    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • Oneofalot

Bev, my daughters letters in BC were also the same. But she love the Navy and is really seriously thinking of making it a career. She is starting Deployment in less then a month. This one will be her first one so we will see after it how she feels. LOL. And my heart goes out to the family and shipmates of the USS Harlsey. Prayers for all of them.

San Diego. She is on the USS Ronald Reagan

MegM...my daughter is on wk6 of bc right now. I know exactly how you are feeling.  Her first calls and letters were awful and she was so homesick also questioning her choice. I had a hard time sleeping and eating just thinking about what she was going thru. She had wisdom teeth pulled on her 20th birthday in bc which was very hard for her.And to spend all the holidays away from home and family.  But...It does get better.  The letters that come after wk 4 are totally different then what u might see at the beginning.  My daughter is so upbeat and motivated it is amazing at the strength and determination she has now.  She was just like your daughter...tried college and needed a break and hopes the navy puts her in the right direction and I think it has or it is beginning to.  Be strong for her and yourself...post on the groups because we all are here to support each other. My husband also doesn't understand and that is why I come to N4M for...support and understanding and a shoulder to vent/cry on.  Just remember to write every day telling her how much you love her and how proud you are of her. It will give her strength. I wrote the day she left and just saved them til I had her mailing address...and now I send her a letter every other day and she has written about how much they mean to her and how they give her the strength she needs.  This is the first steps of an amazing change

Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement! I really needed them.  I have written her a letter every day since she left! She even gets daily letters from the dogs and cat!  It sounds like her negativity is normal and I'm hoping to receive a positive letter soon! Thanks! This is where I belong!
  • Oneofalot

Meg when you send her letters put what is happening in the world. My daughter really missed that. They don't get any outside happening while in BC. I like the letters from the dog and cat. I never even thought of that. That would of made her laugh.
  • Oneofalot

Bev, I wonder if my daughters ship is going to re-leave your daughters ship.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, I never even thought of that. With my daughter being a social butterfly in school she would probably like that.
  • Oneofalot

It goes back to it is ok for them to be a sailor but not ok to do things they want to do. ie like the cruise. That was really stupid of the cruise people. They really lost out.

Meg great idea with the letters - I also took my camera with me and took random pics of people etc where ever I went such as the fair etc.  she really enjoyed that.  I had her friends write on face book and i would copy and past and send with my letters... whatever you can think of helps -  nikki went through a 3 month boot camp due to an injury so keep her spirits up in whatever way possible...
  • AndreaS61

Good morning all. MegM - I agree with the comments below. My daughter joined the Navy right after high school and was called to bootcamp 10/4/10. She was never negative, and if she questioned her decision she didn't tell me, but after bootcamp she said that my letters were her lifeline. I wrote every day. On every letter I counted down the days until I got to hug her (at PIR) and I always told her how proud I was of her. She got her wisdom teeth out, too, and got a dry socket, had stomach flu and food poisoning but she made it through and when I saw her at PIR she wasn't a little girl anymore. She was proud, confident and said that joining the Navy was the best decision she's ever made.  You've come to the right place to vent - we've all been there and there are a lot of shoulders here to lean on. Hang in there!!

I liked reading all the ideas that people put in their letters to their girls.  I didn't know about this site when daughter 2 went to bc.  I did adorn every letter with cute little stickers and I printed out a few pictures and wrote my letter around them.  Don't know if the situation will be the same for daughter 1 when she goes to OCS but I'll sure keep some of these ideas in mind!!!!!
  • Anna

I just saw where they found the body of the missing sailor from the Halsey.  So sad!  Someone on another group said it was a female sailor - - has anyone else heard that?  The news from Navy.mil does not mention gender.
  • Oneofalot

Yes, I heard that. There is news on the web site http:/www.navy.mil/swf/index.asp.
  • lindalav

Yes it was on the facebook page that it was a female sailor.  my heart goes out to her family friends and shipmates.  Any idea what happened?

    Good Morning to Everyone

  • Anna

Amen Jane!!  Such nice words, my sentiments as well!!

    Dmarie,

Nice to hear from you!!  Thank you for the info.  I wondered if they are as cut off from the outside world in OCS as they are in BC.  I know the two are not much alike but I will certainly look forward to sending Daughter 1 encouraging letters.  They are allowed to have cell phones while there aren't they??  And yes, I always made sure the outsides of the envelopes were as plain as can be!!!

