Hello all hope all is well!   I am still part of group ship 6 and a sailor recruit broke her leg running her PFA and is pretty down.  Her sister wrote on that group so I asked for her address so I could send a card and note- Shes pretty discouraged and I remember how my daughter felt so I figured I would do something to get her spirits up.. would anyone like to join me

  • Oneofalot

Good Morning to everyone. I am not at work today. I have had a very bad headache and decided that it was better to stay at home. Hope everyone is having a good Friday and a great warm weekend.Stay safe.
  • Anna

    Lindalav,

Yes, I would like to send her a card and note as well.  Can you private message her address to me?

Thank you so much for reaching out to her sister and allowing some of us other moms to send our support and well wishes to this young sailor!!!!

Hi! I am new to this group. My daughter is in boot camp with PIR date of 3/11. She is seeing snow for the first time that she remembers. She is my youngest daughter and it is hard to have my baby out of touch. We are raising our 7yr old grandson and 8 yr old granddaughter so not empty nesters yet. They miss their "sissy" very much. Even though she had her own place the last two years, she was in town and often here so this is a change for everybody.
  • kathryn56

Blondie, thank you somuch for your warm welcome and your lovely thoughts. Loved the hug! I especially appreciate that you took the time to be so supportive with all that you are going through right now. My prayers are with you and your daughter. I pray all is settled down before you lose contact with her for a few months. And I pray I have your grace and ability to reach out when it is my turn. Thank you for your inspiration.

Good morning, Ladies! I need words of wisdom. My daughter is in A School in GL.  She was really upset last night because she said the sexual harassment is rampant. She's had guys stalk her and harass her and yesterday she had a guy try to get her to go with him to a motel. She told him no, that she has a boyfriend at home and isn't like that. Then he phone stalked her and told people that she sleeps around. This is really getting her down.  She has a couple of guy friends that are really great, but she says that's not the norm. Is this just something she will have to learn to deal with? My sister is a pilot and I know she's gone through a lot of this kind of stuff too, being in a "man's job".
  • Anna

    Andrea,

I'm sorry your daughter is going through this.  Unfortunately it is still a problem in the world - not just the Navy.  My daughter also had problems like that in A school.  I think some of it is the fact that A school students are still immature both in their careers and in life in general.  Most of them are fresh out of bc and experiencing a little more freedoms than what they are used to.  If it gets too bad she should report it to her command and keep bringing it to the command's attention until they do something.  But in all honesty if she can stay strong and deal with it on her own she might be better off.  Certainly not to the point of putting herself in jeopardy, but as Cat also mentioned - she needs to get tough and learn how to battle these situations.  Sometimes reporting just seems to make things harder for our girls.  It does get better once they are in the fleet because she will get to know her shipmates and they get to know her.  She may still run across a jerk or two but hopefully it won't be a problem for her.  Please tell your daughter that, like Cat, I will be praying for her for strength to get through these trials and to become a strong, self-confident young woman in the process.  I hope this helps - - I'm sure we have some other moms who will weigh in on this situation as well.

    CAT,

Congratulations to your daughter -  for her advancement and her NAM award.  And for her reenlistment as well.  Sounds like you have a strong self-confident young lady as well!!!!  God Bless ALL our girls serving!!!!

  • AndreaS61

Thank you Cat and Anna for the feedback. It's bittersweet that this is not an isolated incident. I'm glad my daughter is not alone in this, but it saddens me that the guys can't see that these women work just as hard (if not harder) as they do and that they are not only equals, but that they are all on the same team. I told my daughter basically what you have suggested, that she needs to toughen up and deal with this because I'm sure she will continue to see this attitude manifest throughout her Navy career. She's a tough kid and a go-getter. I've never known her to quit at anything. She said at first she went to her room and cried and then she got mad!! I'm sure she'll grit her teeth and dig in  her heels. On the bright side, she's scoring really well on her ATT exams(?) - upper 90s. Remember a few weeks ago she was discouraged because she didn't get it. She has now risen above that and she will rise above this too.

CAT - Congratulations to your daughter on her achievements!!

  • Anna

    Andrea,

That is wonderful news on her scores!!!  I'm sure your daughter will succeed in all she sets her mind to.  It IS a shame that any girl still has to deal with these types of problems.  Maybe someday women will be treated as equals in all matters of careers - one can only hope and pray.  Your girl has our support as well, and you also!!!

