I will believe me. I will close my eyes and pray that I will be out of this contraption fast. I don't like closed in places and that is one of them. Thanks for the prayers it will keep me there.
Lindalav, prayers for your daughter's successful PFA. All of us are pulling/praying for her.
Jean, the first time I had an MRI, it didn't bother me at all but then the next time I began to feel uneasy. So I closed my eyes and meditated. I figured so long as my eyes were closed, I would not know where I was. Okay, that noise tells you over and over again but you can put yourself in a better place ... believe me.
Jean, I do know that Battle Stations are easier than the Crucible ... my g-son loves to remind me that my g-daughter has it "so easy." But then he got tangled in his rifle during the swim test and they had to pull him out so my g'daughter says he would not make it in the Navy. It's fun. I remind them both that the respective services prepares them for the needs of that service. I don't think the Marines have the emphasis on fire fighting but they are not usually at sea.
Actually they have Marines on all ships now. I don't know if it is because of 911 or what. My daughter is fiends of all the Marines on her ship. She still wishes she could of got that way. But is still enjoying being in the Navy. As she puts it I was made for the Military. She is having so much fun being in.
Down to the last few days before PIR on 11/24. My daughter has stopped writing now - I told her to concentrate on studying instead. Now am missing the letters. Tomorrow is their big written test and then BS on Sunday. Then we fly out to GL early on Tuesday. Can't wait.
Ok - now to get caught up on everything from the past couple days - - -
walker,
so sorry to hear about your friend. Will be keeping his family in my prayers. Also, congrats on getting your letter and phone call!! How exciting!! And yes, keep bragging about your girl - highest score - - - yeah!!
Andrea,
PIR is almost here for you and then the nice long weekend visit with your sailor. I sent you a post on your page about all the things you should remember to bring!! I forgot to mention camera batteries!! Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back, How long will you be staying in Chicago?
Jean,
How was your MRI? Any idea how long until you hear something??
lindalav,
BS this weekend or Monday??? Please let us know when you get that wonderful "I'm a Sailor!!!" call. Praying your daughter passes all tests and challenges with flying colors!!!
reenlegalia, if you haven't joined "Japan Moms," I suggest that you do so. That group has several moms with sailors stationed in Sasebo and several are on the Essex. My g'daughter is in Atsugi, with the air wing assigned to the GW. She got her phone from Softbank. It is really designed for calling stateside. From the base she can call the US for "free" but her calls in Japan are expensive. Skype is a wonderful way to communicate! It is free to download from skype.com and if you have webcams on both computers, you can video chat for free. It will work without a webcam but then you only have voice. You will need a microphone if your computer does not have one built in. My Mac has both so I know less about setting all this up. Blondie chats with her daughter in Yokosuka and she might be able to tell you more. Some of the other moms use MagicJacks and like it as well.
BZ, walker to your daughter. I know that you are proud of her!
Andrea, I echo the recommendation to take extra camera batteries! My older son, my sailor's uncle, is a fairly serious amateur photographer and he went to my g'daughter's PIR. After he shot about the third shot, his battery died. I couldn't believe it. So not only did I miss the PIR (due to chemo), I didn't get to see any pictures either. >:-( I will keep your sailor in my prayers on Sunday. She should do fine!
Just wanted everyone to know Nikki passed her PFA did the running in 13 minutes.. WOOHOO! She passed test 3 with 4.2 - Tonight is battlestations HOOYAH!!!
Lindalay, I'm doing the Snoopy Happy Dance for your daughter.
Reeniegalla, my g'daughter has a phone from Softbank as well but she does not have the iPhone or anything fancy. It does allow her to call home and that's great. She will use it when she is in Sasebo and that should be roughly half the time.
You know, sometimes the young ones have to learn the hard way. When my g'daughter was in college, she let her BF convince her to run up her credit card. He argued that "your grandmother will help you." Now she knew better than that and frequently told him, "You don't know my grandmother." So when she graduated she had a hefty credit card bill which we said was hers, and hers alone. She joined the Navy and has paid it off but it was a hard lesson. My grandson started out with a fancy phone and fancy plan. He realized that after paying car insurance and phone bill and for all the other things he needed, he had no money. He is slowly modifying his ways.
reeniegalla, you can buy a web cam to use on your computer. That's what I did, it has a microphone built in to to. Also, with Skype, you can type back and forth. Not as good as seeing but it's ok if you don't have a web cam. I just sit my web cam on top of the monitor.
Lindalav,
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S T O Y O U R D A U G H T E R ! ! ! ! ! !
I'm joining DC in that happy dance. So we should all have a new sailor by Mondy?!?!
Reeniegalla,
So glad you heard from your daughter!!! I also understand what you mean about the free spending they do. Suddenly they are making steady pay and there are just so many things out there calling their name!!! Usually they all settle down after awhile. My daughter went out and got a computer and a car soon after getting out to WA!!!! Luckily she stayed on our phone plan for awhile but there sure were several other things she had to go out and get!!!!
Thank you all ..its been a ride that i am hoping will calm down for a bit. All packed and ready to go. Leaving tomorrow afternoon after work I will sleep while hubby drives ;)
Congrats Labmom39. Hope you do get the I am a sailor call. It was one of the best calls I got from her. I cried. Mostly because I missed it and it was on the phone message machine when I got home.
labmom,
You are very welcome and I am so glad that her graduation is almost here!!! Have a safe trip to GL and enjoy every minute of the time you get to spend with her!!
lindalav,
Safe travels for you as well. I hope all of you going to FL this week have fun!!!!
