Thanks, everyone. She was really ticked at me to find out that everyone know. I told her where else would I get the support that I need while I wait for what is happening.
Thanks Anna, She actually enlisted in Oceanside so is sort of familiar with the area. She loves it down there and has friends which are marines so that will help. She used to work on the base there cutting hair before she enlisted. Great to speak with you again. Am loving this site already.
Actually I told her that I needed to let you guys know so I could have someone to worry with me and pray with me to get through it. She has not responded to me about that yet. I figure if she is mad, oh well she will get over it. She just doesn't like people worrying about her.
I agree with Blondie - - tell your girl we don't know anything other than she needs our prayers and you need someone to talk to who understands what being a mom of a sailor is all about. Yes, we know they need their independence and certainly some more than others, but we are still their mom and moms worry about our children!!!!
You are welcome proud navy mom!!! I'm so happy to have this site as well. Has helped me through some hard times!!!!! What base did she work at?
Thats funny cause nikki doesnt seem to mind me talking to navy moms just everyone else lol. Just tell her she has more moms to pray for her well being.. nikki is so happy I have all you guys. she is really happy that I have made friends on here and have other moms to relate to.. she was also very happy about having a friend possibly when she gets on ship... she is amazed at how much we talk on here ;)
No, she likes me talking to you guys. I just think she is embarrassed about this whole thing and doesn't want anyone to know. She loves that I have all of you to help me get through things.
That would be a good choice. She need time to herself before she doesn't get it. Maybe Christina and her will fly out together. She should be going back about that time. One way or the other they will get to know each other. lol.
Proudnavymom, glad your daughter will be home for awhile.
Blondie, my stars! What a scary morning! I am glad things are okay.
Jean, my prayers are with your daughter. And with you.
Not that much longer till I see mine. I am taking my grandbabies to seee her the first weekend she is in Charleston since we cannot all go to PIR (its Dad's birthday so he is going). She wants to see them, but then there will be a bit of jealousy. She loves them, but since we are raising them, she got bumped out of youngest child status and lost the years she was supposed to be the only one at home. She is very mature, and she is always my baby, but the littles need a mommy too.
Blondie, my daughter is doing great. She had a CT scan yesterday and the doctors are still not sure they are going to do surgery. So it is still up in the air about that. She will be in SD for 2 to 4 weeks, checking in at the hospital everyday.
Yes I looked at all the posts for PIR so for no one, so perhaps when I actually go out I will meet some other mothers of daughters this week at the PIR.
So glad to hear your daughter is doing well so far. Is there a chance that they won't need to do the surgery because she will get better without it? I'm keeping her in my prayers as well. How are you doing? How's your weather out there??
Daisy,
Sorry you didn't find any posts from any other moms who have daughters graduating the same day. There is usually always a meet and greet going on the evening before graduation. I think it's held at a Marriott, but I can't swear to that. Someone else might have more info on this than I. I didn't have this site when my daughter graduated so we never knew we could meet up with other families. You might want to check the events tab above and see if you can find some info there - - that might be a way to meet some other families. Otherwise you might just be stuck with us!!!!!!!!!! lol
Blondie,
I see Ohio made the news today with the floods!!!!
Our weather out here is cold and wet. We are back to sort of rain or what some people call lumpy rain.
Daughter is doing fine. surgery is still up in the air. They still really don't know what is causing her to not feel well. They did a CT scan yesterday. She is having to check in to medical every day for more tests.
Hi All-I havenn't posted in a while but I have been following and PRAYIING!
Jean- I sure hope you daughter doesn't have to have surgery. My hubby's cousin's son...I guess that would make him a second cousin, did some of his rotations at Balboa Naval Hospital in SD. Both his Dad & Grandfatjer were Naval Academy grads, but he went the ROTC route for undergrad and medical school....too bad he's not there now...he's a really great "kid".
Blondie-So glad your SIL is fine....what a story and what a PRAISE. You should wirte it up....or at least put it in a 'thankful" journal! Stories like that definitely spur me on in my prayer life. BTW do you know how to do multpile postings at the same time so that you don't have to re-type the post for different groups?
I feel bad for her having to check in every day for tests. Where is she staying while she waits for all this? I sure hope and pray they find something soon.
navyfam,
Good to see you!!! I don't know of anyway to make the same post on multiple groups without doing a copy on the first one and then pasting it on each subsequent group page. And I find lately that sometimes a paste works and sometimes it doesn't!!! I'm not sure if it's this website, since they made some of their latest changes, or if it's my computer!!!!
Blondie, thank you for your earlier words. Please try to stay warm and dry!
I do not mind saying that as time for my daughters BattleStations approaches, I am getting antsier and antsier. I know she will give her all and I am very optimistic, but I hate waiting! (Guess I will just have to learn how, though). She is still worried about the women's teamwork, so prayers are much appreciated. She is scheduled for BS next Sunday/Monday.
kathryn i will burn my candle for your girl and say an extra prayer and as much as they worry i believe they all get it together for Battlestations ... the last hurdle in boot camp. she will be fine..have faith :)
Before PIR none. After if they are not grad and go. you have all weekend. Some units get to not show up until Sunday night others have to show up every night for muster and then you get them back the next day.
Your welcome. You will be so excited it will make the morning of the PIR go fast. Then you will be with her. Bring tissues. When they march in you will have tears.