  • lindalav

Anna thank you and feel free to forward to other moms to send a card I promised myself I would pay it forward when my daughter got hurt so I am fufilling my promise and helping a young lady at the same time.

Blondie and Jean my prayers are with you both and your girls for a quick and safe return.  I havent gotten to the deployment stage so at least i will know who to turn to at that time.

Andrea- my daughter is also at A school and she sees alot of things happening that arent cool.  she had the stalker etc  when she got out of BC she didnt want to jump into a relationship etc so she has become buddies with the guys rather than them harassing her.  She is single and always related better to men then women to begin with.  She has more problems with other females than the men. when did she start A school?  My daughter had an adjustment phase there and now seems to be  holding her own a month later.   Good luck.

  • Anna

    lindalav,

Thank you!!  Blondie sending it along to you as well!!!!

Hoping everyone is having a good weekend!!!!

  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.

Sorry I was not on the computer on Friday. I had a bad headache and decided I needed to vegg. out for a day.

  • Oneofalot

No, I am still have the headache. I did what the doctor said and took a very non stressful weekend. I will be calling her today because she said if I still have a headache today that it could be a sinus infection. Plus if I go in she can give me massage therapy also then I hope it will go away. It really sucks that work can cause so much trouble. How are you doing?
  • Oneofalot

Thanks, I am hoping it is a sinus infection. She will start out with it being stress. Yes, I can see it being that but when I take a decongestant the headache goes away. I will pray that you get to feeling better also and the weather will warm up for ya. I even don't want what you guys are getting and that is hard to say knowing that I love snow. It is to cold for me. I will send the warm weather your way. I think our high today is in the high 40's. With the wind. lol
  • Oneofalot

I know I have been spending a lot of time with my hand on my sinuses and putting pressure to get it under control. I will get in today because she told me to call in if the headache has not gotten better.
  • Oneofalot

Tell you the truth, I don't know what kind of weather we are having until I leave to go home. I have no windows where I work and the ones I can sort of look out of when I am going to the bathroom are darkened. So you can't really tell what it going outside. Always a surprise.
  • Oneofalot

That is right. I hate it when it does start to snow because I get everyone telling me how bad it really is. I usually go on to the traffic cam to see how bad it really is. If it looks as bad as they say I call the DOT and get an update. My son know when to call and tell me to get home. I told him if you can't see the grass any more and it is that much on the streets to call and send me home.
  • AndreaS61

Good morning all! Jean - I hope you're feeling better or if not are heading to the doctor. Sinus infections are no fun.

Blondie - Thank you for sharing what your daughter has gone through.  My daughter moved across the street to the base the first week of December but didn't start her ATT until mid-January. She's very personable, very bright and very determined. She was quite the tomboy growing up, never a little princess, always a hard worker. She grew up in the country where women are treated with respect. This is a whole new animal for her. I told her that she needs to insist on being treated with respect and never put herself in a position where her intentions could be misconstrued.

  • Oneofalot

I will only have my son home until he gets a job then he will call me to see how the weather is. LOL.
  • Oneofalot

Just got a E-mail from my daughter. She is doing well. I had to tell her some bad news. My moms neighbor passes away on Saturday night. I wanted to let her know. She was a very kind old lady. She passed away in her sleep. She was not sick or anything. I saw her in her garden the day she passed away. She was happy and everything. Like the old saying says You don't know when your time will come so make everyday worth living for.
  • Oneofalot

Have a good lunch. I am glad that she actually saw how much you really work on getting the sidewalks cleared. Maybe she will help out a little also. ( Not) lol.
  • Oneofalot

We don't have snow. We have mush from all the rain. It is to wet to even do the garden. I was surprised that she was out on Saturday but it was sort of nice.
  • Oneofalot

That is the kind of snow we get. It just rains snow but doesn't usually stick to anything. When it does it messes everyone up.
  • Oneofalot

Sorry about all the messy conditions. I wish I could send you some warm weather. It might be full of rain but at least it would be warm.
  • Oneofalot

that is really true. Even Texas had snow. Not us. That really bites. That we don't get the snow. Oh well there is always next year.
  • Oneofalot

Cool. That would be really cool. We usually only get one day worth of snow. Then it all melts. Except for 2 years ago when it stuck around but that was in December. February snow is always wet and melts fast. But it would be cool to get some.
  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

my girl is almost ready for BC... she got her hair cut this weekend.and got last min. things she needed.
  • Anna

    Sandy,

That's wonderful!!!  Does she leave tomorrow night or Wednesday morning?  Will you be going with her for her final swearing in?

