long with my mom. But then I was closer to her then my dad. But one day at a time. Today seems to be and OK day so far. I guess it was just the news that my cousin is leaving and going back home that throw a loop in things. She was the one that was taking care of my mom.
Thanks again. Sailor girl is ok. She got sick after she got back. But is doing ok. She is stuck in San Diego, she was suppose to of be flown to the ship but because of the ship was rescuing that cruise liner the decided for her to stay at San Diego until they come back. So she has the whole weekend off and no where to go. I told her to go see her cousins, there are only a few hours away. She told me she can't do that because she would have to put a request to leave since it is more then 50 miles away.
Good Evening everyone! So sorry I didn't get on at all earlier today. I was out running errands and just spent the whole day out. It was cold and overcast but no precipitation yet!!
NavyMom,
I am not ready for this yet. I heard about the storm coming from your direction but tonight's weather forecast said they couldn't yet determine where the "line" was going to be that separates those who get the snow from those that get the rain. We did get our first little snowfal here - about an inch a week or so ago!!
I have such a cute picture of son and granddaughter that I want to share with all my mom friends!! It made me laugh so when I saw it! Hope it brings a smile to you as well!!!
Good morning to all I was wondering if any of you know if its ok to send my daughter another phone card and more stamps she is asking for them and Im not sure if I can send them or if its better that she buy them on base.
your welcome-- just remember no musical cards and nothing to make them get picked on like silly stickers what not- from what i have heard the musical cards is very hated.
Hi Ladies. I'm back and missed you all. Graduation was great. My sailor had overnight liberty all weekend....yeah! :-) It was great. I got too spend some time with her (just the two of us) last night and we had a long talk. She is still homesick and is still having a challenging time adjusting to military life. I promised her it will get better. She says she can't stop crying and she crys all the time for no reason.
I also realized some bad news on this trip.....my mom's short term memory lost (from her anuerysm (I think I spelled it right) that she had years ago) is getting worse. So now I need to keep an eye on mom and daughter.
Other than that, it was a great time. Took a tour of Chicago, spent all weekend with my daughter, spent time with my mom....more highs than lows.
ladypinkhatter,
I am so glad you had a wonderful graduation weekend visit!! I'm sorry she is still having homesickness. It will get better for her even when she gets to A school because there is so much more freedom for sailors to get to know other sailors and to be able to have some down time to spend with others.
Sorry also to hear your mom is having memory problems. Is this something that can't be reversed?? Is there anything they can do about it??
Glad you're back now - - but so happy you got to see your girl!!!!!!
Anna- nothing they can do to reverse it (as far as I know) and like Blondie said now I know to keep and eye on it. She seems to be adjusting to it like writing everything down the scary part is when she doesn't.
Ladypinkhatter, To help with the memory lose that my husband has we always had him wright down everything he had to do or we said to him so he would remember. His has gotten sort of better because of it. His was caused by a bike accident years ago and has little by little gotten better but there are tricks you can do to keep them to remember. Like Blondie said if she has to take meds in the day have her get a weekly med container and put it where she see will see it first thing in the morning or evening.
It has been a long while since I have been around. I have been insanely busy with too much on my plate and have not had much computer time. :( However, I wanted to drop in and say hello! :) I have missed all of you so much!
Good Morning to Everyone.
Congrats on the letters Walker. I hope they keep coming for you.
My daughter even called yesterday when they got back to port. It was nice to hear from her. She thought it was cool that they flew her back to the ship for only 2 days. But said the food sucked. They gave the cruise ship all the good food. They were eating all the leftovers. I told her it could of be worse she could of been on the ship the whole time and not the last 2 days. LOL
Sailor is doing file. She is in school a GL for now. She will be doing A school in San Diego starting in January. I just sent her a care package with lots of goodies to keep her warm. My Florida girl doesnt handle cold temps well. I am hoping that she will be home for Christmas, but she hasnt been formally approved yet.
Mary, Your daughter is going to be in San Diego in January? That is were my daughter is stationed maybe we can get them hooked up so she could have someone there to hang out with. That would be nice for both of them.
Jean...yes, and let me tell you...she cannot wait to get out there. E will be attending A school there for Sonar Tech. It would be great if our girls can get together. :) How terrific that would be for both of them! (and us!)
