Welcome Rebecca!!  Sent you a personal welcome message.  I also have three serving.  Twin daughters and an older son.  The youngest daughter enlisted the summer before her senior year and spent a year as a depper  Her sister went to college at Akron and has been accepted in BDCP as a Naval Flight Officer.  She'll leave for OCS next summer.  Son did 4 years as an AO, got out and then went back in as an IS.  Only our oldest son is not in the service and can't go in anyway - feet problems!!

I can understand the difficulty you have with letting your girl goes as well.  The Navy wants to get her in the pipeline so she will be available for the Nuke job when it comes along.  I think they also think (and plan on) that if she doesn't get Nuke she will happy having her second choice - in her case Air Traffic Control.  But nothing is final until she signs that second contract which would be on the day she leaves for boot camp.  I know a lot can happen between now and then.

You have us here to lend an ear, a shoulder, and be available to listen when you need a sounding board!!!

    Good Morning to everyone.

While Christina got her test results back. The doctors did not find anything in this last test. They are putting her on 6 months of light duty and are keeping her off of the ship. With her getting sick they don't want her on the flight deck. She is really bummed about it.

  • Oneofalot

Blondie, I hope that is all it will be but right now it is making her very sick. Everyday she gets a little bit better but worse in other ways.
  • Oneofalot

    Thanks
  • kathryn56

Jean, I am so sorry that this is so frustrating and frightening for you and your daughter. I will also keep praying for her.

Blondie, glad you got a little break from the rough weather. Wish it had been longer.

Hope all of you have a pleasant Monday (it's Monday so I can't get much more enthusiastic) Our school's prom (which I run) is this weekend. Right now ticket sales are way down. Eek

  • kathryn56

Perhaps some of them would rather kick up their heels at a venue without rules and mean-ole-me! We will s!ee which child tries to buy a ticket after school on Friday

Hi Everyone, I haven't commented in a while because I really didn't have anything to share but I follow the discussions daily which is very informative. But today I have something to share.

Today my daughter received her score from the ASVAB exam she took last week. She scored a 73! She also needed a combined score of 109 to be eligible for MC (Mass Communications) and she scored 110! The recruiter is hoping to get her to MEPS sometime this week. We are going to see him later today to discuss that and what other jobs she's eligible for. We are NAVY bound!! HOOYAH!
  • Oneofalot

Congrats WandaG. Let her know we are all proud of her.
  • WandaG

    Thank you ladies :o)
  • Oneofalot

    Amen to that!
  • WandaG

Thanks Blondie, Jean and Carrie. I appreciate that. I really enjoy following the discussions. I've gotten a lot of good information. It's funny, I never seen anything like this in the other branches. Especially when my ex-husband was in the Air Force. There wasn't anyone I could talk to while he was in bootcamp or in tech school. These groups are very beneficial for everyone. Thanks again.

So do I. That fix is really important for having a good day. Just like some like coffee. Mine is this site.

I don't know what I would of done with out this site when mine went to BC. It was the hardest thing I had to do. Let her go.

  • kathryn56

Congrats, Wanda. This site helped me immensely during boot camp and continues to be a blessing now. I love this group especially because it is so warm and welcoming. The veteran moms are very generous with advice and encouragement.
  • WandaG

Yes I know what you mean. I check this site daily to get my fix as well. It's a comforting feeling to come to the site and to catch up on what's going on. This is a very nice group. I'm glad to be a part of it :o)
  • kathryn56

Blondie - YAY!!!!! I am SO glad you heard from her! She must be so tired. And you got to see her as well! What a blesing!

Carrie fromPA - I have a silly ASVAB story for you (yes, I love to tell stories). At the school where I teach, for years all juniors were required to take the ASVAB. My middle daughter took it and somehow got an almost perfect score. Recruiters kept calling our house. We kept telling them her career path was sert and did not include the service. The recruiter said "We work well with all csareer paths" My husband said "She will be a professional ballerina" Recruiter "We do not work with that. Good bye." We never got another phone call!