Just remember that you will have all of us here to help you out.  Make sure she knows what phone number to call anytime she has an opportunity to call so you won't miss her call!!!  As moms we never know when that call may be coming!!

  • Oneofalot

Make sure she knows the numbers. Christina had a problem when she got to BC she only had the numbers on speed dial and did not remember them. Have her put them on a piece of paper that she can tuck away for future use.
  • sandy (ship 9 DIV. 126 ) PIR 4/8

we got her a very small address book just for that reason...lol
  • Anna

Good idea - - I never thought about that Jean!!!  Thanks for passing that along!!

  • Oneofalot

Anything that will help others get there kid through with out stress. It is stressful enough to not have to have more.
  • Anna

    So true!!
  • lindalav

Hello all- thanks Blondie and Anna for thinking of her. I mailed my card and letter today and I hope it helps.

Jean I know the sinus thing well I usually get mine here in Florida in march due to the pollen being so bad here.  We had tornado watches today.  I would rather have snow I think lol.

Welcome Sandy  Dont forget to join your PIR group when available.  It really helps to vent on this site :)

My daughter is sick and feverish and had a dentist appt and is in the middle of A school so I pray it doesnt hold her back anymore...

Day 1 of 5 is done time to go relax.  Friday cant come soon enough!

  • Anna

    ChristyJ,

Glad to have you on board!!!  Sent you a personal welcome!!

    Blondie,

Looks like we have secured an apartment but I'm a little worried about this choice.  We don't have an exterior door so to get in we have to go through a door with a keypad, go through that and through another interior door, then up a flight of steps through another door, down a hallway to our apartment door!!!  I can just see carrying groceries through all that.  I wonder how many eggs will get scrambled while we live there!!!!!  One again, there aren't many choices in good neighborhoods that allow pets and short term leases.  Oh how I love moving (NOT)!!!!!!

I need prayers that this will work out ok for us.  Oh and there is no extra storage in this place so I'm not sure where we will keep all the flattened boxes so we'll have them for the next move.  Have you ever priced moving boxes???  Man, are they expensive!!!

    ok - enough complaining!!!!

  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • Anna

Hello Everyone!!!  Hope everyone is staying warm.  Seems it's pretty cold over most of the US!!

    Blondie,

The job is guaranteed for 6 months but hubby thinks it could get extended for longer.  Unfortunately we won't know that for about 4 to 5 months.  I've never lived in a place that did not have a door that opened to the outside so that's part of what has me worried about this place.  Not sure how the mail or UPS folks would deliver any packages since you have to have a combination to get in the front door.  And then just being able to carry groceries and everything.  I'm used to parking by the door and at least being able to set things inside the door so I could make return trips to the car.  Now my parking place is around the corner so there is just so much more to go through just to get to my place.  I'm sure we'll make it work for us but you know - - I just HAVE to have something to lay awake at nights and worry about!!!!!  And I'm used to living with boxes all around so we'll just have that again.  Only our Raleigh aparment had a good storage room on the balcony that I miss so much!!!

Oh and yes, we have plenty of snow and ice here as well.  And today is really cold and windy!!!!  I've determined that there isn't any difference in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and now New York snow!!!!  I've cleaned it off my car in all four states this past month and I'm tired of all of it!!!!!!

  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • Oneofalot

My daughter thought she was in ground hog day. It keeps going on and on the same. I am glad you are feeling better today Blondie.
  • Oneofalot

That is really bad. If you miss a check in on a Ship they do a man over board drill. Until they find you. Christina just does the same thing every day over and over again. LOL.
  • Oneofalot

Christina's will not be boring once she is back on the flight deck. She only has 2 more days of galley work and then back to her real job. YEAH!
  • O_Mom

Received my I'm a Sailor Call earlier today! PIR 2/11!  She was beat but So happy! One more day and a wake up and we get to see her again!!

My heart goes out to the mother of that recruit and to those who were with him. What a sad occurrence!
  • Oneofalot

That is a very sad thing to happen. My heart also goes out to everyone who is involved.
  • Oneofalot

Sorry about the cold. Have a great day.