  • Oneofalot

    I like thoughts.
    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • Oneofalot

Gee, I want the snow here. Send some my way, PLEASE!!!!
  • Oneofalot

OK I'll take it with that.
  • Oneofalot

That would work. I don't think you would like to work as a Workers Comp. support staffer. My job should have 3 people doing it but it is only me.
  • Oneofalot

Yikes!!! You really do a lot. I thought I did a lot.
  • Oneofalot

    No Kidding! you do.
  • Oneofalot

Brrr...  That is cold. I will stick with our 40 degree weather. Even though I would still like snow. I am not sure I want it that cold.
  • Oneofalot

Yikes! that is what my daughter is in for when she gets accepted. We are holding our fingers crossed. She is hoping to be able to go after deployment is over. or she is also trying for that Seaman to admiral program. I hope she gets it because if she doesn't she will be going EOD.
  • Oneofalot

My daughter was going to go in the Marines before the Navy. So I think she would be able to handle the DI"s well. She sometimes still wishes she could be in the Marines but they medically discarded her because of a car accident she was in a week before she was to leave for BC.
  • Oneofalot

She wanted to the Seaman to Admiral thing because she can go to College at home.
  • AndreaS61

I talked to my daughter yesterday. She's in GL in A-School; will be an ET. Just started her ATT which, I understand, really sucks. It's all computerized, detailed info on electronics. She's the only girl in her class. She said the guys all seem to get it and she doesn't. So she got behind and then had to attend a make up session that night which conflicted with her scheduled watch. Then she had to get her watch changed. So she had class all day, homework, a quick dinner break, a 2-1/2 hour make up session, more homework, and then a 4 hour watch. Got back to her room just after 1am and then was called to muster at 4:30am. She was really down. Now I understand why I didn't hear from her for two days. I'm hoping today goes better for her.
  • Oneofalot

Hopefully she will get some rest somewhere.
  • Anna

    Dmarie,

Thank you for the info.  I know my daughter is getting mentally prepared for OCS even tho' she still has one more year of school to go.  She is a 3year senior so she may be able to graduate a little early but she still has some required senior level classes for her major.  I will have to tell her to start thinking about those DIs.  And the loss of communication.  She spends so much time talking to friends either online, by phone, or in school.  THAT will be a real adjustment for her!!!!!

We have a bunch of snow that came down last night and still today.  Lots of schools and activities closed.  Son and dil went into work today tho'.  One thing different here from OH is all the bigs hills.  You feel like you're on a roller coaster driving around here.  Son had problems last night getting home, he had several big hills to get up and he just couldn't get traction!!

  • Anna

    So true!!
  • Oneofalot

Have a great weekend Blondie. I just talked with my daughter. She sound excited. She is trying to fill out the paper work for Seaman to Admiral program. She decided that she wants to fly after all. This is what she has wanted since she was 18 months old. I hope she get excepted or else it is EOD. Yikes.
  • Anna

    Jean,

So happy for your daughter!!!  I hope she gets picked up for the program!!!  Please keep up posted!!

  • Ms. Ampi USS Germantown

    Hello "Girlpower!!

Hope everyone is doing well. My daughter is loving A school in GL. I'm loving the daily communication.

    Stay in touch,

    Ms. Ampi~

  • Anna

    Ms. Ampi,

What a precious picture!!  Love her smile - it lights up the whole screen!!!!

  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning To everyone.
  • Oneofalot

Ms. Ampi, what a lovely daughter you have.
  • Oneofalot

If it is late in the week and there is a holiday before that, I would assume that she would not start until the next week. They will use it to process her in. My daughter went on Wednesday and wasn't done processing in until the next Monday. Don't hold me to that though. Things can change it is the Navy.
  • Oneofalot

See if he can talk to his boss and let his boss know that it could change a week before or a week after the date he puts down. I do that to my boss all the time since my daughter has been in the Navy. I really don't know when she comes back from deployment so I just let him know that it could be a few day earlier or it could be a few days later.
  • Oneofalot

    Wow, that is culture shock.
  • Oneofalot

I looked it up. It killed 31 people.
  • Oneofalot

    It also hurt 130 people.

I want your snow Blondie. All we get here is RAIN.

  • Oneofalot

I googled it. I don't know. I wasn't able to read the whole article. It was long. Sorry. I will read it at lunch and get back to you.
  • Cindy Ship11,DIV54

Alie, My daughter left on Nov. 23, 2010 and graduation is on 1/28/11. The holidays played a role. 9 1/2 weeks. I had to put in for my vacation early also. Took my recruiters word it would only be 8 weeks. So happy I took two weeks just in case!
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone

  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • Oneofalot

Blondie, I really wish I could take some of that snow off your hands. I would even take the cold. We are having Spring weather over here right now. In the Upper 50 and Rain.