Blondie-Woohoo!!!!!! So glad you got to Skype with your daughter, what a blessing! And to hear you are having a grandson....what a morning ((((((hugs))))

  • lindalav

Blondie that is just so great that you were able to talk to your girl.   theres nothing like skype!  I love it.. will keep your daughter in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry havent been on lately been very hectic here- spring cleaning yardwork and working full time and getting ready to go back to chicago for a wedding.  Lost 10 lbs on my diet so far and being really good havent cheated yet!

  • lindalav

Nikki has made senior class leader of ENstrand and is carrying a piston that she has to name :)  should be home end of april for a visit... then off to cali and the USS Ronald Reagan!!!
  • kathryn56

Good morning, all! Hope the middle of the week is gong well. My day started with grandson putting on new dance shorts for school (they both go to an arts magnet) and finding they were to big.I quickly grabbed them and took the waistband in, so crisis averted!

Lindalay, great job on the diet! Daughter sounds like she is doing great, as well. Why does she have to name a piston?

I got my daughter's PIR video yesterday - loved it! I have one probably silly question - why is it "following seas"?

  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.

I am back, I was so sick I was stuck at home.

  • Oneofalot

Thanks Blondie, Yes I think we had sun yesterday. I really couldn't tell you. I ended up with Strip throat and bronchitis. It really sucks when you have a sore throat and have to cough. lol
  • J/J Mom

    Greetings, all....

i joined a couple weeks ago, but i thought i should introduce myself.

My name is Katie & we live in north central IL.  We have 2 kids in the NROTC program, one 2/C daughter & one 4/C son.  Both are at Marquette University in Milwaukee WI. Our other son is much younger & still at home.

I look forward to soaking up info from you all, and sharing when i can.

Question... does anyone have a son or daughter that is a Navy Nurse?  i'd sure be interested to talk to a Navy Nurse mom.

peace & joy to you all, Katie
  • lindalav

kethryn since she is senior class leader she has to carry this huge piston and is looking for a name for it I will ask why she has to carry it next time we talk  shes been so busy with school we havent talked alot-

    welcome Jn/jf

jean sorry you have been sick its that time of year! Feel better !

Blondie- yes looking forward to the visit this will be last one for a while since she will be heading to cali.. I dont expect to see her for at least a year after that :(

  • Oneofalot

Katie, you should see if there is a nurse site on here. I know there is one for pilots and other fields. That might make it easier for you to talk to them. We like to keep you also. Nice meeting you.
  • navyfam

Awwww....love it Blondie! Thanks for sharing :)
  • Oneofalot

    Good Morning to Everyone.
  • kathryn56

Good morning. Chilly start to the day here, but supposed to go uo 30 degrees by afternoon!

Prom ticket sales picked up dramatically on the last day, so I am very relieved!

I hope you are feeling better, Jean.

  • Oneofalot

Thanks I do. The antibodies have kicked in and are making me feel better or is it that I am on Vacation tomorrow. I don't know.
  • Oneofalot

Thanks Blondie, I get tomorrow off. I took it as vacation a few weeks ago, so that will help. I can sleep all day. I was really exhausted yesterday after work. It like took everything out of me just to come here and put my time in. At least I didn't have my cubical mate here yesterday. She drives me crazy. She is a snoop.
  • lindalav

So I found out about the piston lol.  it is for moral and motivation and very heavy.  Nikki is 5'2" and approx 130 lbs so I can picture her luggin this thing around
  • Oneofalot

Hey, you sound like me. All I do when I get home is eat, shower and go to bed. Since I have to get up so early that is all I can do.
  • Oneofalot

  • Oneofalot

Hey, it sound like a real problem. My daughter is 5'7 and weights 135 and she can take on any man that gets in her way. She still works out but with the men so you know she has muscle there. But has to watch when it comes time for testing to make sure she fits in to there weight thing. To much muscle for her. But she likes the way she can beat the men in pull ups and push ups and sit ups. LOL.
  • Oneofalot