Blonde - Congrats...that must be wonderful to be able to do that. I would be bursting at the seams excited. I am so happy for you!
It is so good to catch up with you guys...i have missed our chats!
You should be excited. You have been waiting for this for a long time. It will be a great trip for you, Blondie.
I had something happen that was really nice. A lady at work just came back from Hawaii and she brought each of us a pen. This pen is better then the pens we have at work. It was really cool to have her think of us while she was gone.
Blondie and Jean- thank you. I will just have to keep an eye on mom and visit her more often (she's in WA and I'm in CA)
MandE- good to hear from you again.
Walker- CONGRATS on the letters....I know how much those mean.
Jean- CONGRATS on the phone call from your sailor.
I talked to my daughter for the last couple of nights and I think that is giving her comfort. It seems like the more we talk, the less she cries. Thanks to you ladies I am able to be positive even when she is not. We prayed last night together and I promised her it will get better and told her if people around her is tired of her sadness...then she need to call home, write home, pray, and/or read her Bible. If it really gets bad, go to see the Chaplain. I also told her what she is going through is normal...she's never really been away from home, friends, etc. and it is ok....this too shall pass. I realized that these are her "growing pains" (and mine too). I hope everyone is having a great day!
Good morning all! 7 days and counting till PIR! Its been a rollercoaster I am glad to be getting off of- 3 months of this really drove me nuts. Not looking forward to freezing in IL but definately looking forward to hugs and lots of them!!!!
Lindalav, now the fun begins. We will be here for you when you are waiting for that I am a sailor call that comes after Battle Stations. Your daughter should be going through it this weekend or sooner. I can't remember if they start it on Thursdays or if it is only a Friday and weekend thing. I know that was the worst part of BC for me and my daughter. The day she finished I was waiting for the call and she called the house and I was at work. I still tear up about that time and it has been almost a year.
Lindalay, I will keep your daughter and all her shipmates in my thoughts and prayers. My g'daughter rather enjoyed battle stations but it is tiring. When she called she did sound tired. She also had the resident BC sore throat, etc., so she sounded rather bad. I do suspect that Battle Stations are much like the Crucible for the Marines in that the RDCs expect that all who participate will be successful. I know that when we were chatting with the DIs from the Marine boot camp, they told us that they have weeded out those who wouldn't pass long before the Crucible started. So the experience was much harder on those waiting than those experiencing. PIR will be very exciting!
DC, my daughter said it was like the Crucible but it was easier. She had a mini Crucible when she was in the Marines. She never went to there boot camp because of her car accident but her marine trainer put them through a mini one. She said that most of the recruits that go through BS do just fine. They are ready for it and are able to do it. She thought it was fun and wanted to do it again.
Thank you all she will be going through battle stations the 21st/22nd - she is more concerned with the final PFA especially since she rolled her ankle and ended in rcu for a month - like i told her if you can fail by 14 seconds with a hurt ankle you should have no problem- keep her in your prayers - tomorrow is d day on that! Thanks!
Thats awesome and thanks so much she told me in her last letter she is passing even if if means breaking her ankle lol- so the determination is definately there... I am just so nervous since have had the limbo already and I miss her so much! 7 days ;)
Jean- thanks. I will let you know if and/or when my Mom need a well check done. My daughter will be stationed there next month so that too is comforting. That is so sweet of you to offer and I will definitely keep that in mind.
Blondie- Thank you. I am learning to stay positive with her and reminding her (and myself) that God is in control at all times and need to let him. It's a challenge not knowing from one moment to next what's going to happen with her and stay positive at the same time. I can only imagine how she feels.
Lindalay- we went through battlestations two weeks ago and PIR last week. It was an exciting time that now seems like a distant wonderful memory and like Jean said..I have to laugh now because I think we (the Moms) were more nervous and excited than the recruits. My daughter did not have the confident determination that your daughter has and she did it too....no worries.
Good Morning to Everyone.
No problem to take the day to go there. I love that little town. While it probably is not a little town now. The last time I was there it was getting bigger. That was where my husband and I took our honeymoon 30 years ago.
It is cold and snow flurries are to happen all day here. Yes, Seattle is getting snow. Can you believe that. We don't usually get snow until late December early January. This year is going to be bad. I hope the snow waits until I am done with my MRI today. I don't like to drive in it.
