My daughter is not looking forward to this deployment. You got to remember when she comes back her boyfriend will have just left for deployment. So they will not see each other for over 1 and 1/2 years. She told me that they will make it. They both know what is involved. I am glad she has someone that really understands. Her last boyfriend didn't understand. He thought that she will on do 4 years and be out. My daughter wants to 20 years or more.
WowI know my daughter is looking forward to getting out to the fleet and doing her job. I can understand that excitement. how do the care packages work?
Yes, my daughters ship has a mirowave on it. Christina always miss when the galley is open. She works 18 hours a day and it never is open when she gets time to eat. So I hope they don't work that much now but I think she is. She loves her job and loves being there.
I just know that it takes longer to get to her. I will have to remember what Blondie said and hope that Christina won't get all her packages all at once. It will be like Christmas to her if it does. She will have enough food for weeks then. Maybe I better start sending them longer apart. Not once a week. Maybe once every other week. I just don't want her to starve. I know she won't but I also know that there are some foods she can't have and if they serve it to her she will eat it and be very sick.
we do alot of texting and facebook right now but shes still in a school so i am at the beginning stages.so it would be better to send her a good care package about a month before she goes...
Yeah. Most of the time you might know what ports they go to but that will be about it. Until they get back and can talk about it. Just remember loose lips sink ships. That is all I keep telling myself in order to keep my daughter and her ship mates safe I can't say much to anyone.
I know what you mean and with her being an EN she is a first responder from what she told me.. scary thought! I know I pay more attention to world news now...
That is very true Blondie. That is why I told her not to let me know. I don't want to accidently say something I should not say. So it is easier for me not to know.
Wow so this is a navy moms life sit and wait and wonder and worry lol. I do know she is in the most capable hands though.. that keeps me comforted. Ok I am off for the night was wonderful talking with you both thanks for the info :)
Blondie, that is about the same with Christina ship. Other then I don't know where she is and really rather stay that way. She calls when she is in port to say she is safe and I will be there when she come in.
Hello all! I am the proud mother of a newly graduated Sailor! My daughter is now in her indoctrination week at Great Lakes A-School. Her PIR was beautiful and our time with her was fantastic! Looking forward to getting to know you all better!
I'm always at work. We just have a very chilly morning. NO SNOW!! which sucks. I wanted snow. If the farmers almanac is right, we will get snow by mid Feb. It has been right so far. Sorry you have to shovel snow.
Catherine, Thanks. I feel better that I know my daughter is safe and has friends. I actually talk to family members that know her on her ship site. It feels so weird that they know her and she is so far away. It does make me proud that she is a US Navy Sailor. I do a lot of bragging here at work and when I am out. Her picture is with me always to show people.
Hello everyone!! Sorry I've been MIA for awhile. Alot going on. I got to spend a few days with daughter in OH and then drove back to son in PA. Sunday hubby and I left to drive to Schenectady, NY. Now I'm doing the ole apartment search again. But with this big storm coming in I'm stuck in the hotel today and will be tomorrow as well. They're calling it a one-two hit - we already have about 4 inches and it's been snowing nonstop since overnight. Then we have another storm coming that is supposed to dump up to 16 to 18 inches up here. We are just above the line between the moderate snow and heavy snow!!! How lucky can I get!!!! Everything is closed around us and there are no eateries within walking distance so hubby and I stopped at a grocery store to pick up some microwave dinners for tonight. We have a tiny refrigerator and microwave in our room so will just have to make do!!!!!
Welcome to our new members. I think I got a personal welcome to each one!!! I hope so!!!
Catherine, so good to hear from you again. I've missed hearing about you and your two sailors!!!! Congratultions to your daughter!! I loved hearing about your surprise visit!!!
Bev, I agree with Jean - - before N4Ms we all suffered alone and didn't know what was going on. I didn't find this site until after my second daughter graduated from bc.
Hope everyone else is doing well and staying warm and safe!!
Gee, Anna I want your snow. We have sun Do you believe that. Seattle actually has Sun. We are cold but I like it that way if it is going to be sunny. I just wish I could get snow. I really miss it. Going up to the mountains is not the same.
I wish I could send buckets of this to you!! I know daughter Catherine would love it. She's still on vacation in CA tho and is heading to Nevada to visit her brother, sil and their little baby!!!!
Thanks for all the warm welcomes! We are in our second snow day... Roads are treacherous, and wind chill is -20! We will be staying warm inside and drinking lots of hot cocoa and coffee today!
I talked to my daughter in GL last night. They are snowed in. All classes have been cancelled. The base has been shut down and they are confined to their buildings, mostly to their rooms. She said they are having blizzard conditions and sub-zero temps. Luckily, she got a goodie box from me, so she won't starve. It makes me thankful for the cold, clear weather we've been having in Seattle. My prayers are with all of the midwest and east coast as they fight through the current storm.
Well I'm stuck in the hotel for the second day. Going to go out and uncover my car in hopes of moving it out of it's current snow bank. Hoping tomorrow to get out and check out a couple apartments!!!!
Jean - I don't mind the snow. I lived in Eastern WA for 13 years. But the snow in Seattle isn't the same; it's wet snow. Plus, nobody plows and people can't drive in it...or shouldn't drive in it, so it's more of a hassle than it's worth. I'd still have to go to work but I'd be commuting in the snow. I AM loving these cold, clear days, though!
OK I agree with you on that. I do love the cold clear day. I do admit that people don't know how to drive in the stuff and yes, they don't plow like they do in the rest of the US.
While I made it through my daughter leaving on deployment. Still a little teary eyed but I keep looking at it as she won't be gone that long and I will be there when she come home. Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. Just keep thinking of the warm days of summer to get through these cold days. Be safe.
I wish it was short but it will be a long one. I just keep thinking about when she comes home. I will be able to see that. YEAH!!!!! That is what will get me through it. She will not have access to Skype so it will be Emails and letters.
Sending you hugs and hoping this deployment goes fast for you and your daughter. I remember when my son left for his first deployment - it's hard, no doubt about that. But I always looked forward to his emails - I told him even if they are very short, just a line or two to let me know he is ok - that helped alot. And now you can follow so much about what the ship is doing by their own website or on facebook!!! I saw a full page picture with some AOs loading bombs in an issue of the Navy Times and I recognized my son right away!!! It's cool if you get to see a picture of your sailor while underway!!!!
Speaking of pictures - - Lindalav, that is a cool pic your girl sent you!! Is she used to snow or is this a new experience for her?
I finally got to get out of this hotel today and I think I found an apartment for hubby and I. I have to fill out all the paperwork and such but I'm not anticipating any problems. We will still be in a hotel for another week because we can't go back to get our stuff out of storage until the 11th. But then things should settle back down into a routine!! Still learning my way around this new city!! I get lost ssoooooooo much!!!!!!
Sorry - - - didn't see your last post about this being her first experience with snow!!! I hope she doesn't have to shovel this stuff tho' - - - that's no fun!!!!!