Sorry, I sort of know what you are feeling. We get flooding here in the spring. Our lowlands get it from the Mountains or when it rains a lot. I am lucky we picked our house so it is in a no flood zone. One of these days it will change though. LOL.
I wish I could make it all better. I just talked with my daughter. They are now thinking maybe her gull badder. So she has to make an appointment to get an ultra sound done on it. She was a little depressed today. Her friends car that she was driving was towed away because they did not see the thing that needs to be in the car on it. Now she has to wait for her friend to Email the towing company and tell them it is ok for her to pick it up. So she missed muster this morning and probably this afternoon. She called in so she won't get in trouble.
Hello, everyone! THANK YOU for your words of encouragement Obviously, your daughters take asfter their mothers who find time to encourage others even when facing trials themselves I hope I can grow and learn to do as well (It took me a while to get back because I had to go to Orlando to help get all of the state papewrwork ready for the state science fair. We drove through the are where there had been a large wild fire. Still some fires burning on the roadside).
Blondie, my prayers for all of you facing this weather. When is it going to stop?
Jean, my thoughts and prayers are still with you and your daughter. Hopefully, the doctors will get this figured out and fixed.
Love the $5 bin. So fun for a surprise to cheer daughter up.
Now trying to think of things to do beytween now ans Monday when battlestations end. Maybe I will take the littles to the zoo tomorrow. I have to go to school Sunday afternoon to proctor an engineering competition (yes, I teach Biology - I often wonder why I am organizing the engineering team!).
What might be a cool appropriate "you've graduated" gift? Something girly? (to go with getting back her own undies)
You ladies have really helped me. Thank you again.
Would your daughter like a St Christopher medal? Or St Elizabeth Ann Seton is the patron saint of the Navy. Maybe a medal she can discretely wear even under her uniform. Also, a gift card to get a manicure after she gets out of bc. Or a gift card to Bath and Body Works (they have those all over the place) so when she gets to her next place she can go get some pretty smelling soap or spritz?
How bad were the wild fires in Florida? Heard about it on the news.
Jean,
I hope these current test results finally give the doctors the answers to your daughters health issues so she can get better now!!!! Still keeping her in my prayers.
Blondie,
You are warmer than I am. I am so tired of all this snow, ice, and cold. I told my sister, who lives in Painesville, OH) that I was really thinking of going south to northeastern OH for a warmer winter!!!!! She's calling the men in the little white coats for me!!!!!!
Anna, genius idea about a medal. (and the manicure - is she allowed? Are they allowed painted toenails?) Looking for a medal now. Sis in Charleston is handling manicure or spa and thrilled with the idea. I thought Michael was Navy patron?
Fires were large but pretty quickly contained. Just shocking to have them this early. I guess the weather is squirrelly everywhere.
They can't get manicures during liberty after PIR but once she gets on to A school she could get one - just can't have colored nails in uniform. St Michael is the patron saint of mariners, paratroopers, and police (plus some others) but Elizabeth Ann Seton is patron for the Navy - she had two sons serve in the Navy. Also you could get her a St Christopher for travelers.
Oh - painted toenails - as long as she doesn't have to take off her shoes while working!!! But again, not until after she is released from bc because the RDCs have been known to look for new hair cuts, manicures and pedicures when they come back from liberty.
Blondie - that is so sweet. What a love your niece is! When is the rain supposed to stop? Enjoy the wine tasting tonight.
Anna, thanks again. We are headed out today to look for a medal. If not here, then St. Augustine. Shockingly, half the internet sites we looked at listed Michael and then we found Elizabeth Seeton. Just like I tell my students, you have to know your sources! I am so glad none of you thought my toenail question was silly. Sometimes just a little treat or special touch can really brighten a day . Middle daughter is making arrangements for a sister spa day the first free day in Charleston. Cait would love a massage- she was always after Dad to rub her feet, back, etc.
I did not realize she might be checked coming back, but glad for the warning. I am currently getting stuff together to send to Charleston. What she does not have room for she will keep at her sis's and trade off or go there to change once she earns the right to wear civvies.
Sadly, rain here so no zoo today. I will find something else to do to keep littles and hubby occupied - he is more antsy than I am! (And the dad site is not nearly so helpfu!)
I have a question. My daughter leaves in 15 days, do the girls really have to cut their hair above the collar or are the recruits just messing with her?
In addition to what proud navy mom says it's good to keep in mind that even if you have her hair cut short before she goes in, there's a chance that she may be sent to get her hair cut again while processing in. My daughter experienced this and several girls that went in with her - she said it was their way of saying you belong to the Navy now and we will cut your hair our way. Some of them had nicely styled cuts and the Navy barbers just whack it off!!! Tell her not to get bummed out if they do this - - it will always grow back!!! I guess it depends on the RDCs - some never have to get a second hair cut. You just never know!!!!!
well I guess I'll cut it myself and save the $ I can whack it just as well as the next guy. So no matter who does it will be duck butt ugly cuz it's naturally curly. We keep telling her it will grow, and her hair does grow fast. But that doesn't help much. She was talking about getting extensions afterward but I have talked to a few people who have had them so like, and some don't. One girl at work just did hers and YUK! she did type you glue in and had big blobs of glue. When I asked how you get them out, she said it kind of hurts you put a bunch of conditioner in and pull how is THAT good for your natural hair. So now that she knows all this is has resolved to just letting it grow out on it's own. Maybe she can get trimmed up and styled when in A school.