Reeniegalla,
Safe travels for your daughter!!! Is her ship going out? If so, for how long (approximately because we can't be specific!!!) Did you tell us what her job is?
That is good that supper will be a snap. I sometimes enjoy your complaining, it makes me feel like I am not the only one that feels yucky sometimes. So go ahead, it does make you feel better. Get it out, scream yell, hit something ( maybe your bosses kids,LOL) I understand. I make a roast yesterday so todays dinner will also be a snap. We are having French dip or strogonoff I really haven't decided.
Gee it sounds like you and I were on the same wave lengths this week. I am having meatloaf also this week. LOL. I come home to a quiet house also. Mine are all grown up also. My daughter was the last to leave. Sometimes I like to hear there noise.
I like to do that sometimes also. I also like to let them know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel also. They also don't always stay away. Right now I have my second living with us because he doesn't have a job yet. He was the one that looked after my mom.
Hi Ladies. Jean and Blondie, I wish I lived close to you two the way you both are cooking this week.
Blondie- I thought my job sucked until I read your post and realized it's just boring....wow, thank God for grandparents...lol. Today is almost over and will be a memory. Praying your tomorrow is better than today and that you talk to your daughter soon.
Cat1- not there yet...I too do not have a husband at home (not sure I want one just yet...still enjoying having my own space). Sometimes I go home and wonder "what do I do now? and then I answer "anything I want!" (even if it's nothing :-)). And it is so much better now that my daughter can call me (almost) whenever she wants which so far has pretty much everyday (this is so much better than when she was in bc...lol).
Congrats to all going to PIR this week!! Traveling mercies and enjoy!! It's an awesome ceremony.
My daughter is doing much better. She seems to be more open and flexible to the Navy way of life (don't stop those prayers though). It's good to hear her laugh again and relaxed a little. Thanks to you ladies, I have learned (and still learning) how to be there and supportive without telling her what to do or what she should do which is what I do not want to do.....lol (that was a mouthful).
ladypinkhatter,
lol - funny thing about your "mouthful" you said - - I understood exactly what you were saying!!!! I will continue to keep your daughter in my prayers. And hugs to you to help you when you need to be the most supportive for her!!
Cat,
Good to see you again!!! I'm so happy your daughter is well. Hope you have a wonderful trip to WA for the reenlistment ceremony!! How exciting!!
My daughter is there at Kitsap. Wave to her for me when you get there!!!!!!!
Just poking my head in today! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. My daughter is bringing 8 other sailors home with her for Thanksgiving - So exciting. She graduated BECC last Thursday and started her strand yesterday...she will graduate A School on Dec 8. And then awaits her orders. Her Christmas leave was approved...so it will be a bittersweet holiday this year.
Hey I was wondering if any one knows if thier is a deadline on sending flight info in and can they check into there A school a day early? I am having a hard time finding a flight that will get her there before check in time so was going to book a day early as bad as I hate to if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated
Congratulations Cathi:
You must be so happy for your daughter. You must be so honored that they are coming for Thanksgiving. We are still iced in here in Fairbanks AK so no mail again today. I'm waiting for my letter still. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
walker,
Are you doing her flight arrangements because she is home on leave and going off to A school from home? I ask because usually sailors get their flight arrangements from the Navy. Even if they are going home on leave there is an office that makes the arrangements because the Navy is paying when they are on orders. But they can arrive a day early. She should also have a contact number from her orders that she can call to let them know she is arriving a day early. If worse comes to worse she can always just check into a hotel for the one day. Will she be arriving to A school late at night or on a Sunday?
Wonderful news Cathi!! Enjoy your Thanksgiving!!! I know those sailors appreciate having a "home" to go to for the special day - and a home cooked meal.
She will be coming home from bc and then flying out to her A school if she goes early to A school it will be on a Monday really dont know what I need to do here. She said I could make her arrangements
walker,
If she arrives on a Monday she shouldn't have any problems checking in early. But she is traveling on orders so the Navy would be making those arrangements because the Navy pays for them to travel. Now if she cashes in her ticket then she will have to make her own. If the Navy gives her travel from bc to her A school and she makes a diversion to home then there is a number she can call and get her ticket changed to go from bc to home to A school. She just has to pay the difference of the change from straight through to going home. Hope this makes sense!! My daughter did this after A school before going out to WA, she changed her ticket to come home first.
Yes it makes perfect sensemy daughter had said that I could buy her tickets from bc to home and from home to A schooldo I shouldnt buy her tickets then until I get another call right
Also, is she going to have leave time between bc and A school? I ask this because usually sailors go right to A school from bc and get leave after school. It just makes it so much harder for you if she is still at bc while you are trying to make these arrangements. If it's getting down to the wire and you have to make her flight arrangements to get her to A school on time then I would go ahead and make those arrangements. I do believe she can just cash in her tickets from the Navy if you end up buying her tickets.
When you get a chance to talk to her again ask her about travel arrangements the Navy will be making for her and to make sure she gets the number for the office she would call to change those arrangements. If she can't get that info let me know and I'll ask my daughter. Will she be going home with you right from PIR? If so, then she should be able to cash out her whole ticket.
She is getting leave after bc she gets 5 days. I will wait and ask her again next call I get from her thanks so much for the info I really appreciate the help.
