Smidgee - Farewell!! Please thank your daughter for her service. My son will be departing in a few months after 6 years of service, but my DIL is staying enlisted.

Does your daughter have plans for the next season in her life?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Smidgee - wow, that went by fast!  Good luck to your daughter in her next adventure.  Fair winds and following seas!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Oh and please remember - if you delete your profile any comments you have made in groups will disappear forever!

  • Chipmunk

Smidgee - Thank you!!  Even if your daughter did not gain a lot of direction for her next step, I remind my children what my mother would say, "it is all good experience." Even negative or nonhelpful experiences can be a learning experience.  All the best to your daughter!

  • Chipmunk

    Smidgee - Same to you!

  • Heidi

I do not get on here as much as I should. It is great hearing all the news of your sailors.

Mine is in Pearl Harbor and we were able to visit her in September and had a great time. She is doing well.

  • JayDee659

Heidi that is great! Those visits are the best.

We just got to spend a few days with our sailor and her husband.  It was great having them home!

  • Anna

    Heidi,

I'm so jealous!! I got to visit Hawaii last January and I wish I could go back!! 100 years ago my husband (well before he was my husband) was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was shocked how much it has changed!! How long will your daughter be stationed there??

    JayDee,

So happy you had you girl and SIL home for a visit. I'm going to visit with my officer daughter in a few weeks. Having a girl's weekend with her, a daughter-in-love and a granddaughter!!!!

  • Chipmunk

Sailor visits - How wonderful!!! I don't see my son or DIL that often, but when my son is out to sea, I usually have a lot more phone calls from my DIL. :-)

My DIL is now a Petty Officer First Class in her rate. I recently had an opportunity to rejoice with her as she graduated from her first course as an E-6. It was not without much studying and even some concern as there were computer issues when she took her final test. They were told it did not matter if they had done well the entire course, if they failed the last test, they failed the course. Needless to say, there was a lot of rejoicing when she retook the test, the computer did not crash, and she made a 98!! She called very excited, and happy to have that under her belt before my son was going to be gone again.

  • Anna

I got to talk to my son tonight on the computer from the other side of the world!!!  It was so good to see his face!!!

Officer daughter is doing well!! She is making a name for herself on many levels.  Son was saying he's had two aviator officers come up to him on ship and ask if he's related to her!!!

  • Anna

Congrats Chipmunk to your DIL!!!  Always fantastic to make a promotion!!!!!

  • Chipmunk

    Anna - Thank you!!

  • JayDee659

Anna that's great!  Our girls are blazing a path!  Did she have to embroider her own patch... Haha

  • Anna

    LOL JayDee!!!

  • Anna

Dear Ladies!! Asking for your prayers, I'm having shoulder surgery on my right arm. First time having surgery directly at the VA. It's scheduled for May 1st.

6 weeks in a sling!! Looking forward to getting this fixed and free from the pain, but a little nervous.

    Will keep you posted!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Oh Anna - prayers for a speedy recovery!

  • Chipmunk

Anna, my prayers as well for you!!

  • JayDee659

Anna, you got this!  You're in my prayers always!

  • Anna

    Thank you so much Ladies!!!

    I really appreciate those prayers!!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi Anna - thinking of you this morning.  Hope surgery went well yesterday!

  • Chipmunk

    Anna - Thinking about you!!

  • Happynurse

Hi every one , my daughter will be entering boot camp on 7/24/2023.  Her recruiter has been great and in frequent contact with her as well as a weekly in person meeting with all his recruits waiting to go to BC.  My daughter is 23 and has had a couple of interesting jobs since she graduated fr HS.  She is so excited to be on a path that has a direction.  She qualified for the Nuke program and feels she is ready to get back in school and studying.. I am so proud of her but nervous too.   I’m glad you all are here.

  • JayDee659

Oleander, congratulations to your daughter!  And congratulations to you on raising such an awesome lady!

Welcome Stephanie!  My daughter is also a Nuke, she's been in awhile and is currently an instructor at prototype so your daughter may one day have her as an instructor.  Just reach out to me if I can help.  Nuke is a long path, but so rewarding.