I don't know, maybe there are sisters and we don't know about it. lol.
  • Anna

Good Morning Ladies!!!  Haven't had a chance to say much over the last few days.  Been busy - trying to get involved in the church and there is always so much going on leading up to Easter.  Then I've been spending time getting ducks in line for sailor daughter's wedding.  Felt a little worried sick this past weekend because we heard that there is a big festival going on in this MI town the weekend the kids picked to get married and I heard a few times that churches don't hold weddings that weekend because of the conflicts with the festival.  I was so worried that we wouldn't have a church to hold the wedding in.  Had to wait until Tuesday to get in touch with the church we wanted and found out that they are ok with holding the wedding there that Saturday afternoon.  It will be after the big parade that morning!!!  Parking and driving around might be crazy but as long as the wedding takes place I'll be just fine!!!!

    Jean,

Sorry to hear you were under the weather!!  I hope you get your strength back soon!!!  Having an extra day over the weekend can help for sure.  Now you need some nice sunshine and warm weather to help!!!!

    Blondie,

Glad you got to hear from your daughter!!  And to see her as well.  I love Skype - - about a week ago my son and dil in NV called us on Skype all excited.  They set the computer down on the floor and we got to watch the grandbaby as she was just learning how to crawl!!!!  It was so adorable - I just wanted to reach into that screen and scoop her up!!!!  But being there to watch is was so wonderful.

    Lindalav,

Congrats to your daughter.  I hope she enjoys the time she "lugs" around her piston!!!!

Back off to wedding plans - ready to order invitations, make accommodations for staying in the area, and checking in with the caterers!!!!  At least once we get the big things taken care of then it's just taking care of details and waiting for the big event!!  (RIGHT???)  lol

  • Oneofalot

nope. It just get more interesting.
  • lindalav

blondie- she PIRed in November this is for EN strand .. she will be finishing that in approx 1 week and then hopefully home right after she has a dentist appt before she can leave

  • lindalav

yes ma'am!  I truly understand about the long week but friday is knocking at the door!

  • Oneofalot

    Yes it is. YEAH!!!!
  • Anna

    Blondie,

Yes, it would be hard to plan a Jan wedding in OH!!!  I'm hoping there won't be snow in July that far north in MI!!!!  But at least we won't be in the Upper Peninsula!!!  I wonder if their snow has melted away yet!!!!  I remember my sister getting married in OH in May and it was freezing cold!!!  And we were all in sleeveless dresses!!!

    Lindalav,

I need a little education!!!  What is EN strand???  I'm sure you told us what your daughter does but this mind of mine isn't what it used to be!!!!!!!!!!

    Jean,

    Really - - isn't today your Friday?!?!?!

  • Oneofalot

    I wish it was!!!!
  • Oneofalot

AHHHH! the pictures are great. It is nice to put face to what we talk about. Thanks.
  • Oneofalot

Cute puppy. I love dogs and cats too.
  • Anna

    Jean,

Didn't you say you were off tomorrow?  That's why I thought today was your Friday!!

  • Oneofalot

It is. I am off tomorrow. But I still with it to come FAST any ways. LOL
  • kathryn56

Anna, glad the church worked out. Hope the driving is easier than you plan!

Lindalay, can't wait to hear the piston's name! I can picture this large thing being proudly lugged around by your petite daughter!

Blondie, loved the pictures!! Gorgeous family!

I totally understand, Jean. Some weeks the days off never come soon enough (especially with you not feeling well).

Anna and Blondie, planning prom every year is enough trouble for me. I do not (but I really do) look forward to when it is my turn to plan a wedding.

  • WandaG

    Nice pics!!
  • Anna

    Kathryn,

I know what all you go through with planning a successful prom.  Worked at way too many of them myself!!  My hats off to ya!!  Both my sons are married but this is my first daughter to get married!!!