  • Anna

Hello everyone!!  It has been a challenging 2 weeks having to negotiate everything with just my left arm and having to "sleep" on the couch recliner!!  I put sleep in quotes cause it sure isn't what I'm doing!!!

Surgery went well now just doing the PT and hoping for speedy recovery!!

    Oleaner,

Congrats to your daughter!! 2 NAMs, that's really impressive!! So glad our girls are doing well!!

    Stephanie,

Welcome and congratulations to your daughter on her upcoming enlistment and beginnin of bootcamp!! Please keep us posted on how she's doing!!

My Navy veteran daughter, Catherine came to spend these first two weeks post surgery with me.  She was such a great help and companion. Plus we did get to do some things together wandering around the mall and joining me on some walks.  Felt so good to get out of the apartment for awhile.  Even tho we got caught in the rain twice!!! It was still fun!!

I'm sending an article to you ladies on one of the projects that daughter Jennifer is involved in  as an Aerospace Experimental Psychologist. This is a very important study as the military has not updated their criteria since the 60's and this has excluded many women who wish to become aviators. Feel free to pass this to any sailors who may wish to become part of this study. You can find it on the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR)  facebook page.

Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division

Important news for #NavalAviation: the U.S. Navy just launched a historic aircrew study to update size requirements for today's diverse fleet. #NAWCAD is leading the study and needs participation from more than 4,000 active-duty, enlisted, and commissioned aviators, flight officers, and aircrew. Please share!

The research team will measure these service members across the country when they tour the #Navy's most populous air bases from May 9 through December 2023. Participation in the 30-50 minute study requires 32 simple body measurements that include various heights, lengths, breadths, and circumferences that are relevant to aircrew. Researchers will remove personal information to protect participant privacy. We're starting at Naval Air Station Patuxent River this week, and headed to The Basic School at Quantico and Naval Station Norfolk in July.

This is #Navy’s first comprehensive anthropometric study since 1964 to update aviator size requirements, improve aircrew gear fit and equipment, and expand access for prospective future aviators, and the Navy's first aircrew study to include women and minorities.

More on the study and how you and your squadron can participate here: https://www.navair.navy.mil/.../Navy.../Tue-05092023-083

Good Morning everyone!! I have been busy with lots of things and other groups on this site. I believe we have had several more BC Mom/ loved one members who have also joined us here recently, so be sure to post a hello. Most of the members here have traveled the same path as you have with sending your daughters off to BC.

I am here by way of marriage as my son married a Navy sailor gal whom he met on his ship. My son will be finishing his enlistment in the next week or so, but my DIL has reenlisted and is currently on shore duty, as well as pregnant, so we are happy and rejoicing with them!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Chipmunk - I am just seeing this!  Congrats to your son and DIL!  How exciting that they are expecting!

Keep us updated on how things are going....

    ;-D

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - Thank you!! I am just now starting to share more openly now that my DIL is more than halfway through her pregnancy. They are very excited, and my son is working hard on his stay-at-home, husbandly duties! My daughter's current work schedule is such that it was a major blessing with his leave and TAD being approved so that he did not have to go out on the ship for the recent deployment, considering that yesterday was his official last day. They were out to sea before when she found out she was pregnant and had to hire someone to take care of the litter boxes.

    Happy 4th of July Everyone!!

I made it official - so to speak - I have changed my sailor's status to - VETERAN - but I did put a note that I would still be sticking around because of my Sailor DIL. And as B'sNukeMom said, once a Navy Mom, always a Navy Mom. - I proudly stood up last night as a representative for my sailor's service in the Navy when the Salute to the Armed Forces was played at our annual Red, White & Boom, concert and fireworks.

My son is getting ready to apply for college and my DIL, my sailor gal, is getting ready to start her master's degree. She needs to finish it while she is still on shore duty, as well as be a Momma which is why my son is happy to be doing the cooking and cleaning for her. She asked him the other day if he minded and he said, "No, it beats being a Nuke!" He is also looking forward to being a daddy.

Because there has been discussion about the government shut down and NFCU possibly covering paychecks in another group on this site, I wanted to share this information which I just received from my sailor gal.

UPDATE: - NFCU Loan assistance for Gov't shutdown!!

My sailor gal just shared this with me - Government Shutdown Assistance | Navy Federal Credit Union

This 0% loan has to be applied for and then will be drafted back out of sailor's accounts, once their DOD deposit is made. There is a deadline for application, before their missed paycheck.

Be sure to have your sailor check this out and let them know about it, make sure they read the fine print. If they are deployed this may be more difficult for them to deal with - it is not automatically covered as they have done in the past. If you are on their bank account, you might be able to apply for them, I am not certain.

I am Not going to be able to reply to questions about this, but I wanted to share the information as soon as my DIL told me about it, since I know we have discussed this recently in other groups.

We are concerned about the sailors on deployment who may not be able to access this application, so I am sharing it with you as soon as I found out about it, so maybe you can reach out to them. They do have to have their access code to apply at least through the mobile app.

From other discussions, I don't know if there has been an actual loan application necessary with NFCU previously, but there is this time.

    TIME Change reminder!!!

Happening this weekend! We FALL back!!

An update on my sailor family, my DIL has gone back to work after her convalescent leave from a premature delivery of my grandbaby. She is able to save her maternity leave until our Precious baby is able to leave the NICU and come home. We had some scarry moments last week with a necessary surgery, but my grandbaby is doing well. I was able to go see her at the end of September, prior to these other emergencies arising and hold her. She was so tiny, the blanket she was wrapped in weighed more than she did. It is not easy being both a mom and a sailor. I am thankful that she has a chief who can empathize with her situation.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Hi all - Happy Monday!

So you all know my DIL is a Veteran and she had our first grandchild in May, well she got a call from the VA office (she delivered through the VA and delivery/hospital was covered 100%) and they were inviting her to a baby shower for everyone who delivered in 2023!  Turns out it was a "drive-thru" shower and they asked if she would rather have a stroller or a pack n play and what size clothes/diapers they want.  They went on Saturday and they literally loaded up the back of their car with all kinds of goodies.  Everything is donated to the VA and they did this for everyone in their Michigan area VA that delivered in 2023!  That is just the sweetest thing ever!  I'll post a picture from my phone so you can see what they got.  And they even got some gift cards, games, a quilt, Boppee pillow, some outfits, bath tub....just so much stuff.

Update - My grandbaby was finally released from the hospital on New Year's Eve and has been home growing and getting stronger with both mom and dad at home. My DIL is currently on maternity leave, has started her online graduate school classes as well. My son will start his schooling soon as well, the baby's situation put a hiccup in his start date, but thankfully with online classes, he had some other options available.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Chipmunk - glad to hear that baby P is growing and getting stronger!  Curious as to how long the Navy gives your DIL for maternity leave.

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - I don't recall how many weeks she actually receives for maternity leave, but I know she is going to be out for a bit still. She received medical leave since she had the hospitalization and C-section also. Then she went back to work for a bit, so she could save her maternity leave for when the baby was actually at home. That has proven to be a good thing, since this little bundle has about 5 different doctors because of being a preemie and they are also buying a house!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

So glad she's able to take off some extended time.  I'm sure they are definitely busy with everything!  It has to be such a huge relief though just to have Baby P home!

  • Chipmunk

Yes!! They are very happy to be at home.

    International Women’s Day

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

    Happy International Women's Day!

  • Chipmunk

My DIL sent a picture of my now 6-month-old grandbaby, who is getting bigger and healthier every day, with her little Rebel Princess onesie on to celebrate International Women's Day!!

  • Chipmunk

My son took my sailor gal out to brunch with their daughter yesterday, since she is working today. Baby P is now over 12 lbs. and working at strengthening all her muscles so she can fully sit up on her own. It has been a long road, but one day she will be standing just like little Ollie!
